No Going Back

Nightmare collapsed as he entered the Dreamtale house. Dream gasped when he spotted his brother, and ran over to help the injured skeleton.

"Oh, my stars! Nightmare, what happened?!" Dream helped Nightmare to a chair and began healing his wounds.

"Ugh, what do you think?!" he snapped, causing Dream to flinch. He hissed as Dream patched up a gash in his arm, and looked up at Inky, who stood at the head of the table. "Well, first off, the guy is extremely resilient. No attack was enough to keep him down. And I think he might have a way to spy on us, or he can read minds. He mentioned he knew you didn't want me to kill him, but then again, he could've guessed."

Inky put a hand to his own cheek. "So, you couldn't get him to stop? And you didn't find out why he destroys?"

Nightmare shook his head. "No, and he acts insane. But, from my experience, there could be more to him than meets the eye. We should find out where he lives, who he knows, and why he thinks that everyone who isn't himself shouldn't exist."

Inky nodded in agreement, but Dream hesitated. "Th-this feels like an invasion of privacy...."

"Dream," Nightmare turned to his brother, a seriously done with everything look on his face. "If you had invaded my privacy, even if I didn't want you to, you would've gotten answers. You would've figured out that people didn't actually like me as much as you seemed to think they did, and they didn't actually care about you. They even threatened to start picking on you when I said I would tell you what they did to me. I meant it as a joke, but-"

"Nightmare, that is a horrible thing to joke about!"

"Pfft, it was funny at the time."

"Still!"

"Still, we need to some find some info on this glitchy guy. I can feel another surge of negativity, so I'll go check it out."

"Good idea, Nightmare," Inky replied. "In the meantime, me and Dream will follow him once we find him. Ok, Dream?"

... ... ...

The next two months were spent doing just that. "Glitchy Guy" proved much more difficult to track down and follow than they had anticipated; he would enter the most obscure AUs, destroy them, then leave before either Dream or Nightmare caught wind of his movements. Eventually, it got to the point that Nightmare was tired of following Glitchy around.

"Okay," he said in exasperation. "This is stupid. I'm killing him-"

"Nightmare!" Dream exclaimed. "Killing is wrong!"

"Yeah, ok, but he's killing people too, so it'd be for the greater good."

"But-"

"He's right," Inky muttered. "If he won't stop, then he can't expect mercy. It really is for the greater good, Dream."

The positive guardian sighed. If even Inky agrees, then they had no choice. So, they devised a plan. Nightmare set out to check with Sciencetale Sans and see if he could make a throwable sedative. Inky and Dream, meanwhile, would find an AU that seemed remote enough to wait for their target.

... ... ...

I sat in the Anti-Void with my legs crossed. The voices had been silent for awhile, so I took the opportunity to try knitting. I felt rusty since I can't remember the last time I knitted. Two thin, long, red bones in my hands, I took a strand of string from my face and began. A couple of stitches in, I realized I didn't know what I wanted to make. Eh, a scarf isn't hard.

'ℍ𝕖𝕪! 𝔾𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙!'

"What do you want now?" I asked, annoyed.

'𝔾𝕠 𝕕𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕛𝕠𝕓. 𝕀𝕟𝕜𝕪 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝔸𝕌, 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕒𝕟𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕚𝕤 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕔𝕣𝕒𝕤𝕙 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕠 𝕚𝕥! 𝔾𝕠 𝕕𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕠𝕟𝕖!'

I stood up and sighed, opening a portal to the AU the voices spoke of. Little did I know, Inky was waiting there for me.

... ... ...

"You guys ready?" Inky asked, looking over to Dream and Nightmare. They both nodded, and the negative guardian moved into his position behind a snow poff. He was to wait there until Glitchy Guy arrived, and when the timing was right, he'd throw the sedative he got from Sci at the Destroyer's face. Why his face? Because Nightmare wants to.

A glitched portal caught their attention, and Inky and Dream readied their weapons.

A groan of annoyance escaped me as I spotted my enemies.

"Is there a single AU I can go to that doesn't have a fight waiting for me?!" I asked myself. Well, more like I asked the voices, since they seem to know everything. Maybe they could give away the secrets on why I was chosen to destroy in the first place. But of course, they stayed silent. Great.

"Alright, Glitchy Guy! Your days of destroying are over!" Inky declared. I laughed at his attempt at intimidating me.

"Oh? And I suppose you and Glowstick over there are gonna try and stop me?" Pretty much everything I say seems to piss off the tiny Creator. It was kinda funny in a way. And what's with the nickname? "And my name is Error. Get it right!"

Inky looked surprised. Then, he grinned. "So that's your name. At least we know it now...." An expression of regret crossed his face, and my guard went up. He's acting weirder than normal. Should I be concerned? Probably.

I summoned a blaster. A preemptive strike was usually enough to distract them so I can get away, but this time, I guess I was too slow. Inky jumped to the right, and Glowstick jumped to the left. Inky swiped his brush at me, a splash of red paint hurtling toward me. I teleported out of the way, unknowingly right into their trap. A bottle of something hit me full on in the face, and I heard someone yell out "BULLSEYE!!!" before everything went black.

Inky watched as "Error" collapsed. He approached the unconscious skeleton, a sad look on his face. Dream put a hand on his shoulder.

"Something wrong, Ink?"

Inky sighed. "... I really don't want to have to kill him. L-let's just take him back to our base!"

"Oh, hell no!" Nightmare emerged from his hiding spot. "I am not taking the risk he could escape. I thought we agreed to kill him?"

"But we still don't know why he's doing this! As the Creator, I have a responsibility to protect my creations. If there is a threat to them, I wanna know who is causing it and why. Besides, it doesn't feel right to kill him after he just introduced himself! He doesn't even know our names!"

"Ok, you're acting too much like a Dream right now, Ink-"

"Hey!" Dream pouted.

"-furthermore, he's not even friendly. We're going with our original plan." Nightmare picked up the sleeping glitch, opened a portal, and threw him in. Inky glared at him, and he shrugged. "What? This is what we agreed to do, so this is what we did!"

Inky shook his head in disappointment. Oh well. What's done is done. It's not like they could follow him. A trip to Gastale was deadly without the proper precautions, and they certainly weren't prepared. There's no going back, now.

... ... ...

I woke up with a start. it felt like I couldn't breathe, like I was being choked, or....

The air was toxic.

I lifted myself up from the ground. The haze around me was purplish, something I'd never seen, before. I coughed a couple of times, looking around for possible threats. No sign of Inky and Glowstick. Or Tentacles, for that matter. Neither of them had been introduced, or seemed to want to introduce themselves, so nicknames will have to do. Plus, pissing them off is kinda fun.

I walked around a bit, sensing I was in another anomaly. The voices had remained quiet, so does this mean I can leave-?

'𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕤𝕥𝕦𝕡𝕚𝕕 𝕚𝕕𝕚𝕠𝕥! 𝔻𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕨𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕤𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕚𝕟𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕟𝕥!'

Eh, I don't wanna go back to the Anti-Void, anyway. I decimated the AU in short order, and left to the Anti-Void. When my feet the familiar floor, I nearly doubled over from nausea. I put my hand to my head as my vision swam. I fell to my knees and vomited. The voices screamed at me, demanding I get up.

'𝕊𝕥𝕦𝕡𝕚𝕕 𝕘𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙!'

'𝔾𝕖𝕥 𝕦𝕡 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕕𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕛𝕠𝕓!'

'𝔽𝕦𝕔𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕨𝕖𝕒𝕜𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕘!'

'𝔾𝕠 𝕕𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕡𝕚𝕖𝕔𝕖𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕗𝕚𝕝𝕥𝕙!'

"No, p-please," I whispered, feeling another wave of nausea hit me. I puked again, shaking from the pain and weakness in my bones. "I-I don't... want to...."

'𝕋𝕠𝕠 𝕓𝕒𝕕, 𝕞𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕜𝕖!'

'𝕎𝕒𝕝𝕜 𝕚𝕥 𝕠𝕗𝕗!'

'𝕀𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕕𝕠𝕟'𝕥 𝕙𝕦𝕣𝕣𝕪 𝕦𝕡, 𝕨𝕖'𝕝𝕝 𝕓𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕜 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕣𝕦𝕞𝕤!'

'𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕟, 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕨𝕠𝕟'𝕥 𝕓𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕣 𝕒𝕟𝕪𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕖𝕩𝕔𝕖𝕡𝕥 𝕦𝕤 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕒 𝕞𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕙!'

The laughter of a million mocking voices resonated in my already aching skull, and with the little bit of my voice I had left, I screamed. I screamed with all I had, the pitiful cry sounding weak to my own ears. I smashed my skull against the floor, my blood mixing hideously with the vomit, and I scratched roughly at the fresh wounds. I chipped off little bits of bone, and curled up on myself, glitching.

"Please,"  I sobbed. "I'm begging you.... S-stop. I-I can't.... I can't...."

Large, silvery blue tears ran down along the scratches, stinging the wounds and makes me wince in pain. It compared little to the weakness and nausea welling up from somewhere below my chest. I found it harder and harder to breathe, and my already raspy voice grew wheezy and my breath labored as my nonexistent lungs struggled to get enough air. The feeling was horrible. Chills from a sudden fever gripped me, and every movement brought on a new wave of dizziness.

And the screams. Those goddamned screams! They increased in volume, causing me to shut my eyesockets tight as my body seized up. It felt like every joint had locked up from the agony, and I writhed and twitched as I tried to move. I tried to get up, I tried to appease them, but it was too hard. I was in too much pain.

'𝕌𝕘𝕙, 𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕡 𝕓𝕖𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕦𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤!'

'𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕒𝕫𝕪 𝕤𝕜𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕥𝕠𝕟, 𝕝𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕟 𝕥𝕠 𝕦𝕤!'

'𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕡 𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕠𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕦𝕤! 𝔾𝕠 𝕕𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕛𝕠𝕓!'

I breathed in as deeply as I could, coughing weakly and glitching, and forced myself up. I looked over where I had vomited, but it was gone. All of it was gone, the blood, the magic, whatever else was in my body. The Anti-Void must've made it disappear.

I stood up shakily, stumbling and holding my arms around my ribs to try and hold in the illness. At least, I hoped that's what it was doing. In any case, I felt slightly better. Dizzy, but able to function.

I opened a portal to the anomaly that needed to be destroyed and went through. I swayed a little before beginning my path of destruction. Every step, I felt like I might collapse, but I forced myself onward. The cold of Snowdin was terrible for my cough, and I found myself gasping for air. I fell to the snow-covered ground, suffocating from the chilly air.

I looked up. A shadow had passed over my vision, and I was half afraid it was Inky. He and his stupid friends wouldn't show me any mercy, no matter how injured or sick I was.

Turns out, it wasn't Inky. My eyelights focused on a young bunny monster. They seemed to be saying something, but all I could hear was humming. Are they talking? Are they singing?

My vision blacked out after a few minutes, and I passed out.

'I stood under hundreds of floating papers.'

'Staring out into an endless sea of AUs.'

'A voice keeps saying, Don't let him stop you.'

'They are stern but kind.'

'I listen to them.'

'There is another.'

'It is the voice that helped me escape.'

'It says, Don't give up.'

'Be strong.'

'Endure.'

'Be strong....'

'Be strong....'

I jolted awake to the alarm of the little bunny monster who had sat next to me. Everything still hurt badly, but I forced myself to stand up. With the strings on my face, I grabbed the little monster and snapped their neck, a tiny spark of satisfaction making my illness feel less unbearable. I continued through the AU, finally destroying it and returning to the Anti-Void with many, many more scars than when I had left.

Hmmm, Error having dreams?

Anyway, enjoy the two chapters. I dunno when I'll upload the next one. Might be in a week, might be in month. Who the frick knows with my schedule? \(•-•)/
