4. Evening

So a bit of a different kind of fan work, but Happywolfgamer1432 made this. I thought it was pretty cute.

Going through a portal when one is feeling queasy already is never a good idea. Alas, Grian did it anyway. He couldn't tell if sitting down through it made it better or worse, but regardless, he found himself clinging to the arm rest, tipped over the side as he swatted his other a hand over his mouth.

He was vaguely aware of how his wounds cried out, but he ignored them, closing his eyes as he focused on swallowing the warm yet putrid taste rising up his throat. It was only a few moments before he had to do it again, and then a third time. The acid nearly burned his throat and mouth, but at least he hadn't thrown up.

On his back he felt a gentle rub through it all. "Are you alright?" Mumbo asked after a minute. The portal had disoriented him too, it was nearly impossible not to, but it hadn't affected him anywhere near the point it had Grian.

It was then that Grian opened his eyes. The light of a clear blue sky nearly blinded him at first. "Y...yeah." He said, a bit unsure of himself but it wasn't a lie with the next line, "I think..." he couldn't help but shiver at the aftertaste in his mouth.

With that, his eyelids slid open for real this time, having had adjusted to the light. He found himself sunken in the sea, and even on an open platform with no walls, water did not move in. It felt uncomfortably familiar to him. The platform was a sort of diamond made of prismarine, much more pleasing to the eye than the grey walls from before. In the center of this platform was a sort of tower, and he recognized it as a Guardian farm. Mumbo must have built on top of an ocean monument, then.

A shrill ran along his spine wondering if the higher species would recognize him somehow. He couldn't think of how that was possible seeing as Guardians had seldom seen Watchers if ever; it was an irrational fear. As he watched one spawn only to be killed, he relaxed. Whatever ones saw him would die before they could do anything... so long as the farm was functional still. He tried to not think about what would happen if that was no longer true.

"It's not the most impressive build on the server," Mumbo admitted, rolling his eyes with a small grin, "but I'm proud of it. I didn't make a circle shape for once!"

Mumbo's voice was enough to snap Grian out of it. He hummed, finding little words to speak. "Can we... go inside?" He asked, looking up at the open sky. Any player could easily fly over it, especially if other players were friends with Mumbo.

"Oh!" Mumbo exclaimed, beginning to push Grian around again. "Yes, of course." He led him over to a platform that was hidden within the floor. He hit the button and in a few moments following, pistons began to fire, the floor lowering one block at a time. The ex-Watcher had never used an elevator before, but he had certainly seen them before. It was a type of redstone that most most players didn't bother with since they were unnecessarily hard to make when stairs took mere seconds to place. The way Grian saw it, it was a way for people to flex their redstone skills with little to no benefit. He never did quite understand the use for redstone personally.

Once the elevator made contact to the lower floor, Mumbo pushed the chair into the hall. Unlike the outside had been, this area was a highly decorated tunnel color coded with chests in each section. Grian had to admit, he would have been impressed if it wasn't for the combination of anxiety, fear and tiredness that plagued him.

"This is my item sorter." Mumbo explained as he walked along the tunnels. "I split it into sections based on the block type. I wasn't so sure about the design at first, but I'm actually really proud of it." He admitted. He went on to ramble on about each of his choices in detail. He voice was rather soothing, and the monotony of the subject matter calmed Grian just a bit. This fellow seemed to know just how to have that effect on him.

"It's... pretty good." Grian admitted after a minute, feeling a small crack of a smile appear on his face as he was brought to a stop. He watched as Mumbo came around into his vision with a pickaxe. He twirled it around his fingers before breaking into the wall just enough for them both to fit through. In doing so, a secret room was revealed.

Once they had both entered the room, Grian could see that it was little better than the room he had before. It had a desk in the corner with a chair, and a bed in another. Pictures lined the walls, but he was too tired to focus on them. Really, that wasn't all but now it seemed his tiredness was winning over his anxieties, his consciousness and everything else in that moment. He tried to keep his eyes open as Mumbo helped him into bed, but to his surprise, it wasn't too much longer until his needs won over his will to stay awake.

Once the sun began to touch down with the ground, Xisuma walked through his base. In his hands he held a mug of steaming hot coffee, the very scent tempting him enough to cause him to try a sip. He let out a sigh in satisfaction as he opened the door to his office; this had been his favorite flavor. It was necessary for his regular evening routine.

He set his mug down, placed his helmet (which had been pinched against his arm and his side) next to him, took a seat and got right to work opening his communicator. With a few taps, the small screen projected itself in the air in a much larger, readable format.

The first screen was always the same. It listed the name of every person currently in the world. Hackers were the exception; if they were smart they would make it so their name didn't show on the list and otherwise try and make their presence untraceable in the code of the world. Really, that was hacking 101; if they didn't know that, it was hard to believe that they could find their way into a server unharmed.

Xisuma skimmed the list as he always did. He has always figured that if there was a genuine threat, he certainly wouldn't find it there. He skimmed it so quickly that he nearly overlooked one name that stood out from the rest: Grian.

The void child drew a breath as he stared at that name. He knew that there were people who were whitelisted without being Hermits, but he was sure that he would have remembered this name.

How did he even get in here? If his name was shown, he couldn't have been smart enough to meticulously burrow his way all the way through the firewall. At the same time, there was no way someone could survive jumping through both of the walls; even one would be an impressive feat.

The only other way for this Grian character to get in would be to have a whitelisted person walk them in. However, who would be stupid enough to bring someone here without saying anything?

Xisuma tapped on Grian's name, opening his profile. The screen opened up all the data he needed about this mystery man.

User name: Grian
Whitelisted?: Yes [Mumbo_Guest]
Species: a̴̦̫̜̽n̶͉̽͂̍̆̽g̸̳̦͈͗̈ė̷̳̙̘̐͆̑͘̚l̵̨̝͉͉̦̎̉

There were other things listed as well, such stats on his health. That was was surprisingly low, which Xisuma guessed had to do with the firewall. Had this man seriously gone through the firewall and then convinced Mumbo to take him Hermitcraft without even saying anything?

X pushed his chair back, looking up at the ceiling as he rubbed his forehead, feeling a bit of a headache. Of course out of everyone on the server, Mumbo would do that. He understood where he was likely coming from, but still... That absolute spoon.

Coming back to the table, he refocused his eyes on the projection in front of him. He knew that this had to be addressed immediately, but also sensitively. With a click of a button, the projection shut off and he began to type out a message.

Fun fact: I nearly called this chapter The Greatest Spoon but I felt like that might've spoiled what happened.

Also, a long time ago, some of you suggested that Zed should be an angel because even though it didn't make sense, you wanted an angel. The truth was, I was already planning for Grian to be an angel (not by birth) since he's not exactly human or Watcher anymore.
