B O N U S C H A P T E R - 1
Third Person POV
Two boys - Dominic and Clerence are walking out of the classroom after spending 2 hours listening to the boring lecture.
"Finally, we are free," cheers Dominic childishly as Clerence shakes his head with his eyes rolling. "Mr Hems' lecture is definitely the best therapy for my insomnia."
"Sure it was," agrees Clerence with a yawn as both of them walk pass the scattered students before entering the mini restaurant. And one of them is Sasha. At that time, they have not known each other yet, so their relationship is just circling around Random Person A and B. She spares a glance at Clerence, who is busy yawning while Dominic slaps his back to keep him awake. But the boy doesn't seem to notice.
There they get further from each other, as Sasha returns home while the boys meet the other two allies in the restaurant - Hansel and Gregory. "Here comes C and D," starts Gregory as Hansel looks up from his plate of fish and chips. The two addressed teens wave at them while putting their bags on the opposite seats. One eye contact and the message is understood.
Guide the bags.
No please and thank you, just silent orders. However, only best brothers can communicate like this without offending each other.
Once Clerence and Dominic returns with their plates full of Western food, they somehow hears the conversation between Gregory and Hansel. "I'm curious though," says G. "The moment when you talked to the air freaked me out."
"What?" Dominic asks as he stuffs a small spoonful of mashed potato into his mouth. His vision travels from Gregory to Hansel.
"Are you serious? Not in front of them," Hansel protests with his furrowed eyebrows while his right hand stretches to address the two "intruders" as acknowledged by his conservative mind. "They'll see me as a lunatic if I ever tell you guys."
"Even a lady is braver than you, Hans." It is Clerence who is purposefully provoking Hansel to let him talk. His arms are crossed in front of his chest when he shoots the triggered boy a lopsided smile. Sometimes, Hansel would wonder whether these three boys he meets in this college were girls during their pre-life because they are all curious and they blabber a lot of rubbish, though sometimes it sounds funny.
"It's not that I'm not brave, it's about whether you guys will believe me or not," admits Hansel in frustration as he stuffs a mouthful of cleanly cut pizza into his mouth a little forcefully.
Bracing his chin, Dominic utters matter-of-factly, "If you don't tell us, how will you really know we'll react then?" The words are true until Hansel fails to debate about it. He heaves in a long, deep breath before looking around to make sure there's no other eavesdroppers that might overhear the secret.
"Well," he begins while taking in the other's shining, curious eyes that urge him to continue. "I can see..." the word is stuck in beneath Hansel's throat, making the others more impatient. "Well, I can see ghosts."
The other three stares at him in mere shock. None of them speak for the next five seconds until Gregory breaks the dominating silence. "Woah, so that explains everything I saw. Who are you talking to? A boy with no eyeballs? A pontianak with long, white dress? Or..." There he goes on with multiple guess like a rapper while Hans could only look at him speechlessly with his eyes narrowed.
These imbeciles.
He curses in his mind but still, the corner of his mouth quirks upon their expressions. Soon, C and D also begin to ask him multiple childish questions like an interviewer. Well, an untrained interviewer to be exact. "I was talking to a boy who died in a construction site."
"Oh god," says Dominic while his face shows pity towards the dead boy. "What happened? How old was he?"
"He did not tell me," answers Hansel with his head shaken. "He wanted me to help him find his parents tho- Oh well, he's here."
"What the fuck?!!" shout the other boys in sync while they jump off their seats together with their faces white as paper. Hansel is still eyeing them with a serious look, he doesn't seem to be joking. But, "tell us you're joking," is what they ask him to say in unison.
"I'm serious," utters Hansel coldly. "He is upset by your behaviours, could you guys please sit down? Everyone is looking." And they look around to see glares cast from all sorts of directions, leading out their nervous chuckles and apologetic waves before returning to their seats. Lucky for them, they have finished their food before being told about the presence of a ghost beside them, or there could be leftovers.
Soon, the people in the restaurant are no longer paying attention at the four teenage boys. Indeed, they are already minding their own businesses when the four of them prepare to leave the increasingly crowded place. "Shall we go to the library?" suggests Greg who is still interested to know more about this phantom boy.
"If you don't mind," Hansel accepts the suggestion with a shrug and a pout. His sight moves from Dominic to Clerence, who are not recovered from the shock just yet. They look terrified. But-
"No, we don't," says Dominic while forcing out his smile to hide his scared-shitless expression. Meanwhile, Clerence is pinching Dominic from the back while his face shows total agreement.
Not long after, here they are, settling down in the quiet rooms built for private discussions in the library. The glass is soundproof, thus they can talk about anything in there as long as the door is shut and locked. "Is he still here?" asks Gregory before he shudders due to sudden invasion of coldness.
"Yes, he is," says Hansel monotonously while Clerence and Dominic exchange looks nervously before swallowing hard. Not long after, they have witnessed the supernatural scene as Hansel communicates with the spirit, which has named himself as George. "Okay George, before we enter the focus of our discussion, could you please do me a favour?" There is a pause until Hansel thanks the spirit. "I've written some of your information in my notes, please take a look."
And then, he puts the notebook at the edge of the table, awaiting something to flip the pages. Holding all their breaths, the three other curious cats are now focusing their gaze on the notebook while hugging their bags tightly. Their figures cowered in pure fright.
They are all fighting with their own thoughts not to be afraid. Because the little spirit is just a harmless kid. However when the pages of the notebook is flipped, they all scurry away like startled squirrels.
As they escape for the sake of their fragile hearts, they also suppress the urge to scream out loud in the library. The process is unbearable, yet it is hilarious enough for them to laugh at the memory afterwards.
