19 - Father Doesn't Like Him, but I Do

"What the plan is-- the plan is that we'll make her to be delusional." Mary said, her hands on the table in front of the room that had the big screen. "She will be incapable of telling right from wrong to an extent, unable to care for her children. She's already falling into that mindset by being around that Dazai."

"Yay for Dazai!" They went, cheering.

Mary rolled her eyes. "Whatever... but the point is we are doing good so far. We've just gotta keep pulling **** like this."

Melody spoke up. "I really hope we can get that perfect world... this one is corrupt. It's not enough." Her eyes widened, and she stared down at the wooden table. What she saw, were eyes looking at her in the wood... they moved. "Don't look at me like that." She furrowed her brow, tears in her eyes. The young girl felt she was being mocked.

All of the melodies saw this. There were many things in the world of delusions that weren't quite right... over time, they'd get worse.

"I hate it here." Yasuka complained. "I agree with Faith, the Unseen One is horrible. I hate her. I hate her--!" She yelled out, banging on the table.

Faith giggled innocently. "Oh, don't paint me that way. I love the Unseen One, I have no reason at all to dislike her." She smiled, but behind her eyes was something twisted.

Then everyone began talking at once, except for Erity, Suki, and Melanie.

"SHUT UUUUUUUP!!!!" Mary shouted at the top of her lungs, getting everybody to quiet down. "You're all fools, I'm surprised I can handle working with you all."

Melanie opened her mouth to speak. "Mary--" Her voice was gentle but firm, she was almost angelic with the way she acted.

Mary slowly turned her head to her twin sister, a menacing look in her eyes. "Shut. Up. Did I ever say you could speak?"

"..." She looked down.

Rue came back to her senses, quickly returning to the couch.

"How on God's green earth did your *** end up with my successful daughter?" Her father asked condescendingly.

When Rue heard those words, that's when she realized-- her father was usually nice with everyone, always making jokes. It was simply in his nature. He hadn't made one joke to Dazai in the whole conversation... "What..." She mumbled, standing in front of the couch with a lost expression on her face.

Dazai laughed. "I just told you." He found the scenario amusing, most of all. He was a joke, everything was a joke.

Rue thought if anything was a joke, it was a very cruel one. This wasn't funny, so she stood crying.

"If you plan on sticking together and making things worse, how will you care for her and the triplets? Are you really going to be a father, or will you act like you're your own person and ****. If so, just leave."

Rue felt powerless, like a small child. "Daddy, please stop." She pleaded.

"Is he too soft?" He mocked.

Dazai was unfazed, busy debating whether or not he should just leave her or play this little game of tug of war. "How do you care for her? She didn't even want to tell you about the triplets."

Rue stared at the floor now, occasionally glancing to Eliza, her father, and Dazai on the couch.

The other man went silent. He didn't like that. "I've taken care of her as best as I can. I set her up for a great job, and she was able to buy a house with that money she earned from working it. You tore it all down."

"Do you think you should maybe make nicer faces so she'll trust you better?" Dazai hadn't ever seen Rue's father smile, that was why he said that.

By now, he was getting tired of Dazai. "I'll be honest, I do not like you. I'm alright with most everybody, but not you." He could already see how Dazai took Rue, and turned her into a pile of mush.

Truth be told, Rue was already like this in her mind. The thing was, she was constantly putting up a front of "I have everything together" and was finally pushed over the edge. It would have happened on it's own, but Dazai sped up the process.

Eliza spoke up now. "I don't like you either!!" There was a tone in her voice that made it known her words certainly matched her opinion.

"You've got to be responsible." Her father said, trying not to let his anger boil over.

Dazai let him talk, really just waiting for him to shut up.

Rue wanted this to end so badly, and internally rejoiced when Dazai eventually got tired of listening to her father.

"Ah, it's getting late. I should go home." Dazai rose from his seat, smiling. "It was nice meeting you, though. Oh, Rue-chan, bye-byeee~" He waved to her specifically, before walking out of the door.

Rue knew better. He was just doing this to get on her father's nerves, and he knew no such thing of a sleep schedule. "Goodbye..." She said it on impulse, despite feeling it would be better to ignore him.

Eliza jumped up out of her seat. "Yay!" She awkwardly sat back down after that.

"So you've been helping her out?" Rue's father turned his head to her, appreciating the young lady's kindness.

Eliza nodded. "Indeed."

"Thank you for that. I'm glad she has a friend that'll help her out." He smiled.

Rue sat on the couch as well now, calmer. "I thank you, too."

Eliza chuckled. "You're very welcome. I surely couldn't have left you alone in this situation."

Suzu and Atsushi decided to come out of the bedroom, noticing how they no longer heard Dazai's voice, and that the sister's father didn't sound so upset anymore.

"Hello, Mr. Suzuki..." Atsushi greeted, trying to be confident as he walked into the living room with Suzu. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

He observed Atsushi for a moment, before letting out a laugh. "Who are you? Suzu's boyfriend?" He joked, finding the young man's slightly timid and polite demeanor amusing. "Good to meet you too, youngster."

"Wha-- no, I'm not! We're just friends--!!" Atsushi sputtered, his face turning red.

Suzu was also blushing now. "That's right." She agreed nervously.

"Hmmm... well, he's got funky looking hair. Who did that?" He tried to suppress his laughter, but failed.

Atsushi made a shocked face. "You don't like my bangs? I cut them..."

Rue held back a laugh, amused by the interaction.

It was a pretty boring conversation in the end, but it was obvious Mr. Suzuki was alright with Atsushi.
