When Emelia woke, Henry wasn't in bed with her. In fact, he wasn't anywhere in their rented room. "Henry?" She called out just to be sure, no answer. She checked for his bag, it was still where he left it, she peered out the window and saw him walking up to the Inn, she also noticed the sun was barely even up yet. She checked the clock on the wall, and sure enough it was only four in the morning. She heard the key jingle in the lock and the door opened to reveal Henry, with blood on his shirt, chin, and neck.
"Henry! Are you okay?" She asked, "I'm fine, I went out early so you wouldn't have to see me feed. Sorry if I worried you." He replied. Emelia nodded and got him a clean shirt, "Get changed, we'll stop so I can eat, and then we'll continue to Maine, I want to be there before nightfall." She stated as she tossed the shirt to Henry. He stepped into the washroom and cleaned himself up, changing into the clean clothes.
Emelia finished dressing in her usual attire and waited for Henry. She couldn't help but wonder where Abe was right now, and what he was doing in Massachusetts. She was aware he was getting into law, but she hadn't heard from him since he left their little team. She remembered him mumbling something about a woman, but she never questioned it. Henry told him to not make any attachments, but that was a bit hypocritical considering their relationship.
Henry came out of the washroom and put on his coat and boots, and looked to Emelia, who seemed deep in thoughts. "Something the matter darling?" he asked, "Oh, so we're on endearing names now, are we Sturges?" She asked with a smirk, "Ah, and my last name is endearing?" he retorted. Emelia rolled her eyes, "I was just thinking about Abe, I hope he's doing alright is all, my dear." She mocked the last words.
Henry chuckled, "I'm sure Abe is getting along fine, we'll see him again soon, so don't worry yourself and let's get going to Maine, you deserve the time there so we have to use it wisely." He reminded her and opened the door for her. She nodded and walked out with her bag.
They exited the Inn, bought some food from a market and mounted their horses. "Ready?" He asked, "As I'll ever be." Emelia replied, and with that they were off. The sun had started to rise as they left Pennsylvania. They were almost to Maine, and Emelia was starting to get nervous, it had been over a year since she'd been back there, and Henry could sense her nerves.
"Why are you so nervous about going back this time? Haven't you come back alone before?" asked Henry, "Well, yeah.." Emelia started, "But this is the longest I've been away, and now it feels like I don't belong or something, I don't know. Maybe it's just because so much has happened since i last came." she finished with a sigh and looked to Henry, he gave her a reassuring smile and said, "Don't worry, you've got me if anything happens, alright?"
She nodded and smiled, then turned her head to look ahead of her. They tried to stay out of cities and towns as mush as possible, not wanting to have to stop for any reason aside from if they were to come across a vampire.
It was nearly nightfall when they finally got to the small town Emelia used to live near, and where her friend Charlie still lived. "So how exactly did you meet your priest friend?" Henry asked, "Well, it was a couple weeks after my parents were killed, and I had come back here only because I caught wind of a vampire nest, so I went to check it out, and I had seen him fighting a vampire on his own, and I saved him, and he helped me take out the other vampires, and he invited me to stay for dinner and we got to talking. Told me he had been hunting vampires for a few months and trying to keep up his duties with the church, and the next day I went to confession and felt a relief wash over my body." She explained.
"I usually came back every few months, when I could, but this year's been busy for me, what with meeting you and Abe and all the stuff after that, I hope he remembers me..." She trailed off. "I'm sure he will, darling, I'm not worried about that, but if he's a hunter, then he should be able to tell who's a vampire and who's not. And I am, so he better not try to kill me." Henry warned playfully.
"It should be fine." She laughed and winked at Henry. They both looked around and saw the town about a mile ahead, Emelia smiled a bit. They tied their horses up outside a shop, and they walked to the church. It was beautiful, small but beautiful. It was made of red brick and had ornate stained glass windows and a large bell in the steeple. Emelia hesitated a moment, and looked to Henry, he grabbed her hand, and placed a kiss on her knuckles to soothe away her anxiousness.
She kept her hand in his and walked up the stairs to the large oak doors, the church was empty save for a single priest who was sat in a pew, praying. He heard the door close, and turned around to see two figures standing there. "Can I help you?" He asked gently, "I believe you can, Charlie." the slightly shorter figure spoke up in a familiar voice and they walked forward into the light of the candles.
Emelia looked at Charlie and smiled, "Emelia Kyle? Is that really you? I haven't seen you so long!" exclaimed the young priest. Emelia hugged him, "I've missed you." She whispered, Charlie looked to the man she had come in with, and without his sunglasses, a hunter almost couldn't tell if he were a vampire or not, but Charlie had been doing this long enough to know what he was.
"Emelia, why did you come here with that monster?" Charlie asked and he let his grip on her loosen and eyed the vampire before him. "Charlie, don't do anything irrational. This is Henry Sturges, he's been hunting with me for a while now, along with a mister Lincoln, but Henry's my...suitor...I suppose you could say." She explained.
Charlie's smile faded to a horrified expression, "Look, I know it's unexpected and heard of, but Henry's not like the others, I swear." She assured him, "You shouldn't swear, it's a bad habit." Charlie said and clearly relaxed.
Emelia smiled and shook her head, "Charlie Rammond." He said and extended his hand to Henry, Henry took it and shook it. Henry's hand was much colder than Charlie's, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Emelia has told me quite a lot about you." Henry replied in his British accent.
"So, Charlie, do you have time for one confession?" asked Emelia, "Of course, follow me." They walked off and left Henry sitting in the church. He felt quite uncomfortable if he was being honest. A monster such as a vampire sitting in a house of God, if felt odd. He felt as if his presence was violating a place so pure.
He pushed his thoughts away and admired the stained glass windows and ornate cross that hung above the alter. It was so beautiful. It wasn't too long after, that Emelia and Charlie returned, it was clear Emelia had cried. Seeing that sparked the protective side of Henry, "Are you alright, darling?" He asked, she nodded with a smile and teary eyes, and hugged him.
Charlie smiled at them, "Do you two need somewhere to stay?" he asked, "No, I wouldn't want to be a bother to you, and I already have a place we can stay." replied Emelia.
She bid her goodbye to Charlie, and promised to return the next day for mass, but until then she led Henry and their horses up a hill and into the forest to a small cabin, with an outhouse, a barn, and a woodshed. "Here we are." she said and looked at Henry, "This is where I grew up." she added.
Henry looked around, "Are you sure you want to stay here? Where your parents died?" He questioned, "I feel like I owe it to myself, plus the inside is clean and I don't want to spend any money so, this is our best option." She replied and walked to the porch and opened the door, allowing only the happy memories to envelope her.
She put on a pot of coffee and Henry started a fire in the fireplace, Emelia brought Henry his cup of coffee and sat one down for herself, she escaped from his view for a moment as she went to another room and came back with a book. "What's that?" asked Henry, as he sat on the arm chair with his coffee in front of the fire, "A book of fairy tails my mother used to tell me when I was little, I figured we could read some together." She replied, Henry smiled and set down his hot cup so Emelia could sit on his lap.
She blushed a bit, and sat down, staring into the flames for a moment before opening the book and reading out loud from the beginning. Henry paid more attention to her face as she read rather than what she was saying, he loved the way the orange and red glow of the flames covered her face, seeming like it was glowing, and the way the fire reflected in her deep brown eyes.
This felt good, it felt right to Henry, though he knew he could never always have this. The peace and serenity of relaxing with her in front of a fire with a good book. They would be on the run even more once other vampires get a whiff that the infamous Henry Sturges claimed a human woman as his own. The Union certainly wouldn't be happy about this either.
But for the time being, he was going to live in the present for once. Have this moment of peace with the love of his life, he smiled and continued staring at her, not in the creepy way of course. Emelia caught onto his staring, and looked at him, "Are you paying any attention to the story or are you too busy staring at me?" She asked with a huff and a smirk.
"Staring at you.." Henry said as if in a daze, Emelia blushed as he began to lean in and his lips caught hers in a deep, meaningful kiss. They stayed like this a while, until Emelia needed air of course. She smiled at Henry, and he beckoned for her to continue reading, and this time he listened, for the most part. Once in a while between chapter he would steal kisses or just leave lingering kisses on her temple as he held her and listened to her read.
All was calm, for now.

A/N: Yes, I have updated once again, even though no one reads this book but that's okay! I like this chapter a lot because Henry and Emelia's relationship is growing and the ending is so cute, isn't it? Well, enjoy! More angst to come soon though, don't get used to the fluff too quick lol! ~Emilypeej
