CHAPTER 2 - Phoenix Wonderland

"So, we're going to the park now?" I asked Rui excitedly as we walked out of the school.

Honoka grumbled at me in irratation, "Setsuko, we have to go home first."

I slowly stopped walking and the smile I had on faded away. "You can go home first, I'm going to the park with Rui." I was very much aware that I would get in trouble if I did this, but I just didn't feel like to listening to the common sense of my sister right then.

"I'm not letting you do that." Honoka said back sternly with an angry look in her eyes. The one that terrified me. But why was I afraid? She would never try to hurt me, she wasn't like that.

Standing there watching us, Rui decided to intervene. "Setsuko, I think you should listen to your sister."

I didn't want to listen to Honoka, but was my reason for it good? No, not at all. "Alright, we'll go home." I agreed hesitantly.

Honoka smiled, it seemed that she was proud of me. "Good."

It was funny how we never really looked or operated like twins, Honoka always acted like she was my older sister, and I liked that. "Maybe we should bring Rui with us so Mommy knows who we're going with." A surprisingly logical suggestion for me.

Honoka nodded, and so we walked home with him.

Once we were standing at the door, Honoka stood thinking with the key in her hand. I wondered if she was ever going to open the door for us. "Do you think Mom won't like that we brought him home with us? This may have been a bad idea..."

"It's not a bad idea, it's a great idea! Just open the door! My feet are tired." I exclaimed, my patience nearing it's end.

Honoka finally opened the door, and called out happily: "Mom! We're home." She didn't mention we had brought someone with us.

"Shh, you know your Daddy works the night shift!!" She yelled back coming down the stairs, much louder than Honoka. "How was your day, girls?" Mommy asked us with a smile as she walked over to us, not noticing the purple haired boy who stood out next to Honoka and I.

"Very good!" I replied as I hugged her tightly.

She had noticed Rui, panic and uncertainty set in. Who knew what her reaction would be?

Mommy smiled at Rui and then looked to me, who was standing closer next to him. "Is this your boyfriend? I knew you'd go chasing after all of these Asian boys the second I let you loose! You're only three days old, little baby. Get back in my belly!" She teased, obviously believing I thought those jokes were funny too.

Honoka had a look of disgust on her face, she didn't like the idea of Rui being my boyfriend. "Wha-- no..." She couldn't get a word out.

I tried my best to ignore what my Mother had said about Rui being my boyfriend. "No, he's just taking us to Phoenix Wonderland so we can watch him and his friends practice for their shows." I corrected her with a smile.

"Oh! So you're going on a date?" Mommy continued to give me a hard time with her little joke.

"NO!!!--"

The whole time Rui had his eyebrows raised as he looked from me to Mother.

Mommy sighed, "Fine, fine, I'll stop. What's your name, young man?"

"Rui Kamishiro," He answered her, now with his silly smile on.

"Take good care of them, Rui. Make sure to bring them home before dark." Mother sounded a bit worried, it was clear she wanted to come with us.

"Yes, Mrs. Ito." Rui nodded.

"Come here, girls." Mommy motioned for us to move closer to her. "Are you sure you want to go to the park with him? He looks a little gay..." She whispered to us, trying to make sure Rui didn't hear her.

"He's-- he's not gay! We're going to watch him and his friends rehearse for their show. We'll be fine." I whispered back to her, somewhat exasperated.

Mother pulled us both closer to her and hugged us, "Alright, alright. Have fun with your boyfriend."

Making a face at her, I wondered if she would ever stop with that horrible joke. "Bye-bye, I love you." I said to her as we walked out of the door.

Rui walked us to the park holding our hands the whole way, making sure we didn't get lost.

"I wish she didn't make jokes Rui was my boyfriend..." I told Honoka while Rui bought us tickets to get in.

"At least she was in a good mood." Honoka replied, tapping her foot.

Already starting to zone out, "I guess..." I replied automatically.

After what felt like forever, Rui broke my trance by gently tapping my shoulder and motioning for us to follow him. Mindlessly, I did so. "Woah! It's so fun and colorful!!" I screamed out of joy.

Some random, very short, high pitched, pink haired, and unbelievably cute girl jumped out from nowhere, threw her arms out and happily yelled at us in Japanese. "ワンダーホイ!!!!"

I burst into laughter, "I'm sorry, I don't know Japanese."

The girl gasped, she seemed excited. "Hello!!! I'm Emu Otori, Emu is meaning SMILE!!!!" she said with so much joy it made me smile.

!" Emu had a determined look on her smiley little face. "Come to the Wonder Stage!!" She exclaimed as she quickly led the way.

We had gotten to the stage, and on it there was a boy with messy blond hair that was peach at the tips, his voice was loud and confident. I knew exactly what my Daddy would say about his outfit, he would say he looked like a circus ringmaster.

"Tsukasa," Rui called out to him.

Tsukasa turned his head and stepped down from the stage, then started loudly talking to Honoka and grinning pridefully. "きっと二人とも写真を撮りに来たのでしょう!" He took Honoka's phone from her hands and took a selfie with us like he thought we were fans of him.

"I--" She was flustered and didn't know what to do.

He was rambling on and on about something, still with my sister's phone in his hand. What was up with this guy?

"Please give my sister her phone back." I requested of him, trying to be polite instead of rage at him for being rude to Honoka.

"何? !それでファンじゃないんですか?" He looked so shocked it was ridiculous.

Nene walked by and let out an exasperated sigh. "なぜ彼は今叫んでいるのですか? ..."

"司、こちらは穂乃果、こちらは節子です。彼らは私たちがリハーサルをしているところを見たいと思っていました。彼らのために英語を話せますか?" Rui asked of Tsukasa.

Tsukasa returned Honoka's phone to her. "Of course I can speak English! I am world future star!" His yelling was starting to hurt my eardrums.

"Very good, always giving 12,000 percent." Rui smiled as he walked away backstage.

Emu squealed with joy, "This is super-duper wonderhoy!!!" she threw her arms out in the air. "Say it with me, WONDERHOY!!!" She begged us.

"Wonderhoy!!" I threw my arms out just as Emu did when she said it.

"Honoka, WONDERHOY!!" Emu was jumping up and down like a spring.

Honoka looked around, slightly weirded out. "Wonderhoy...?"

"YAY!!" Both me and Emu exclaimed with joy as we bounced up and down holding each other's hands.

Rui came out from backstage wearing a ridiculously colorful outfit. It made me think of Hara, since she liked that kind of stuff. "Colorful," was the only thing I could say staring at him while he stood on the stage.

"Hehe, quite," Rui giggled to himself.

After that, they finally started rehearsing. All of the dialogue was in Japanese so I had no clue what they were saying. But it had so much emotion, it was amazing how much talent they had! Rui's directing was also quite interesting, even though I couldn't understand him.

"Wow..." Honoka muttered once they were finished.

I stood up, almost bouncing up and down, and clapped so hard it hurt my hands. The huge smile I had on my face the whole time somehow managed to intensify. "Can you sing a song and do a dance for us now?!" I asked them jokingly.

"Yes!!" Emu answered cheerfully.

To my surprise, they all agreed and did as I had requested. They all looked so happy up on that stage. "I-- I don't know what he's singing, but I like it." I whispered, accidentally letting my thoughts slip through my mouth.

"Who?" Honoka whispered back, confused.

"Rui. Does Tsukasa sound like an angel to you or something?"

Honokah looked upset, "Setsuko, no... please don't tell me you like him!"

"Shut up," I snapped at her, annoyed. Why couldn't I like his voice without being in love with him?

"WONDERHOY!!!!" Emu screamed, doing the most adorable pose in the history of ever once their performance was over.

"Too loud...!" Honoka muttered, putting her hands over her ears.

I clapped harder than I did the first time. "That was great!!"

"What do you want to do now?" Emu asked me and my sister as she jumped down from the stage and walked over to us.

"I wanna ride the ferris wheel!" I shouted like a child as I stood up from my seat. I had seen it when we were making our way to the Wonder Stage.

"That sounds like it could be fun," Honoka commented.

So we went to the big ferris wheel, but there was only enough space for two people in each passenger car. There was six of us.

Emu tried to force us all in one car, "It's a little squishy, but that's okay!"

Being so close to Tsukasa I noticed he smelled like men's shampoo. "Tsukasa smells--"

He interrupted me in the middle of my sentence. "What?!! I DON'T SMELL!!" He was yelling directly in my ear.

"You didn't let me finish! I was gonna say you smelled like men's shampoo." I let out an exasperated sigh. This guy just never stops shouting.

Nene was gasping for air, "This isn't going to work, Emu--"

"Aww!! But I wanted to ride the ferris wheel together!" She looked incredibly sad, her eyes began to well up with tears.

"Your hair is getting in my mouth!" Tsukasa loudly complained at me.

"Ew! Emu, I can't ride the ferris wheel squished up against this loudmouth!" He was really starting to get on my nerves with his constant yelling, my poor eardrums needed a break.

"Aww... okay," Emu whimpered, then immediately cheered up. "Can I sit with you, Tsukasa?!" She asked happily.

"Sure," He replied smiling at her. Since everybody had already gotten out of the car, no longer being suffocated.

Tsukasa sat with Emu, Nene with Honoka, and I with Rui.

I squinted as the ferris wheel took us up, the sun shining in my eyes. Using my hand to block the sun, I was met with a nice view of the whole amusement park.

"Beautiful, isn't it? Seeing so many happy people down there." Rui's eyes seemed to sparkle while he looked down to the ground where all of the people were.

"You want to make people happy too?" I had remembered the birth of my first ever goal. When I was five years old, listening to my parents argue, that was the moment I decided I wanted to make people happy.

"Yes, that's why I put on those shows with my friends. I love seeing the smiles on everybody's faces when it's over. I want to make a show that can bring the world together." For whatever reason his smile was cuter than usual.

I was beaming at him. "You wouldn't have to put on a show for me to be happy and smile. Simply being there is all you need to do." I was shocked at myself. I had only met him just that day, what was wrong with me?

"Hehehe... That's nice of you." Rui said as he turned his head to look at all of the people again.

Emu had obviously noticed my blushing at him, jumped up from her seat and started to scream. "WHOA!!! Setsuko is in love with Rui!! That's so WONDERHOY!"

"No!" Honoka blurted out and immediately covered her mouth, she was surprised at herself for doing that.

Nene had already looked concerned because of what Emu had said, but Honoka's scream made her jerk up in her seat. "Please... don't shout." She requested quietly.

"Emu! Sit down, Setsuko can't be in love with somebody as strange as Rui, and if she is... that's unfortunate." Tsukasa was making a weird face while he stared off into space.

"わかったわかった!" Emu unwillingly sat back down.

The rest of the day seemed to blend together. I just know it was fun.

"Setsuko, wake up!" My mother ordered me. "Is she okay?!" She asked my father in a panic.

I had fallen asleep in my chair at the dinner table, and I was dreaming about Rui. "Kamishiro... Kamishiro Rui." I mumbled, half asleep.

Honoka raised one eyebrow at me.

"Did you ask the chicken what it knows?" I was spouting nonsense, like how I usually did if somebody had disturbed me while I was in the dreamscape.

Daddy started laughing, and that had fully woken me. "You're dreaming about chickens over there?"

"Huh? Oh... yeah, there was a talking chicken and supposedly it was the smartest being in the world." I giggled to myself at the thought of something so ridiculous.

After that, Mother asked Honoka and I a thousand questions about what happened at school, the usual. I was so tired I went to bed without showering.
