Part 36
"Shit!" said Leon for the tenth time that night. The helicopters had flown out of nowhere. He'd underestimated Neo-Umbrella's, or whatever name they were currently under, ability to find resources. The birds were unmarked, black helicopters, armed to the teeth, appearing out of thin air. So they were tracking the Ustanak. Leon thought to himself. Interesting. Ada had told him they could make their own scent hounds. He hadn't quite understood what that meant until now.
He watched the Ustanak pick up a black haired woman and a dark haired man, the man was mangled badly but there was no mistaking Jake's large form and Sherry's tiny one from a distance. That they altered their appearance slightly did not surprise him. They must have found something to risk coming back north.
The helicopters had come out of nowhere and engaged the BSAA's, pinning them down and leaving the Ustanak free to take the two unconscious forms off into the trees.
That didn't even include the mass of J'avo that had suddenly appeared from the forest. What they were doing there Leon could only guess but they managed to keep them distracted long enough for the Ustanak to get what it had come for.
Once the Ustanak was gone the J'avo that weren't dead vanished into the trees.
Corpses from both sides lined the ground, the bodies of the J'avo collapsing in on themselves into messes of red soaked, slushy, ash as their bodies, no longer alive could no longer maintain the form. Leon couldn't even pretend to understand why that happened. He was just glad they were dead.
"Damn it," said Chris next to him. He was covered in a scratches and a few more bruises for his trouble.
"I have this," said Claire holding up a tracking device. "I did manage to shoot a tracker one of those J'avo before he left...we should be able to see where they're going. At least that one. I was going to shoot it into the Ustanak but then things got a bit hairy..." Her voice trailed off.
Both of the men stared at her for a moment.
"Genius," Leon smiled at her wishing once again they could meet under less than normal circumstances. Like getting coffee or a drink at a bar.
But normal for them meant battling crazy B.O.W.'s constantly. "You know," he said. "For once couldn't we get together when we're not shooting something?"
