Caspien's True Side

Bret had officially disappeared with Aaron. Garrett was released from the tree. He started to struggle right away, but Caspien nailed him in the gut to make hesitate then fall to the ground on one knee.

Ryan came over and helps Garrett up but still clamps on the handcuffs. They are only around his writs and his arms are behind his body, like someone being escorted to a police car. " Caspien!" Chris had to cover his ears from the volume alone. "I will not take treating a perp with disrespect, even if it is Garrett."

Unlike Garett who completely dismissed his horse and would have to one day get a new one, Ryan trained his horse to stay nearby. He may not have used it or had the horse follow right behind him, but over the years of being a Ranger, he was able to train it to stay a mile or so back. This way people could not trace it back to Ryan or use it to pinpoint Ryan's exact location. Ryan placed two fingers into his mouth and whistled. After a few minutes, the horse came running over. Ryan tied a rope around Garrett's restraint and the other end to his saddle. Ryan collected the rest of his materials and packed up. He looks over to his shoulder and noticed Chris was still present.

Chris was busy looking at the satchel. He was trying his best to see if he could see Sam in the jar. He understood she needed to be secure, but he couldn't stop thinking about if she was ok, scared, or had enough air. He felt Ryan move up on the horse and pull the rains to give the signal that they had to start moving. Ryan was traveling at a pace faster than walking, but since Garrett was trailing behind he couldn't gallop. Caspien was trailing behind but would soon enough get his own horse when they got back into the town.

The plan was for both to travel to the next town. In that town, Ryan would contact his superior about apprehending Garrett and Sam. Then purchase two horses, one for Garrett, the other for Caspien, and ride back into his home town. On horseback, since he wasn't chasing anyone, it would take three days to get back.
--------------------------------------------

Along the way, Ryan and Caspien have stopped a total of two times. They were just about to make their third and final stop of the day, the town. Ryan looks down at Chris and was expecting him to be asleep from all the excitement, but he was wide awake still staring down at the satchel. Ryan climbed off the horse right before entering the town. He collected Chris in his hand and placed him on the ground. Ryan collected the satchel and placed it in front of them.
" You've been worried about the girl the whole time, haven't you." Ryan took out the jar and presented it to Chris. " See she is fine."

Chris looked at Sam in the jar. She looked different from all the other times he saw her. She was spunky, yelling, hot-headed and energetic. Now looking at her, she was sitting down on the ground and curling her legs up close to her body. She was hugging them and looking down. She looked depressed and trapped, like a caged animal. Chris looked up at Ryan. "Can I ask you something?"

Ryan looked over at Caspien and held up one finger indicating he needed one minute before they went into the town. Caspian understood and worked on getting Garrett ready to go into the town. Ryan changed into his human form to talk to Chris better. He walked over and set his hand on Chris's shoulder. " What do you need? You seem unsettled"

Chris looked down. He knew with every fiber Ryan wouldn't do anything to him, but it was like asking a loved one a question you knew they would say no to.
" Well, I was wondering if while you were taking Garrett into the town you could leave me and Sam out here... And possibly...Maybe let her out." Chris was looking down at the ground. "You can leave someone behind if you want to watch us. What could he possibly do?... Plus you're going to a Fay town? I'm not wanted there."

Ryan could tell he was rambling at this point. He was moving back and forth. Ryan shook his head. He knew it was a horrible idea, but from this perspective, he could tell the situation did have to seem uncomfortable and scary. As long as she wasn't around Garrett, maybe it wouldn't be a problem.

Ryan transformed back into a Fay. Chris keeps looking down he was thinking Ryan was not going to listen to him and do what he wanted. His job comes first after all. Ryan walked over to Caspien and talked low. " I will take Garrett off your hands. Stay here while I handle my business. It's too dangerous to bring the humans into the town with me anyway."

Ryan walked over and unscrewed the jar. He then placed it on its side. " Watch her. She leaves, it's your job on the line, not mine." Ryan walked off escorting Garrett into the town by holding him the cuffs and walking behind him.

Chris ran in to check on Sam. " Are you ok?" She still has not moved from her position. Her head was still down. " Hey, you ok?" Chris bent down to get in her face and places his hand on her shoulder. " You still alive?"

Sam grabbed Chris by his neck. She pulled out a knife from her back pocket and put it to Chris's neck. The blade almost piercing through the skin. She flipped her body in front of his and pinned him down. She removed her hand from his neck and held his hands behind his back. She bent down and whispered in Chris's ear. " Where are they taking Garrett?"

Chris got an idea to delay this till Caspien noticed. " Why do you care? I thought you despised him?"

Sam heard his remark and got angry. She put the knife closer to his neck. " Mind your own business. Now answer my question." Sam did not let up.

Both felt the jar tilt forward. Both fell to the bottom and Sam fell on top of Chris. The jar was sitting upright, and the jar lid was placed back on. Sam rushed off of Chris and ran to the wall. She saw Caspien holding the jar and smiling.

" Honestly I was thinking of an opportunity to steal the necklace from Garrett, but this opportunity is so much better to not pass up. Having both the Ranger and Garrett's pets would easily persuade them to hand over anything." He shoved the jar into his own bag containing now both Sam and Chris. He gathered up all his items and left.
