The Hurt Hunter
James Lake Jr. was your ordinary 16-year-old. He went to high school, he had a crush on a girl, and he fought trolls. (What... that's totally ordinary!) During these fights he would sometimes get kind of beat up. It usually wouldn't be anything too bad: bruise, couple of scrapes, maybe a sprained ankle that's about it. But other times it would be more serious. Sometimes he would get a cut that required stitches.
With his mom being a doctor, Jim knew that he couldn't go to the hospital. And he didn't want to tell Clair and Toby. They would both just freak out with worry and probably make him go to the hospital anyway. He could always tell Blinky or Argh. They wouldn't make him go to the hospital, but they would freak out and inevitably the rest of Troll Market would know within the hour. It was because of this that Jim never told them about his injuries. He didn't want them to worry.
It went on this way for a while. Jim would sometimes patrol the neighborhood before he went to bed and he would get into a fight. He'd get tossed around a bit, but he would always beat the creature in the end. He would then go home to asses the damage. Having a doctor as a mom really helped as he read her medical books to teach himself how to administer stitches. He'd gotten pretty good at it, and since he always wore a jacket his mom and friends never found out. That is, until he was injured to an extent he could not repair on his own.
Jim had been wandering the woods searching for any stray trolls when he heard footsteps behind him. He spun around and a troll he didn't recognize lunged at him. Their battle was fierce, but Jim eventually won in the end. Although it came at the price of him being severely injured.
When the troll attacked him, he didn't have his armor on yet, so he had a stab wound in his side. That was what he was most concerned with. One look at it when he got back to his room he instantly knew that he wouldn't be able to stitch it up himself. He usually could ignore the pain of the needle, but with a wound this large he knew that his hands would shake too much.
He sighed thinking over his options. There was only one that wouldn't end up with him going to the hospital or him telling his mom. Jim sighed, "This isn't going to be fun..."
~time skip~
"Blinky?"
The blue troll looked up in surprise "Master Jim! What brings you to Troll Market at this hour?"
"I-I need your help..." he said weakly.
Blinky stood up from his work table, "Jim is there something wrong? You don't look like you feel well..."
Jim tried to walk towards him, but he stumbled and ran into a table. Blinky steadied him and that's when he noticed the blood seeping through his shirt. "Master Jim! You are injured! You must go to a hospital!"
"No..." he shook his head "If I go there, my mom will find out I'm the Trollhunter. All I need is for you to give me stitches..."
"What?!" Blinky yelled "I have never performed stitches before!"
"It's okay." Jim tried to calm him down "I've done it loads of times. I can talk you through it."
This seemed to calm him down a bit until something dawned on him. "Who have you been performing these stitches on?"
Jim sighed in defeat "Look, can we patch me up first? Then I promise I will tell you everything."
Blinky didn't like it, but he agreed to help him. Blinky went off to get the proper supplies while Jim removed his shirt and jacket. "Master Jim I have..." he saw Jim sitting on the table with blood covering his chest. He then noticed the countless other scars that littered his body. "Oh, Master Jim... why did you never tell us?"
He looked down at the floor "I didn't want you to worry about me... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have withheld the truth..."
Blinky placed a hand on Jim's cheek "Jim, no matter what you do, you are always going to worry me. You have... well... you have grown on me over these last few months. I have grown to care for you greatly. If something were to ever happen to you, well I don't know what I would do. You've become something like a son to me Jim, I want to help you when you get hurt."
Blinky wiped a tear from Jim's face. "Thank you Blinky..." he then wrapped him in a hug. A second later he winced from his wound.
Blinky got to work on stitching him up with Jim's guidance. After this Jim promised to come straight to Blinky or one of his other friends as soon as he was injured. They had all become a sort of family and they didn't want to see each other get hurt. He had learned his lesson.
