The Ranger's daughter - Part 3 - Aragorn x Reader

"Ada.........." (Y/n) called out again, as she ran into Estel's arms. She and her father laughing as the Ranger spun her around. The two holding one another close as he finally placed her back on her feet.

"I thought you weren't coming........."

"Have I missed any of your big days, little one? I would have travelled the length of Middle-earth if I had had to, to make sure that I was here for tomorrow......." Estel replied, as he combed his fingers carefully through her long hair.

Moments like this were what kept him going; kept him fighting. For even though she was not his daughter by blood, the two had shared an undeniable bond from the moment that he had saved her from the orc. A love deeper than even that which he and Arwen shared. A connection that meant he would do anything and everything he could, to not to break her heart.

He had never kept the fact that he was not her real father, from her. From the moment he knew that she would be able to understand, he had told her how he had found her; how he had saved her from becoming an orc's dinner, and how he had looked for her real family, her real parents, but to no avail. How when she had taken his finger in her tiny hand, he had known that the Valar had entrusted her to him. That even though they were not kin in the traditional sense, to him she was much his child, as any that had come from his own loins. (Y/n) always telling him that he was the best and bravest father that she could ever have wished for, and that she would always, always be proud to call herself his daughter.

"No, I know you haven't. But I was still worried. And when I heard Arwen had ridden out to find you, only to come back without you, and have your sick friend with her instead.........well, I wanted to ride out and meet you; but Elladan and Elrohir have been doing their best to keep me busy......." (Y/n) explained. The Ranger looking over her shoulder to the twin ellons; grateful that by their intervention, and their father's, that she had been kept from putting herself in danger. Estel aware that he would have to thank the pair later.

"Ada...........?" Estel humming in reply as (Y/n) slowly pulled away.

"Your friend.....the little man......he is a hobbit, isn't he? I didn't get to see him properly as Ada Elrond and Gandalf rushed him away but.........but I heard that he had been struck with a Morgul blade. That the Nazgul.........."

"You were eavesdropping........?" Estel interrupted, doing his best to look serious, which was hard given the innocent look she was giving him.

"Not......not eavesdropping.....not really. It was just that no one would tell me anything about what was going on, not even Arwen, other than I was not to worry about you. But how am I not to worry....And........."

"And............?" The Ranger interrupted again. His brows furrowing as (Y/n) placed her head on his shoulder.

"And......well, I had a dream a few nights ago. A dream about a pale dancing horse and four hobbits. You were there and you saved them from the shadows that followed them......that hunt them." The elleth began to explain, before looking up at him, once more.

"I am aware that I know little of the world that lies beyond the safety of Imladris. But I have spent enough time at Ada Elrond and Gandalf's knees, as well as in the library, to know that the Nazgul hunt for one thing; that one thing above all, calls to them........ The hobbit that was hurt, carries the One Ring. I heard it begin to speak, as soon as Arwen arrived home. It calls to any that will listen, looking for a weakness, a darkness in a heart and mind that is willing to open itself up and let the evil in. And I sense that both of our destinies lie with that hobbit......with that Ring........" She added, before Estel reached up and placed his hand on her cheek.

Long ago, Elrond had informed him that he believed that (Y/n) had the gift of foresight. That though it was not yet fully developed, she was improving all the time; and it would appear that she had seen him meeting the hobbits at the Prancing Pony in Bree. So, if she had seen that, he had little reason to doubt her when she said that both their destinies lay with Frodo. Not that he liked the idea of that; not that he savoured the notion of her perhaps coming into contact with the evil that for so long he had kept her from. The thought of her, of his little girl being harmed, or even killed, not one he wanted to contemplate. But he had a feeling that no matter what he said, if this was the time that the elven lord had spoken about; the time that he would leave Imladris with (Y/n) by his side, then he knew that nothing he could say or do, would dissuade her. The Ranger, for a moment wishing that she was still a small elleth that he could persuade to stay in the elven realm so that he would not have to fear for her, and not the tall, beautiful elf, with a strong mind of her own, that now stood before him. Estel not knowing what was to come, what the next few days would bring; but if things unfolded the way that (Y/n) believed, he would deal with it then. For now, there were happier times to think about, with her birthday on the morrow. The Ranger placing a kiss to her forehead, before offering her his arm and leading her back to the sons of Elrond.
