The End....
Six hundred years later....
Once again, Inky found himself sitting in front of a crowd of Judges, but his soul sank when he noticed there were fewer Judges than before. It was heartbreaking to see, and he didn't know how much more of this he could take. Error was still at large, but he'd slowed down his destructive streak to barely anything after a particularly high spike in it had followed a period of nothing being destroyed at all. Inky had hoped the it would be the end of the killing, but Error had started again with a vicious attack on hundreds of AUs. The creator had stopped creating for awhile now, focusing all his energy on trying to stop the destroyer before it was too late.
Inky looked to the Dreamtale twins, from Dream on his right, to Nightmare on his left. The negative guardian had insisted on attending this meeting with his two most trusted advisors, Cross and Dust, so they could stop that glitch once and for all. Error may have tried to deceive them with a false surrender, but he knew better than to fall for the glitch's tricks. This time, he would be the one to get the jump on Error. He would make sure this meeting would find a solution to this problem, and finally, he'd have a chance with Inky.
Nightmare stole a glance at the creator. He looked so... tired. So hopeless. So unlike the person he'd developed a crush on. He didn't know when he would've confessed his feelings to Inky if they didn't have Error to worry about, but since they did, it was getting increasingly more annoying to be interrupted while trying to get Inky's attention. He wanted to tell the creator how he felt, but that damn destroyer always got in the way. He growled under his breath just thinking about it, and turned his mind to possible ways to stop Error.
Everyone hushed as Inky stood up. "I'm sure you're all annoyed that the destroyer still hasn't been stopped, and you're all scared he'll target your homes next, but we've run out of options. We... just don't know what else to do."
Classic tapped his fingers against the table nervously. "Not to mention, he could destroy an original and hundreds, possibly thousands could follow in its destruction."
Inky winced as murmurs coursed through the crowd, circulating throughout the Judges' ranks. The Underswap incident had spread through the AUs as mainstream gossip. Some speculated that it was only the beginning of the terror the glitch would wreak around the multiverse. Others considered that he had a hidden agenda, and kidnapping Blueberry had been part of his grand scheme. The next, the Dark Judges suggested, was trying to get them on his side, soon starting another war between light and dark. Just like the old days, the war would force AUs to choose sides, and soon the multiverse would tear itself apart from the pressure of a second war of balance.
Everyone quieted down when Inky put his hand up to get their attention. "What we need from you is ideas. We need to stop him, for good this time."
Sciencetale Sans spoke up. "Nothing you've tried has worked?"
Inky shook his head, slowly sitting down. "No matter what I've tried to get him to stop-"
"Or how many times we've tried to kill him," Nightmare interrupted him.
Inky shot a glare at him, then continued. "Nothing has changed. He still continues to destroy. He's... impossible to get rid of. Any ideas?"
Several of the bolder Judges raised their hands and presented their ideas, but Reaper spoke over them. "I say we chain him up and throw him in the water. Drowning is a definite death sentence." He smirked, but he only got groans and insults thrown at him for such a horrible pun.
"Shut the fuck up, Reaper!" Underfell Sans, Red, shouted from across the table. "Besides, I've tried that already. A copy of Dancefell was under attack, and I threw the bastard into a lake. He needed a bath anyway, that's for sure."
Fellswap Papyrus spoke next. "I've got it! We throw him in a den of lions! He can't regenerate if he's been torn to shreds!"
Naturetale Sans shook his head. "The animals avoid him. Even if they're hungry, they go out of their way to find something else to eat. I witnessed it in a version of my own universe."
The back-and-forth arguing and bickering continued for an hour. Nightmare could feel some of them losing hope and giving into despair, and he desperately racked his mind for possible solutions. He still remembered when he had ambushed the glitch in his lair, recalling that he had tried to rip Error's arms off. Cross had been there, trying to saw them off with knife as well, but they had to dodge as Error summoned a blaster and aimed it at them. They watched as he escaped, and Nightmare realized then that the glitch had started feeling angry. It had been a mistake to push him that far, and he went on to destroy hundreds of AUs in a fit of rage. The negative guardian had felt self pity and hatred in the glitch's soul, and try as he might, he couldn't stop himself from feeling just a tiny bit bad that he'd driven Error into destroying AUs in much the same way as the people in Dreamtale had driven Nightmare to turning all the apples on the Tree of Feelings black with hatred and jealousy.
Well, not all of the apples, he thought as he exchanged glances with Dream. His brother had eaten the last golden apple to fight off the darkness that Nightmare had created, even if it meant fighting the brother he once loved. Nightmare couldn't blame him if Dream still feared and hated him; he wasn't a good brother for those years, how many there had been, when they fought each other for control of the multiverse. After a stalemate had erupted between them, Inky had stepped in to try and convince Nightmare to talk things out. They were able to put aside their differences, and establish peace. Nightmare still regretted distancing from his brother after so long of fighting him and hating him for something he was not responsible for, but they had bigger problems. Error being the problem in question.
A plan had begun to form in his mind. It was risky, probably could get them all killed, but they had run out of options. If Error was going to destroy the multiverse anyway, may as well go down fighting. Standing slowly, Nightmare caught everyone's attention.
"What if," he suggested, "we all attack him at once?"
A frenzy of protests and shouts of outrage broke out, and Nightmare rolled his eyelight.
"Are you crazy?!" Alterswap Asgore cried out.
"Sounds more like suicide!" Underarmor Undyne scoffed.
"What the hell are you thinking?!" Dust whispered to his boss.
"QUIET!" Inky shouted. Immediately, the room went silent, and he turned to Nightmare. "What exactly do you mean, Nightmare?"
"I mean," the negative guardian said as he sat down, "what if we combined our power and unleashed it on Error? He couldn't survive if all of our power hit him at once. It might be our only shot."
"Oh yeah?" Classic spoke from across the table. "Sounds a lot like you're planning to take over the multiverse again by sending us all to our deaths."
"I want him gone," Nightmare growled lowly. "None of you deserve what that bastard will do to you if he's allowed to keep living. Eventually, he'll start annihilating original AUs, and then what? What do we do when he won't stop until the multiverse is gone?!"
"He's right, Classic," Inky muttered, looking up at the rest of the Judges. "I don't like resorting to this, but it may be our only chance left to stop Error for good. It's a gamble, but he hasn't given us much choice."
"Are we in agreement, then?" Nightmare yelled out. Most Judges agreed, while others stayed silent. One of those present was Dream.
The positive guardian stared down at the table as Judges all around him hollered war cries or cheers. It saddened him that they were resorting to attempting to kill the destroyer. What if they're wrong? What if it all ends in tragedy and hundreds of original Judges lose their lives over a desperate wager? Their AUs couldn't reset if they died outside their AUs; if anyone got lost outside their AU and they were killed, nothing could bring them back, not even a human's DETERMINATION. Dream didn't want to think what would happen if even one of them were killed trying to stop Error. But would the destroyer actually stoop that low?
Ever since Blueberry had been returned to Underswap safely, the two had kept in contact. Meeting in the secret room in the forest beyond Snowdin, they talked about what had been happening in the multiverse. Blueberry had been practically imprisoned in his own AU by Stretch in fear he would go looking for trouble, so Dream had gone to at least keep his friend company. He learned a little bit about what really happened between Error and Blueberry, and began to question if he actually knew anything about the destroyer. For one thing, he hardly ever interacted with Error, much less spoke to him. Had he been looking at this all wrong?
Blueberry insisted there was more to understand about the glitchy skeleton, and he wasn't lying. Dream knew him too well to doubt him. Dream wondered if maybe... Error didn't deserve the hostility. He had killed people, and he was unnecessarily cruel when they first met, but that didn't mean he couldn't change! After all, wasn't it his own brother he had fought against for decades, then finally convinced Nightmare to tell him what had driven them apart? His brother had redeemed himself, Dream knew, so couldn't it be within reason to believe that Error could also be given another chance?
He looked up as the meeting adjourned. The Judges filed out of the house into portals, going home to prepare for battle, and probably say goodbye to their loved ones. He could feel anxiety throughout their ranks, and it made his head spin. He couldn't believe this was happening. He finally forced himself out of his chair, slowly walking over to the huge, draped window. He looked out over the meadow blankly, dreading the upcoming fight. This would be a battle to remember....
Meanwhile, with Error....
I sat on the floor of the Anti-Void, pulling my burned knees to my chest. I had attempted another suicide, this time throwing myself into a metalworking forge. The melted, lava-like metal scorched my bones and singed my clothes, but all it did was cause me pain. I had walked out of the forge with the hot metal pouring off me, to the horror of the Papyrus of the AU. My clothes had been melted into nothing, but my hoodie had somehow survived. Nevertheless, I decimated the AU, snatching some clothes from the Undyne's house. She was the Judge of the AU, and she confronted me. The fight was over quickly, but damn, her spears hurt like hell. I had destroyed other AUs afterwards, then came back to the Anti-Void to sit down and cry.
I pulled a Papyrus doll from my web of strings, studying its lifeless eyes. He had been from Swapfell, and his death had driven the normally tough and immovable Sans to tears. He had thrown blue bone after blue bone at me, but since I had stood still, staring down at what was left of Papyrus, they flew right through me. I dusted Sans and destroyed the AU, feeling worse than I had when I began.
I pulled my strings down and began sewing, finishing his jacket. I squinted and tried to tell one string apart from the others, and finally figured why this puppet looked different: his teeth weren't sharp.
"Dammit! Fucking piece of shit-!"
I jerked back as the sound of static drowned out the voices completely. In front of me, a portal was opened to somewhere dark and desolate, like the opposite of the Anti-Void. It swirled and growled like a hungry animal, and I looked down at the Papyrus puppet. I tossed it in, and it was gone. As if it had... disappeared. The darkness, ever-consuming, called to me, welcoming me into its jaws, beckoning me to come closer. I shook out of the trance it had put over me, realizing I did indeed get closer to it. I hastily closed the portal, breathing shakily.
'Wh-what the hell was that?' I thought, wringing my hands nervously, tears welling up in my eyesockets. Maybe it was my way out. Maybe that... thing, place? Whatever it was, maybe it could end me. It wouldn't hurt to try, at least, it wouldn't hurt anyone important. But maybe later.
I wiped my eyesockets, then opened a portal to Undernovella. I hadn't seen how it was doing in a long time, and apparently it had reset to when Frisk was a kid again. They had been captured by a rival gang, and Asgoro was trying to convince Sin to help him rescue them. Once again getting caught up in the drama, I watched in frustration as Sin and Asgoro argued, while Papiro and Tori stood to the side. I wanted so badly to step in between them, string them all up, and rescue Frisk, myself. They are full-grown adults, and this is how they act?! The hell is wrong with them?!
I sighed as Sin summoned a blaster, threatening to blast Asgoro through the window. Asgoro summoned his trident, but my immersion was broken when the voices' screams reached a pitch I couldn't ignore.
'Worthless glitch!'
'There's another anomaly to destroy!'
'Go do it! Now!'
"Th-they aren't anomalies...." I protested weakly. I ignored them for a little longer, wanting to see what happened next.
'NOW!!!'
I flinched, then stood up. "Fine, I'm going...."
Maybe after this last AU, I could let that... Void, consume me. It was worth a shot; after all, even if it didn't work, I couldn't hear the voices as long as the Void surrounded me. I hoped it would be enough to drown out their screams.
'Error.'
I stopped in my tracks. The stern voice, the one from my dreams, was back. What did they want with me, this time?
'You shouldn't go.'
"Haha," I laughed bitterly. "I don't have a choice."
'But it's a trap! Do not go in there!'
I scoffed, ignoring the voice. If it kills me, then I'd be grateful. I've survived everything that was thrown at me, and I was sure this would be no different. The voice was wasting its breath, if it even has breath. Sorry, random voice. Here goes nothing.
With Inky and Nightmare....
"Ok," Inky huffed out a breath, his eyelights darting every direction at his least favorite creation in centuries. "Here we are. A wide, open, blank-"
"Don't think about it, Ink," Nightmare put a gentle hand on Inky's shoulder, rubbing it reassuringly. "Just breathe and focus on me."
The creator gulped and took a shaky breath, turning to the negative guardian. He was so thankful Nightmare was there to keep him grounded. "S-sorry. I can't help it."
"Well, after today, you won't have anything to worry about."
"I hope you're right."
They had gathered as much help as they could, calling everyone who wanted to fight. Thousands answered the call. Entire AUs had learned of the feared destroyer, and they were willing to lay down their lives to defend their homes and end one dangerous criminal. They prepared for war, and their AUs' respective Judges would bring them to the field of battle when Inky gave the signal. All that was left was to wait for the destroyer, himself.
I emerged from my portal, scanning the relatively empty world with suspicious eyelights. I spotted the silhouettes of Inky and Tentacles, and my brow lifted in confusion as I approached them.
"Wh-what's with this empty AU, Ink?" I tried to keep my voice level, hiding my growing anxiety behind what I hoped was a confident smile. "I thought you hated blank spaces."
Inky's brows furrowed over his blue and purple eyelights. The destroyer was acting off again, like he was wishing he was somewhere else. But Inky shook his hesitation away. Nightmare had warned him that glitch was resorting to deception to get what he wanted, and that included making people feel sorry for him.
"Error!" He took a brave stance, pulling his shoulders back. "Your reign of unbridled destruction and senseless murder ends today!"
I laughed sadly at that, looking away. "You say that every time, Ink. And every time, I always come back."
Inky growled and raised his hand. He snapped his fingers, and hundreds of portals opened all around us. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers poured out of them, all from every AU I could think of, including originals. What was Inky thinking?! Is he willing to destroy the entire multiverse just to stop me?! I backed away, but more portals appeared behind me, boxing me in. I looked to Inky just as the creator raised his fist in the air.
"For the multiverse!"
All at once, pandemonium broke out. Attacks from every direction were sent toward me, vines wrapped around my ankles, knives plunged into my limbs, and I was thrown into the midst of Fell monsters and humans. They attacked immediately, tridents goring into me and fires erupting at my feet. I teleported a short distance away, but that landed me right next to a Flowey. He smirked, his vines rising from the ground and tying my limbs together.
"You're not the only one with tricks," he giggled. "Aww, what's wrong, bonebag? Ya look a little... tied up!"
He cackled and threw me across the ground, and I landed in front of a Mettaton. He had two swords, and he buried them in my shoulders. "You like these? I've got twenty of them~"
To my horror, a dozen Sanses who looked almost exactly like Blueberry or a Fell version of him surrounded me. They summoned their bone attacks, beginning to bash them into my body. I finally tried to fight back, summoning a wall of bones. I moved the wall outward, driving them all back. I got up and tore the swords out my shoulders with my strings, my breath getting more difficult to drag into my nonexistent lungs. I cried out as an electric shock coursed through my body, and I looked back. A group of Alphyses had assembled a machine that combined their lightning magic into one concentrated strike, and I could feel my body going numb from the lightning short-circuiting my nonexistent nerves.
I fell to the ground once the magic lightning stopped. I smelled something burning, and I looked down. My clothes were ripped and burnt in places, but my hoodie still had survived. I tried to get up, but my eyesockets widened when I saw what was in front of me. Every harmful magic in existence glowed all around me as they prepared one final strike. I braced myself as the blast hit me full on, scorching my bones and tearing me apart. I couldn't endure it any longer, and I screamed. I screamed in sheer agony, trying to beg for them to stop. I cried for what seemed like an hour as the magic blast seemed to grow hotter and brighter, blinding me and burning the newly formed wounds I sustained from earlier in the fight.
Finally, the burning stopped. The pain was still there, and I tried to move my arms. They were stiff and bleeding, and I almost couldn't feel them. My fingers curled painfully into my palms, and I sighed shakily, glad I could move something. My eyesockets widened when I heard someone approach, and without thinking, I shot a bone in the direction of my would-be attacker.
It pierced Inky's chest.
The creator fell back in shock, coughing out black blood. I watched numbly as Tentacles rushed over, fear in his eyelights. He held Inky in his arms, then turned to me, his tendrils twitching in agitation as Inky went unconscious.
"YOU!!!" he screamed in pure rage. "I WILL KILL YOU FOR THIS!!!"
His tendrils shot out at me, but I summoned a portal below me. I fell through, wincing as Tentacles' vengeful roar echoed in my hearing.
Nightmare turned his attention back to Inky. He looked up at the brave souls who had risked their lives and sighed. "Go back to your homes. That bastard will die one way or another, I'll make sure of it!" Picking up the creator, he watched as they all left, feeling hope mingle with despair and fear. No one had been killed, which was a relief, but they still were unable to kill Error. And what's worse, Inky had been hurt badly. He held the creator closer, opening a portal. "C'mon, Ink. Let's get you back home."
With Error....
I wheezed as the impact of the floor knocked the breath out of me. I whimpered as I forced myself to a sitting position. That had been worse than I expected, though it still wasn't enough to kill me. Looking down tiredly, I noticed the bindings on my ribs were coming loose. They were weak from the burns and other attacks they had endured, so I began retying them and fixing the ones that been cracked in this latest battle.
'YOU UNGRATEFUL LITTLE BITCH!!!'
I whined softly and held my head in my hands as the voices roared in my nonexistent ears. I glitched in terror, afraid they would deafen me again.
'YOU COULD'VE KILLED INKY!!!'
'HOW DARE YOU HURT THE CREATOR!!!'
"I-I didn't mean to-"
'YOU FUCKING LIAR!!!'
'YOU WANT HIM DEAD!!!'
'YOU USELESS, SELFISH, WORTHLESSS, DISGUSTING-'
I squeezed my eyesockets shut as their words tore into my soul like parasites, their screams pounding into my head like mallets. I sobbed in pain and guilt, tears running like rivers down my face as I scratched at my wounds. I couldn't make them go away, no matter how hard I tried, no matter how hard I dug into my skull to pry them out.
"I-I'm s-sorry, ok?!" My voice vibrated with hysterical fear and sadness. "I-I didn't m-mean to h-hurt him, I swear!"
'Lies! You're a selfish murderer, a criminal!'
'You should be punished for your crimes!'
"No! No, p-please, I'll do anything! I-I'll be good! I'll do what you want, just please, no more torture!"
'You're gonna have to do better than that, you stupid glitch!'
'You can't just say you're sorry, cuz that doesn't fix the fact you tried to KILL INKY!!!'
I really fucked up, this time. The voices were right. Inky was probably dead, and it's all my fault! I should be dead, but I can't die!
I jolted as a realization hit me. There's one thing I haven't tried, yet. I stood up, limping over and bringing the scarf I had made so many years ago down from my web of strings. I shrugged off my hoodie then put the scarf on, knowing where I'm going I wouldn't need it. I opened a portal to the Void, staring sadly into its hungry jaws. Once again, I was drawn to it, my soul being tugged towards it. I took a few painful steps towards the welcoming static, falling into the darkness.
'I'm sorry, Ink,' I thought as the Void encircled me, dragging it into its endless depths.
