Bucky and Steve sat on the tall wooden bar stools as they both took small sips from their drinks they had been talking to each other throughout the night until it got onto the topic of relationships. Bucky brought up Peggy to tease Steve as he always got flustered whenever the attractive brunette was mentioned. Bucky smirked at his achievement that was until Steve turned the tables on his best friend.

"Well what about Veronica?" Bucky stopped taking a drink when her name was brought up a pink tint rising on his cheeks at the mention of the woman. 

"I don't know what you mean?" This made Steve smirk.

"Oh, come on I saw you two hit it off the other night" Bucky looked down try to not blush even more. But he couldn't help but think even more of the stunning women he met a few nights ago. Her long flowing blonde hair, her deep blue eyes and her amazing laugh that always made Bucky smile when he thought about it. Seeing that Steve had him at that point he let out a sigh but still smiled.

"Okay, so we hit it off we ended up talking the rest of the night and then she invited me back to her place" at hearing this Steve rolled his eyes.

"Of course, the evenings you have always seem to end with you going back to their place" This statement made Bucky frown slightly. True it must seem like just another hook up for Bucky but this time it felt different. 

"No, not this time Steve. I don't know why but I felt something different with this one. She might even be the one I was meant to find" Steve's eyes widened slightly at hearing this.

"Man, I never thought I'd hear you say that. But congrats man, maybe you could introduce me one day" Bucky smiled at that already hoping he could get another date with the woman of his dreams.

That was nearly ten months ago and since that night Bucky hadn't even heard from Veronica. After the first month had gone by without so much as a word from her Bucky could actually feel his heart breaking thinking he had been a fool to think such an amazing women would want to be with a idiot like himself. As the war was approaching and Bucky knew he would enlist with or without his best friend he was unprepared to be captured by a group called Hydra. It wouldn't be for years until he found out that Veronica was keeping a secret away from him.

Veronica got up for the forth time that night to the sound of screaming from the room next door. She slammed her hands down on her bed and begrudgingly got out of her queen-sized bed to go to the room next door. She aggressively slammed the door open to glare at the small wooden cot across the room. Inside the cot was a small baby girl crying so hard that her face was going red the baby had tufts of dark brown hair growing and underneath her shut eyelids were chocolate brown eyes.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" Veronica yelled at the screaming baby instead of the baby stopping it screamed even louder. "I am not picking you up! I have changed you, feed you and bathed you already! You don't need anything else!" She internally knew that the baby would shut up if she just picked her up and hugged her but she refused to make any bond with that thing. The little girl just reminded her of her father from the minute Veronica started talking to him she knew he wanted a serious relationship but for her she just wanted to let off some steam. After avoiding the man for nine months she gave birth the baby girl naming her, Sally but even though she didn't want to bond with her she couldn't give her to the father as she knew this could make him want to possibly get married which made Veronica sick to think of being married to anyone. As the baby continued to cry their was a sharp knock on the door making Veronica groan in annoyance. "See what you did?! Probably the landlord kicking us out because of the noise!" As Veronica opened her apartment door she was shocked to see multiple armed men aiming guns at her within an instant she dodged out of the bullets path and as the men entered she fired shards of ice at them. Oh didn't I mention, Veronica was a mutant. As she continued to fight she didn't realise their was a guard slowly aiming his gun at her until he managed to shoot her right in the chest making her gasp in pain. The remaining armed men watched as she went to the floor holding her bleeding wound. One of the men left the room and re-entered holding Sally, who was actually stopping her crying finally being held and given some form of attention. Veronica looked from Sally to the armed men she saw white writing on their outfits reading Hydra. Veronica remembered when she was talking to Sally's father how he mentioned how he was going to help fight against the Hydra group when he had the chance to. Letting out a chuckle. "Oh, great now another reason to not sleep with Bucky Barnes" With that said she slumped to the ground her blood pooling around her. The leader of the Hydra group looked to his men speaking up.

"Okay, let's get back to base, we got what we needed" The men travelled for a day or two getting back to their base where they took Sally to the scientist who had been very excited to start his experiment. He wanted to see what would happen to cryogenically freeze a young infant and see how they reacted to the intense cold. After the baby had been feed and bathed she was left in nothing but her nappy. One guard then held her still as another one came up to her pressing a burning metal against her arm making her cry in pain. When he removed the metal there still shining slightly red was the brand all of the Hydra agents wore burned into her arm nearly touching her shoulder. "This way if she does survive we can start training her when she is ready". The next and final stage was to place her into a small metal pod once it was shut the doctor started the process of freezing her crying could be heard from outside the pod until the process was complete the scientist looked inside expecting to see a dead infant when he saw what seemed to be a sleeping baby he looked at the baby's vitals and she was still very much alive. Now all she had to do was survive as long as they wanted her to be frozen.
