Malec in the Moonlight

A/N: So here's the update I mentioned on my page. Hope y'all enjoy!

****Alec's POV****

Alec found Magnus at the cave entrance. The Hunter was leaned up against the cave wall, gaze focused on the starry sky above. Neither of them knew when the day turned to night, but it hardly mattered. Between one blink and the next Alec was in his human form. Something told him that being at eye level was a good idea. The conversation ahead would hopefully be long, filled with good things. Surely he'll be happy? Predestined . . . it's a wonderful thing.

But then there was the issue of being a Hunter and all the problems that came with such a bloody legacy. Magnus was raised to hate dragons. The question wasn't whether or not he loved Alec per say —though of course he wanted to know this too— but instead it would be if this long held hate could be put aside. Moving on was never easy. And when this moving on involved a loved one he knew it was even more difficult.

"Magnus." He spoke gently.

"Alec." Magnus turned slowly. Surprise briefly flitted across his features at Alec's form. It was only the second time the two of them had been around the same height. Alec wondered which of his forms Magnus preferred better. He'd like to hope it was his dragon form. He was a dragon after all. "I've been looking for you."

"So I've heard." He took in Magnus's features like a man stranded in the desert for days, wanting to memorize every inch of his predestined's tan skin, golden eyes and spiky hair. The way the muscles in his jaw flexed every time he clenched down shouldn't have been as attractive as it was. If Magnus minded the likely obvious ogling, he said nothing about it, just gave a small chuckle.

"We need to talk."

"Yeah. I figured you'd say as much."

There was a pause, the two males regarding each other with unreadable emotions. The moon glittered on the surface of the pond below. Waves dappled with moonlight as an owl called out into the night. Tucked away, his wings itched for air, freedom amidst the stars. It was said that Lightwoods gained their powers from the stars, hence the control they had over them. Alec felt their power intermingling with his own now. The warmth was reassuring, relaxing the tenseness in his back and shoulders.

"We're predestined." Magnus spoke again. His voice was keeping at a constant low level, like it was too afraid to go higher. Alec wondered why the Hunter was being so secretive. And using his deduction he came to one answer. He didn't like it.

"No ones going to care."

"Hah. There's no need to lie Alec. Trust me there isn't."

"But I'm not lying."

"I don't believe that for a second."

The glare shot his way had him backpedal, but only slightly. In human form Magnus was just the slightest inch taller than him. Alec had never realized it before, but being this close now, the difference in their heights felt monumental. A part of him couldn't help imagining that same glare being used in a different situation. Pinned to a wall with his hands over his head. Magnus towering over him as they kissed again and again and again . . .

Woah woah woah, don't get ahead of yourself. Bad Alec. Bad.

His instincts really were trying to get the better of him today. Predestined, when found, rarely waited this long to get properly aquatinted. Well, unless they were too young for the more . . . promiscuous side of things. In which case they waited till they were old enough.

"Fine. Maybe that's not entirely true. But even if someone did have a problem with it there's no changing it. You can't deny the bond predestined share." Alec explained firmly. He didn't want there to be any objections, any wiggle room in his argument.

Magnus kept on wiggling, to his ire. The glare deepened. "Maybe, but no one will allow it, us to happen surely."

Alec fought to keep the frustration out of his voice. "I'm prince, they won't be able to tell me no."

"What about your parents? What about King Robert?"

That did make him wince. What would his Father think? Surely there would be some bad blood there, what with Magnus trying to kill him and all. But we can get past that. And Dad always said the bond of a predestined pair is the most important thing. He wouldn't try to ruin one when they're so rare.

"Dad will understand, and so will Mom if we give them a chance. Is this really even about them though?"

Now it was Magnus's turn to ask questions, glare turning to a scowl. "What do you mean?"

Alec bit his lip, toying with his options. With Magnus so close, his mind kept trying to wander. How easy it would be to let his actions do the talking. Even in human form he knew he was physically stronger (likely to Magnus's chagrin). He could rush at him, put all the passion and emotion building beneath his skin into a kiss. It would speak a thousand words. I want you. I've been waiting for you. I love you. I love you. I love you. When a dragon met their predestined all the complications with love were meant to fall away. Instead, Alec was found with more than ever. The irony wasn't lost on him.

"Your not just saying all that because you don't want to admit you don't want this. You don't . . . don't want me." Saying it felt like dragging nails across his heart. The gaping wound left behind was sure to bleed out lest someone come patch it up, said someone giving him the most dumbfounded look currently. Alec averted his gaze, unwilling to face the rejection full force. He expected a sneer to replace the confusion in a few short seconds.

Being predestined with someone was everything to dragons, but Alec wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the same for humans. Different species view things like this in other ways. They may even come up with the argument that 'no one but themselves control their fate'. How silly a notion. From the day you were born there were thousands upon millions of others influencing your life. Sure, you could make your own choices, but fate already knew the ones you would make, could see your life from start to finish right when you were born.

"No. No no no. I'm not saying that. I'm never saying that Alec. I want you." Magnus looked down, face reddening. "I want you more than you know."

"Oh. R-really?"

"Yes really. I just thought this wouldn't be accepted . . . is all. I'm not exactly a dragon, am I?"

"Nope. You really aren't, but I don't care," Alec said, putting in all the firmness he could.

"That's nice to know. I wondered if you might not want this. Whatever's growing between us, to escalate." Magnus explained in a quiet tone. "Because of all that I've done, because of my original intentions in coming here."

"You mean because you originally planned to destroy all dragon-kind, starting with my father?" Alec asked for clarification, not that he really needed it.

Magnus swallowed down awkwardness, looking up again. His eyelashes were exceptionally long for a human, casting a shadow over those luminous golden orbs. Alec thought them prettier than all gold. And he was a dragon, so that was saying a lot.

"Yes. I am sorry for all the trouble I've caused, just in case I haven't already said so."

"Don't think you have, but it doesn't matter." Alec chuckled. "What matters is what happens now. As predestined, we're meant to be. So I want us to become closer, to connect further than all the other bonds we have in this world. Because this is the way of dragon-kind, what I've dreamed of since I was young."

Magnus beamed, a softness to his face Alec hasn't seen before. "Well you can have it now. We can have it now." The stars seemed to dance in his eyes.

The two edged closer to each other, the remaining tension melting out of their postures. Winking lights made his heart feel the outpouring of love radiating around them both. Predestined were meant to be perfect for one another, were often in tune with their emotions. With no one around to stop the rapid beats of his heart Alec took Magnus's hands, squeezing them in his own. The warmth in them radiated with the heat Alec knew was in his face. It was so easy to get lost in this feeling of happiness, this understanding that they were together now.

"Then let's have it."

Their kiss was everything Alec imagined it would be.

It felt like coming home.

Magnus's lips were soft, a sigh a mix of exhalation and prayer left his lips when they parted. An idea came to mind with a twinge in his back, a fluttering in his soul. When Predestined first connected there was one thing above all else they did together alongside the sharing of love.

"You're amazing." Magnus told him, staring at him with adoration.

Alec smiled, it carried up to his eyes. "You are too. And there's something I want to show you. Or should I say something I want to do with you."

"Oh. And what would that be?" Magnus tilted his head in question.

He hadn't the slightest clue how Magnus would feel about this, yet none of him felt afraid of the response he was about to get. "Let's fly together. You and me."
