Chapter 6: Lily

Hermione, Neville, Mr. Malfoy, Rose, and I Apparated right outside of the Hogwarts grounds. We then split up, Hermione and Neville joining a group of fifth year Ravenclaws and Malfoy, Rose, and I headed into the castle without raising suspicion.

"Hurry up," Malfoy muttered urgently, "I'm not going to lose Scorpius because you two can't keep up."

Rose glared at him and swatted at her blonde hair. Her Polyjuice Potion had changed her appearance to a third year Hufflepuff and mine had transformed me into a second year Gyrffindor. Malfoy was a fourth year Gryffindor. He tugged distastefully at his red and gold tie.

"It's your fault in the first place! If you hadn't—" Rose cut off her sentence immediately as a pair of Death Eaters walked by, "—eaten all those Chocolate Frogs, you wouldn't have a stomachache," she finished hastily. The Death Eaters didn't seem to notice.

"Where do we go?" I whispered anxiously, "He could be anywhere."

"I have an idea!" Mr. Malfoy exclaimed in feigned enthusiasm, "How about we split up? You two go together and we'll meet back up later!"

Rose grabbed his arm and yanked him along as she walked, "Room of Requirement it is!"

We walked in the crowded corridors. I laughed and said, "Yeah, the Transfiguration homework was absurd!" No one looked their way.

Malfoy joined in on the act, "How was your Dark Arts homework? I had difficulty."

Rose nodded, "Yeah— Oof!"

She'd run into a large Death Eater. He had a wispy head of hair and a self-satisfied expression. "Is that so, Larson?" he asked, directing his question at Malfoy. "What was so difficult about the Dark Arts homework? I'm willing to help."

Malfoy was caught off guard and stuttered, "Oh— it was nothing— you don't need—"

The Death Eater grinned nastily, "I insist!"

"It wasn't exactly the homework he's confused about," Rose quickly cut in, "He thought it'd be helpful to include the origins of the Dark Mark in his essay! What about it truly signifies loyalty to the Dark Lord? Perhaps the snake for his House? And the skull as in cheating Death?"

The Death Eater pondered this for a minute and replied, "Interesting. I don't know myself and I have I never thought about it."

"We'll go look it up in the library!" I suggested. The Death Eater nodded his approval before walking away.

"That was close. Good thing we ran into one of the dumb ones," Malfoy whispered, "Come on."

Scorpius wasn't in the Room of Requirement but instead there was a shrine dedicated to Voldemort. As we were leaving, I suddenly heard screaming.

Someone ran down the hall, yelling, "Two fifth years have gone crazy! They're attacking everyone!"

People scrambled in the halls. Some ran towards the commotion while others ran away. We ran along with them and someone screamed, "There's an attack down in Hogsmeade! They've spotted some criminals!"

"Luna Lovegood and Ron Weasley have been sighted in Hogsmeade!" someone else shouted.

"Albus Potter is down there too!" a man yelled, brandishing his wand and running, "He blew up a bar!"

Rose and I exchanged a surprised look as we ran. Albus blew up a bar? We followed Malfoy into the dungeons.

He gave up all subtlety and shouted, "Scorpius! Scorpius!"

No one replied and Mr. Malfoy was in a frenzy. He didn't stop for Rose and I and ran up towards the Headmaster's office.

"Wait!" Rose panted.

"No time!" Malfoy shouted over his shoulder, "Granger and Longbottom will be found out soon enough and everyone else is down in Hogsmeade! Now is our chance!"

We finally caught up to him at the entrance to the office. He pounded on it, demanding to be let in, "I don't know the bloody password! Just let me in!"

Rose thought about it for a minute before saying, "Avada Kedavra!"

It was the correct password and we rushed into the office. No one else was in there except for one person. Scorpius.

He was chained to the floor with heavy shackles. His face was bloody and his clothes were mangled. A leg was bent at a weird angle and his hair was matted with blood. The cuts and scars were visible on his skin. A knife glinted red next to his leg.

"No," Malfoy whispered before rushing to him, "Scorpius!"

Scorpius squirmed slightly on the floor, "Dad?"

Malfoy knelt down beside his son and grabbed the knife. He starred at it in horror and then at Scorpius's blood that stained the ground.

Scorpius's eyes widened in fear at the knife. He thrashed wildly and screamed, "Please! Please! I don't know anything! No more! DON'T HURT ME!"

His father dropped the knife with tears streaming down his face, "I'd never hurt you, Scorpius. I'm so sorry—"

Scorpius sobbed desperately, "I want my Dad, I want to go home! I want it to end!"

Rose hid her face behind a curtain of blond hair. I felt my heart wrench and I knelt next to Mr. Malfoy. He silently raised his wand to clean his son's wounds, not trying to suppress his tears.

I took the knife and cut through the shackles. Rose helped Mr. Malfoy sit Scorpius up.

"How're we going to leave?" Rose panicked suddenly as if just remembering.

"The fireplace," Malfoy said, "The headmaster'a fireplace is the only one we can Floo with at Hogwarts! Hurry!"

We rushed to the fireplace, dragging Scorpius (who was half conscious) along. Mr. Malfoy threw some powder into the fireplace and called out our destination. The last thing I saw was Bellatrix's wild eyed face as she stepped into the office to find her prisoner gone.

"Lily!" my mother yelped and pulled me into a fierce hug.

"You're back!" Fred exclaimed. And then he saw Scorpius. He rushed out the door calling for his grandmother to come.

The adults rushed Scorpius to a bed and swarmed him.

"Uncle Ron!" I exclaimed, seeing a bright head of red, "You're back! Where's Albus?"

Ron pointed across the room. I hadn't noticed it before but it was occupied. Albus lay sound asleep on the bed, bandages wrapped around his chest.

I rushed to his side and cried, "What's wrong with him?"

"Don't worry," Hermione said as she joined me at his bedside, "He'll be alright."

I sighed in relief. I'd already lost my friends and cousins. And I'd lost my father and a brother. I wasn't ready to lose another.
