13 - The (Half) Truth Comes Out
Suzu had music playing in the car as she drove, in an attempt to calm Rue down.
It didn't help at all, in fact, it made her feel worse. The happy tune of the song was mocking her, it was laughing at her. She sat in the car hanging her head, like a child who had just gotten scolded.
"We are almost there." Suzu shattered Rue's spiral of thoughts for a moment.
Those words made her feel sick to her stomach. Her palms were sweaty, her heart pounding in her chest, as if it were begging for mercy. She felt her body was overflowing with shame and filth, and her mind turned to a pile of mush. Someone could easily break her, at any moment. Everything was falling apart, the whole world was coming to and end in her mind. "I'm going to die. I will die... die... die." She thought. Logic said she was going to be fine, but her feelings said otherwise.
Feelings are strange things. They can rule you if you don't keep them from clouding your thought process. I know all, its quite overwhelming to experience everyone's pain, happiness, and everything else at once. I'm completely flabbergasted... but this isn't my story, huh? I'm just the narrator, all I exist for.
Once they arrived at the fancy house they grew up in, the two girls knocked on the door. Their father came to open it, then his gaze was fixed on Rue's stomach. It was far too obvious she was pregnant...
He stared for a while, looking like he was thinking. He seemed... disappointed in her. "Hey, girls." He said, before moving out of the way of the door so his daughters could enter. "It's been a while since you two visited me." He went over to the dinner table, sitting down.
The girls followed him, sitting down.
"Uh... so..." Rue's face turned red with embarrassment. Her mind was spinning, trying to find the words to explain herself. "I'm pregnant, obviously... I know you have eyes and aren't a fool. That is why I haven't visited." She didn't mention Dazai at all, clearly knowing how he was a bad person despite her infatuation with him. She looked down at her lap, not daring to make eye contact with her father.
He stayed silent for a moment. "Who? Do you know who the father is...?" He looked worried now, but also very upset.
"Well, yes. I'm still in contact with him... should I have brought him w-with us? I'm sorry. Are you... mad at me?" She finally looked at him for a moment, anxiety written all over her face almost overdramatically.
"I'm not mad. Just disappointed and concerned you didn't tell me. I only look this way." He smiled a little, motioning to his face, trying to calm her down. Rue would often think he was angry, when in reality he wasn't.
The way she painted it, made it seem far less bad than it really was. See, now it looked like Dazai was her boyfriend for a while, and that he'd happened to get her pregnant on accident. But still, that was bad. Her father thought you shouldn't do those things before marriage.
Rue was suddenly filled with a strong want to get rid of Dazai, and his babies. She didn't want to be pregnant, and now the thought of abandoning those children one way or another was more appealing. No, she mustn't. "Forgive me..." She mumbled.
There was a long lecture that their father delivered, talking about trust and how they should come to him for help no matter what. Rue took this, and turned it into aggressive words in her own mind.
"I want to meet him soon. I need to." He said, his words firm and expression serious.
There was a great fear building in Rue. No... Dazai would make a fool of himself, and ruin everything. He was a walking disaster. "Alright." Rue smiled, trying to keep herself under control. It was a wonder she hadn't burst into tears yet...
Their father thought Rue and Suzu still had the house, that Rue still had her job. "I expect you're taking time off? You should."
Rue jerked up, looking at him again. "Y-yes. I'm resting and such, not overdoing it." She messed with her fingers, ripping her nails up in the process.
"Okay. I love you girls, I need you to be able to trust me." He finished his speech with that. "Anyway, before you came, I made coffee. Want some?"
And so, the family all sat drinking coffee, talking. It calmed Rue down a little, seeing her father act friendly with her. It proved he wasn't really mad.

Once Rue got home to Eliza's place, she was there congratulating her for actually telling her father about her pregnancy. She was just trying to be stupid to make her friend laugh. "Good job! Yay! You did it, you have done something no other human has ever been able to do!! Now you're going to be on the news, and everyone will applaud you--"
There was a loud thump on the door, interrupting Eliza's silly words.
"What was that...?" Suzu questioned, turning her head to the door.
