Chapter 4
Tin's POV
Although I had awakened feeling almost unbearable pain all over my body, I had awakened happy somehow. I had awakened from a beautiful dream.
In that dream, Can and I were in a wide open space, the blue sky above us showing a big gorgeous rainbow, with white fluffy clouds that looked like cotton candy.
Also, in that dream, Can was holding my hand tightly and was telling me, "Ask me to be your boyfriend again, because this time I'm going to say yes."
Just then, a nurse walked in carrying a syringe.
"Are you going to stick that into me?" I asked feeling a little nervous.
"No," she said, "I'm gonna stick it into this IV bag. It's a strong painkiller to take care of your pain."
I breathed loudly in relief. I was not really afraid of needles but I was already in so much pain, I didn't need any more pain to be added to what I was already feeling.
"Didn't I get any visitors ever since I was wheeled into this room?" I asked sadly, noting the empty room I was in.
"Your mom was here earlier," the nurse said, "she just stepped out to sign some more consent forms. She should be back any minute."
"So it was only my mom who came to see me?" I asked, feeling some kind of emptiness in my chest.
"You had three other visitors when you were in the Recovery room but they have left," she said, "they might come back tomorrow."
I wondered who those three visitors were. I could only think of Pete and Ae. No, the third one could not be Can. I had left him standing at the parking lot, almost in tears because I had rejected his offer of friendship.
If Can was not my third visitor, who could it have been?
I wished that I had my phone with me so that I could call Pete. For sure, he would be able to tell me.
I started to feel drowsy as the painkiller started to take effect on me. It was numbing my pain, my bodily pain. I wished that it would numb my mental pain as well.
I must have slept through the night because when I awoke again, it was morning. The sunlight was streaming through my window.
There was a knock on the door and a nurse came in. She took my blood pressure and heart rate and my temperature. Then using her stethoscope, she listened to my stomach.
"Very good," she said, after removing her stethoscope, "I could hear sounds in your stomach and intestines. We can now bring you some Jello to start your food intake."
"Thank you," I said, "I'm actually starting to feel hungry."
By mid morning, my mom came in bringing a transparent hospital bag that was labeled "Patient Belongings". Inside were my personal stuff which included my phone, thank heavens. Now I can contact Pete.
"I have just met with your doctor," said my mom, "he told me that the nurse reported to him that you can now have something to eat."
"Yes," I said, "I was given a cup of Jello to start with."
I was wondering if I should ask mom about the three visitors in the Recovery room that the nurse had mentioned to me earlier.
I did not have the chance to do so, because she volunteered the information to me.
"Do you know a young man named Can?" she asked casually.
My heart jumped to my throat. It was a good thing that the nurse was not here to take my heart rate because it was shooting through the ceiling.
