Chapter Two
Aurora walked the entire way. She had on a white dress with blue and purple swirls. She squeezed Kelden's hand with more strength than usual. She feared she wouldn't pass the test."Don't worry. You will pass with flying colors. I know you will love it at NorthWind."Tegan said, taking her free hand. Her heart flew again and she almost lost balance as he smiled. They arrived at a diamond material castle."How do you get so many diamonds?"Aurora asked. Kelden chuckled."Before we left the humans to their own resources, we mined all the valuable ores so they could never be clouded with greed."He explained. She looked at the two guards. White hair with silver armor. The animals by their side were dog like."Those are acid hounds. They spit acid. One drop can melt through fourteen layers of solid metal."Tegan said. The drool must have been non effecting. They were four feet tall, black leathery skin. The only fur they had was around their necks. They had red eyes, blood red. They glared at Aurora as she walked through the diamond gates. As they walked into a large room, Aurora watched as a boy about 13 years old dashed through the halls. She didn't get out of the way in time. Tegan glared at the boy. Aurora came to life, seeing the boy on her. He gasped as he noticed her eyes."Sorry! Didn't mean it."He quickly said. He glanced back and then looked at Tegan. Tegan motioned him on and he ran off. Aurora heard Tegan mutter something that sounded like " Watch where he is going next time". She giggled and stopped when he looked back at her. Kelden scooped them in. Five chairs with five people in front of them. Four men and one woman. She was the High Elder. It seemed like elves never aged. Their body never changed."The woman is Floreli."Kelden said. Floreli was like the Marilyn Monroe of the elf world. She had amber hair with white tips. Her eyes were aquamarine. Ring earrings with blue crystals. A beautiful purple dress with white and green stripes going down. The ribbon around her waist was pink like a cherry blossom with a large aquamarine crystal in the middle. She had a silver crown on, the headpiece gold encrusted with a green emerald. Tegan pointed at a guy who looked the same age as Calvin."That is Belven. He is the youngest elf to ever become an Elder. He still goes to NorthWind though." Aurora began to wonder if charms ran in elf families. He had red hair, wavy. His sky blue eyes captivated her. She tingled from head to toe. Kelden somehow messaged her.You develop too many crushes in one day. I don't see how. She blushed and messaged him back.Charm has to run in every single elf family! I mean look at Tegan and Calvin. Aurora noticed she sent the last sentence. Kelden smiled and made a gesture that showed he would stay quiet.
Floreli smiled at Aurora."First part of your test, display your elf talents. Second part, show us what you can do as a wolf."She announced. Aurora nodded. First, she would show her fire skills. Her hands closed, leaving two fingers to get her on each. She took in a deep breath. Her hands shot up, a ribbon of fire coming out of both. Her hands moved with grace, the fire following her movements. The fires danced like graceful leaves swirling on the flowing winds. Around her hips formed hoops of water. She began to move her hips as if hula hooping, the water following them. With the water she extinguished the flames. Then, wind circled her wrists, extending into ribbons. An open window, Aurora saw it and smiled. Large rocks came through the Windows hurtling towards the Elders. The boys flinched, Floreli already knew the good intentions. The cloud like ribbons, performing as whips, slashed at the rocks which shattered at the impact. She waved her arms and everything ceased. Aurora bowed. Floreli nodded. She cast a wondrous glance at Belven, who flashed a white smile. "There is a room next door love. Go change into your wolf because I know that when you shift, you don't take your clothes with you."Floreli said. Aurora curtsied and walked out of the room. The boy from before almost crashed into her again, but stopped a few feet before."Who are you always running from?"She asked, laughing. He smiled."I'm Norin, the troublemaker. Someone is always after me."He answered. Is Norin elvish for something? He had coffee brown eyes that stood apart from everything else. He had blond hair, spiky in the front. He looked like one of those kids who were like jocks but not that much muscle. The legend is a dude magnet, she thought. She giggled at the thought. Aurora watched as he scratched the back of his neck, blushing. "Well, I gotta go change. Can't keep the Elders waiting!"She quickly said. Aurora thought with that he would just be on his way but it didn't help."What do you mean change? Right, the hybrid. I wanna watch this."Norin said. She groaned on the inside. She walked into the room, empty. Before taking off her dress, a voice startled her. Another cute guy, her age. She was going crazy inside.
Aurora chuckled nervously as he walked closer. He had emerald green eyes and slightly scraggy black hair. He had on jeans with a black jacket, similar to Tegan's. She guessed by his wardrobe, he wasn't an elf."Are you a werewolf?"She asked. He chuckled."Of course. I'm not allowed to be here but I just wanted to say hi to the hybrid. I can't wait to see you at school on Monday."He said. Aurora looked confused."Who are you? Are you psychic?" The boy walked closer."I'm Sorgo. And yes I am."He said. She noticed his cute Irish accent. "Wait a minute, all of the kingdoms go to the same school?"She yelped. He nodded."I don't know how we can all fit, but it's an extremely large school."He answered. She nodded quickly and opened a window."Now please get out Sorgo. Nice to meet you."She urged. He turned into his wolf and jumped out the window. Aurora quickly locked it. She took off her dress and shifted. With her snout, she nudged the clothes into a basket. As a wolf, she wasn't able to open the door. She whined. Aurora remembered Kelden. Can you send someone to open the door? His hearty laugh rang through her mind. She heard to doorknob jiggle. With her claw, she unlocked it. Belven was there. "Come. We are waiting."He said. He had a clear British accent. It seemed like all elves came with an accent. She dipped her large wolf head and walked with him. Tegan smiled and she had to lean against Belven slightly."Stop it!"He growled at Tegan. The teen stopped and looked at his feet. "Can you still use your elf talents as a werewolf?"Helken, the man on the left side of Floreli, asked. He ran his fingers through his light brown hair. Aurora shrugged. She bent a little, spreading her front legs. She flung herself into the air. As she fell, Tegan looked like he was willing to break the fall of a wolf who was probably 4 more times his weight. Then she thought of wind and birds. Wings of clouds exploded from her back. She flew over the head of the Elders.I'm a dragon! She messaged Kelden. Aurora took in a deep breath and breathed out fire. She accidentally set a corner on fire. Floreli held up her hand, showing that nobody should get up. Aurora flicked her tail at that area, water shooting out of it. As it extinguished the fire, the excess water turned into ice. The she wolf landed and almost slipped. Roots sprouted through the floor, wrapping around her feet and holding her steady. She snorted fire and melted the ice, which was absorbed by the roots before retreating to the ground.
Belven nodded at Floreli, as well as Helken. The others agreed as well. Floreli stood up, as graceful as a swan. She smiled at Aurora."The Elders have come to an agreement. You, Aurora Karrier, shall begin going to NorthWind on the first day of school. You will start out in 2nd Layer. But you must find legal guardians before."She said. An angry yell came from the elf not standing up. He had his arms crossed."Get over it Jest. The vote is four to one. She gets to go!"Belven snapped. He stood up, staring down the young Elder. He had red hair that matched his red face. His eyes were night sky blue. "You are too young to be an Elder and too young to order me around!"Jest shot. He looked like an angry wrestler. Floreli looked at Aurora. She shot fire at Jest, a tip of his front hair catching fire. Then she shot an abundance of water, soaking him. She snuffled. Tegan smiled. Aurora barked in joy and bounded over, licking his face. She looked away, embarrassed."It's ok. I used to have a dog. He did that a lot when he was happy."He said, trying to use science to show it wasn't a kiss. Is he seriously comparing me to a dog?She messaged Kelden.Yes, yes he is. After all, your wolf instincts take over when you become that form. She nodded. The wolf used the roots from earlier to open the door. She smiled at the final success without having to ask for help. Aurora entered the other room, but not before running into Norin once more. She gave him a look that said,"Don't you have somewhere to be?" Norin pet her head."Of course not. Nice wolf by the way."He said. He walked off. She snorted and went in. Just to make sure nobody was in the room, she engulfed it with blue flames. She quickly put it out. She changed finally in peace."I wonder if any of the weird guys I met today are in 2nd Layer as well."She muttered to herself. Aurora paused her pondering. Her mind retreated to the words Floreli said. She needed to have legal guardians before the school year started. "Great. Find legal guardians in three days. I'm going on a treasure hunt!"Aurora cursed in wolfish as she slipped on the dress. She straightened it and brushed her hair quickly with her fingers. She sat on the bench. A frustrated sigh brushed through her lips. Aurora buried her face in her hands. Her eyes watered."It's too hard! I can't live a life that I never knew about. I mean, everything I'm going to learn at school is probably going to defy my laws of physics and gravity! Oh I forgot. I can't go to school until I have guardians!"She cried out. The doorknob jiggled. She waved her hand and the door unlocked. She yelped."I forgot about my telekinesis!"Aurora nibbled on her nails. Belven appeared in the doorway once more. He walked over."It must be hard for you as well. Don't worry, I'll make sure you've got good teachers at NorthWind. They will teach you all this as quick as a whip!"He assured. She smiled."Wait, how could you tell I was worried about that?" He grinned."My talent is being able to sense feelings and danger. That's why I'm an Elder."He explained. Belven smiled and looked away.
Tegan watched as Aurora brushed her hair ends with her nails, a nervous habit she did in only times of major worries. "I won't be able to find a legal guardian by then Tegan!"She cried out as his finger touched her shoulder. He backed away."Don't worry, I have you covered. I've got a good friend in the Werewolf Kingdom who would love to take you in!"Kelden inquired. She nodded slowly."When do I meet them?"She then asked. He chuckled. Kelden pulled a purple crystal from under his shirt. It was on a silver thread. He spoke to it."Oren's den." A green portal appeared in front of them. Aurora shrugged and walked into it. She appeared in the middle of a large forest. She picked up a dead branch and sniffed it. Tegan and Kelden came through."Spruce trees. Interesting. So you guys live in the mountains?"Aurora stated. She heard a chuckle in the background. She jumped back, frightened that these were the people Tegan was talking about before the last time she saw her room."Calm down hybrid! It's just me."A voice said softly. She noticed the Irish accent. "Sorgo!"Aurora exclaimed. He walked out of the shadows and smiled."What you doing at Oren's den?"He asked. Sorgo looked back at Tegan and flashed his fangs in a hateful way. "Right. You will love him and his mate! Ylves is one of the most nicest females I've ever met. Most of the ones I met just scratched me." His emerald green eyes tried to pierce into Tegan's soul, but it was barricaded strongly."How do you know him?"Tegan snarled as he said him. Aurora glanced at him, then at Kelden, then back at Tegan."Sorgo and Tegan had a large disagreement a few years back."Kelden said. "A gargantuan one indeed! First he says that I stole his girlfriend, second he says I stole his Roven! Then he lies to Queen Wirwix about me setting fire to the lab!!!! That idiot Sorgo has ticks in his small brain."Tegan exploded. Kelden and Aurora exchanged glances and sighed."Let it go already Tegan. Sorgo has no evidence on you."Aurora said. He scoffed and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Sorgo was in the room when I was changing first. Sneaky guy. Almost took off my dress in front of him." Sorgo blushed, kicking at the dirt. Tegan looked like he was ready to take the bone from the dog. Kelden held him back."You know very well young man that werewolves are not allowed on Elven grounds without permission!"He scolded. Sorgo scoffed, the rebellious young werewolf against it. He flashed a smile at Aurora and left."Lucky Charms can go itch his butt with the leprechauns, I just don't want to see you near him."Tegan growled. After meeting Sorgo once more, his attitude changed from cute and happy to rude and aggressive."So where is Oren?"Aurora asked, hesitant of going near Tegan. Kelden moved in between them, making her more comfortable."Out hunting. The merchant hasn't arrived yet. So they have to hunt until he does so they get valuable items they can sell for territory for hunting grounds." Aurora nodded. She glanced at Tegan, still furious. His eyes met hers, and she saw that he cooled down a bit. Tegan felt guilty, her eyes slightly fogged with fear. He grimaced, tears going down his cheeks. Aurora walked over, trying to see his face. He wiped his tears away, looking at her. He caught a glimpse of his father smiling. "Don't you worry about Sorgo. I'll deal with him at school." Tegan smiled, slightly doubting it.
Kelden hollered happily as a white wolf with brown ears padded up to them. He had yellow eyes, like dandelions. A female was behind him. She was silver with splashes of black and blond. Her eyes were light green. They were as tall as Kelden, who seemed about 7 feet. Oren, the white male, smiled at Aurora. She shifted, not caring about the clothes that would not appear on her body after changing back. Ylves, the female, sniffed Aurora as she sniffed her back. Oren spoke, words not barks and whines."Kelden, my best friend! You bring to me today a pup. Have you not given me and my mate enough?" Kelden laughed his hearty laugh and wrapped his arm around the wolf's neck. "This is no mere pup Oren. This is the hybrid. Aurora. She had been accepted into NorthWind Academy, but she needs legal guardians."Kelden said. Oren nodded slowly, watching Ylves and Aurora play with each other."I won't hesitate to adopt her. But High Alpha Uretes must approve first."Oren answered, snorting. Kelden grabbed his snout and waved it around then let go."Don't worry, I'll work something out. But for now, until Uretes accepts, you and Ylves are her guardians. I trust you will take good care of her." Ylves barked happily as Aurora pinned her down and nipped her feet. Tegan beamed as he jumped in. He tickled Ylves on the stomach. Her paws flailed in the air as she tried not to laugh."If I can't, I can assure you that Ylves always will."Oren said solemnly. He nudged Ylves."We must take her to the den." She nodded, quickly regaining her standing stance. Tegan ran up to Aurora's lumbering form."Just so you know, for the most part Oren and Ylves tend to rarely change into their human forms." Then he placed a magenta dress on her back."I knew you would change here. So I brought it. Mom said that a Reversetors have the power to add patterns as well." He smiled and went back to Kelden, who had opened a portal home. She paused, looking back at the two elves.Thank you.She messaged them both. Kelden gave her his perfect smile, whereas Tegan jumped at the message. Oren chuckled. He moved her forward with his large snout. Aurora smiled and followed them into the large den.
Ylves learned from Oren how to speak normally as if they were human."I'm so glad Kelden brought you to us!"She said, wagging her tail. Oren nuzzled his mate."From Kelden, we heard that you haven't learned to speak this way in wolf form. But you can message us anytime until you learn how to speak wolfish." Oren said. You were speaking wolfish? She asked, messaging. He nodded."Oh, I was wondering what that language was doing in my brain."Aurora spoke. Ylves squealed with joy. They showed her to a large space in the den where a furry bear pelt was on the floor."Your bed. It easily compares to elf beds but much more soft." Oren stated. Aurora smiled and curled up on the pelt. She looked up at them, her leaf green eyes glowing in the darkness."How come Kelden was so sure you would want to take me in?"Aurora asked, curious. Ylves laid down beside her, Oren sitting down."You see Aurora, I am unable to have children of my own. No matter how much we try, I am destined to never birth children. So I have been desperate in finding a child to call my own."Ylves explained."Every orphaned pup we find dies before we can give it a home in our hearts. So when my good friend Kelden offered, we took it! No matter what you are; hybrid, legend, elf, vampire. We just want a child to care for."Oren added. Aurora smiled, burying her head in the soft fur. Oren and Ylves were her guardians now. She would do anything it takes to make them feel like she was birthed into their family." So what Layer are you starting in?" They asked in unison. They all laughed."2nd Layer. What's with the layer thing?" Oren walked over to a wall. It had drawings on it. A hill of coal laid in the back of the den. He took one piece, striking it with a sharp claw. It lit on fire. He tossed it into a pile of sticks. Oren picked one up and waved it in front of the picture. Aurora used her telekinesis to hold it up. He smiled at her help."NorthWind Academy is a large building. It is in layers. The layers represent how you must work hard to dig your way to the top. Being successful generations is important to our kingdoms."Oren explained. The carved picture was a large building. The first layer was made out of obsidian. The second made out of stone. The third made out of dirt, which was crazy. The fourth one was made out of sandstone. The fifth one was glass. The last one was the roof. Another picture showed the building at the top only, revealing the sky where children received medals on a golden slab.
"Do I have to wear a uniform?"She asked, looking at the photo of Ylves and Oren together, earning their medals. Oren had white hair with brown tips on his spiky hair. His yellow eyes glowed with triumph, the medal slipped over his neck. Ylves was almost like Floreli. She had blond hair that reached her waist, the ends looked like they were dipped in a can of black paint. The hair near her shoulders seemed like they were sprayed with silver. Her beautiful light green eyes had made a slight glare in the photo. Their uniforms were gold. They had the same pin. Oren's pin held his cape, Ylves' pin was in her hair. The pin was a silver phoenix. Oren's cape was not gold, it's ends were on fire but not a burning fire. More of a graceful fire. Ylves' dress uniform had fiery ends as well, blue fire. Oren took the photo and put it away."Yes. 2nd Layer has a red uniform."Ylves said. Aurora wondered about the phoenix pin."Why was there a phoenix pin?"She asked. Oren smiled and nudged the pin in front of her. It was barely rusty, shining like it was brand new."Every layer has an animal. Aside from the first layer, nothing lives near obsidian."Oren stated. "2nd Layer's animal is a bat, since bats live in stone caves." Aurora imagined her uniform. A beautiful long red dress with a silver bat pin in her long brown hair. A belt around her waist, like Ylves'. "Tomorrow is school!"She howled with glee. Barks interrupted them."May I come in?" Aurora ran at the sound of the Irish accent. "Looks like the hybrid comes to greet me at the opening." Sorgo said, flashing a smile. He was a pure ebony wolf. His emerald green eyes glowing in the darkness of the night."Can't wait for school huh? Well keep it down hybrid. You are going to wake up the entire werewolf kingdom." Oren stepped in front of her, snarling at Sorgo."Shouldn't you be in bed young man? Don't want you getting detention the first day of school." Sorgo backed up slowly, his ears flattened against his head and his tail tucked between his legs. He ran off. Ylves watched him leave."Seriously Dad!?!"Aurora snarled in frustration. She didn't notice the word Dad slip her tongue. She plopped herself on the pelt, falling asleep. Black fury swimming through her mind like a fire that will never stop burning until it has reaped many souls. Aurora cooled down, noticing the anger was towards nothing at all. Nothing but a petty reason. She would see Sorgo tomorrow anyways. The light of the black fire dimmed.
