Chapter 28: Alone Together

Art by me!

———————————

Days later..

Christmas Day. It's finally here. To Kris, it was just like every other day, since he never wanted nor did the rest of his adoptive family came to see him for Christmas.

However, things were different this time. And this time it wasn't like any other day. With all of these new supportive people and friends he was surrounded by, this time, Kris can officially call this "Christmas" again.

But for Flowey, he's never experienced Christmas. And yet, he didn't want to right now. He was in his flowerbed in his room, away from the positive commotion that was being held in the living room.

So many things were running through his mind that he couldn't be around anyone right now. And the fact that he still didn't know what was going on with himself didn't help either. With his head lowered, he just thought..

And thought..

And thought...

....

"And that's why Sherk 2 is the best Shrek movie." Susie said, concluding her explanation to Mae as they both sat on the couch.

"Dude! That's like-so true!" Mae responded excitedly.

"H-hey guys, h-have you seen Flowey?" Kris asked, holding the flowerpot he decorated with stickers.

"I think he should be in our room." Monika said unexpectedly.

"A-alright. Thanks."

Kris started walking towards Flowey and Monika's room. He's noticed that Flowey hasn't been himself lately. Or...like his usual 'Flowey-self'. And he was concerned.

The last time something like this happened was 8 years ago.

Back when they first met.

Kris was about to knocked on the door, when he heard...crying? And..sobbing from the other side..

The boy grew even more concerned as he opened the door slowly.

"Flowey?" He called out in worried tone. The flower slowly looked up with his watery eyes and saw his friend standing in the doorway. He quickly walked over to the flower and sat down next to him, placing the flowerpot down as well.

And despite half of his face covered by his long bangs, he had scared, confusion, worry and sadness written on his face as he looked at Flowey.

"F-Flowey w-what's wrong?! W-why are you crying?" Kris said, a wave of worried ness never left him.

Flowey didn't respond as he traveled into the decorated flowerpot that sat on the floor. Kris then carefully picked him and looked in dead in the eyes.

"Please...please tell me.." He spoke softly.

Tears fell down the flower's cheek as he stared at the boy. Neither of them spoke another word. Seconds later, Kris embraced the flower in a hug.

Flowey nuzzled in Kris' chest as he continued to cry and sob. And Kris only hugged him tighter.

They sat for a few minutes as Flowey started to calm down, making silence fill the room.

"How are you so strong?" Flowey's voice was shaky as he spoke.

"Hmm?"

"How are you so strong?" He repeated.

Hesitation took over Kris before he spoke again.

"Flowey..I-I'm...I'm not strong.."

"Yes you are.

After all the shit you've been through when you were younger and everything else you've told everyone and myself, I...I don't know how you're still standing.."

"Y-You've been through horrible t-things too..We b-both have.."

"Yeah but...you were able to make friends...family...just in a matter of a day or two...you were even able to bring them to the surface to see the sun and...have a better and new life..

And even though they treated you badly later in your life, you...you still were able to stay on your feet...

If I was in your shoes I would have......given up a long time ago..."

There was silence for a few moments.

"Flowey I....I-I would of n-not met any of t-the monsters if I haven't tried to e-end my life at a very young age. A-and even after I freed everyone, I-I still felt very depressed...even w-with all the family and f-friends surrounding me...A-and..be-because of mom, I-I was able to stay on feet through a-all the bullying.."

"And that's just it!" Flowey hiccuped.

"You were able to keep living, knowing that you had at least one single person to be with! Knowing that you became like an outsider to everyone! Even the monsters! Knowing that no one else but you knew what was really going on and how you felt!

And me: I overused that Determination I'd once had and got what..bored?! Because I couldn't feel love?! Because I couldn't be normal?! And because of that I..I..tried to kill the others and..myself...many times...but...with the power I had I..I kept coming back...and...I became more and more frustrated with everything....and myself...

And in the end I...I just didn't care anymore....I've forgotten what love feels like for so long I..."

Another paused filled the air.

"It.." Kris started to say.

"I-it wasn't your fault that y-you became the way y-you are. You d-don't have a soul you-"

"It wasn't my fault?! Really?!" Flowey sobbed.

"If it wasn't for me, I wouldn't have ended up as a damn flower! Then I wouldn't have...tried to kill you and the others so many times...

If...if only I wasn't so scared...if only I wasn't so..weak..."

More tears stopped the flower's speech as he sniffed and hiccuped. Then Kris spoke up once more.

"Flowey..listen to me...

Mistakes...t-they were made..they d-definitely were....but...it's ok...

A-and...I know that y-you think it's not ok....but trust me w-when I say it is..." He cooed as he tried blink some of his tears away.

"We've both been through a-a lot. W-we've helped people..we've hurt people..we've made unf-forgetful mistakes..but...y-you know...I realized...t-that's ok...

I-I know..t-these memories we have and everything we've done w-won't ever fade a-away...

But..now..w-we can make new ones...

And...

Y-You know what the best part a-about this is?" Kris asked Flowey as he looked up at the boy.

"I-I get to be here with you..." Kris smiled warmly as he felt a tear roll down his face.

The flower stared at him, speechless. He couldn't find any words to say. His sadden eyes were bloodshot from all the crying. In the end, he didn't bother responding, instead he nuzzled himself into Kris' chest again.

Kris was surprised at first, but smiled as he stroke Flowey's petals softly.

He didn't need words to understand what Flowey's respond was.

"Chara forgave y-you too..." Kris said quietly.

Flowey's eyes widen for a moment before going back to normal. He still said nothing.

"And I'm so proud o-of you, you know?..."

More silence was the flower's only response.

"I love you Flowey..."

The flower's eyes shifted.

"Are you saying that to me? Or are you saying that to...him?"

"I-I'm saying that to both of you. Y-you know you two are the same p-person right?" Kris giggled a little.

Flowey only sighed tiredly, cuddling himself on Kris more.

"Thanks.."

"F-for what?"

"For loving me you idiot..."

^^^^^^^^

"Boys? Kris? Flowey? Are you in here?" The neighbor called, knocking on the door of Flowey and Monika's room.

But there was no answer.

"Let me see.." Monika volunteered and opened the door.

There, on the floor was Kris holding Flowey as he cuddling up next to him, sleeping peacefully.

The neighbor and Monika "Aaawwww" at this quietly.

"Should we..wake them?" Monika whispered.

The neighbor sighed to himself, contemplating whether they should or not.

"It's time for presents now so...maybe we should. I think Kris had some gifts he wanted to give Flowey."

"Oh he did. How sweet." Monika smiled.

The neighbor nodded as he went over to shake them awake gently.

"Boys..boys..it's time for gifts.." He said.

Kris slowly awoke, groaned slightly in response. Flowey soon followed after, yawning loudly.

After having reality slip in slowly for both of them, Kris sat up from the floor, still holding on to his flower friend.

"W-what going on?" Kris asked.

"We're opening gifts right now." The neighbor said.

Kris felt himself light up with excitement and smiled.

"O-ok. S-sorry we fell asleep."

"That's alright. You boys join us when you're ready, we'll be in the living room." He said, then walked out with Monika following behind.

The two childhood friends looked at each other.

"Y-you ready?" Kris asked Flowey with a smile.

"..yeah..sure.." The other responded as they soon followed everyone else to the living room.

^^^^^^^^

Everyone was gathered in the living room for the event. Well—except Ayano. She went out for a little while, but no one knew where she really went. They figured however, knowing her, they didn't knew to worry much.

Everyone was exchanging gifts and having a good time, especially when Bendy was immediately overjoyed when the neighbor surprised him with a new coffee machine. Now he won't have to suffer anymore and only drink tea all the time in the morning.

Susie finally gave Toriel and Noelle's present to Kris. Noelle made a handmade knitted sweater with a variety of gold, red, green and white in different places of the sweater. Kris smiled. He still loved it nonetheless. He then put it on and decided to wear it for the rest of the night and thanked his friend.

"Oh and-" Susie looked in her bag and took out a very similar sweater that Kris received from Noelle.

"I opened mine earlier and she made me one too." Susie said putting it on and crossing her arms, feeling a little embarrassed.

"You look cute." Kris smiled.

"Just open the other gift already." Susie said, sounding a bit annoyed and still embarrassed.

Oh right. He almost forgot. He reached over next to him and placed the present from his mom on his lap. It felt light but..it was a bit big. Kris ripped the wrapping paper off and froze.

He could believe his eyes. It was the hot dog shoulder bag from Steven Universe future, the same one that Steven has.

Kris felt like a child again, watching Steven Universe in the living room and just falling in love with all of the songs, story and characters.

"Look in the bag." Susie said, gesturing to it.

Kris did just that—

"I-is that chocolate?!"

Susie smirked. "Yeah."

The boy was speechless. His bag was almost filled with chocolate kisses.

"Thanks for covering for "Baby Santa Claus." Kris chuckled.

"Oh god. Not this shit again."

Kris laughed even more. "Come on. T-that joke about L-Lancer being a kiss was funny."

"And that joke about Ralsei being a lollipop was also funny."

Kris stopped and looked at Susie, with a look that can only describe one word: Stop.

Susie's smirk grew as she stared at the now becoming flustered boy.

"Do you still want to suck on his lollipop-"

"SUSIE STOP PLEASE!!" Kris exclaimed, covering his red face with his hands and trying to block out that absolutely embarrassing thought out of his head. Susie only laughed...again at that. This wasn't the first time she's mentioned that joke to him. And it still wasn't any less funny. At least to Kris.

Just then, Flowey returned in sticker-cover flower pot, next to Kris.

"Hey." He said grabbing both teens attention.

Kris looked over from his hands. "O-oh Flowey, you're back."

"Can..can I talk to you in the kitchen?"

"Y-yeah sure." Kris said, getting up from his seat and picking up Flowey. "I-I'll be back." He told Susie. She nodded and the two went into the kitchen and Kris sat down one of the chairs, placing Flowey on the counter.

Hat kid can in soon after. She placed a wrapped gift on the counter, and then smiled widely, giving two big thumbs up at them as she walked out. The two were now completely alone.

Kris, feeling confused, looked at Flowey to see if he looked the same way. Only instead, he found Flowey just looking at him, waiting for him.

"Open it." Flowey gestured to the gift with a shift to his head.

Kris was even more confused now, but followed his best friend's orders.

...

Kris slowly looked up at the flower, mouth slightly agape. Flowey however, only gestured for him to continue opening it and he did just that.

Once it was completely opened, Kris took it carefully and exclaimed it.

It was a white hand knitted scarf.

Kris wrapped it around his neck. It felt nice and warm.

"Now you can be warmer in the cold without lying about it." Flowey said.

Kris nuzzled in the beautiful scarf.

"I love it." He smiled.

"I had Hat Kid knit it for me, since I don't have have arms."

Kris looked at the flower once more and grinned.

"Wait here." He said, running to his room. The boy came back in no time with a...water can??

"What the-"

"J-just stay still."

Kris began poring the water can over the flower.

And then...

He grew leafs! One on each side, like...arms.

"Move them. S-see if they work." Kris smiled brightly, placing the watering can on the counter.

Flowey..moved the his left leaf like arm and then his right. He still couldn't believe it. What the heck was in that liquid that Kris poured on him?

"How did you-"

"M-My therapist." Kris said.

"He d-does a lot w-with plants..w-well mostly flowers. But h-he helped me with the mixture that was j-just for you."

Flowey looked down at his 'arms' again.

"Who's..you're therapist again?"

"D-Dr. Boris Habit."

"Oh.."

"B-but..how are they? D-do you think t-that they would be good for now?" Kris asked, referring to the flower's leaf arms.

Flowey sighed to himself.

"I..I guess they're ok.."

Kris chuckled, knowing that it's a good answer coming from Flowey and sat back down next to him.

"Ok. I-I have one more gift f-for you. Close your eyes."

"Is this gonna make me grow legs?"

"No no. J-just close them."

Flowey sighed again and closed his eyes.

He heard Kris reach into his pocket for something and then put something around his stem, but above his leafy arms. (Kind of like a neck and shoulders, ya know??)

"Ok. Open them.."

Flowey opened his eyes and just saw Kris staring at him. He pointed to the flower. Confused, he looked down.

He stared at what was around his stem and gently took hold of the golden heart shaped end of it.

The necklace that Flowey was used to seeing read: "Best Friends Forever".

But the necklace he was now wearing read:

"I love you too".

Kris grabbed his necklace he was wearing from under his Christmas sweater and held it up for Flowey to see.

"N-Now we both match.."

Flowey's eyes widen.

Kris had the exact same necklace, except his said:

"I love you".

"..D-do you like it...?

The flower didn't know what to say, let alone react to this. He just stared in disbelief.

Kris lowered his head slightly.

"I-it's ok if don't-"

"No!!"

Kris shot up.

"I...it's fine..

Thanks..."

The boy stared at the flower, then smiled.

"Always."

^^^^^^^^

"I-I actually forgot I had one more gift to open. T-thank you for reminding me Susie."Kris said gripping the small, but slightly heavy gift.

"Who's it from?" Susie asked as she sat next to on the kitchen counter.

"I-It's from the guy from the house a-a few houses down. H-his name was Zachcarie."

"I still think you should just throw that out." Flowey said, crossing his leaf arms.

"Flowey I t-told you. I'm not go to t-that. I-it couldn't be anything bad right?"

"Dude, just open it already!"

Kris did as Susie told as he ripped open the Christmas wrapping.

It revealed a small, but beautifully decorated object in the shape of a heart, with colors of gold, silver, and light blue.

"What is that?" Susie asked, confused about what the object might actually be.

Kris turned the slightly heavy object over and found a small wind up crank.

"A music box..." He answered.

The boy began to wind it up, turning the small crank a few times.

The music box started to play a calm yet beautiful melody that filled the kitchen. From the living room, Six perked up when she first heard the music. Curious, she sneaked away from the group to find the source and eavesdrop.

She hid behind the wall that lead straight to the kitchen, hearing the sounds of the music box's wonderful melody closer. Kris, Flowey, and Susie were silence as the music continued to play.

Through half way it's stopping point, Kris smiled to himself.

"I-I've probably said this a-a thousand times.." He began to say quietly.

"But..I-I'm glad you two are here with me..I-I don't know who I'd be if I h-haven't met you two...So I guess w-what I'm trying t-to say is...

Thank you..f-for everything."

There silence between the three of them for moment, besides the music box song coming to an end.

"Geezzzz Kris. Way to be sappy all the time?" Susie said as Flowey nods in agreement.

"S-sorry." Kris says as he bows his head slightly.

"Dude I'm just kidding."

Another silent moment comes from the three.

"But.." Susie spoke up again, crossing her arms.

"I..I guess I'm glad too that...I'm friends with you..." Susie crossed her arms tighter and looked way, feeling a bit embarrassed from her confession.

Kris smiled at her and nodded. He then looked next to him to see Flowey, who looked like he was contemplating on what to say, due to his face expressions. Kris gently put the music box down on the counter and looked at the flower once more.

"Yes?" Kris asked a bit smugly, like he knew that the flower wanted to say something. Flowey looked at the boy for a second, before looking away and groaning in annoyance.

"Same..." Was all Flowey could come up with in response. Kris chuckled.

"Y-you both are so cute." The two grunted in response, making Kris laugh.

Six remained silent as she continued to pecked out from the corner.

Music box...

Friends...

Best friends...

These were things that lingered in the little girl's mind as she watched the three continue to mingle...being friends..not worrying about the world around them.

Or the fact that their fate can't escape them no matter how much—

Six shock her head. She pressed down on her lips and quietly walked back to the living room.

"Oh hey! Where were you?" Madotsuki asked, sitting down next to her.

Six just gave her the silent treatment like always.

Just then, Ayano came through the front door with her winter coat and gear on and..a big red sack, like the one that Santa would have.

She shivered slightly as she walked passed the group, hoisting up the heavy bag so it doesn't fall.

"Ayano, what's in the bag?" The neighbor asked, noticing her leather gloves and the big red bag, both of which caught his attention. She stopped in her tracks and looked at Six, gesturing slightly at the bag.

Six knew exactly what was in the bag. She wiped the droll off her face with yellow raincoat sleeve.

Ayano scanned the living room, noticing that Kris wasn't anywhere in sight. Not giving that much of a thought, she proceeded to walk towards the basement.

One thing she did think about, was the fact that the boy was hiding something.

The truth was she always knew that there was something was up about him, she didn't know exactly what it was, but despite everything that's happened to him, every since he came to his home..

She had a feeling Kris wasn't telling his whole story.

And honestly..

It felt like a hunch.

Aaannnndd that's the end of, what I like to call now, Season 1 of this book! I'll probably have an A/N talk before I move onto the next Season/ chapter! It will probably be about the new chapters coming up soon and the future of this book (it's nothing bad, I promise!) So stay tuned for that! Btw, I have more drawings, kind of based of this chapter:

Yeah I'm just drawing a lot these past three chapters. I'll see you later!
