This story has 20-25 chapters left! :( ********

"I'm so proud of you Genevieve." Remy praised Gen, who sat in the large tub, arms wrapped around her chest as she waited for Remy to join her.

"Remy, you don't always have to compliment me. You know that right?" Genevieve explained shyly, her eyes looking anywhere other than her naked mate.

Remy's lips twitched upwards as he moved closer towards the tub. "I know, but I like complimenting you ...  and secretly I think you like it too." He whispered the last part in her ear,  afterwards joining her in the tub.

The two sat in the large tub facing each other. Genevieve sat on the left end with her legs pulled up to her chest and her chin resting on the top of her knees. Her eyes were focused on Remy, a shy smile on her face.

Remy sat on the opposite side of the tub, his long legs stretched out and encasing Genevieve's smaller form. His arms were propped on the edges of the tub, fingers dangling in the warm bubble bath water. Remy continued to watch his mate, his eyes portraying nothing but real happiness.

"Tomorrow's your birthday." Genevieve smiled, absentmindedly covering her chest with bubbles.

"I know. Is there something special you want to do?" Remy asked, reaching for his mate to come closer.

Genevieve moved around so she could sit in between Remy's legs, her back against his chest. "It's your birthday. You have to decide."

Wrapping his arms around Genevieve, he chuckled. " I don't usually celebrate my birthday so it wouldn't matter to me."

Genevieve looked up at Remy from over her shoulder. "Really? My dads celebrate theirs, even with the werewolf gene and all."

"Werewolves age faster than vampires, so it's understandable. But if you have a life span that's larger than 500 years, you don't celebrate each and every one."

Genevieve nodded slowly, her smile dropping. "Would you want me to go through the change?"

Remy tilted her head more towards him. He kissed her softly. "No, not unless you are seconds from dying."

Relief settled in Genevieve. "So you would want me to stay human, unless it came down to death?"

"Of course. " Remy assured his mate. "That's what you want too, right?"

"Yeah, I was just making sure we're on the same page. We never really talk about the future." Genevieve registered.

"Do you want to talk about the future?" Chuckled Remy, afterwards kissing her shoulder and up to her neck.

"I wouldn't mind. It's never bad to know what your partner expects in life." Gen whispered as she tilted her head to the side, granting Remy more access to her neck.

Remy hummed against her neck, the small vibrations giving Genevieve goose bumps. "What do you want to know?"

Genevieve thought about it. She wasn't really sure what she would ask Remy. Her original plan in life was to be happy; have a job that makes her happy, have a caring husband, maybe a few kids and overall just to be happy. Now that she was with Remy, she didn't know if he would want to get married or if he would just prefer the invisible bond between mates. Did he want kids and if so, how many? Boy or girl? Did he expect her to stay at home with said children or hire a nanny?

"Where do you see yourself in ten years?"

Remy didn't even have to think hard about his answer. "With you and our beautiful children in our big house, happy as ever."

Genevieve smiled, looking up at her grinning mate. "Really? You'd want us to have multiple children?"

Remy nodded, intertwining their fingers. "Yeah. We'd adopt two little boys and our little girl, who would be a few years younger than the twins."

Genevieve's heart fell to her stomach. "Why adoption? I ... I thought-"

Remy hugged his mate tighter to him, placing a kiss on her cheek. "Genevieve, I want children with you. I really do. I'd give you all the children you wanted, if I could. I just don't see myself putting your life in danger and that of our children."

"A pregnancy isn't putting me in danger Remy!" Genevieve raised her voice slightly, pushing his hands off of her.

Remy didn't try to hold her back. He knew if he did, he could possibly hurt her with his strength and that was not something he wanted to do again. "You're human Genevieve. I can't expect you to carry my children in you for seven months . You wouldn't be strong enough to go through the whole pregnancy."

Genevieve stepped out of the tub, pulled a towel from the rack and covered herself. "I'm your mate Remy. I think I'm capable of carrying our children in my womb."

Remy looked away from his mate, who was close to tears. "It's too dangerous Genevieve." Remy began, while stepping out of the tub too. "Caroline almost died giving birth to me. She only survived because of the royal blood running through her veins."

Genevieve couldn't tell if she was overreacting but everything Remy was telling her, was spiking her irritation. "Caroline was barely a teenager, her body wasn't fully developed and ready to be giving birth!"

Remy resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose. He needed to stay calm and collected. "Genevieve, there is always adoption. You don't have to give up on having children. They will be ours, even if it's through adopting."

"I don't freaking care about adoption! I want to know why you don't want me giving birth to our children. Are you scared I'm going to get fatter? Do you not want the kids to have similar looks & traits as us? Tell me the real reason!" Genevieve felt her chest tighten as she glared at Remy. Her emotions were too much, it was overwhelming her and she couldn't think straight.

Remy had never seen Genevieve like this. He wasn't sure how to react to her accusations. "Genevieve, you need to calm down. You're not understanding what I'm trying to tell you."

"Don't tell me to calm down." Genevieve pulled the towel tighter around her body.

"I think it's best if we drop the conversation for now. It's not like we're planning to have kids next week." Remy tried to lighten the mood, but Genevieve didn't seem to notice.

Remy stepped closer to Genevieve, and despite their mate bond Genevieve denied his touch. She walked over to the other side of the bathroom, her eyes burning with tears.

Remy was surprised by her actions and a little hurt. He didn't see anything wrong with them adopting. But truly he didn't think this was about the adoption either. He wasn't quite sure exactly what was causing Genevieve to think like this, but it was useless at the moment to try and  get her to see reason.

Remy glanced at Genevieve once again. He could feel her emotions bubbling up within her over their mate bond. "I'm going to go for a walk. Just call me when you've calmed down. I love you, Genevieve."

With that Remy walked out of the bathroom, a frown on his face when he didn't get a response from Gen.

Genevieve looked at her reflection in the mirror. She leaned over the sink, a few tears falling from her chin. She hadn't meant to upset Remy and drive him away. She didn't even mean to ruin the evening but she just ....

After pulling on a shirt from Remy and her underwear, Genevieve walked downstairs. Maybe Remy hadn't left, maybe he was just in the living room. Genevieve searched the whole house for her mate, but he had actually left, just like he said he would.

Genevieve realized it was pretty late, & it had been awhile since she was in the bathroom. Genevieve stopped in the kitchen and glanced out the window. It was dark and Remy still hadn't come back home.

Gen got her phone and was ready to call Remy, to tell him to come back home, to tell him she was sorry for overreacting. She noticed that she had two missed calls and one message; all were from Remy. She went up to their bedroom and read the text message first.

I'll be staying over at Caroline's & Julian's for the night. I'm not mad at you. Call me and we'll talk. -xx

Genevieve read the short message a few more times. She was scared of calling Remy. They were doing so good and then she messed it up by bringing up the conversation about children.

She still couldn't fully understand why Remy didn't want her having their children. If she was made for Remy, wouldn't her body be able to carry his children? It just didn't make sense to Genevieve.

She didn't see anything wrong with adoption. Hell, she was adopted herself and her dads were the best in raising her. It wasn't about Gen, not wanting to adopt. It was about the reasons Remy didn't want her getting pregnant. She just didn't understand. And how was she supposed to talk to Remy about it, when he couldn't give her what she felt to be the  truth?

Genevieve read the message one more time, before laying down in the large bed. She covered herself with the blanket and closed her eyes.

Remy laid on the queen sized bed in Julian's guest room.  His phone laid beside him on the bed, as he waited for Genevieve to call. Remy looked up at the white ceiling, a nasty feeling settling over him.

It was a little after midnight and Genevieve had yet to call him. Was she OK? Had she calmed down? Remy knew she wasn't sleeping, he could feel it through their mate bond.

When Caroline asked him why he wasn't at home with his mate, he told her the reason why. Caroline had simply nodded and told him he had done the right thing. Genevieve was in no condition to carry a child from Remy. Her body just wasn't strong enough to carry a small hybrid baby.

Remy could feel the guilt slowly arise within his body. It was his fault, his mate was unhappy. It was his fault Genevieve couldn't give birth to any of their future children. He thought of possible ways she could give to birth to at least one of their future children, but it just didn't seem doable. Remy wasn't going to lose Genevieve when they still had the option to adopt.

Remy glanced at the time once again, his frown deepening.

Happy birthday to me, he thought to himself frustrated.

So I'll start off by saying I'm so sorry for offending a lot of people in the last chapter. I never intended to hurt so many people with that afro-textured hair comment. I didn't even realize how offending and rude it was, until a lot of you notified me about it in the comments. I'm truly sorry! It wasn't even meant to be hurtful or anything for that matter.

Many readers have said that this story isn't about Remy & Genevieve anymore, but instead about 'hating on black people &  African features'. That's definitely not true! I've never made any racial slurs. (Saying you like your hair & mentioning that it isn't your typical afro-textured hair, is not a racial slur!)  Or that Genevieve is only self conscious because she is black. WTF?! Genevieve has insecurities about her weight & not her skin color! Never has she said something about her skin color. ()ノ彡┻━┻

Yeah Race isn't the main subject in this story but not every interracial story has to face race problems.  There are a few reminders in previous chapters that this story is about an interracial couple, but only  because it has an interracial couple as the MC's!

If you don't agree with the things I just pointed out, then tell me why. I'm not a mean person & I won't block you or delete your comment like a user has claimed.

*************

Anyways I hope you enjoyed the chapter and the early update! I think a lot of you were expecting something sexual to happen in the bathtub scene, but I wasn't in the right state of mind to write a 'powerful & sexy' scene like that.

A huge shout-out to  the lovely @MarilynEdmond!! Her work is truly amazing! Definitely go check that out. She has more than one story and a lot of them are completed. She writes fanfiction although it's not cliché and not your typical fanfiction plot! I started reading 'Inhaling Alongside You' & it's really amazing!!!
