Chapter 7: Albus

My subconscious apparently thought that it would be funny to torment and confuse me while I was unconscious through the power of dreams.

I was in a meadow but when I looked down, I saw no body. I was invisible. Scanning my surroundings, I realized that I was in a meadow. Why was I in a meadow?

"James!" a girl shrieked in panic. She whirled around furiously and her long hair whipped to the side. It was Hermione.

A laughing boy flew past her, dangling upside down from a broom. His legs hooked around the broom while his arms were crossed over his chest. My eyes watered as I realized it was James. "Calm down, Hermione, I can't get— Agh!"

James's legs slipped from the broom and he began to fall headfirst to the ground. I panicked and tried to grab my wand out of my pocket until I remembered that I didn't have a body. Luckily, Hermione had both a wand and fast reflexes, "Aresto Momentum!"

James ascended slowly and laughed merrily. It felt like someone had punched me in the gut. I couldn't remember a time when James laughed so happily. He still laughed a lot, but there was also a hint of sadness to it.

"You're so reckless!" Hermione screamed and smacked him on the head, "Albus and Lily never scared me like that!"

A thoughtful look spread on James's face. "How do you think they're doing right now? I hope they're okay. Do you think they miss me?"

Hermione's look softened and she knelt down to hug him. She whispered into his ear, "Of course they miss you, idiot."

James trembled but I couldn't see his expression because he was looking down at his hands. "I miss them," he muttered softly and his voice cracked with emotion, "I miss them so much that it hurts. They'll have to deal with Voldemort all by themselves. I wish—"

He took a shaky breath and let loose a sob that wrenched my heart. When he spoke, he sounded like a child, even younger than Lily, "I wish I could be there for them."

He wrapped his arms even tighter around Hermione and continued the sobs that wracked his entire body. Hermione soothed him with tears of her own.

I reached out for him as the dream changed. I wanted to tell my big brother so many things. I wanted to tell him that I loved and missed him and so did Lily. I wanted to tell him that he didn't need to cry because I'd make him proud. I wanted to tell him that I'd stop Voldemort. But I couldn't. I wasn't a valiant hero. I was some thirteen year old who'd been thrust into the midst of war.

Red eyes flashed across my vision and I heard hissing. The forest, Hogwarts, and the bright lights of spells being casted flashed across my vision like a montage. A high, cold voice echoed in my head, "You're a fool, Harry Potter. And you will loose everything." Then a flash of bright green light.

Then I was in the Forbidden Forest, but I wasn't alone. I saw that I had a body this time but the people around me said nothing. James stood across from me, arms outstretched which made it seem like he was going to embrace me. On my left was Lily Potter, but it wasn't my sister. It was my grandmother, my twenty-one year old grandmother. The same one that died when my father was only one twenty-one years ago. On my right was my twenty-one year old grandfather. They looked a bit like ghosts but not entirely. They weren't fully transparent but they weren't solid either. The three spoke at once, "Albus—"

I bolted upright and my eyes flew open. I was in one of the largest guest bedrooms, which was used as an infirmary. I ran my fingers across my bandages on my chest, recalling purple fire and then going unconscious.

"I'm alive," I whispered in relief, "I can't believe I pulled that off!"

"That makes two of us," Scorpius said from the bed across from me.

I starred at him and, before I could stop myself, I said bluntly, "Did you just wake up? You look horrible."

Scorpius laughed bitterly, "Yeah, I just woke up. Excuse me for being kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic she devil."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have—"

"It's fine," Scorpius assured me, shaking his head.

"So what happened after they kidnapped you?" I asked after we stayed quiets for a few minutes. Right after I said it, I realized that it was a rude and dumb question. "No, sorry, you don't have to—"

"I remember running away," he whispered loud enough for me to hear, "I was running and crying, not caring where I was going when they caught me. Swirls of black engulfed me and I didn't know what was happening. Then I blacked out."

"You don't have—"

"No," he muttered as he trembled, "I'll tell you. They— they kept torturing me, I don't remember why—"

"Wait, what do you mean by that?" I asked anxiously. Surely he would've remembered what they were asking.

"I don't know," Scorpius whimpered, seeming genuinely confused, "Should I?"

"I— I don't know," I replied dumbly. What did happen to the minds of tortured people? Was this normal for people who've gone through the same thing as Scorpius? "Just tell me what happened."

"I remember some things though. Sometimes, I get these strange visions. But I know they're real," he told me, "The woman— Bellatrix— she ran the tip of her knife against my throat and screamed at me, for some location. I kept telling her I didn't know—"

I covered my mouth with my hands in horror, "Scorpius...

"But—" he continued with tears running down his face. He took big gulps of air and said with rattling breaths, "She— She never believed me. And as she was doing so, a vision came. I was in a forest and fighting for my life."

He stopped then pointed at me with a shaky finger, "You were there."

"What—" I took a deep breath to try to calm myself, "What do you remember?"

"A man who looked like someone in a vision rescued me along with two others. I swear, I said his name when he rescued me, I just don't remember. I blacked out again."

The truth hit me like a train. Scorpius was kidnapped, Scorpius was tortured, and now Scorpius remembered almost nothing about himself or his past.

Just then, the door opened and people began to enter. My family and the Malfoys entered, looking relieved to see Scorpius and I awake. Before I could tell them about his condition, Mr. Malfoy rushed forward and pulled him into a hug. "Scorpius, I'm so sorry about everything! I shouldn't have—"

"Who are you?" Scorpius asked in confusion.

~

MWAHAHAHAHA! I'm proud of myself. You know, I didn't originally plan to give Scorpius amnesia, but as I was typing the chapter, I was like, "What the heck? Let's give him amnesia!" So boom, amnesiac Scorpius. But hey, he remembers some things, so that's good.

As always, honest opinions please! What did you think of this chapter? Am I evil?

I think this book has gone by really slowly and we need to spice things up (even though they were gonna spice up in the next chapter too but plot within a plot, INCEPTION). And of course I need to work on updating. Comment what you think, again, and do you prefer the beginning of the previous book or this one? I'm not sure. Oh, and who's your favorite character? I can't pick because I feel like my characters don't seem real enough and I don't have much character development? What do you think?

That's it for now, thank you, and goodbye!
