Chapter 4

"You're lucky indeed."Kenley said as Aurora came back from speaking with Tegan and Sorgo. She looked at the werewolf in confusion, tilting her large head. "Why?" Kenley laughed, like she expected Aurora to know what she meant."You get to hang out with the cute guys! Like Tegan and Sorgo. Belven too." Aurora chuckled."I didn't find them, they found me. Tegan posed as a new student in my old school, Sorgo sneaked his way into the room I was changing in. And Belven was there to approve of my application for NorthWind."She explained. "Sorgo really makes me feel like I don't have a tail to help me balance. His cute scraggy hair, his wonderful emerald green eyes. And his adorable Irish accent!"Kenley squealed. Sorgo passed by and flashed a white smile at them both. But his eyes mostly focused on Aurora. Kenley squealed again and fainted. The she wolf smiled and padded over to Belven."Are you sure Sorgo imprinted on me?"She asked. He nodded quickly."It is kind of like a love imprint. When a male imprints on a female of a different species such as you and Sorgo, it's more of a love imprint than a protective imprint." Aurora staggered as she tried to get closer to Belven."So what you are saying is he already loves me?"She asked, stuttering. Belven's face turned red and he ran his fingers through his hair as he nodded slowly."When he met you, he felt a special spark." She gritted her teeth and looked at her paws."That happened to me when I met Tegan. And Calvin at first but water just cooled that one down a bit. I got that spark with all of you."She said quietly. His face turned redder. "Well then, it's almost time to go to our last class. Go get ready."He said in a shaky voice. He seemed startled by this conversation. After all who wouldn't. "Sorgo would most fit for you. You two are the same age. I'm four years older than you. But who knows? That remains unknown until the end of the year." He added."What do you mean Belven?"She asked. Aurora seemed wary when he said it would remain unknown. He said those words with the little hope he had left."At the end of the school year, the even numbered Layers get tested on perfect matches. The result is based on how you both feel towards each other."He explained. So me and Tegan, she thought. No, never."Right now I could infer so far that you and Sorgo would be perfect." She scoffed a little."Oren would say otherwise. He would be like,'You deserve better than that rebellious little runt! Why not Tegan?' After all, his best friend's son found me in the first place."She argued. Aurora flicked her tail and nudged Kenley. Every girl who trotted past Sorgo would brush their tails under his chin, wolf way of flirting. He wasn't exactly fazed. He looked at Aurora. She chuckled and licked his cheek again."I'm not like everyone else Sorgo."She howled as she entered the locker room. He giggled and went to the boy's locker room.

"I'm surprised he doesn't mind you kissing him like that."Kenley said. Aurora blushed."That's because he love imprinted on me." Kenley's jaw dropped. Chatter paused in the locker room. She chuckled nervously. They shifted back and put on their uniforms. The bell rang. Everyone dashed out of the locker room."I've got Chemistry next."Kenley said. Sorgo ran over, staring at Aurora's schedule."You've got Chemistry too? Awesome!"He said. Norin chuckled."A good looking werewolf like Sorgo here better watch out for Chemistry. Missus Haven develops crushes on her students, just like Mister Toredor. Watch out for werewolf teachers, I'm afraid they'll get you Sorgo." Aurora laughed."How do you know so much about these teachers?" He flashed a cocky smile."I failed a few times. So I kind of have a good idea on every teacher's personalities. Now go you silly children, go." Sorgo narrowed his eyes."Remember when I said awesome? Yeah, let's just direct that to you being in the same class as me again." Kenley and Aurora burst out laughing. Sorgo smiled and ran his fingers through his scraggy hair."We're here. The classroom of doom."He joked. They laughed again, walking into the classroom. Kenley tried to sit next to Sorgo but he almost never noticed her and sat by Aurora again."Hello class! I'm going to call roll now. If you are extremely quiet, you will all go home with a good tasting human cupcake!"The teacher said. She began calling out names. Are human cupcakes often eaten here? Sorgo jumped a bit at the message, enough for Missus Haven to not take notice. He nodded.Do you get it from the merchant? Kelden told me that werewolves hunt to trade with the merchant. He nodded quickly. "Aurora Karrier."Aurora raised her hand."Ahh, the hybrid."Missus Haven said, a slight hiss to it. She cast a glance at her roll, her golden eyes searching the room."Sorgo Lavlven." Sorgo raised his hand slightly, embarrassed by his last name. Missus Haven's cheeks flushed. Sorgo slapped his forehead and groaned."Looks like she has a crush on you!"Aurora teased. Sorgo glared at her and laid his head on the desk. She giggled and hugged his slouched form."It's ok. I'll protect you! Even if it makes her hate me." Sorgo smiled a little. Missus Haven growled a little then took out tubes. She set them on every desk. Sorgo slipped it into the little hole that held the tubes. "Two liquids lay in beakers in front of you. One contains nitrodide and the other has coldreden. Read the instructions, then conduct the experiment. You will know you have done it correctly when the solution turns a deep magenta."

Aurora giggled as Sorgo put her safety goggles on. "Now, slowly pour half of the nitrodide into the tube. As slow as a wolf hunting moose." She poured the slimy blue liquid into the tube. The instructions said after pouring in a third of the coldreden, you must heat it up."Okay. I must be careful pouring this in. Sorgo, promise you won't touch my arm at all." He crossed his heart and smiled. Aurora searched his face for seriousness. She delicately poured in the thick neon purple liquid. She held her hand under the tube. A small flame had lighted in her palm. It wrapped itself around the bottom of the tube. The solution changed colors, as well as fragrances. It smelled like oranges and a Hawaiian flower. Like sweet grass in a sunlit meadow. Like the ocean breeze on a hot summer day. It turned magenta. The flame extinguished quickly, Aurora not wanting to overdo it. "That smells like heaven! Dear me you deserve an A. I meant we."Sorgo exclaimed. She laughed as his arms wrapped around her. Missus Haven came over, smiling sweetly at Sorgo while paying no mind to Aurora. She wrote on a piece of paper and handed it to them."Our grade." Aurora looked under her name."100%! Score." Sorgo muttered."120%...." Aurora giggled as Sorgo stared at the teacher, who was waving at him with a smile."Extra credit for being cute!"She teased. He chuckled and shoved her playfully. "Easy for you to say Miss Kissy." Aurora twisted her hair with her finger, blushing. "Now class, if you have done this correctly them you should have come out with a perfume. You get to keep these."Missus Haven announced. Sorgo corked the tube and blushed as he handed it to Aurora."You are a girl so..... and my only sister died." She smiled and poked his side."Thank you. I don't know what you would have done with it anyways." Aurora looked at Kenley, who smelled of hate and love.Hate for me and love for him? That's just wrong. Kenley smiled, her mood changing to upbeat. "Lets see, I would have poured it on Tegan, make him smell like a girl for two weeks."Sorgo said, grinning. She poked him again and giggled. The bell rung."To home we must go!"Sorgo yelled. Everyone poured out of their classrooms. Sorgo stopped Aurora before she got to the doors."Wait for me. I have to change so we can get home quickly."He said. She nodded, leaning on the wall next to the boy's bathroom. Belven walked over."You want a portal home? Oren and Ylves are out hunting a herd of moose so they won't be home for a few hours. They messaged me." Aurora shook her head. "Wait, werewolves can message too?" He nodded."Werewolves have talents as well. But they differ from ours. The only one we share is telepathy." Sorgo padded out of the bathroom. He glared at Belven, flashing his fangs a bit. Belven glared back at him. He snorted and shook his ebony colored fur.

Aurora hugged his neck, suddenly having a burst of positive energy. She decided to hug it out since the feeling tried to compell her into kissing him. "Why are you hugging my neck?"He asked, choking a bit. She let go."Mood swing." He sighed and wagged his tail."I can't wait for the dance! It is special because we have it on the 6th Layer, the sky floor. It's not really a grade but it is still a layer. The Aurora Borealis is going to appear! The human scientific name for Northern Lights."He barked. Aurora blushed."I was named after the Northern Lights." He smiled."The werewolf scientific name for it is the Pathway to Lupus. Lupus is an all around known god. For wolves at least." She tugged his ears and he shook his head. He let her off at the den."I better leave quickly. I smell Oren. He's near. Your guardian doesn't like me. That's why I said when you first arrived you will love Ylves. Underline, highlight, bold, italics, the name Ylves! YLVES! Only Ylves likes me, Oren despises me." Sorgo said quickly. He looked back and forth, then dashed off into the woods. Oren came padding into the den. Aurora undressed behind the boar skin. She shifted into her wolf and nuzzled Oren. Ylves just smiled, still trying to adjust to the new child. Oren had a twisted look on his face."Was Sorgo just here? His scent is recent and my ears picked up his voice."He growled. Aurora slightly tucked her tail between her legs."Yes." Then she stood straight and tall."What do you have against him?" Oren snarled her back down."He is an idiotic rebellious wolf and I don't want it rubbing off on you. I've never liked him for that personality the entire time anyways."He snarled loudly. Aurora met his eyes with her piercing leaf green eyes, which were darkening. Black hate cloaked her mind again, her conscious blind. She snarled, her tail and legs being wrapped in black ribbons which smelled of decay. Her eyes pierced through his soul. Oren began to whimper, his pupils shrinking and his dandelion yellow taking over a bit. He cringed on the floor, howling in pain. The howls were tiny at first. Wind blew through the den, a storm brewing. Lightning struck in front of the den. Aurora's seemingly possessed body tensed. Her teeth gritted as she cringed in pain as well. Oren's cries and howls increased in volume. The highest pitch brought her back. She fell to the cold stone floor of the den. Oren quickly crawled into a dark corner of the den, traumatized. Ylves had the same look of horror on her face. Her tail drooped as she watched Oren mutter to himself. She padded over, licking his cheek and whispering it was alright. Sorgo burst into the den."What happened? I came as soon as I heard the pained howls."

Aurora gulped, looking only at her paws as if they were the only things in the universe."I'm going to ask again. What happened here?" Sorgo stared intently at her cowered form."I-don't -r-really-kkk-know. It was all just a blur and..."She began to stutter. Ylves turned around. The words poured out, each one as cold and sharp as an icicle."This is what happened. She was possessed by her black hate and cold fury. You can't do that when you can do telekinesis Aurora. You can cause great damage to someone. He's just traumatized right now. He'll be fine soon Sorgo." Ylves said the description as if it were as bitter as coffee. Aurora nodded and fiddled with her tail, brushing it with her claws as she would have done to her hair with her nails in human form."We need to take you to the healer now."Sorgo urged. Aurora's body tensed, her worries wiped away by fear."No. Not the kind that uses syringes and does vaccines and you can see blood on the tip of the needle." Aurora frowned."Those words all mean that this healer doesn't use needles at all. Why don't you just say that?"She screamed, stroking her tail faster now. Sorgo chuckled." You're afraid. Don't worry, Belendize will take good care of you. A shifter like her who's traveled many places has many remedies." She curled up, still stroking her tail. Sorgo laughed and slid himself as far as he could under her body. He picked her up and trotted to a small building next to the school. It read,"Healer's Office" in multiple languages. He tried to push the door open. Sorgo failed and tried scratching at the door. He noticed a button that said,"For werewolves". He grunted and pushed it with his snout. The door opened and he grunted again. He trotted in, looking around for the healer."Belendize! Hellooooo!! You've got a patient who needs urgent assistance."He howled. A young woman came up to him. She was about 18 years old. Her wavy blond hair curled at the ends which draped way past her shoulders and reached her waist. Her violet eyes glowed as she examined Aurora."I don't see anything wrong with this one, Sorgo."She said, a high pitched African accent embroidered the words. She seemed like a voodoo doctor. Her office walls were soaked with brown. African masks everywhere on shelves, potions hanging from the roof. Chests in corners of the room, a large pot in the middle. A bed laid a few feet away from the pot, where the only technology was located. A lamp was the only source of light in the office that used electricity to power it. The rest were torches or lanterns."There is something wrong mentally. I know you can help."He replied. She slowly nodded and lifted Aurora off of Sorgo's back with amazing strength. She placed the she wolf on the bed, Sorgo sitting by her. Belendize turned around with a bottle full of a light green substance. She paused, looking at Sorgo, then Aurora."Ahh, I see. The mood I sense coming from you Sorgo is love and protect. You've imprinted on this one." He blushed. He looked off into the distance."And you, young one. I sense fear and curiosity." She cleared her throat, the accent no longer high pitched.

Aurora glared at the bottle as it approached her. She pulled away, not wanting it to touch her lips."This will help you with any problems in your body internally, externally, emotionally, and mentally. So you need not to fear this remedy of mine."She assured. Aurora glanced up, Belendize's warm look and violet eyes. The she wolf let her pour it down. Her tongue yanked itself back at the interaction with the cold substance. It laid back down, the remedy acting fast as it soothed her. She laid down, whining. Sorgo looked at Belendize."You got anything that will make my food taste like bacon?"He asked. The healer chuckled and shook her head."Remedies and potions are used for medical reasons. You need a spell from the sorcerer. I don't handle things like that you silly werewolf." Aurora fell into a deep sleep, so relaxed the remedy worked as a sedative as well. The breeze blew through her fur. The waves threw themselves forward onto the sandy shore, then pulled themselves back. Palm trees swayed with the wind, calm and cool on the beach side. A soothing fragrance like apples drifted on the breeze as well. Her body tensed. Lightning struck in front of her. A man with red eyes appeared."We're coming for you." The words as cold as ice. A chill ran down her spine and she jolted awake. She shivered, her fur bristled. Sorgo ran over and curled around her ball form. He licked her head."It's ok, you're with me now. I'm not going to let anyone get you."He whispered softly. She nodded slowly, licking his cheek. She was frightened. The man's words replayed through her mind like a broken record. The words were as cold as ice, as chilling as the snow, as dark as the bottom of the ocean. "We're coming for you." She muttered. "Who is?"He asked, urgency in his voice as his ears pinned. "A tall man in my dream, he interrupted it. It was calm and soothing until he showed up! He had black hair, red eyes. His skin was really pale as if....."She trailed off. Belendize bent down next to the two wolves."As if what? You must tell me child." Her clear African accent shaken. The words slipped off her tongue like a glass cup slipping off a table, shattering with cold and dark silence following."As if he were dead."
