Beautiful and Home

[Longest chapter yet to make up for the 10 years I haven't updated]

~Riley~
"So, what do you want to do?" I ask Farkle as he closes the door behind him. He turns around with a massive grin on his face. "Why are you pulling that face?" I ask, skeptically.

"Today is going to be amazing I can just tell." His smile is contagious and I soon find myself grinning along with him. "Come on, let's go" he says excitedly and he doesn't let go of my hand as we race downstairs, giggling. "Okay, would you rather sit on the handlebars or seat?" He questions once we're outside and he grabs his bike.

"Uhh handlebars... I guess? Would that make it easier to ride?"

"Well, according to physics," a slight chuckle escapes my mouth at Farkle's love for science, "I'll be able to ride faster so we can reach our destination sooner and start our date."

"Our d-date? Why didn't you tell me this was a date? I would've-"

"Worn something else?" He finishes with raised eyebrows.

"Yes!" I shout, wide-eyed. "Or at least put effort into my outfit! This is a big deal Farkle."

"Honestly?" He smiles. "You could wear a trash bag with food stains on it and I'd still think you were the prettiest thing to exist. I'm just happy to spend time with you Riley, I don't want you worrying about what to wear for hours."

My facial expression softens at his cute response. "That's sweet, but still, you should have told me. Look at me, I'm a mess-" I say as I look down and gesture towards my outfit. "-and no, not a hot one, before you come up with a smooth, flirtatious remark."

"You're beautiful." He states, like its a known fact and I blush when he softly kisses my cheek. "Now, hop on." He nods his head towards the bike.

He doesn't tell me where we are going and I spend the first few minutes of the bike ride trying to pry the answer out of him. Eventually I give up and enjoy the ride. The gentle breeze tickled my face like a feather and brought with it the smell of freshly mown grass and tree blossoms. The sun was blazing from a cloudless sky and I couldn't help but grin and close my eyes as I appreciated nature during summer. Away from the busy roads, the atmosphere was silent. This made the sweet symphony of birds singing and rustling in the treetops the loudest sound that could be heard. Louder than the sound of the bicycle's tires crunching broken twigs and withered leaves. Louder than the sound of insects buzzing around aromatic flowers that emitted enchanting scents into the warm air.

I sense Farkle close behind me as he moves to hover over his seat, making his heartbeat the new loudest sound audible to me. I open my eyes as he speaks quietly, careful not to disturb the tranquility, "you having fun there?"

I smile wide. "Yeah, actually. It's so peaceful out here, away from all the commotion."

"Nature truly is entrancing, especially when you just stop to breathe and take it all in. You can hear yourself think for once."

"Exactly!" I turn my head so I can see him and he smiles at me. I start giggling and he kisses my cheek. I turn away blushing and roll my eyes when I can sense him smirking behind me.

"We're almost there." He breathes and he continues to cycle in silence as I close my eyes again.

A while later the air began to grow thick with the scent of sea salt and the gentle breeze grew a little stronger. "Are we going to the beach?" I ask. Just as I do I hear a murmur of people speaking in the distance. The sound gradually gets louder as we neared to the source.

"No," I open my eyes, confused as to why my prediction was wrong, "we're at the beach." We both hop off the bike. I look around to see charming little stalls scattered down the path. The atmosphere is calm as the beach is not particularly busy but not completely neglected either.

~Farkle~
I locked my bike by a bike rack and walked back to Riley, who was still in awe looking at her surroundings as she walked down the path to the beach. She probably didn't even notice me leave to put the bike away. I see someone selling ice cream nearby so I tap on Riley's shoulder from behind and run past her, knowing she'll chase after me.

"Wait! Farkle, where are you going?" She shouts after me.

I slow down to a walking pace to let her catch up to me. "Ice cream," I simply state gesturing towards the ice cream stand with a grin. Her face lights up when I ask her what she wants and I discover her favourite flavour is strawberry. We eat our ice cream and talk, getting to know each other even more as we stroll across the sugar white sand.

The conversation died down a while later and we continued to walk hand in hand in a comfortable silence. I watched as Riley admired the picturesque view of the vivid blue sea that stretched for miles. A small smile forms on my face when I think about how cute she looks.

"You know, you handled my father pretty well today." She speaks up and returns her focus to me.

I begin to laugh and she joins in too. "I was terrified." I exclaim wide eyed.

"Oh I could tell." She continues to laugh hysterically. "What did he say to you to make you fear for your life?"

"Well, I think it was more of the look he gave me once I stood up to him rather than what he actually said." I say still smiling after laughing so much.

"You did what?!" She raised her eyebrows. I snickered and explained what her father said and how I argued that I'd never want to hurt her.

"He called me a wise sneaky monster." I frown and she narrows her eyes trying to figure out what her father meant.

"I'm not sure whether that's a compliment or-"

I scrunch my nose and nod, "yeah I think I'll take it as a compliment, thanks." She laughs at my interruption.

She excitedly suggests looking around the stalls and she runs towards them, dragging me along with her. She wanders from stall to stall, pointing out anything she finds cute. A sweet, quirky stall catches my attention. Whilst Riley is ambling around, I examine the engraved bracelets the stall was selling. You could choose two colours for the strings and obviously request a word to be engraved on the metal part.

I hadn't noticed that Riley came up behind me until she spoke up, startling me. "What are you looking at?" She asks.

"Uhh- nothing." I rub the back of my neck.

She gasps and reaches for the bracelets I was interested in. "These are adorable!" She squeals.

"That's what I was looking at." I uttered under my breath.

"Why are you blushing about it?" She questions with a smirk and nudges me.

"I wasn't!" I deny and she laughs. "Ugh, lets just get these bracelets okay?" Defeated, I roll my eyes.

"Sure. What are we gonna engrave on them?"

"I know what I'm putting on yours." I state, smug. She looks at me as if to urge me to tell her. "Oh, I'm not telling." I let her know.

"What?" She frowns, "fine, be a child. I'm not telling what I'm putting on yours then either."

"Fine." I shrug and write down 'beautiful' using the paper and pen the jeweller gave us and handed it back to him.

"Wait you've actually thought of one already? I thought you were joking." She doubts. "That was quick."

"I just said what I think every time I look at you. There is no greater word to describe you than what I'm having engraved for you." I say with a smile.

"What word is it?"

"A word that's often overused. A word I thought had lost its meaning, until I met you."

"Aww now you're making me feel bad, I don't know what to write for yours." She blushes.

"Just write whatever comes to mind when you look at me or think of me." I shrug.

She grabs the pen and paper, "hot damn," she whispers as she pretends to write it down.

I chuckle, "do not write that," I say, shaking my head.

She laughs too. "But it's true!" I give her a joking glare. "Okay then, how about...flirt?"

~Riley~
"Riley!" He whines in a childish way.

"Okay, okay, I've got one." I say seriously. I used the time I spent joking to think of an accurate description of Farkle in one word. I write down 'home' on the piece of paper and hand it to the jeweller.

"What did you write?" I suppress a laugh at the way we've switched roles and how Farkle's now the curious impatient one.

"What comes to mind when I think about you." I tease and he smirks. We let the jeweller know which colour strings we wanted, I chose purple and white whilst Farkle chose black and white.

Once the jeweller is done engraving our words, he gives my bracelet to Farkle and Farkle's to me and we pay. We walk away from the stall to a bench by the beach. Farkle turns towards me with a sheepish smile nodding his head to my wrists, asking me to allow him to put the bracelet on. He gently wraps it around my wrist and ties it. "Beautiful," he whispers. The corners of my lips tug into an uncontrollable grin. "You're just as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. I never want to lose the meaning of that word and as long as I'm with you, I don't think I ever will." I rest my head on his shoulder.

"I love it." I say and he briefly rests his head on mine before asking to see his bracelet. I lift my head up and he gives me his wrist. "Home," I say putting it on him. He frowns in question so I begin to explain. "For the first time in a long time I feel happy and comfortable with who I am. You make me feel safe and-" I play with my bracelet, smiling, "-beautiful. For once it doesn't matter what people say about me and you make sure I know that. The first time we talked you made me feel better, I was crying and you made me laugh. If I feel down I know I can come to you because you're so welcoming and caring. You're my home." I shrug and give him a small smile.

He wraps his arm around me. "That is the sweetest thing anyone could every say. I'm glad I make you feel safe. Never be afraid to be who you are Riley." He smiles at me.

"I guess my dad was right, you are wise." He snickers at my comment. Just then it begins to rain, initially it seemed quite harmless. However, when the rain became a downpour and showed no sign of stopping any time soon, we took cover in a restaurant. Since we were both hungry, we decided to eat here whilst we sheltered from the rain. We both order burgers and milkshake. Laughing and joking about stupid things, we talk until the rain stops then Farkle chivalrously pays for our meal.

Whilst walking, I spot some segways for hire nearby and ask Farkle if he's ever ridden one before. Unfortunately he misinterpreted my question as a suggestion that we should ride them. "Farkle, I'm a klutz, I can barely walk without tripping or falling. What hope do I have on a segway?" I argue.

"You'll be fine, I'll teach you how to ride it before I get on mine. It'll be fun." He assures me.

"But I can't roller skate or ice skate or skateboard or basically do any activity with the word skate in it." I admit.

He smirks, "well it's a good job segway doesn't have the word skate in it then." I glare at him and he returns to being serious. "Trust me, it's more like riding a bike than any kind of skating. Except the wheels are thicker, at the sides and a different size. You've even got handlebars to keep you steady so you don't have to balance as much. These aren't like the new segways, you won't fall off that easily." I roll my eyes and huff, submitting to his persuasive argument.

We individually pay for our own segways which we hire for an hour. The first few minutes consisted of Farkle reassuring me that I'm not going to die and him walking by my side as I rode up and down the path. Once I was comfortable, Farkle got on his own segway and we leisurely rode around the beach until he challenged me to a race. It was obvious that Farkle would win because he was more experienced, so during the race I tried to distract him or push him to make him go off track; he had no issue in returning the favour once he realised I was sabotaging his chance of winning. Throughout the race we were struggling to breathe due to our constant laughing and by the end, we concluded there was no winner since neither of us played fairly.

~Farkle~
"That was so much fun." She breathes.

I raise my eyebrows, "I told you," I say, grinning. I check my phone for the time. "Whoa, it's later than I thought." She looks at me with a frown. "Okay you've got two options. Number one: we can head back now and I'll get you home before it gets dark. Or number two-"

"Number two," she interrupts, giving me a small smile, "I don't want this day to end."

I smile back. "Watching the sunset it is then." I take her hand and guide her on top of a few rocks where we can get a good view of the sunset. We sit down, take our shoes off and dangle our legs off the side. With waves crashing into the rocks below us, we could sense the cold water underneath our feet. I look at our intertwined fingers then study Riley's awestruck face as she appreciates the last orange rays of sunlight before the sun inevitably sinks behind the horizon. "You're really pretty," I let slip out.

She turns towards me with a massive grin then looks down sheepishly. "Thank you," she whispers, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She rests her head on my shoulder and I let go of her hand to wrap my arm around her.

We watched as the sky was intricately painted with orange, scarlet, crimson, and a purple which faded into a deep blue the higher you looked above the sea. The sun gradually fell like a sinking stone, taking the rainbow-coloured light along with it. Although the sun had gone and dusk was falling, there was still some heat left from the day and the beach glowed with a gentle warmth. "We really should go now," I whisper, tightening my arm around her before letting go. She lifts her head up, I stand up and put my shoes back on. Taking her hand to guide her down the rocks, I ensure that she doesn't fall.

"That was magnificent." She says as we walk towards where I left my bike.

"It was even better that I got to see it with you." I sincerely state as I unlock my bike and gesture for her to get on. She smiles and blushes adorably as she gets on the bike.

We travelled back in silence, tiredness creeping up on both of us. By the time we arrived at her home it was almost 9, I help her off the bike and walk her to the door.

"Today has been amazing."

"I called it," I smirk and wink causing her to let out a tired laugh.

She smiles, "I really enjoy spending time with you Farkle, thank you for today." She kisses my cheek and I smile back.

"Anytime. I'm glad you had fun. So I guess I'll see you at school?" I stupidly ask.

"Yeah, I'll see you at school," she smiles and opens the door, "goodnight Farkle."

"Sweet dreams." I say before I head downstairs, hearing her close the door.

A/N: Lucaya chapters are coming up, don't worry. I find lucaya easier to write anyways. I have to be in the mood to write corny, descriptive riarkle scenes so I thought I should get their date out of the way whilst I was still in the mood to.
Shoutout to anyone who's followed this story from the beginning-ish: you, my friend, are a very patient person. Thank you. You should honestly get an award for it.
