Chapter 3

"How's your shoulder?" Tracy asked.

"Sore but I'll be alright" Ruby said.

"Don't push yourself today okay?" Dylan said. Ruby nodded. Ruby was getting ready for school and was currently eating her breakfast until Ace came downstairs tiredly. Yawning and wiping his eyes.

"Morning Ace" Tracy said.

"Good morning mum" Ace said squinting. Ace forgot to put his glasses on and stepped on a piece of glass. Ace grabbed his foot in pain and started crying.

"Shit we didn't finish with the glass" Tracy said running to Ace. Ruby got some bandages and got his glasses in the process.

"Okay stay still Ace" Ruby said. Ace did and she could smell his blood. It smelled a lot different to other blood she's come across and she panted a little but bandaged up Ace's foot. She placed Ace'a glasses on Ace's face.

"There all done. Remember to put your glasses on Ace" Ruby said. Ace sniffles and nodded smiling a little.

"Thank you Ruby" Ace said.

"No problem!" Ruby said giving a wide smile. Ace looked at his mother.

"Why is there sharp object on the ground?" Ace asked.

"Someone broke in last night and we are still cleaning the place up I apologise" Tracy said.

"Broke in? I-I didn't hear anything" Ace said. Dylan, Tracy and Ruby all blinked in confusion. They all saw what had happened last night yet Ace seemed to not remember what had happened. As if he wasn't aware of what happened and what he did. Dylan cleared his throat.

"It's probably best that you didn't Ace. Don't worry everything will be fine just be careful where you step" Dylan said.

"Okay dad" Ace said.

"Now who's ready to go to school?" Dylan asked picking Ace up from Tracy's arms.

"Me!" Ace said. Dylan laughed.

"That's right little man! Let's go get you ready!" Dylan said.

"Okay" Ace giggled. Dylan took Ace upstairs to get him ready to take to preschool. Tracy sighed.

"I know you two were arguing last night..." Ruby suddenly said. Tracy looked at Ruby standing up.

"Yeah. Sorry about that. He was just convinced that I had cheated on him and that's how Ace is a demon but he clearly forgot how long it took him to grow the balls to even ask me out years ago, and the fact that I was and still am hard to impress" Tracy said doing the dishes.

"Despite the many rejections he never gave up didn't he?" Ruby asked. Tracy shook her head.

"Nope. He was annoying at first but he grew on me and then I fell for him. Despite the many men who flirted with me in my highschool years I was never interested until he came around and basically made me change my mind. It was also because I was let's just say the nerd in school who didn't take anyone's shit. I was the scariest girl in school" Tracy said.

"I bet. By the way did you notice how it seemed that Ace didn't remember what happened last night?" Ruby asked.

"Yeah it was a little strange because his memory is pretty good" Tracy said.

"Yeah he doesn't remember what he did and what he actually is" Ruby said.

"Look. I don't care if he's a demon or vampire. He's still my son, my own flesh and blood and I'll protect him at all costs" Tracy said sounding serious.

"Me too. He's still my little brother even if he is different" Ruby said.

"Anyways you should probably get going. You're going to be late" Tracy said. Ruby nodded.

"I'll see you later mum" Ruby said.

"Yeah. Have fun" Tracy said. Ruby headed out to school and Dylan dropped Ace off to preschool.

*Time skip*
"Man why do we have so much homework today?" Bailey asked.

"I don't know. But we should be thankful this year is almost over. Highschool is just around the corner" Ruby said.

"Yeah I'm a little worried about next year..." Bailey said.

"Why?" Ruby asked.

"Well I'm just afraid it'll be like primary school again. With the bullying and being left out and all that" Bailey said.

"It'll be okay Bailey I'll be here for you" Ruby said.

"That's because your the only friend I have. Everyone likes you because your nice and you fit in. I don't and I'm a ghoul and not a lot of people like ghouls" Bailey said.

"Don't listen to them Bailey. I can easily show them that I can be scary and mean when I need to be" Ruby said.

"You're saying you would stick up for me?" Bailey questioned.

"Without a doubt! Your my best friend" Ruby said. Bailey blushed.

"I-I appreciate that Ruby" Bailey said.

"No problem!" Ruby said smiling but rubbing her shoulder. Bailey noticed this and questioned Ruby about it. Ruby explained that someone broke into her house last night and shot her trying to take Ace away but they dealt with it and Ace is okay.

"Oh man. I'm glad he's okay are you though?" Bailey asked.

"I will be don't worry it just hurts a little" Ruby said. Bailey nodded they soon reached Ruby's house and they parted ways.

"I should sleep over sometime" Bailey said.

"Yeah you should. I'll ask mum" Ruby said.

"Okay then. See you tomorrow Ruby" Bailey said.

"Yeah see ya!" Ruby said waving. Ruby entered her house and immediately went to the bathroom to check her wound. She cleaned it and bandaged it back up. She went out to see if her mum was home and she was.

"Hey mum. Can Bailey sleep over this weekend?" Ruby asked.

"Sure honey" Tracy said typing stuff on her computer.

"Okay thanks mum" Ruby said. Ruby went up to Ace's room and checked on him and saw that he was napping. She went to her room and realised that she could still remember the smell of Ace's blood and it was causing her hunger to stir up.

She panted and sat on her bed curling into a ball. She was like this for several minutes until she made a decision. If this is going to help control my hunger for Ace's blood then so be it! It'll hurt a little though... She looked at her wrist and examined her blood flowing through it. Her eyes glowed red and she bared her fangs, sinking her teeth into her own arm as she drank her own blood.
