Bucky had held Sally close to him all the flight to the shield tri-carrier. Steve couldn't help but smile at the sight of his best friend, who actually looked relaxed for once. The baby in his arms slept peacefully only occasionally moving slightly. When they arrived a solider moved forward to take Sally to the medical bay but Bucky growled at him glaring murderously. Daring him to remove his kid from him the solider didn't know what to do not wanting to disobey orders but also not wanting to die. Natasha, noticing that Bucky was not going to back down sighed and stepped forward to the solider.

"Don't worry, we'll bring her to the med bay ourselves" The solider smiled to Nat and saluted before leaving. "You may want to get that over protectiveness under wraps before we get to the med bay" Bucky rolled his eyes before walking ahead of the group, the rest of them followed quickly after him. Upon entering the med bay the group saw Bruce Banner working on his laptop glancing up to see the group his eyes lingering on Nat for a second longer before quickly looking back at his work.

"Ah, so this must be the baby you found at the Hydra base?" He asked standing up from his desk moving forward.

"Yeh, you may wanna watch yourself though Manchurian Candidate here might rip your head off if you get to close" Bucky again rolled his eyes a trait that usually was reserved for Tony. Bruce smiled but looked slightly scared despite knowing he could go 'Hulk' to protect himself. 

"Well, if I may, I would like to run some tests just to make sure everything is okay" Bruce slowly held his hands out to take the baby making Bucky unconsciously hold on tighter to Sally. Steve noticed this and placed a comforting hand on Bucky's shoulder.

"It's okay Bucky, she'll be fine" Bucky took a shaky breath looking down to his daughter before gently handing her over to Bruce who smiled gently at Bucky before taking her over to the desk. Bucky watched Bruce work intently and after what felt like an eternity Bruce finally handed Sally back over to Bucky. 

"Well, it seems the effects of being in Cryostasis for so long seems to of had a worse effect then it did on Steve here." 

"What's wrong with her?" Nat asked worry in her voice.

"In layman's terms, the Cryostasis has damaged her eyes to an irreparable degree" This news made Bucky want to track down every single Hydra agent and murder them with his bare hands but Bruce wasn't finished. "Also, there seems to be a trait she seems to have picked up from her mother." The mention of Veronica made Bucky's head shoot up towards Bruce. "She appears to have DNA that would match, that of a mutant. Someone who has inhumane abilities from birth." 

"Wait, Veronica was a mutant? Bucky did you know this?" Bucky shuck his head.

"N-no, she never told me that" The group fell silent until the door slammed open making Sally squirm but Bucky quickly bounced her calming her down. The group turned around and saw a angry Nick Fury. To be fair when wasn't he angry?. 

"I just got told that you guys not only stormed a Hydra base without clearance but you also managed to take an experiment from them?" Bucky glared daggers at the man, he never liked Nick Fury but when he heard that someone was just calling his daughter an experiment it made him mad. Nick caught sight of Sally and nodded towards her. "Is that it?" 

"She is not an it. Her name is Sally, Sally Barnes" This made Nick raise a surprised eyebrow.

"You've got a kid? Since when?" Bucky chewed the inside of his cheek trying to repress his anger.

"Before, Hydra got to me I met this woman called Veronica Smith. One day she just disappeared. I guess Hydra found out about her, either that she knew me or that she was a mutant. Either one they found her, killed her and took Sally to be experimented on" Nick nodded processing.

"Okay then, well we need to start clean-up with this entire situation" He gripped his nose bridge in frustration. "Starting with the kid.." Bucky looked at the man worriedly as he turned to the solider next to him. "...We can send her to that big school full of other mutants, can't remember the name of the man who ran it, but she'll fit in there" At hearing that his daughter was going to be taken away he opened his mouth to speak.

"No!" Tony, Steve, Nat, Bucky and Bruce all spoke up. This made Nick look at them surprised.

"Come on Fury, you can't just give up the kid" Tony argued.

"She wouldn't be safe out there, what if Hydra takes her again?" Steve said trying to reason with him.

"Also, do you really think Bucky would just let you take his kid away?" Nat added in. Nick turned towards Bucky who looked like he was wordlessly daring him to try and take his kid. Nick then turned to Banner.

"It would be interesting to see how mutant abilities change as they grow up" Bruce said sheepishly. Nick sighed rubbing his face. 

"Well, who's gonna take care of her? Cause I sure as hell ain't running a daycare here" Bucky spoke up this time.

"I will of course, I'm here dad" He then looked down to the sleeping Sally. "I nearly lost you once, I'm not losing you again" Steve then added in.

"Plus, I'm sure the other Avengers are more then willing to help out" He shot the others a look to dare them to challenge but he didn't even need to. Despite only knowing about Sally for a few hours they were all already smitten with her. Even the other avengers who met her on the plane like Vision, Wanda, Clint and Pietro. After thinking for a minute Nick sighed again.

"Fine, you can keep her. But we'll be watching you Barnes, one slip up and she's going to the mutant school" Bucky just nodded. After Bruce had fully checked her over deeming how bad the blindness was plans were made where Sally would stay until Bucky had appropriate living conditions. In the end, Vision and Wanda agreed to watch over her in the Tri carrier whilst Bucky bought baby things with the help of Steve and Tony. 

On the third day of Wanda and Vision bonding with Sally, Wanda looked away for a minute and when she looked back her eyes widened in shock. Smoke was seeping out of Sally's skin and despite her being nearly two months old she was already crawling. They figured this was due to her mutant side. Wanda called for Vision not knowing what to do when Sally shot across the room in a cloud of smoke. This lead her down the hall making the two adults chase after her but as they turned the corner they couldn't see her at all. Vision looked down both corridors before sighing.

"Bucky is going to kill us"

Down the halls, the god of lighting and the god of mischief walked down the hallways when something suddenly hit the god of mischief's boots. Looking down she saw a baby with smoke pouring out of it's skin. But what confused him what the fact that she had red eyes and kept crawling into the walls. He knelt down and gently picked up the baby turning to his brother.

"I didn't know SHIELD ran a daycare" Thor looked at the small baby equally as confused.

"I'm just as confused as you brother" 

"Let's go find your Avenger friends and see what they know" As they walked down the hallways the baby girl snuggled into Loki's chest slowly falling to sleep. Despite himself, Loki wore a small smile at the sight. Soon they began to hear yelling near the sleeping quaters of the ship.

"What do you mean you lost her?! You do realise we are on a ship in the sky?! If she gets out what if she falls off?!" The two gods made their way around the corner seeing Bucky being held back by Tony and Steve from killing Vision and Wanda.

"We don't know what happened Bucky. One minute she's on the floor laughing at her feet the next she's halfway down the hallway in a cloud of smoke" Before Bucky could kill the two Thor spoke up.

"Hello friends!" The avengers waved towards Thor not noticing Loki and what/who he was holding.

"If I may, is this what your so worried about?" Loki asked making the group look to him. Steve and Tony let go of Bucky as he went to Loki who handed Sally over to him. "She ran into us near the weapons room" Bucky wasn't listening as he was just glad his little girl was safe and back with him. During the three days away he had managed to get his apartment sorted out and it was now safe for a baby to live in. That night after settling Sally into her crib he placed a gentle kiss on top of her head and placed the small wolf plush next to her before bringing her red blanket up.

"Goodnight baby girl" Bucky said before turning off the lights and shutting the door. As the door shut, large stars light up the room making the patterns of the constellations shine, courtesy of Tony Stark.
