After awhile of walking Ace, Dawn, Brock, and Ash made it to the first gym. They stopped at the Pokemon Center to heal their Pokemon. Ace went with Brock to get more stock up on supplies.

While they had been heading to the first gym. Dawn caught a Buneary and Aah caught a Turtwig. They had met up with Paul again. None of them liked the trainer and how he treats his Pokemon.

Ash and Dawn waited for them at the Pokemon Center. "I can't wait to get my first gym badge." Said Ash excitedly.

"I can't wait to see my first gym battle." Said Dawn. She wanted to see how it is different to Contests battles.

"It's amazing and it's filled with a lot of excitement and energy." Said Ash just getting excited about the thought of battling.

At that moment Ace and Brock came back. They then headed to the Gym. When they meet the Gym leader and they had a adventure with him. They were happy about helping him dig up some old fossil's. Ace even got one he could receive when they got to the right lab.

After that they went back to the gym so Ash could have his battle. He is very excited for it & both Ace and Dawn are excited to see their first Gym battle.

Dawn, Ace, and Brock are now sitting on the bleachers and Ash is standing on the battle field with the Gym Leader Roark."let the Gym battle begin!" Called their referee.

"Go Geodude!" Called Roark throwing a Poke'ball. Out of it came a rock shaped Pokemon. It's gray and has arms that's the same color as it's body.

"Go Aipom!" Called Ash. Out came the long tailed Pokemon. He grew ready to tattle at once.

"He's using a normal type?" That isn't going to do any good." Said Dawn confused by Ash's choice of Pokemon.

"Don't worry. He knows what he's doing. Aipom knows some helpful moves." Said Brock.

"I'm going to have to agree. That Aipom seems to know more then what we think." Said Ace. He could tell Aipom knew a few other moves then what they believed.

"Geodude use Rollout!" Called Roark.

"Aipom use Agility to Dodge it!" Called Ash.

Aipom got out of the way just in time. "Aipom now use Water Pulse!" Called Ash with a smrk.

Roark was surprised that Aipom to know other types of moves. Dawn was surprised to see Aipom shot out a blast of water at a shocked Geodude. The rock type sent rolling and into the wall. He then had swirls in his eyes.

"Geodude is unable to battle! Aipom is the winner of the first round." Said the referee.

"See? Ash's Aipom learned a few moves of other types of Pokemon. Aipom is a normal type Pokemon. Normal types can learn moves from other Pokemon." Brock explained to Dawn.

"Amazing! I didn't know that." Said Dawn.

"It's true. I learned about that when I read up on Normal type Pokemon. It's amazing what they can do and learn." Said Ace.

Dawn nodded agreeing with her brother. Ash had that up his sleeve?" Asked Dawn.

"He did. Ash may act dumb, but he has a lot of surprises when he battles." Said Brock with a smile. He remembers his first time battling Ash and he is glad he made the decision to travel with Ash.

"Amazing! I would like to have a practice battle with Ash one of these days." Said Ace.

"Well done Ash. I wasn't expecting that. Let's see how you do with this Pokemon." Said Roark as he then threw another Pokemon calling out, "Go Cranidos!"
Out came a light blue and gray Pokemon. It looked like a Dinasor. It had red eyes and horns on it's head.

Ash looked up the Pokemon and his Poke'dex said:

"Cranidos, the Head Butt Pokemon

Cranidos lived in the ancient jungle and cleared it's path by headbutting trees to make them fall down. It was restored from a fossil."

"Wow. That's amazing." Said Ace hearing this from Dawn's Poke'dex.

"Yeah. It's amazing what science can do." Dawn agreed. Brock nodded his agreement.

"We'll have to be careful Aipom." Ash called to his Pokemon. Aipom nodded showing how serious he is taking this.

"Cranidos use Take Down!" Called Roark.

"Aipom use your tail to dodge!" Called Ash.

Aipom didn't get out of the way in time and took a direct hit. Aipom got up shaky and got ready. "Aipom are you okay?" Asked Ash worried for his friend.

"Aipom." He called out to his trainer. 'Okay, Aipom use Double Team and then use Water Pulse!" Ash called.

Aipom made a bunch of copies of himself. Then they all used Water Pulse. It hit Cranidos. The Head Butt Pokemon took a bunch of hits.

"No Cranidos!" Cried Roark worried for his partner.

When Aipom stopped it showed Cranidos panting and worn out by the Water Pulse's. Aipom looked a bit worn out as well.

"Ash better finish this. Both Pokemon are tired. He may still have one other Pokemon he can use, but even it doesn't know any moves to help him with this." Said Ace.

"I agree with you there." Said Brock.

"Go Ash! Aipom! You can do it!" Called Dawn. She has been cheering for him this hole time. Ace shook his head when he saw her dressed like a cheerleader.

"Cranidos quick use Headbutt!" Called Roark.

"Aipom use Tackle to dodge and then use Water Pulse one more time!" Called Ash thinking quickly.

Aipom just got out of the way. Even with being worn down Cranidos still moved fast. He then sent out a strong Water Pulse, wanting to put everything he had into it. The attack hit Cranidos head on and the rock type cried out in pain.

The attack stopped and Cranidos fell down with swirls in it's eyes. "Cranidos is unable to battle. Aipom and Ash are the winners of the last round and the gym battle." Called the referee.

(Ash already beaten Onix. I forgot to put that battle in.)

"Yeah! He won!" Said Dawn happily.

"He did great." Said Ace with a smile.

"Yeah. Ash handled that battle." Said Brock.

They headed down to the battle faild to greet Ash. Roark smiled and returned his Pokemon. "Thank you Cranidos. You did your best." He then walked up to Ash and said, "Thank you for that amazing battle. You deserve this Coal badge."

He handed Ash the dark gray badge. "Thank you Roark. I had a great time as well." Said Ash as he took the badge. He smiled and said, "All right! We got our first Gym Badge."

"Pika!" Cried Pikachu happily."

They said goodbye to Roark and headed to the Pokemon center. They had Ash's Aipom healed and then called Dilta and then Professor Oak about Ash's Gym battle.

They then decided to stay one more night and then head off in the morning. They had just finished dinner and are now watching their Pokemon run around playing.

The four of them talked and got to know each other more. Ace couldn't wait to learn more about all of the Ice Pokemon out there. He was amazed by the ones Ash and Brock saw.

When it got late they went to bed. They needed to wake up early to head out. Dawn had a room by herself and Ace stayed with Ash and Brock.
