No Longer His
Note: (Y/N) has to be some sort of bird for story purposes.
Thank you, and have a nice day.
"I am not your lusus naturae, Merlot!" I struggled against the chains wrapped around my wrists.
"Oh, but you are, boy! Your family sold you to me for use in my experiments as repayment for their debt. Now, hold still as I slowly inject this needle into you!" Dr. Merlot slowly approached me with an unsterilized needle.
Come on, release me! Set us free!! RELEASE ME!!! My other self begged for me to let loose and forget our humanity.
I am human, not some monster Merlot created!
But you ARE me! Release me or die!
Gazing at the rusty needle that was slowly approaching me, I sighed and let my other self take over. In a flash, my skin began to bubble and turn black and my entire body changed into the form of a Beowolf with eerie green crystals on my back. My vision turned red and everything became blurred, but Merlot was clear as day and I could smell the fear spewing off him. Roaring just like a Beowolf, I broke free of my restraints and slash him with my left claw, causing his form to become blurred and unrecognizable like my surroundings. Letting out a giant roar, I started to sprint out of the lab, killing any guards that got in my way, alongside any scientists. I don't care who I kill, they all work for that fool.
Someone hit the panic button, sending the entire building into lock-down mode. All low-level windows were shut and every door locked with a blast door. Good thing I was on the upper levels and in a room with a lot of windows. Spotting a building some distance aways, I looked behind me to see guards spewing with anger and holding some sort of heavy weapon and I looked forwards, back at the roof. Grinning ear-to-ear, I lept out of the window, shattering it, and landed on the roof without a scratch. Letting out a howl of freedom, fear shot through the people of Mountain Glenn and they watched as I took a giant leap from the roof I was perched on, heading towards the outskirts of the city. Grimm rushed towards the city as I ran from it and with the confusion of the Grimm attack, I was as good as gone.
Landing on a tree branch deep in the forest, I reverted back to my human form and I struggled to keep my eyes open. Leaning against the trunk of the tree, I drifted to sleep and didn't wake up until a man shouted up at me.
"Hey, kid! What the hell are you doing up there?!"
My eyes fluttered open to let me look down at a man with black hair, red eyes and a sword in his hand. "Huh?"
"What are you, half-deaf?! I asked what you were doing up there!"
"Huh?" I looked around and saw I was sitting on a branch. Looking back towards Mountain Glenn, I saw smoke covering the morning sky above the city expansion. Slowly, I put a hand to my face. "Fuck me."
"Hey! Kid! You haven't answered my question yet!"
I sighed and hopped down from the branch, landing on two legs. Gazing up into the man's eyes, I sighed again. "You're a huntsman, correct?"
"Yeah. I work for Ozpin. You know him, right? Headmaster of Beacon?"
"I've heard of him. Listen, I... used to be a test subject before..."
"Before the destruction of Mountain Glenn?"
"... I'm the reason it fell."
"What?"
I sighed. "It'd be best if I show you. Just... stay your blade, okay?"
The huntsman gave me a curious look, then lept away as I turned into a Beowolf again. He held his blade in a defensive pose but looked on in awe as I turned back into a human. Sighing, I tucked my hands into my pockets.
"It's an 'all or nothing' transformation. Merlot was about to inject me again with some unknown substance contained in a non-sterilized syringe and I just had enough and broke out. I had to use that form to do so and only when I was in this forest was I able to revert back."
The Huntsman said nothing but glanced at his Scroll, which had an ongoing call.
"So go ahead, call me a lusus naturae. I deserve it." I waved my arms out in a defeated way.
The Huntsman glanced at his Scroll again before saying "I hope you caught all that," and hanging up. Tucking his Scroll into a pocket, he approached me with his sword holstered on his lower back. Kneeling down to my level, he looked me in my (E/C) eyes. "When you admitted to the destruction of Mountain Glenn, I was about to take you into custody, but it sounds like you didn't mean to cause so much panic during your escape. And... being honest with ya... it seems that you have more bad luck than me. So... tell you what."
My head perked up as I gazed at the Huntsman.
"I'll take you in, okay?" He held out his hand.
I gazed at it for a long time before I shook it and said "(Y/N) (L/N)."
The Huntsman smirked. "Qrow Branwren."
I followed him back to an island he called "Patch" and led me straight to his house. When he opened the door, Qrow didn't expect for there to be a man and a woman waiting for him inside.
"Oz? Glyn? What are you two doing here?" Qrow set his sword against the wall, right next to the door.
The woman, who I assume is named/nicknamed "Glyn" pointed the end of her riding crop directly at me, riling the beast within me. "He's the reason we came. After your call with Ozpin, letting him eavesdrop on that boy's admission, I looked up on whatever records we have of him."
I snorted. "Won't find much. I was sold to Merlot at around five in order to repay a debt my family had with him. I don't hate my parents, they were just trying to make most of their family happy."
"Glyn" gazed at her datapad. "It says here that your parents were both Faunus, and yet you are a registered human. Care to explain?"
"Simple. Legal action gave my mom custody after she divorced an abusive husband. She married to a fellow Faunus of a similar type to her and, well, there's your records." I stood there, clenching my fists and resisting my darker half.
Ozpin nodded as his fingers tapped against his cane. "I see... Well then, do you know about-"
"Lemme guess, Aura?" My cut-in caused those around me to look at me in surprise.
Smirking, I coated my body with my boysenberry colored Aura and looked the three adults in the eyes.
"Go on, strike me."
They exchanged glances and then Qrow gave me a slash with his sword and it was blocked by my Aura. They all showed signs of impression, but took a step back when my body began to glow a wine color. Closing my eyes, I forced that Aura down and turned off my Aura.
"Ugh, hate it when that happens. You see, the 'me' when I'm transformed into a Beowolf is totally different than the 'me' as a human. So much so that we have two different Auras and two different Semblances alongside the one we have allowing us to transform back and forth at will."
Qrow nodded and pulled some extra chairs to a dining table. "Huh. Well, how about we all take a seat? I'm getting sick of standing around so much."
"Glyn" and Ozpin both sat down while chuckling while I sat down without a sound, ready for more questions. The one they started with was "What are your Semblances?"
"You already know about my, er, power to transform into a Beowolf at will, I guess you could count it as a Semblance of some kind. But my human self, so 'me', I have the ability to create domed shields wherever and whenever I want."
Ozpin gazed at me expectantly. "Care to demonstrate?"
I smirked. "Try to stand up."
He did and bonked his head on the top of the shield. "What the-?" He felt around and discovered that he had been trapped in an invisible sphere.
Releasing my Semblance, I allowed Ozpin to sit back down with a chuckle. "Glyn" leaned on the table towards me.
"You said you had two Semblances, one for your human form and one for the other."
"Right. That other one, I've agreed with my 'other' self to call it 'Trickery'. Basically, it affects a person's cognition and I can do a variety of things to their brain, like, for example, have them get hit by a hundred of attacks, so they're too worn mentally to resist. Or I can, in theory, dull an ally's perception of pain as to help during medical procedures and such. I guess you can also do other things to help/harm others and in my eyes, with my three abilities, I can be a formidable force."
Qrow took out a flask from under his shirt and gazed at it. "... Yeah. I can sense that you have lots of Aura at your disposal. Bad thing is, you don't know how to use it."
"Nor control the beast within me effectively. I lose hours of sleep constantly, worrying if it's going to break loose and assume command or not." My scarred hands slowly curled into fists.
The was a brief dialogue between the adults before Qrow said something. "I am a teacher at Signal. Perhaps I can pull some strings and get you in? There I can help you with the beast and improve your fighting skills."
Perking my head up, I gazed at his red eyes that were full of kindness. "You'd be willing to do that? Even after my past with Merlot?"
He nodded. "Yep. I can even train you to be a scythe wielder, like me, if you want."
I smirked. "That would be great!"
The adults at the table all laughed and Qrow stood up. "Glad it's settled. You'd best get some rest; I'm starting training as soon as you wake up."
Nodding, I followed him to a room he had laying around and I swiftly fell asleep in the creaky old bed.
It feels so good to sleep in an actual bed.
The monster within me didn't disturb me at all that night.
Man, is this gunna be a work of art or what? Anyways, I'm kinda interested in what anime y'all have to offer. I've got Crunchyroll and VRV, so if something's on those platforms, go ahead and tell me.
Oh, PS: I AM HERE!
