17 - Idiots in the Apartment
Dazai had overstayed what he was offered, but Rue could never deny him. They slept together, much to Eliza's horror. She didn't want them to be together.
When Rue woke up in the morning, she remembered how her father would have to meet Dazai, how it would surely happen soon. This felt like a knife in her gut, on top of the discomfort of being pregnant. "Wait... I'm pregnant." She whispered to herself, disliking this fact.
Dazai stirred next to her, slowly waking up. "Huh?" He rubbed his eyes, sitting up in the bed and smiling at Rue. "Hello, Rue-chaaan."
She turned her head, smiling at him. "Hi."
Dazai didn't have work that day, so he was staying over as if he lived there. The morning was pretty calm, until Suzu began to express her excitement of performing on stage the next day.
"Tomorrow will be the day I perform!! Remember!!!" She yelled, running across the living room into the hallway and jumping into the air.
Rue watched, a bit surprised by her display of enthusiasm. She clapped, not really knowing what else to do. "Yes, Su." She chuckled,
Eliza had made a little town for her pet rats the night before, that's why she was so busy. "I hath created the perfect haven for my rats!" She announced, motioning to the area she had for them now.
Rue looked away from the hallway where Suzu disappeared, and to what Eliza had worked hard making. "Oh... how nice." She smiled, walking over to the area.
Dazai started snickering. He thought Eliza was a strange lady, in which, he was right.
Somehow, all of the girls (except Rue, since he was already there) had forgotten they'd invited their love interests over. There was a knock on the door... oh boy, this would be entertaining.
Atsushi stood outside the door, smiling timidly. "I-is... is Suzu here?" He asked, blushing just by saying the girl's name.
Eliza smiled, welcoming him in. "Yes, you've come to see her?"
The boy nodded. "Uh-huh. She invited me over." He stepped inside, looking around. "Where is she?"
Suzu came running, still in good spirits. "Hello, Atsushi!!!" She greeted loudly.
He was startled by that, and jumped back before laughing a bit. "Hey." His expression shifted to one of self-consciousness. It appeared he was overthinking every word he said to her.
Rue saw this, and began to smirk. Smirking wasn't a thing she did often, but she found this amusing.
Dazai also found this funny, smirking along with her. "Cute, huh?"
Rue did a mischievous little giggle. "Yes. Do you believe they are in need of some assistance?"
"Hmm... they seem to be fine on their own right now, but if they do we should definitely do something." He replied, observing the two talking.
Then, another knock on the door was heard.
Eliza had a face of realization. "Oh--!" She opened the door, smiling at Chuuya goofily. "Greetings, fellow human." That was something she said a lot.
The short man stared up at her, attempting to act all tough to pretend the fact she called him human made him happy. "Hey."
Dazai gasped at his presence, quickly beelining over to him. "Why are you always here, Chibi!!? Get out." He put his hands on his hips, sticking his tongue out at him.
Chuuya made a loud noise of shock. "EH?!! More like why are you always here? You were here last time, you live here now or something?" He moved closer to him, his face scrunched up in what looked like disgust and anger.
"I'm here because my beautiful girlfriend is here. Tell me, why are you back? You wanted to be annoyed again?" Dazai had a cocky smirk on his face.
"I--!!"
Eliza came in between them, pushing Dazai hard enough to knock him over. "Leave Chuu-Chuu alone. If anyone leaves, it's going to be you, Dazai." She squinted at him.
Dazai stepped back, the look smug look on his face disappearing. "Why should I leave?! I didn't do anything! Also, you have a nickname for him??" He looked back and forth at the two gingers. Then, he turned around to Rue. "Why don't you have a nickname for me?" He pouted like a child, just trying to get any attention now.
"Uh..." Rue sighed. "I don't know?" She was at a loss for words. How was she supposed to answer that?
Dazai dramatically slumped over. "You don't love me?" He pouted.
Rue tried her hardest to get him to stop looking so pitiful, because it made her feel guilty. "I-- I do love you..." She answered quietly, feeling embarrassed at the words. She didn't want to love him, it was stupid.
Meanwhile, Eliza was excitedly showing Chuuya her newest creation. "And this is George and Mackenzie's house... that is Gertrude's prison cell."
Chuuya seemed a little weirded out by it. I mean, rats were considered gross. Nonetheless, he was still supportive of her. "That's... cool." He was impressed by her craftsmanship, and the amount of attention and pampering she gave to those rodents.
"There is also another thing." Eliza grinned. She led him to her workshop, pulling him along like a rag doll. But it was somehow gentle...
Chuuya sped up, so that he was walking beside her. He felt less like an intimidating mafioso holding her hand and getting all flustered by her.
Eliza felt giddy at the thought of her surprise for him. She rummaged through the items in her workshop, finding the thing she was going to give him. She held it behind her back, before showing it to him. "Hat."
Chuuya's eyes widened at the gift. He didn't say a word, just took it from her hands. "Thanks." He didn't wanna be all mushy.
"Try it on!" Eliza urged, taking off the hat he had on now and putting on her head.
He didn't seem to mind too much she took his hat, just glanced at her for a second before walking to the stand up mirror she had in the room and putting it on. He thought it suited him well, it was like his other hats. He posed in the mirror, before snapping out of it. "It's a great hat..."
"Yay!! It looks good on you." Eliza then grabbed his hand once more, yanking him with her to show him other things she's made.
"Haah?!"
In the next room, Atsushi and Suzu were trying to have a normal conversation without getting too shy. They'd moved out of the living room to escape Dazai and Rue's watchful eyes.
"So..." Atsushi tried to think of something, anything, to talk about.
Suzu was doing a bit better than him at acting natural, since she was so hyped for the next day. "Are you looking froward to my performance?"
Atsushi smiled. "Yeah...! I think it'll probably be really amazing."
Rue and Dazai were spying on them, trying not to laugh.
"Aww, they're absolutely adorable. Atsushi seems shy... Su won't judge him." Rue whispered to Dazai as she observed.
Dazai nodded. "Yeah, but Atsushi is just like that."
Rue hummed in understanding. "Ah, you're right."
Slowly, the topic of conversation turned his head to see Rue and Dazai. "Wha--?! What are you doing?!!" He seemed almost terrified. This was humiliating...
They scrambled away, snickering to themselves and sitting down in the hallway
"You got us caught, Rue-chan." Dazai whined, but he was clearly pretending he was upset with her.
Rue raised an eyebrow at him. "Me? You were the one laughing so loud..." She protested.
Dazai scoffed. "You breathe loud."
"I was nervous!!" She retorted, before calming down. She couldn't ever be angry with Dazai. "Alright, I got us caught..."
Dazai pinched Rue's cheeks. "You have really chubby cheeks. You're so cute, you know?"
Rue knew he was looking for a reaction, and didn't want to give it to him... but she couldn't help herself. "Hehehee.."
They continued this little back and forth game, until Eliza and Chuuya interrupted.
Eliza let go of Chuuya's arm, gazing at the couple on the floor. "Rue, is he bothering you?"
Rue whipped her head to look at her friend, not noticing her there at first. "No, we're just fine."
"Rue-chan loves me. She told me just now." Dazai blurted out to make her feel embarrassed.
Rue looked down. He wasn't lying...
"Stop flirting with her in front of me. It's annoying, and it's nasty." Chuuya complained, glaring at Dazai. "You're making me sick."
"Then you two can move along." Dazai smirked, running his fingers through Rue's hair and staring into her eyes. He cupped her cheek, pulling her into a kiss.
Rue was caught off guard by this, but didn't make a move to stop him. She closed her eyes, trying to ignore the awkwardness of the scenario.
Chuuya and Eliza made a face for their own different reasons, zooming away.
Perfect! That was the exact reaction Dazai wanted, they were gone now. He went back to messing with Rue, relishing in the sight of her blushing cheeks.
The six of them had lunch together, it was a lovely time! Eventually, the boys took their leave. All was well...
The next morning, Suzu made it her duty to wake everyone up.
