District 9 - male tribute - Clayton
Find a water source.
That's what my mentor said. Don't go into the cornucopia. Don't.
Don't.
Don't.
DO.
Seeing Petra get blown to bits made me feel better about my chances, if people are already dying, how hard can this be?
So When it was time to make a decision, I went for it.
Y.O.L.O right?
Especially in this case.
I leaped and sprinted and dodged multiple tributes, eyes on the center of the pile. Before I could get there, some girl swiped a backpack and I cursed. That was the one I wanted. I watched as one of the district two favorites, Thalia, who scored a near perfect eight in training, tripped over another backpack while charging the girl whose name I had forgotten.
What I did remember about the girl was how in her interviews with Caesar Flickerman, she was charming and evading, never seeming to answer the questions yet still captivating the audience.
I realized I had stopped running after I saw the girl being impaled by a trident. I started running and reached the center of the pile right as Thalia recovered from her fall. Facing off I made a noise that I'm sure sounded very, very manly.
I whimpered.
"Um, I'm just going to... yeah," I said while shrugging and and looking very awkward. Was I supposed to talk them or was it all killing and no talking?
"Do you want to make an alliance?" She, surprisingly, asked.
Catching me off guard, I eyed her suspiciously and mumbled something very intelligent like "Uhh... what?"
"You, me, an alliance. Killing tributes side by side." Her voice was pretty, too pretty for the arena.
"You ain't going to kill me in my sleep?"
"Anything I say I could be lying so let's stop asking stupid questions and start gathering supplies," Thalia responded.
Nodding, I scooped up a smaller orange backpack than the one the charming girl had took, and a couple sharp weapons.
We found a spot in the woods and made camp. Any time I tried to start a conversation, she shut me up by giving me a task to do. Organize the supplies, go collect water, find berries that look like blah blah blah.
She offered to take first watch that night and I told her to go ahead.
I fell asleep watching the faces of the dead light up in the sky.
I awoke when I heard ragged breathing close by and bolted upright, right into the knife that Thalia had positioned at my gut.
Her eyes wide with surprise that I woke up, Thalia fell backward on her heels.
My eyes wide with surprise that I had just woken up with steel in my stomach, I died.
