the next morning

(I thought of titling it "the morning after" lmao)

I wake up feeling depressed about the day before. I decide to call the school and tell them I'm not coming today.

I dial the number and principle Nezu picks up.

"Hello, is this l/n y/n I'm speaking to?"

"Yes, it is. I'm not feeling well today and I don't think going to school is a good choice. If I'm not feeling well tomorrow I'm going to call the doctor."

"Are you sure, you've only been a day?"

"I know, but I just don't feel like going is a good idea today. Can you apologize to Mr. Aizawa for me please?" I say, guilty.

"Sure thing. Go back to sleep, get some rest."

"Ok, and thank you."

"No problem."

I hung up and went back to sleep.

Is this what you wanted, Bakugou?

(Quick note, and slight spoiler. Nezu asked in a formal manner who this was because it was through the school rather than his personal cell, and the number wasn't saved. Also, if it wasn't you, answering in an unprofessional manner wouldn't look too good on the school's reputation.)

At UA

Aizawa POV

Principle Nezu called me to his office.

What the hell is it? I'm tired and want to go back to sleep.

"Mr. Aizawa." Principle Nezu says to me.

"The new student, l/n, is out sick today. I'm concerned about her first day. It is possible that she really did get sick--in that case, I want you to keep a close eye on anyone who might be feeling under the weather--however, I checked in with each of her teachers to see how her first day was and how she was adjusting. I noticed that after hero training, she was described to be distant and looked, well to be frank, dead--compared to how in the morning she was simply shy and nervous, but always had a positive attitude. I didn't get a chance to check in with you--you had already gone to sleep--so do you have any thoughts on this?"

After that "speech," I took a moment to think before answering.

"There is a possibility. Bakugou. He can go overboard sometimes and to someone as shy as her, she might've taken it pretty hard. You mentioned it was after hero training, well, Bakugou gets the most competitive when it comes to being a hero, and during their exercises that I reviewed at the beginning of the year: he had no hesitation when it came to going all out on someone he's known since his early years. I reviewed the footage from their most recent exercise--they were just talking--audio wasn't available but their mouths were moving--but at one point l/n stopped and walked a different direction. After that, Bakugou stared for a good thirty seconds before moving on. It isn't likely she stood up to him, but I can't really think of what she could have said to warrant that response from Bakugou. Well, nothing other than what she did: stay home the next day. If you fill the situation with l/n telling Bakugou that she's just not coming the next day, the situation makes sense."

During all this, Nezu was nodding in understanding.

"We'll talk more later, go to homeroom. Don't discuss this conversation among the other staff, but you may mention to your class that l/n "wasn't feeling well today."

"Understood, thank you. I'll keep an eye out for anyone who seems sick."

Nezu just nods as I stand up and walk out.

Time skip to homeroom

Third POV

"Listen up everyone! l/n is out sick today. If anyone of you have contact with her, don't harass her. If she couldn't come on her second day, she must be feeling pretty horrible. Now..."

Aizawa's voice drones on. He made an effort not to eye Bakugou during his announcement.

After that part, Bakugou stopped listening, he could only think about what l/n said to him yesterday.

"I just wanted to help. Don't worry about it, you go on ahead I'm just gonna stay here. Oh, and, don't worry, I won't come to school tomorrow, or any day after that. Don't feel bad, I truly am sorry for bothering you, Bakugou."

"I won't bother you any more."

He feels guilty--and Bakugou never feels guilty.

He hates this feeling, but he would never apologize.

Time skip

At the end of the day, Bakugou goes to talk to Mr. Aizawa.

"So, you want l/n's personal phone number so you can talk to her?"

"Tch. Yeah."

Aizawa sighs, "Fine."

Aizawa checks in the school records for her phone number, and gives it to Bakugou.

Your POV

"Huh, what?" My phone dings and it wakes me up from my depression nap.

"Damnit, I'm awake."

I check my phone: an unknown number.

Bakugou couldn't tell, but I had read each of his messages. Does he have some sort of insecurity about others? Midoriya said something about him being competitive. I'll see tomorrow how I'm feeling, let's just go back to sleep for now.
