Sports festival

Time flied and before I knew, it was the day before the sports festival.

The day felt like it took forever, but it finally ended.

Our way out was blocked by a sea of other students.

Bakugou figures out that they're here to see their biggest competition--to scout us out.

A boy with messy purple hair comes to the front, and he said that Bakugou's behavior led him to be disillusioned.

"Depending on the results of the sports festival, they'll consider our transfer into the hero course."

Fuck.

Oh fuck. Someone's gonna take my spot in this class and I'll be bumped down to some other course. I guess this is good, the guy with the purple hair really seems like he wants to be in our course. I guess it's ok.

My thoughts are interrupted by someone silver screaming.

"Hey! I'm from class B next door! I heard you fought against villains, so I came to hear 'bout it! Don't get so full of yourselves!"

I just keep my head down and continue walking, I don't really want to get involved in this.

Today I end up walking home on my own—I guess everyone got held up by the big group, or they just stopped being nice to me. It's only natural, I've been here long enough so not everyone feels obligated to be nice anymore. It's fine, I'll just leave them be for a while.

Time skip to sports festival

I'm in the waiting room for my class. I'm really anxious because my illusions can't touch others. So how am I going to do anything if there ends up being one on one battles?

I sit at the table with Momo and Jirou—my hands folded, deaf to the conversation around me because I'm too focused on what we're going to be doing for the festival.

Suddenly, Iida bursts into the room.

"Everyone, are you ready? We will be entering soon!"

My anxiety skyrocketed.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I do NOT want to go out soon. I need another week to prepare myself. There are so many people.

I shrink in my seat.

Somebody kill me.

"Hey, l/n. You okay? You look nervous?" Yaoyorozu asks in concern.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. There's so many people and I feel really nervous about messing up in front of them." I giggle in embarrassment.

"Well, when you do go pro, there's gonna be a lot of people watching then, so it's good to prepare now." Jirou responds—as cool and calm as always.

"Uh-huh. I guess..." I trail off, contemplating what she just said.

"Midoriya." Todoroki approaches.

"Todoroki? What is it?"

We all turn to see.

"Looking at things objectively, I think I'm stronger than you."

"Huh?" He pauses. "Y-yeah..."

"But... All Might has his eye on you, doesn't he? I'm not trying to pry about that. But I'm going to beat you."

There's tension and silence in the air for a few moments before the boy with yellow hair and lightning strike speaks.

"Oh? Is the best in the class making a declaration of war?"

A boy with red spiky hair walks up to Todoroki and puts his hand on his shoulder.

"Hey, hey, hey. Why are you picking a fight all of a sudden? Not now, we're about to start!"

Todoroki shoves him off and walks away.

"We're not here to play at being friends. So what does it matter?"

It's silent before Midoriya responds.

"Todoroki, I don't know what you're thinking when you say you're going to beat me, but of course you're better than me. I think you're more capable than most people... Looking at it objectively..."

He's cut off.

"Midoriya, you probably shouldn't talk so negatively..."

Midoriya then starts talking again.

"But, everyone—the students from the other courses are aiming for the top with everything they've got! I can't afford to fall behind. I'll be going for it with everything I have, too."

"Yeah."

Time skip to walking out

"Hey! Pay attention, audience! Swarm, mass media! This year's high school rodeo of adolescence that you all love, the U.A. sports festival is about to begin! Everybody, are you ready?!" Present Mic announces.

"It's time for the students to enter the first-year stage! The miraculous new stars who overcame enemy attacks with their hearts of steel! Hero course, Class 1-A!

Our class walks out—everyone looks so confident, while I look like a scared puppy. Well there's Midoriya, who looks just as scared as I am.

I walk over to him so we can drown in anxiety together.

Present Mic then announces the rest of the courses and I notice the boy with purple hair walk out.

He looks so tired. Hell yeah! Another insomniac! Oh we have to be friends, so we can revel in our misery together.

He notices me staring and looks back at me. He smirks—knowing he just caught me staring.

I blush and keep staring forward—I probably look insane right now with the way my face looks.

Midnight is standing up front, announcing that it's time for the student pledge.

The same boy with red hair pipes up.

"What is Ms. Midnight wearing?"

"That's an R-rated Hero for you."

"Is this really appropriate for a high-school game?"

"Quiet, everyone! Representing the students is Bakugou Katsuki from Class1-A!"

"What? It's Kacchan?"

"That guy did finish first in the entrance exam."

Bakugou steps up to the podium to begin his student pledge.

"I pledge—that I'll be numbe one."

"What the heck!"

"Stop messing around!"

A chorus of "boos" can be heard.

"Why are you doing something so disgraceful?!" Iida scolds.

Bakugou turns around and flashes a thumbs down.

"You're all just stepping stones to my victory."

He walkes back and bumps into Midorya on the shoulder.

"Now, the first fateful game! This year it's... this!"

The screen flashes the words "obstacle race" and I sigh in relief.

I don't need to touch anyone else, just get through this.

"All 11 classes will participate in this race! The course will be the outer circumference of this arena—about 4 kilometers! Our school's selling point is freedom!"

Midnight licks her lips.

"As long as you stay on the course, it doesn't matter what you do! Now, take your places everyone!

Everyone crowds around the entrance to the race.

There's too many people—its going to get clogged. I'll have to use something that will get me above all these people.

"Start!"
