Chapter Fourteen: Lorraine Martin

After we had filled Parrish in on the supernatural things and the dead pool, Lydia began to tell her story about her Grandmother, she had only told us a small bit about her Grandmother and Meredith. She sat on the end of Derek's bed, her eyes wondering all of us. I stood next too Parrish, as Derek stood to the right of Lydia and Scott to the left of her.

"Meredith was only at my Grandmother's Lake house once. But I think once was enough," Lydia had began, this must be painful for her, too retell her grandmother story to us.

"How did your grandmother know her?" Derek had asked, his eyes on Lydia.

"She didn't... She found her. Because of another woman named Maddy. The woman she loved," Lydia had said, rummaging through her bag to receive a photo. Lydia sighs, as she stands from the bed, going over to Scott. "I never met her," she began as she hands the image to Scott. "But I saw her name everywhere. She used to be part of a yacht racing team. There were plaques and trophies in the lake house from all the regattas she'd won," Lydia said as she took a few steps away from Scott.

"How did she die?" Parrish had asked. Lydia had focused on eyes on Parrish.

"How's not the story. It's what happened right before..." I could already tell by Lydia's voice that this was going to be a sad story. "My grandmother, Lorraine, used to work in San Francisco for IBM," she smiled thinly as she thought of the past before spinning on her heels to face the windows, as she takes small steps. "She was there on a weekend, catching up on work... She started hearing this sound... Like rain. But when she looked out of the windows..." Lydia took her gaze out of the widow. "All she saw was blue sky,"

"But she kept hearing the rain?" I had asked Lydia, but she didn't turn to face me, she just stared out of the window like she was in a trance.

"And it just kept getting louder... Rain, thunder crackling like gunshots in her head," Lydia took a few steps closer to Scott. "So loud. She finally just screamed,"

"Like a Banshee," Derek had said.

"She called Maddy, who was planning on taking one of the boats out on the lake. But Maddy said that the sun was shining there too. So Lorraine didn't say anything," Lydia had done a full circle, as she was lost in her own words and in her own world.

"There was an accident?" Parrish states, as Lydia didn't look at Parrish or me, she looked in the distance.

"It took them four days to find Maddy's body. And then it took decades to figure out how Lorraine knew. She started with parapsychologists, like the PhD in their name made it more scientific. They built the study in the lake house according to every pseudoscientific theory they could find... None of it worked," Lydia's voice was so upset, you didn't need super hearing to hear it in her voice. "Then she started getting into more extreme occult. Things like mediums and psychics. All of them were failures. Until Meredith. They found her at Eichen House. This fragile girl who didn't understand the things she heard... They brought her to the study. And they almost killed her. She was hospitalised for over a year... She..." Lydia were at a lost of words as she felt bad. Guilt was taking over her. "Never really recovered. My grandmother drove her insane. And I drove her to suicide. And all she ever wanted to do was help..." Lydia sounded broken, as she think she caused the death of Meredith.

"Lydia, you couldn't have done anything to stop her," my voice soft to ear as she turns to face me, her expression knowing, but she still feels bad. Lydia goes to the table, as we followed her. Derek stood beside her as he leans on the table, using his hands as anchors on the wood. As Scott and Parrish was on the opposite side of them, as I stood at side of the table.

"My grandmother created the code for the dead pool," she places a piece of paper with code onto the table. "They think she's the Banshee who put the names out in the first place," she slid the piece of paper towards Scott so he could have a look. "She left me this message in the same code,"

"But she didn't leave a cipher key, did she?" Scott had asked, but it wasn't going to be that easy for us all.

"It's not going to be that easy," I had remarked as Scott had nodded his head to me, as he knew it wasn't. I sigh as I take my sight to Lydia as she looked lost and sad. I went around to her, and embraced her into a hug, she welcomed it as she really needed it. Comfort is all we have at the moment...

"I better get going," Parrish had said, making me recline from the hug, bringing my attention back to him.

"I'll walk you to your car," I had said to him. "I'll be back up soon," I aimed that at Scott and Derek, as I imagine Lydia was also leaving.

Parrish and I left the loft behind as we made our way down to the car which was a police one. How ironic... We came to a stop at the car as we didn't speak a word to one another on the way down.

"Thank you," Parrish had spoken, catching me off guard. He turns to face me as he stood next to the car door. "For finding me when you did,"

"Oh, no problem," I had waved him off as it wasn't a problem to do. "I've seen bigger flames at my own Witch trial," I had remarked back, as I chuckled at my own past.

"Doesn't it get lonely?" Parrish had asked, as Scott gave him the basics on what I was. A Hybrid; a vampire and a witch. I look into his eyes as he didn't mean in that way.

"Very," I replied with a soft voice as this life was very lonely, living forever isn't a thing you want to go through. "But I've seen so much, made friends, loved and lost people. But in the end, I wouldn't change it," I had offered him a small smile, as I thought of my past so more.

"I can imagine," he replied softly, as that's all he could. Imagine. He didn't live what I lived through, he didn't see what I saw. That's all in the past though, I'm looking into the future... "I guess I'll see you around?" Parrish had asked, as I offered him a wider smile this time around.

"Probably more now," I had smirked at him as he smiles at my comment, before getting into the car, probably leaving in shock as I just vanished on him.

I had vamp-sped back into the building and up back into Derek's loft. "Does this have something to do with your eyes?" I hear Scott as Derek, as I hid behind a pillar, as I wanted to listen in.

"My eyes, my strength, the healing... All of it," Derek had said, making me frown, as I don't know what was going on with him.

"Gone?" Scott asks, shocked laced in his voice.

"Whatever Kate did to me, it's still happening," Derek replied to Scott's question but my heart had dropped. Derek was losing his powers because of what Kate did, and I was off not giving a care in the world.

"If the dead pool really was made by a Banshee then there's something else that you should know about," Scott was mustering up the strength to tell him. "Your name broke the third list. It was a cipher key," Scott had told Derek, but my heart had dropped some more.

"And the two other keys were Allison and Aiden," Derek had said, these were the two people who are dead, meaning the third would also have to be dead as well... Or going to die...

"And I... I don't want to make you nervous, but it kind of feels like there might be a pattern there, doesn't it? Allison, Aiden... You," Scott had said, as he took the words right from my brain.

"Names picked by a Banshee," Derek went on to say.

"It... It could mean that you're in danger," Scott said, as he was worried for Derek and so was I.

"Scott, Banshees don't predict danger," Derek had began as he was going say something with death in it, but I was going to say it before him. Because he hid this from me, and I thought there weren't going to be any lies between us...

"They predict death," I had said as I came from the pillar as their heads shot towards me, but my gaze was on Derek and my eyes held hurt in them and he knew.

"How long have you been listening in," Derek had asked, as he wasn't sure.

"Long enough," I had replied back, as I felt hurt because he didn't tell me. If he told me sooner I could have done something about it. "Why lie to me Derek. I could have helped you," my tone hurt as he didn't confine in me to help him out.

"I did!" He raised his voice at me, as he was going to let me have it. "You turned you back on me when I asked!" I was taken back by his raised voice, but I didn't let it show.

"I had my emotions off, I didn't give a crap!" I raised my voice back at him, as tears threatened my eyes. "Something you should know a lot about," I remarked at him, as my voice was sassy. "I don't even want to do this now. You know that I gave you the option to call or text me if you needed anything! Because I thought it was a way to amend what I had done to you," tears began to fall down my cheek swiftly, as it was like a waterfall. "You don't know how bad I feel Derek, how bad I hate myself for hurting you. You don't have to live the rest of your life with the guilt eating you up inside. But I do," I had let him have it, I had just spoke what was on my mind. He was taken back by my response. I took a shaky breath as I ran my hand through my hair. "None of you will ever under stand my pain," I had cocked my gaze between Scott and Derek, as they wouldn't know my pain. No one ever will...

More tears fell down my cheeks, I shook my head at them gesturing I had given up. But they both just stood their in silence as they knew they didn't understand my pain. I turn on my heels and before they could get a word in, I had vamp-sped from the loft and down the stairs... The tears had flown off of me as I was moving so fast, but the pain in my heart stuck...
