Chapter 1
Restot looked around, the humans had left this place long ago, far beyond living memory. Restot searched for the scarce prey tentatively as he remembered the warning he was always told 'beware the traps' they would say.
Restot knows this more than most because he had personal experience of these 'traps' as his own father had been caught in one while Restot was but a pup. He remembers his fathers still beating heart falling just a nose length away from him. There was nothing but that heart to mourn over the rest was blown into so many bits no one could determine what part of the body it was. He was the first one gone. All hunters after that had learnt how to skirt around suspicious areas.
Restot shook off his thoughts and focused on the hunt.
Hopefully I shall bring home enough kill for the hungry pups and elderly Restot deliberated as he opened his senses for prey.
As he surveyed his surroundings it was overgrown with plants of both natural and artificial origination. The artificial plants were those we had to watch out for. The humans had used them to cover the traps which in turn made the prey more scarce. The area was once full of humans with metal cylinders that shot small pellets at others. Why would they do this? We would never know, us wolves don't get involved in human affairs. all Restot knew was that it had consequences. Consequences that affected him and the now unstable ecosystem. Suddenly, Restot's ears flicked round to pinpoint on something whether it was harmful or prey he didn't know. The thing appeared and he recognised it as prey about to be kill. He crouched down. Ready to pounce. He leapt at the prey. Scooping it up with his paw. Ended its life with a scratch. This shall be a great meal for a litter of hungry pups. Restot told himself.
There! Another. He crouched and got ready to leap. Then, he heard the voice of his father, Restot we shall meet again soon his father ominously warned him.
"HEY! YOU!" A female voice Restot didn't recognise called out.
"What?!" Restot responded pinpointing where it came from and turning to see who was talking to him.
"Don't you know it's dangerous?" Her voice was laced with fake sounding concern.
"Yes. I do, in fact, know it's dangerous." Restot told her sounding diplomatic
"Oh."
"Yeah. My father was the first gone." Restot knew he was loading her with all his trauma but he didn't really care. He just wanted her to go away.
"Oh, sorry I didn't know I should've remembered Elttek's son" she said with actual sadness. "Especially as he saved my life." That part was under her breath as if Restot wasn't supposed to hear it.
A/N This is my first non FanFiction book and this came from a single prompt at school. I would like to mention my editors M, E and my mum. They have supported my decision to write this and helped me through my writers block. This is wholly my idea/plot so if there is something you recognise in any way it is a coincidence. I took a lot of inspo from Erin Hunter as They wrote my favourite book series (apart from PJO) Warrior Cats. It may take a while for the next chapter to come out.
