PART 2

I had just crossed The House, when a sudden movement caught my eye. A flash of white and a low whistle.

And it had come from inside the gates. I froze, not knowing what to do.

My eyes darted around the garden, looking for any more movement.

Just walk away. Come on Emma.

I sighed inwardly. Curiosity was going to get me killed one day.

And just as I peeked inside, a gust of wind blew, and the slight drizzle stopped completely.

Talk about creepy.

Suddenly, I felt my body tingle and a buzzing sound in my ears. In that second I felt a force pushing me in... and before I knew it I was inside The House.

I stared around wide eyed, my heart beating erratically against my chest...how did I get inside The House?

The garden looked lifeless and just as I looked up at the front door, a shriek sounded from the house and I jumped, startled.

"My revenge.... at last" a voice whispered, carried by the wind, caressing my cheek.

I walked towards the front door, against my will. The door swung open and I peered in.

There was no one. Unsurprisingly.

Don't panic. I said to myself. Even though she might kill you, don't panic.

With the passing of each second, it felt harder to breath. Blood was pounding in my ears and I felt like I was going to pass out.

But I couldn't move. All I could do was stare at the view before me.

The interior was breathtakingly scary. The house was dark and looked like it hadn't been used in a long time. Cobwebs dotted the ceiling, some hanging precariously above me. The windows were lined above the staircase, which spiralled up to the upper floor.

There were so many rooms, that I lost track after counting a few. Even though it was still six in the evening, the sky was already beginning to darken.

My mind began to grasp any information I could think of about Rose.

Rose Hallow was twenty-four when she died.... the same age as my dad.

Dad.

I closed my eyes, willing myself not to think about that fateful night. It was a memory that I had kept locked up, but sometimes my emotions got the better of me and my body would go through the torture again.

I clutched my mother's hand tightly, wishing it was all a horrible dream and I would wake up to the usual smell of breakfast and chatter.

My mom and I were in the middle of dinner, as dad had told us he would be late due to work, when the telephone had rung, and as I watched my mom's face turn from a slight smile to panic, I knew something was wrong.

Now, as I stood on the sidewalk with my mother, the feeling of dread grew as a solemn looking policeman came up to us and told us that while driving, dad had lost control, and he had crashed into a tree.

I looked up at mom to see tears flowing down her cheeks, and I wiped my own.

This couldn't be happening. My dad... was dead.

My dad was dead.

When that finally sank in, it was like a switch was turned on. I started sobbing, my body shaking. I gripped my hair so tightly that it felt like it would come off.

My dad was dead.

I hugged mom tightly and she pulled me into her warm embrace, as we both took refuge in each other's arms.

Later, the police gave us a note they found in dad's jeans.

I blinked rapidly and sniffled, while wiping my tear-filled eyes.

I carried the piece of paper around all the time, maybe because it felt like carrying an essence of my dad wherever I went.

I took a tentative step forward and suddenly stumbled and fell flat on my face.

As I tried to get up, behind me the doors creaked and banged shut.

"No, no, no, no, no- don't close, don't close", I started panicking. I ran forward and started pounding on the door and tried to open it.

"It won't open, darling.", a female voice says from behind me.

I turned around quickly, looking at the empty house.

After mustering up enough courage, I finally called out, "Rose? Rose Hallow? Is that you?"

Silence.

"Look here", I continued, "I mean no harm.... so, could you just let me go?"

Silence.

I looked around me again. I didn't want to go inside the house and risk getting killed, but I figured if I went, I would at least get some answers.

I took a deep breath and got up. My sneakers didn't make much noise but left watery footprints.

I decided to check the rooms that were on the ground floor. As I made my way to the first room on the left, I saw movements from my peripheral vision. It felt like something, or someone was watching me.

She's still there, I reminded myself, she's watching every move I make.
