Chapter One
Aurora, named after the Northen Lights, sat in the corner as she shied away from the class. Her green and brown eyes searched the classroom. Her hand shot up suddenly, feeling the need to exit the classroom."Yes Miss Karrier?"The teacher asked. She heard the heads of everyone turn to look at her. Aurora suddenly felt nauseous. "May I go to the restroom?"She asked. The teacher nodded. The 11 year old shot up out of her desk and into the silent hallway. She plopped herself onto a bench and fiddled with her fingers. She had this weird feeling. They came back from lunch 10 minutes now but she was still hungry. She remembered the unusual sensation that danced on her tongue as she had ate the hamburger. Aurora wondered if it had to do with her weird powers. She hid the fact that she could turn into a wolf and use telekinesis AND manipulate the main elements from her parents. Aurora buried her face into her hands and sighed shakily as she turned a deathly pale. "What's wrong? Are you skipping?"A voice asked. Her heterochromia eyes shot open and looked up. Her cheeks flushed. The new kid was standing in front of her, his hands tucked into the pockets of his black jacket."Of course not. I just feel sick."She said, looking him in the eyes. Aurora tried to look away, but he locked their gaze. He let go and took off his jacket."You look cold. Use my jacket."He said."I'm Aurora. Thanks."She said as she gratefully took the jacket with a smile. He slightly blushed."I'm..."He trailed off, as if trying to think of a name. "I'm Austin."He quickly said. He ran his fingers through his blond mixed with brown hair. He had cappuccino eyes that glowed a bit. He examined her face."Wow, your eyes are....."He stuttered. Aurora looked at her hands, embarrassed."I didn't inherit this from anyone. I just look like this. My eyes are plain weird."She said quietly. Austin put his hand on her shoulder, making Aurora hope her totally red face wasn't noticeable."I was going to say beautiful."He whispered, smiling. She blushed even more, then her face quickly lost color. She winced and clenched her stomach. Aurora was weak extremely in pain. "I'm gonna take you to the clinic. I'll find your teacher and tell her or him."Austin quickly said, bending down to meet her faded eyes."But I can't walk."Aurora said weakly. He shrugged."I'll just carry you."Austin decided. His perfect smile made her heart fly with unexplainable joy.
As he bent down to pick her up, he glanced at her hair. It was dark brown with streaks of blond and black. It looked fully faded."Woah. Your hair is kind of grey."He said. Aurora grimaced. The bell rung. 7th period was over. He grunted as he picked her up. He carried her curled up figure through the hallway. As he passed by, girls smiled and waved at him."Hi Austin!"They said dreamily. Each one glared at Aurora as they saw her face. Austin put her on the bed in the clinic."I feel sick."She told the nurse. "Like you are going to throw up or like the flu?"She asked. Aurora shrugged. The nurse motioned Austin outside the clinic. He nodded and smiled at Aurora."Hope you feel better."He said before exiting. She laid down on the bed and curled up. Austin chuckled and looked through the hallways, making sure nobody was present here. He took out a silver rectangle item with a light purple crystal glowing. Austin pressed his thumb on the glass square below it. The crystal hummed and shot out a beam of light. It turned into a screen. He looked around."Call my father."Austin whispered. A man appeared on the screen, the same features as Austin. Spiky hair but still wavy. Cappuccino eyes that glowed slightly."What is it son?"The man asked."I've found her."Austin said. His father had a shocked look cloaking his face."The hybrid?"He asked. Austin hesitantly nodded, not liking the name he called Aurora."Well, the Elders are going to like this news. We will be waiting for you to return with her in two days time."His father said. Austin nodded obediently. The screen disappeared and the crystal stopped glowing. He quickly snapped his fingers and it disappeared. The nurse looked for him."Hey boy! You should take her home. She looks too sick but I can't find out why."The nurse stated. Austin nodded and took stumbling Aurora in his hands. As they stepped off of campus he stopped at the corner of the street."All right. You might want to sit down if I'm going to explain why you are sick like this."He said seriously. Aurora glanced at him with fear as she sat down, leaning against a tree."No need to be afraid. I've been looking for you for 5 years. My father has been looking for 16."He said. Austin ran his fingers through her hair, she pulled away."Ok, this must go quick. Your brown eye represents your mother's side."He told her calmly. Aurora tilted her head in a confused way."Elves have different shades of brown and sometimes blue."Austin explained."Austin, this isn't making any sense."Aurora looked at her pale fingers."The name isn't mine either. My real name is Tegan."He said, embarrassed. She sighed."And my green eye mister World Of Warcrafts?"Aurora shot."This is real information! Humans really can't teach anything right."He retorted. Tears welled up in her eyes. He groaned."Your green eye is from your father's side, werewolf. But normally they have yellow eyes."Tegan said. So confused by his words, she fainted.
Aurora woke up in her bed, her worrying mother by her side. She laid a hand on her head."Cold as ice."She said worrily. Her older sister walked in."Hey Aurora. Just wondering, who was that cute guy carrying you home?"She asked. Aurora growled."Hey, I'm just saying he's in my range. After all, he is 14."She said. Aurora hated her big sister Till. "Go away. Here, this medium rare always fixes you."Her mother said as she set a plate on the table beside her. Aurora propped herself up with her elbows. She took a big bite of the steak, squeezing the juice mixed with blood out. The blood came rushing back to her face and she sighed with relief. Her mother and sister left her to sleep. As the door shut, she heard a knock on the window behind her bed. She looked back, jumping at the sight of Tegan there. She opened the window and he crawled in. Aurora blushed as she remembered she was still wearing his jacket. "You want this back? Could have asked for it tomorrow. Didn't have to crawl through my window for it. Wow, you must love this jacket."She said. He laughed and ran his fingers through his hair, like it was a habit. He sat on the edge of the bed. He looked slightly worried."What's wrong Tegan?"She asked as she shut the window before a slight breeze set in. Aurora watched as his mouth formed words, but nothing wanted to come out."The reason you were sick was because your wolf side needs animal blood to live. But that doesn't happen until you gain the power to transform."He said, pale."When did you first form your wolf?"He asked. Aurora looked at her hands then at the steak."When I was 4. I started out of nowhere."She answered quietly."My friend changed at the age 8, normal age requirement. You really are as special as the legend says."Tegan said, smiling. Her heart flew with that joy once more for many unknown reasons. "I'm afraid to tell you this though."He suddenly coughed out. Aurora watched his perfect smile fade."You must come to my kingdom at once. We weren't the only ones searching for you. The vampires have been also. Those filthy blood suckers."He said. Her happiness faded along with his smile, dragged down by his tone."But what about my family?"She asked."You are obligated to leave them behind Aurora. I'm afraid so. You have to live in the Elven kingdom until it's the right time."Tegan replied sadly. She choked on her words. "If the vampires find you with them, they will make you watch your so called family suffer then kill you too. They are determined to make sure that US elves don't make the legend come true."Tegan then said.
The young boy pulled out the item from earlier."If I'm half werewolf half elf, then what are you?"She asked."An elf."He easily answered. She giggled as she touched his ears."Well they aren't pointy."She teased. He chuckled and looked at her with a silly look."They don't become like that until you are 18. I'm 14."He said. Tegan smiled as he pressed his thumb to the glass and waited for the crystal to glow."I know. My sister told me your age. Thought you were cute."Aurora said."Not surprised. Human girls easily fall for the charms of elves. Our girls do fall for me though. I don't really understand why."He said, still waiting. Her cheeks turned rosy red as she looked him up and down."What's that?"She asked, gesturing at the item in his hand."It's a Roven. Like your normal iPhones but more complex."Tegan said. The screen finally came up." Call my father."He said. His father came up on the screen. He looked at Tegan, then at Aurora. "Hello young one. Are you the hybrid?"He asked. Aurora nodded slowly."My name's Aurora." She then said, making sure he wouldn't call her a hybrid again."Well, pleasure to meet you. I'm Kelden. I humbly welcome you to our home once you arrive."He replied, smiling Tegan's perfect smile. Her heart didn't fly like it did when Tegan smiled."About that father, we will be there soon."He said. Kelden beamed at the words coming from his son's mouth, proud."Well then, Aurora collect whatever you would like to bring to the Elven kingdom before you leave darling. I'll see you and Tegan very soon."Kelden said, the screen disappearing after. "So what other kingdoms are there besides the Elven kingdom? Obviously there must be others."Aurora said. Tegan rested a hand on her shoulder."You are a curious girl."He teased. She blew a strand of hair from her face and looked at him with a slight serious look. "Werewolf kingdom, Angel kingdom, Shifter kingdom, etcetera... the Dark kingdoms are the ones where you find decent guard hounds."Tegan pulled a collar out of his pocket, burnt at the edges. She chuckled and looked out the window."I don't know what I will bring. I know I will bring my phone though."Aurora said as she pulled the phone from its charger. He smiled and looked around her room."Nothing worthy to bring honestly."He said. Tegan then looked down."Are you sure you can handle moving to our kingdoms?"He asked as he locked his gaze with her. "Yes, I'm perfectly fine I guess."She hesitated."You can live with the fact of knowing that your family will have every single memory containing you will and shall be erased?" Aurora stopped rearranging things. Tears welled up in her eyes. She curled up on the bed and cried. Tegan hugged her reassuringly. Aurora cleaned her face free of tears. Her face was tomato red as Tegan's arms wrapped around her in a hug."Sorry. You were crying so....."He trailed off. She smiled at his compassion."I'll be back tomorrow morning to get you."He said. Tegan crawled out the window and she heard a flash, then a gust of wind blew and she knew he was gone.
Aurora sat in class the next day, wearing vivid colors that contrasted with the colors she was adorned with yesterday. She sketched a picture of Tegan, smiling as she colored his cappuccino eyes that made her heart fly from the single sketch. Aurora ran her finger across his smooth jaw line. The bell rang and she set off through the hallway. Her hair was curly and shiny, like she had just made a trip to the salon this morning. Jaws dropped as she strode with perfection through the very school halls. She grinned as the same girls from yesterday looked at her, eyes flaring with envy. After school, before she could walk four more feet away from the classroom, someone stopped her."Well Aurora. Looks like someone tried their best at looking good today."A voice sneered. She turned to face her gossip bully, Nellie. Despite the name, this 7th grade diva was menacing in every way. She looked like those cheerleader bullies in movies. Blond hair that draped past the shoulders which ended in curls, lip gloss, three to four girls behind her. Wearing the latest style all the time, popular and cute. "Hmm, if you went out of your way to look like that, there must be a guy you are dying to impress. Oh right, you don't have a boyfriend!"She teased aloud. Everyone around burst out laughing, insulting her. Tears went down her cheeks."If you did I would have taken him already. No boy in their right mind would choose you over me."Nellie snarled. Aurora smiled as she heard a familiar slight Australian accent."You don't want to provoke her darling. Never provoke someone like this doll right here."Tegan said as he came up behind her. Nellie flipped her hair and ran her hand down his arm."You sure?"She said, blinking her blue eyes. He growled and shoved her away."Well Aurora, you gonna show them why?"Tegan draped his arm around her and smiled, making her heart fly again."Wait what?"She then said, snapping out of it. He chuckled and ran his fingers through her hair."This is the last time you will ever see them. You might as well leave this she demon who calls herself presentable a message. Don't mess with the smallest people because you don't know what they are capable of."Tegan said. Nellie scoffed and clenched her hands into a fist. Before she could blow a punch, he caught her hand and crushed it a bit. "Aurora, you gonna let your hot bodyguard protect you, or are you gonna do it yourself?"Nellie shot, massaging her pained hand. Tegan and Aurora looked at each other and smiled.
"Go ahead wolfie."Tegan said. Everyone looked confused. Aurora nodded. The elf backed away. She closed her eyes for a while, then she thought one simple word. /Wolf/. She shifted into her wolf form. Tree bark brown fur was her base coat. Her paws had blond markings and her ears were black tipped. On her back, white markings that swirled around, mimicking the wind, reached her shoulders. Both of her eyes were green. Brown specks were within the leafy green eyes. She growled and lunged forward. She stood in front of Nellie's cowered form. Aurora snorted and turned to face the rest. They looked at her in fear. She smiled at them and howled. Tegan jumped on her back, carrying the stuff she was taking with her to the kingdom. A portal opened in front of them."Hurry, no adult can see you. They won't believe these children. My dad will erase the footage from these cameras. He'll leave the part of her bullying you though. To leave the reason you left this world." The she wolf nodded and jumped into the portal. It felt like she was swimming in water. Aurora looked forward, her fur bristled. She finally landed. Her claws clicked as she walked across the sidewalk. Elves stopped to watch the werewolf go through their kingdom. The Elven kingdom was like heaven. Marble everywhere. Open doors revealed glass spiral stairs within a few homes. They wore beautiful clothing, indescribable. The dresses the women wore were silk, the wind blowing against them made them flow like the ocean breeze. The men wore long capes and cloaks, silk material as well. Aurora walked slowly. She noticed their eyes. Many shades of brown, some she never knew about. Blue eyes were scattered among the elven crowds as well. Tegan waved his hand in front of her face. She nipped his finger and picked up the pace. Aurora stopped when he told her so. The home was not like the ones at her old city. It was like a palace. Mansion, castle, ballroom, 100 star rated hotel! "This is my home. The home of the Heldrons."Tegan said. Aurora licked the slobber off her drooling jowls. Kelden opened the golden encrusted gates. Tegan got off of Aurora, wrapping his arms around his tall father's waist. He patted his back and reached a hand towards the she wolf's large head. She hesitantly walked forward and let him rest his hand upon her head. She was still medium sized, but large. As tall as a sapling, Aurora looked down at Tegan. His cappuccino eyes and perfect smile that added up, Aurora almost lost balance as she swayed side to side. Kelden ran to her side, worry fogging up his eyes."Are you sick? Do we need to take you to the healer?"The elf asked. Her ears pricked up, leaf green eyes widening. She, like every other kid, had a major fear in doctors. But she sighed and hung her head as she remembered she was never a human being. She was a hybrid the entire time.
Tegan watched as his father led the wolf into the house. Aurora felt clumsy, being a large wolf lumbering through their household. She heard two more voices. A slightly deeper than Tegan's voice and a soothing feminine voice. "My mother is in the other room with my year older brother. She is a water bender, and cryocreator. So don't make her mad. My brother, Calvin, can wind bend. Bending the elements runs in the family basically. Father is an earth bender."Tegan said. Aurora chuckled, not exactly wanting to mention the fact that she could bend them all. He ran his fingers through his perfect hair and flashed her a cocky grin."I'm the talented fire bender. I have two talents. That and TimeTraveler."Tegan bragged. She almost burst out laughing, or in her case snuffling because she was still wolf. She could do many things he couldn't yet he had time to find out. "Go upstairs. There is a room with clothes waiting for you. We'll be waiting for you."Kelden motioned the wolf up. Aurora stumbled on the stairs. Before actually getting past a stair, she heard a scream that stopped midway. She slid back down with an annoyed groan. She looked back. A more breath taking boy stood there, staring in awe at Aurora. He had dirty blond hair. Straight and wavy. As Tegan said, a year older so 15 years of age. Aurora knew this was supposedly Calvin, Tegan's brother. Her eyes locked with his, adding more wood to the fire ignited in her heart. This family had children who could smile once and make everything female faint. She fainted as so, losing the lock.
"Hey Tegan. You never told me your girlfriend was a hot werewolf."She heard a voice say. That voice had British in it, not a hint of Aussie. "Shut up Calvin. This is Aurora, the hybrid in the legends."Tegan growled, a hint of embarrassment in his Aussie accented voice. Aurora opened her eyes. She was no longer wolf. It seemed like when she lost consciousness, she shifted back. That stays in my vault. She walked around and looked for a mirror. She finally found one and gasped. Her hair was in curls, like earlier. She was wearing a green dress with brown leaves on it. Aurora snapped her fingers like it was an instinct and the colors were vice versa. She was shocked even more. Aurora returned, looking stiff. Calvin and Tegan's jaws dropped. "How did you switch the colors?"Tegan asked. She shrugged. "Ok werewolf hottie. Sit down and explain us your talents. All of them!"Calvin pointed at the seat beside him. Aurora blushed, his smile making her dizzy. "That is sexual harassment! I've only know you for two minutes and you are already calling me hot!"She exclaimed, covering her eyes. Calvin sighed."Sorry. It just annoys me that Tegan gets them all and I get nothing."He apologized in the weirdest way. She could read his mind also, another hidden talent."You are thinking that you wish I was old enough to get in that bed upstairs."She gasped. Tegan watched as Calvin almost had a heart attack. Aurora thought Calvin would have preferred having a heart attack. She watched as Tegan tackled his brother to the floor. Kelden pulled them apart and took several deep breaths before looking at his older son."Calvin! You apologize for your vulgar thoughts this instant. That is not how elves are raised. You are restricted from watching human movies until you are 49."Kelden scolded. Tegan watched as Aurora shakily sat down, perturbed by Calvin's thoughts."So you are a telepathy elf?"Tegan asked, draping an arm around her. "I got lots of elfish talents."She replied, laughing with a hint of shaken feelings. "Elven." "Whatever!" Calvin kneeled in front of Aurora."Why does he look like he is going to propose?"She whispered to Tegan. His face turned fire truck red."I wouldn't let my brother marry you without my approval. I would obviously say no. This is the elf gesture for asking for forgiveness. An old one though."He said. She chuckled nervously. She looked at his hand."Kiss it! That's how you show forgiveness old fashioned way. Now we ask verbally."He said. She knew she was redder than his retreating blush. Aurora cupped her hands slightly around Calvin's and kissed his hand."Soft lips on the legend's face. Perfect to love another."He said, as if reciting a line from a poem. She giggled. A woman walked in. She had a blue dress on, embroidered at each edge with a light purple crystal. Around her waist was a red ribbon tied from the back like in China. "Ah. Aurora, this is my wife Lilac."Kelden said as he stood up. He hugged her and she smiled. Lilac looked at Aurora."Much potential in this one. Many talents." Calvin smiled."Right. I can bend all four elements, telepathic, telekinesis, cryocreator."Aurora said. "Earlier, she switched the colors on her dress."Tegan said."Yes, that my lovely child is a Reversetor. Extremely rare. As is a main elemental bender. No wonder she is the hybrid."Lilac ran her delicate fingers through her silky black hair. "Get settled in your room. You will be living with us until we can locate your parents."Kelden said. Calvin got up and led her to the room.
"Sorry about my thoughts. Hope we can start as normal friends."He said quietly as she opened the door. Aurora smiled and hugged him, showing her way of forgiveness. She closed the door. As she walked to the bed, her eyes caught a note on the wall. It read-
" Tommorow you shall be tested for school approval. Be prepared. Wish you best of luck- K"
Aurora stopped smiling. You had to take a test to go to school? She thought it was like a public school. She groaned and fell on the bed. Meeting the Elders would be nice, but trying to impress them was going to be an obvious challenge. She sighed and curled up on the bed, falling asleep.
