Chapter Eight: Past Memories
I had gotten home, it was filled with memories. I had told Allison I was a Witch here and also a Vampire, but these were good memories. I sat crossed legged on the couch, as I stare blankly out in the distance, thinking of the past. Flashes of Allison's face appeared in my minds eye. Her smile, her laugh everything good about her. But then flashes of of her death, how the last thing I saw of her was her being stabbed. I didn't even get a proper good-bye.
Tears began to roll down my face, as sobs escaped my mouth. Anger, sadness, ranged up inside of me and I couldn't contain it any longer. I screamed at the top of my lunges, but it was more of a painful cry. The fire place lit itself as the flames were hot from where I sat, the painful cry died down, as I whimper to myself. But the pain makes me human, it keeps me in check with my humanity, and after the experience I had with no emotions, I wouldn't like to go through it again.
"I miss you Allison," my voice was soft as I spoke aloud. My eyes drifted down to my hands, but out of the corner of my eye I see a glowing light emitting from the wooden cabinet, where my necklace lays. I smiled sadly, as I got up from the couch and headed over to the draw. I pulled it open to reveal it shining but then began to dimmed as I picked it up in my hand. "Never again," I whispered to myself as I made the promise of not turning it off. I place the necklace around my neck and let it sit back where it was, it filled the hole in my heart...
Though my journey was going to be long and I had to apologise to everyone that I hurt and threatened. But mostly I will have to live with the guilt and shame that I've done. The most hardest thing will be facing my friends as myself...
............................................
I had dressed for school as it was the PSAT's day which was a Saturday and I couldn't miss it, I needed to do it. I place my soft black material boots on, which had a few inch heel on them. I felt better about myself, after the good cry yesterday night, but there was still the fact I had to face my friends. Which was going to be awkward as anything. Maybe I could wait a century? That would only make things worse, I had to see them, to make amends...
I had exited my house, and went to my BMW which I hadn't given back yet, but it was my only means of transport, so for now, we're keeping it. I had gotten in and it still has that new car smell, which was always nice. I began the car and pulled out of the drive and began my journey to the school...
Within half-an-hour, I had reached the school and parked up, and made my way inside. As I came through the doors, I see Scott, Stiles, Malia and Kira, all talking to one another. I wanted to go over and act like there wasn't anything wrong, but my body didn't move. I just couldn't, face them right now, but at some point I will. I hang my head low and walked to the line and stayed at the back, as probably Scott and Stiles had told everyone by now that I had my emotions back. I could feel eyes upon me, and when I looked up, I see Scott and Stiles staring at me with a soft smile. But before they could come over, Lydia's Mum opened the door, and began allowing students in.
One by one the students entered, they signed in and used their thumb print to place on a piece of paper, and then was given their booklets. I had did the same as Scott and the rest before me. I place my phone into the bag as I smile at Ms. Martin before walking down to find an empty seat behind a girl who didn't look too well. Maybe it was just the stress of the test. I placed the booklet down on the table and sat, as I waited for the test to begin.
"Please do not open the test booklet until you are instructed to do so," the teacher states, as we had to wait, but out of the corner of my eye I see Stiles looking at the first page, classy Stiles. "This test is two hours and ten minutes. There will be two Twenty-Five-minute critical reading sections, two Twenty-Five-minute math sections and an essay writing portion that will last Thirty minutes," he had said to the class as we all understood, before he turns his gaze to Ms. Martin. "There are supposed to be two teachers monitoring this exam,"
"I know. It's Coach. He's not exactly punctual. Um, let me just try him again," Ms. Martin states to the other teacher, before going out of the class, going to ring him. I tapped my pencil in mid-air, waiting for this to begin so I can finish.
About five-minutes had passed and the door opens and Ms. Martin walks in. "I can't find him, but Mr. Yukimura is upstairs grading papers. Do you want me to try him?" She had suggested a second teacher for the job.
"We have to start. We can ask for his assistance during the first break," the teacher with a kind of funny voice states, as Ms. Martin nods. He looks down to the desk and presses a stop watch. "You may now open your test booklets and begin," he states, and the students in the room open their books and begin. I open my booklet and began to read the questions, I might have had my emotions off, but I still did a bit of studying and I lived through the centuries so anything to do with History I would be good at.
Awhile later, I was actually doing great, the questions were easy, I might have missed a few but I was going to go back to them. My eyes peered up from my sheet for a moment, to see the girl in front of me, sway to the left, a bit too much and before I knew it she fell to the floor, making everyone turn to her.
"Sydney!" Ms. Martin states, as she rushes down to aid her. She crouches down and holds her arms, getting her to stand. "Are you all right?" She asks, her tone motherly.
"I'm ok. I just got kind of dizzy," Sydney replies, as she stood to her feet, but she didn't look too well still. Where I sat, I see Ms. Martin's face twist in confusion, but it also held worry.
"Sydney, how long have you had this?" She asks, as she looks over Sydney's wrist.
"I don't know," she replied as her voice was scared as she had no clue where she got whatever they were looking at.
"Ms. Martin, do I need to stop the test?" The teacher that I have no idea what he's called asked.
"No, um, it''s fine," she states but she wasn't too sure. Sydney sits back in her seat as Ms. Martin walks to the front of the class before tuning to face us all. "Everybody stay in your seats. I'll, um, be back in a minute," she turns to the desk and grabs her phone. "Nobody leaves the room," she states in a hush whisper, but I heard it as clear as day.
Whispers began to emit around the class room, as a few minutes went by as we were waiting for her. "Get back! No!" I hear Lydia's mother yell down the hallway, as I hear her heels click against the floor, like she was running. "Do not come in here! Get back outside!" She yells down the hallway. In the class people began to stand from their seats and head for the door, going out to see what was a matter, but I remained seated as Scott and Stiles went to check. "Back to your seats. Now," her tone was stern as she meant the words she spoke. "Please," She begs the students and then came back inside. Scott and Stiles were the last two people to enter the room. "I need the number of the CDC," I heard her say, probably down the phone. "Yes, the Center for Disease Control,"
Within half-an-hour the CDC team was at the school, all wearing suits to protect themselves from the infection that might be spreading around the school, but I feel fine. Stiles, Malia and Kira and stood together, talking. I mean it was now or never really. I walk towards them, as Malia and Kira stare at me.
"Hey, guys," I spoke quietly, as I waved my hand out to them. God, this was totally awkward, but it had to be done. I had to make the effort of speaking to them. "I just want to say that I'm truly sorry, about what I've done and I don't blame you if you don't forgive me," My eyes flicked between the three of them, as my expression was soft. "I've done bad things and they're unforgivable, but I just wanted you to know that from the bottom of my heart that I'm sorry," I had spoken the truth, but not one of them spoke, and I had that coming. I nodded my head in agreement to their silence.
"Alice isn't it," Malia had spoken, though we hadn't had a chance to truly be introduced to one another. I offered her a smile and nodded. "Nice to meet you and thank you," she had said, as I titled my head to the side as I was confused what she was thanking me for. "Oh, Stiles said you saved me from being shot by my Dad,"
"You're welcome," I smiled sweetly at her, as this was good.
"Bet they're thinking smallpox," Stiles states to us, as it could be or it could be something else.
"Not likely," the teacher states, making us all take our gazes to him. "Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1979," his gaze was looked at the desk, but he spoke the truth as it was. I remember reading it in the newspaper. His gaze had lifted up to look at us four. "We've only managed to completely eradicate two viruses in history. The other was rinderpest. It killed cows," his seemed to gaze off into the distance.
"So we should be comforted by that, right?" Stiles had asked, hoping it wasn't anything serious.
"Unless it's something worse," the teacher replies as that didn't give us any hope at all.
"Whatever it is, they're taking it pretty seriously," Malia had stated as she was listening in from outside. "They're a lot of cars and trucks out there," I see out of the corner of my eye Stiles itching himself, as he was worried about the situation. "Your dad's with them," Malia had spoken after moment of hearing his voice.
"I should probably call him," Stiles states as he stands from the desk he was lent against.
"Don't bother," the teacher states, as Stiles and the rest of us look at him. "They would have shut off any access to all outside communication by now. No cell service, no WiFi. No one starting a panic... Looks like we're all just going to have to wait here and see what happens," something is really wrong with that teacher, I would be freaking the hell out, not reading some book...
I had a gut feeling that this was going to get worse...
