1 - Just a Normal Day

The sun was about to set, and Rue, an elegant young lady who worked as a judge was walking to a bar after work. She knew very well her father wouldn't really approve of this behavior... but she was already 20 and lived in a house of her own with her younger sister, Suzu.

Rue believed it to be slightly sad how her family only consisted of just three people, and the way there was no other relatives. Her mother had died of a heart attack when she was only four... resulting in her having few memories of the woman. The young black haired judge played with the broach she was given by her mother before she passed as she thought of this reality.

"Work is a bit boring at times... but at least Father is happy that I'm successful. In addition, it gives Su and I the opportunity to live alone together." Suzu was attempting to become a stage actress, and in all truth-- Rue didn't wish to be a judge. She had wanted to write the scripts for the plays Suzu would put on in the future. It was a horrible fate that the one who didn't even feel passionate about her profession was so wealthy, and that without Rue, Suzu very well would have nowhere to live but back with their father. "At the very least we're happy together, that's all that matters. Su is like my other half, I couldn't ever depart from her." Rue continued in her thoughts.

Eventually she made it to her destination, and walked into the place. This woman always kept her back straight as possible, she had amazing posture for someone with scoliosis. She took off her glasses in an attempt to look more attractive, hoping nobody would notice they were on those chains grandmothers wear.

Rue instantly noticed a tall, handsome, (in her opinion) brown haired man who looked her age. She went to sit next to him, maintaining her composure despite being slightly nervous. Was she deciding to seat herself near him to start up a conversation? No! She simply wanted to be near him to admire his beauty up close.

This man I've been referring to, is none other than Dazai Osamu. He had quickly noticed the woman next to him's beauty. How spotless and fragile she looked... almost like an angel. Dazai, being the crazy man he is, gave Rue an absurd offer. "Oh my!! I thought I had died for a second there... I believed I was seeing an angel. Ah... would you be willing to commit a double-suicide with me? Though... you shine so bright, it's almost a shame to put your light out." Not even a chapter in, and suicide was already mentioned!! Whoops, sorry-- the fourth wall.

Rue was flattered, at first... but after his mention of double-suicide she was thoroughly concerned. "Is he insane? This man is much less desirable after making himself look so much like a walking red flag." She thought, worried for him. Rue stared straight into Dazai's brown eyes, wondering what she should do. At one point, she came to the conclusion that she'd accept his horrendous suggestion-- but only to save his life. "Sure..." The lady replied, looking down.

"Ah! Finally, another soul wishing to end their life, just like me. My dream of committing suicide beside a beautiful woman is coming true at last!! What's your name, young miss?" His smile was a bit disturbing, the way he looked so happy... way too happy.

Rue became even more distressed, this man was bad news. "Suzuki Rue. Yours, sir?" She didn't understand at all why she felt obligated to help him.

Dazai gazed at her light blue eyes that looked a bit gray, and answered her question. "Dazai Osamu. You may refer to me as Osamu, if you want."

Did this guy want to be on a first name basis just because he thought she was suicidal too?! Yes, yes he did.

Rue pushed down her scared feeling, and nodded.

"How should we go out? I'll let you decide, Rue." Dazai smiled as he said these words, he liked suicide too much.

All this poor lady wanted was a drink after work... but she figured she could still have that with the idea that popped into her head. "Why not alcohol poisoning? That seems like it would be... entertaining." Rue was trying to pretend she was enthusiastic about the idea of killing herself.

Dazai instantly accepted the idea. "You're right! Sounds like we'd have a fun time before saying goodbye." His grin didn't reach his eyes... Rue felt like he thought everything was a joke.

They asked the bartender for some bottles of the strongest drink he had, bought it, and then Dazai took Rue to the dormitory of the ADA.

"Oh... this is a comfortable place you have." Rue commented, walking into Dazai's room. It was a comfortable place, if you imagined it without the ginormous mess. She had to admit, the whole building looked a bit run-down.

Dazai opened one of the bottles, and got to drinking.

Rue had planned to let Dazai drink some, become drunk, and not let him have any more. What they got was some kind of alcohol Rue never even heard of before. Rue was tempted to try it... she was aware she should probably stay sober for this plan to work, but her curiosity got the best of her and she grabbed a bottle for herself. Upon taking a sip, she made a sour face. "Alcoholic drinks taste disgusting... sometimes I forget that." For some nonsensical reason, she continued to drink.

Dazai was already drunk, he had gulped down a lot all at once. He turned to look at Rue, noticing her chubby cheeks, he began to pinch them. "Aww... you have chubby cheeks! Chubby Rue-chan!! What a cutie."

This man was unbelievable, but there was something charming about him in his drunken state to Rue. She couldn't help but be amused by his actions. "Heh..."
