The House with a Green Door

The house was always there, it wasn't a new house either. It was never noticed though. A green, decaying door that just gets ignored.

The house wasn't always ignored. In fact a big family used to live there and many people would visit, but something happened in that house to the family so that they were never seen again. Nobody would dare go near the house, anyone that did disappeared.

One girl worked up the courage to go see, and she is the only one who survived.

She walked up the path that was nearly hidden from view with all the overgrown weeds and bushes. The door looked creepier from close up, you could see the individual cracks and the paint peeling off. The walls were covered in uncontrolled ivy and moss and mould covering the roof of the house. The door knob was rusted, she was worried that it wouldn't still work and time had sealed the door forever.

As she reached for the door handle, she felt as though she was being watched. She tried to shake the feeling off but it kept nagging at her. She chose to ignore it enough to open the door. She made sure she didn't close it behind her in case she needed to get away fast.

The inside was as bad as the outside. Moss and mould covering everything. You could smell the damp that had started to come into effect long before anyone had stepped foot in the house. Another smell drifted through the house, she couldn't put her finger on to what it could be.

She stepped slowly through the narrow hallway, it was small and made her feel the overwhelming sense of claustrophobia. The house wasn't furnished but the decay made it feel full and untidy. There was a staircase to the left of the hallway that looked like it was struggling to keep itself upright. She couldn't imagine getting more than two steps without it collapsing in on itself, trapping her for eternity.

All the girl wanted to do now was go home. She hadn't even done what she wanted, but the house was giving off a presence that someone, no, something didn't want her there. She tried to shake the feeling off, unsuccessfully.

She walked towards the end of the hallway and there lay another green door. It was slightly intimidating how many doors were painted deathly green.

She opened the door and walked in, with it slowly closing behind her.

From miles around a scream could be heard.

Hours later, people found the girl miles away from where the house, laid, pale and sweating, muttering to herself. She refused to say what happened and wouldn't look anyone in the eye.

To this day she has not spoken a word about the events that happened, nobody else has returned from this house to tell the tale.
