Part 44: Coffee Shop
November 25, 2018
CENTRAL CITY
9:50 am
During the week, Henry and Iris had talked things out and now the two were on good terms. After finishing up his breakfast, Henry headed towards his father's apartment to pick him up. Barry had told him to meet him at his place before they headed to work together. So with a container full of fresh baked croissants, Henry did just that.

BARRY'S APARTMENT
10:00 am
Waking up bright and early Iris decided to surprise Nora and Barry by making breakfast. Gathering her ingredients Iris began to make some pancake batter. Pouring the batter on a pan Iris tried but failed to form some lighting bolts out of the batter. While the batters cooked Iris got started on the bacon.
With the bacon sizzling in the pan and headphones on, Iris failed to notice that the pancakes were burning. Smelling the smell of smoke Iris turned around to see the burning pancakes. Rushing towards them Iris accidentally pulled the plug on her headphones in her haste. The song from her phone blared out startling Nora who fell asleep on the couch while playing video games.
PARALLEL
Standing up Nora rubbed the sleep away from her eye before glancing at the time on the wall.
"Sorry," apologized Iris, quickly shutting off the music.
"What are you doing?" asked Nora making her way towards her mother.
"Making breakfast," smiled Iris triumphantly. Looking around at the mess Iris called breakfast Nora grimaced.
"How delightful," she replied back.
After getting full dressed Barry walked into the room with his satchel in hand. "Morning guys," said Barry looking at the pair. "What do we have here?" he asked, noticing the kitchen's condition.
"Hey babe," replied Iris greeting Barry with a kiss. "I just made breakfast so that we can all eat together. As a family," she smiled looking at them.
"Wow," replied Barry as Iris walked by with a plate full of burnt toast and poorly chopped bananas. "Do you need any help?" he inquired looking at her 'breakfast'.
"Nope. You guys sit," she insisted before placing down their plate of food at their respective seats.
"Ok," replied Barry before taking their seat along with Nora.
After placing their breakfast down Iris made her way to the kitchen to chop some more fruits.
"What...is...this?" asked Barry, staring down at his plate.
"It's pancakes! Shaped as mini lighting bolts!" exclaimed Iris from the kitchen. "There was a little uneven cause the batter was a bit runny," she explained their weird form. "But you see the zig-zag pattern right?" she asked as they nodded their head so that they wouldn't hurt her feelings.
"Yeah," replied Nora.
"Totally," answered Barry.
Taking a knife and fork in hand Nora was the first to try a piece of the pancake.
"Well, how are they?" inquired Iris.
Chewing her food Nora tried not to wince in disgust. "Mhhm," she hummed. "They're so good," she replied.
"Really?" asked Iris, glowing. Barry always thought her cooking wasn't the best.
"Mhm," said Nora, forcing herself to swallow a bit of the food to show Iris she really did eat it. Smiling Iris turned her attention back to her cutting board. Grabbing a nearby rag Nora spat her food into as Iris was too busy to notice.
Looking at Nora's reaction Barry dreaded the thought of eating his breakfast. Suddenly the doorbell rang, saving Barry.
"I got it!" he said super speeding to answer it.
Opening the door Barry was met with the sight of his son, Henry.
"Henry," said Barry, looking at him with a smile.
"Good morning dad," smiled back Henry. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything?" he said as he peered into the room.
"No. Not at all," replied Barry shaking his head before stepping to the side. "Please come in," he gestured.
Walking into the room Henry took in the scene. His father's apartment looked homey, but not the same as it will be in the future once he moves in with his mother. The kitchen was a mess. Henry could see that from afar. Iris must be trying to cook again he mused before looking at Nora who sat by the table drinking a glass of orange juice.
"Aunt Iris," greeted Henry looking at said woman. "Nora," he replied icily glaring at his step-sister.
"Hello Henry," smiled Iris. "Would you like some breakfast?" she asked, placing some fruits beside Nora. Looking at the display of food that had been either burnt or looking uneatable, Henry shook his head no.
"I'll pass," he blurted out grimacing. Seeing that he spoke it out so bluntly Henry emphasized on his answer.
"I mean no thank you. You see I already had a big breakfast," he said taking a seat before placing his container on the surface of the table.
"Really? What did you have?" asked Iris curiously.
"Just some waffles, frittatas, scones, croissants, and french toast," answered Henry.
"You made all that?" said Iris impressed.
"With the help of mom of course," added Henry. "She's a great cook," smiled Henry.
"She really is," sighed Barry thinking of the amazing meal he had last time at Caitlin's.
"Speaking of," Henry interrupted Barry of his thoughts. "Mom told me to bring some freshly baked croissants," he said opening the container. "She didn't want me to walk through the doors empty handed," he ended as the smell of the pastry engulfed Barry.
"Food! Real Food!" shouted Barry scrambling towards the container. Grabbing two Barry stuffed it into his mouth.
"Ugh you're a lifesaver Henry," he said through a mouthful as Iris stared at him in shock.
"Don't thank me. Thank mom," said Henry brushing his comment to the side.
Clearing her throat Iris got their attention. "Why don't you have a bite of my breakfast," emphasized Iris looking at her husband pointedly.
"Oh, I would love to Iris," said Barry standing up, grabbing his things. "But I'm afraid Henry and I are running late," he glanced at the time before putting on his coat as Henry did the same.
"But you didn't even eat your breakfast," stated Iris looking at what she made. Seeing her distracted Nora also grabbed a croissant to eat. She may not like the woman, but she was one hell of a cook. And she preferred not to starve.
"I got it right here," said Barry snatching another croissant Caitlin had made, causing Henry to smirk. "Bye!" he yelled as the two speedsters exited the apartment.
Taking her seat Iris folded her arms scoffing. Looking at the container full of croissant Iris grabbed one before taking a bite. "These are actually not that bad," she commented looking at the pastry.

CCPD
12:15 pm
Barry gathered the loose pieces of paper scattered across his desk as Henry paced back and forth in his office.
"Come on dad. We're gonna be late," noted Henry glancing down at his watch.
"I know, I know," groaned Barry shuffling the stack of paper in his hand before setting them down. "I just need to put this sample in the analysis-" began Barry before Henry interrupted.
"Machine for Captain Singh. Yeah I know, it's already done," he answered for him. "So can we please go. I don't want to keep mom waiting," replied Henry as he looked at the time again. They were supposed to meet Caitlin down at Jitters by 12:30.
"Alright, alright," said Barry giving in. He knew that Henry had a soft spot when it came to his mother. Always wanting to be there for her. He would literally come running home to her, because home was where the heart was and Caitlin was Henry's home. "Let's go," he said, slinging on his jacket as the pair made their way out.

C.C. JITTERS
12:20 pm
Arriving at the famous coffee shop Caitlin glanced at the time. Seeing that she was a bit early Caitlin decided to get a bite to eat while she waited for her two favorite speedsters. Standing in line Caitlin waited patiently to order.
Walking into the coffee shop a fine dressed man in a suit and tie entered. He was a reporter at CCPN. Part of the sport section. His name was Jason North. He was tall, dark, and handsome. Well built and walked with confidence in his strides. He was smooth with his words and made sure everyone knew it just by looking at him.
[Jason North played by Micheal B. Jordan]
So walking into the little cafe, Jason stood in line with the other customers. Pulling out her phone Caitlin looked to see if she had any missed calls from Henry or Barry. Noticing Caitlin standing in front of him Jason smirked giving her a once over. Seeing as she was wearing a New York Knicks basketball jersey Jason decided to make his move.
"Are you a fan?" he whispered in her ears.
"Excuse me?" asked Caitlin abruptly turning around startled by the man's presence.
"Your shirt," he pointed out. "It's for the New York Knicks. Are you a fan of theirs?" he asked again.
"Oh," replied Caitlin looking down at it. "Yeah, I am," she replied shyly. Looking up Caitlin took a good look at the man. He was rather handsome now that she had a good look at him. Noticing that she was staring Caitlin blushed before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear nervously.
"They are one of my favorite teams," she added.
"Mine too," smiled Jason. "I'm actually from New York. Have you ever been there before?" he asked.
"No, but it's always been a dream of mine to visit New York," she smiled at the thought of it.
Looking at her Jason couldn't help but smile. "I'm Jason by the way. Jason North," he said stretching out his hand.
"Caitlin Snow," replied Caitlin, shaking it.
"Are you new around here? I've never seen you before," he wondered curiously.
"No, I've been in this city for quite awhile," she laughed lightly.
"You were born here?" he asked.
"No, I'm from Coast City. I moved here to start my dream job," she replied.
"And what might that be?" he wondered.
"I'm a doctor and biochemist at Star Laboratory," answered Caitlin shyly.
"Well that's quite an accomplishment. Congratulations," he praised.
"Thanks," she smiled.
"What's it like?" he asked.
"It's alright. We do a lot of testing everyday. Finding new ground breaking research. Lots of analyzing and testing. I enjoy the interactive side of things. Helping people that is," she rambled off noticing that he had zoned out.
"It can get a bit boring," she confessed. "But I wouldn't want to bore you with the facts," she added, making him zone back in.
"Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" he tried apologizing.
"It's fine. What is it that you do?" said Caitlin, cutting him off.
"I'm a reporter at CCPN," he smiled.
"Oh really! I have a friend that works there," she said thinking of Iris. Her and Iris had patched things up and came to an agreement.
"Really? What's their name? I might know them," smiled Jason seeing as he was quite popular.
"Iris West-Allen," replied Caitlin, a bit sad seeing as Iris now had Barry's last name.
"Iris West?" recalled Jason dismissing her new name. "Oh! I know her! Isn't she that chick who had that blog about 'The Streak'," said Jason making a disgusted face at Barry's alter ego's old name.
"That's the one," laughed Caitlin lightly.
"Your friends with her?" he asked in shock.
"More like acquaintances than anything," she added as they didn't really hangout a lot.
"Well no offense. But Iris can be a bit bossy at times," he emphasized. "A bit self-centered if you ask me. And quite a hypocrite. Always wanting her way and making a big deal about it if she doesn't get it," he said, remembering of a time where Iris stole a case that was supposed to go to him.
"She is also so annoying with her constant nagging. I don't know how you can deal with her," said Jason shaking his head.
"I wonder the same thing everyday," replied Caitlin, causing Jason to laugh.
"God help us all," he prayed as the barista called upon them to order.
Taking a step forward Caitlin began to order before paying. Following suit, Jason did the same thing.
------------------------------------------------
12:30 pm
Standing to the side Jason and Caitlin waited on their order.
"So what's a beautiful girl like you doing in a coffee shop all alone?" wondered Jason turning to look her over.
"I'm actually waiting on a friend," replied Caitlin, smiling.
"Really?" he asked.
"Uh huh," nodded Caitlin glancing down at her phone.
Walking along the street Henry glanced at the famous coffee shop.
"Come on dad. Hurry up!" called Henry looking behind him.
"Alright. I'm coming," replied Barry trying to catch up.
Opening the doors Henry looked around for his mother.
Looking at her Jason gathered enough courage to ask Caitlin out.
Spotting Caitlin among the crowd Henry ran towards her.
"So I was wondering," began Jason causing Caitlin to look up. "If you're not busy. Maybe you'll like to go to a basketball game with me this weekend?" asked Jason.
Opening her mouth Caitlin was about to reply when Henry shot into her arms.
"Mom!" said Henry excitedly, disregarding the fact that he called her mom.
"Henry!" smiled Caitlin hugging back.
"Mom?!" exclaimed Jason in shock.
Letting go of each other the pair turned their attention to Jason. Henry scrunched his eyebrow looking at him quizzically.
"You're his mother?!" said Jason. "He's your son!" he all but shouted.
Looking at him Henry's eyes widened noticing his mistake. Opening his mouth Henry was about to correct his mistake when Caitlin cutted in.
"Yes he's my son," replied Caitlin standing in front of Henry protectively. "Is there a problem?" she asked with an eyebrow raised.
"No! I just-" rambled off Jason trying to explain himself. Looking at his family from across the room, Barry sensed the tension between the pair and the man. Walking over towards them Barry wrapped a protective arm around Caitlin's waist.
"Hey Cait," he said kissing her on the forehead.
"Hi Barry," responded Caitlin, still awaiting Jason's answer.
"Who is this?" asked Jason looking at Barry's arm around Caitlin's waist.
"This is Barry. Henry's father," gestured Caitlin as Jason's eyes bugged out.
"His f-father! You're his father! He's your son!" said Jason looking between the two men. They did look alike. And Henry did have a bit of Caitlin's features in him. It was uncanny and nearly impossible for him to be their biological son. Yet something about the scene set him off.
"Yes he is. Is that a problem?" asked Barry looking at him dangerously. Looking at him Jason shaked his head rapidly. He was fine with Caitlin, but finding out that she had a son seemed like a lot for Jason. He wasn't ready for that type of baggage, and he sure as hell wasn't about to tell her that in front of Barry.
"No of course not!" replied Jason quickly collecting his beverage. "I think I'm gonna just-", he gestured towards the door before running away.
"Well that was awkward," spoke Henry breaking the silence.
Looking at her son Caitlin shook her head, huffing out a laugh. Grabbing the food Caitlin turned towards her boys. "So how was work?" she asked as they searched for a booth. Finding one in the back the trio began to talk about their day.
