Chapter 12 - [Battles and Sacrifices]

The Raffyrian's had reached the border quickly but waited there until Lumyryn's small army reached them.

The aging king, who was on his horse at the front of the army, gave Lumyryn a smirk when they saw each other. "You look exactly the way they said you would look," the King said.

Lumyryn narrowed his eyes.

He and the King had never officially met until that very moment.

The King was fierce looking, but aging. The last time Lumyryn saw him was before he rescued Mina. And at that point his head already had a couple grey hairs on it. Now, most of his hair was grey and his face had wrinkles.

And Lumyryn couldn't understand why he continued to hunt his people. Even after all these years.

"If you want to prevent a massacre than I suggest you drop your weapons and surrender now," the King continued, "we don't want to waste our time."

Rodr had warned Lumyryn many times of the possibility of a Raffyrian invasion. Apparently, the leaders of Raffyre wanted the land that now belonged to Lumyryn and his people very badly. The only thing that stopped them before was the fact that it belonged to the powerful Destynians.

Now that it was Lumyryn's, Rodr warned that there was a chance the King would try and take it from him. He would convince his people that it was too get rid of the devilish red-eyes when in reality, it was simply to take their land.

Lumyryn never doubted what he said. He knew Rodr was probably right.

But he had hoped that it would take the King a lot of time to work up the nerve to attack them, especially since they were allied with the Destynians.

Unfortunately, that assumption was wrong, and here the King was, threatening them.

"This is our land," Lumyryn said, his voice deep and resonating loudly through the fields for everyone to hear, "it was given to us as a gift. We accepted that gift with open arms and made it our home. We will not give it to you."

"Land?" The King scoffed, "we don't want your land."

A lie, obviously. "Then what is it you want?"

"We want to bring justice to our people."

Lumyryn let out a short laugh, "and what exactly have we done for you to say something like that?"

The King hesitated, "you people are savages and barbarians!" The king spat, "you are the children of the devil and we will not let you thrive! We have allowed you to prosper long enough but any longer and it is clear that you will be a threat to our great nation–"

"We do not want anything to do with you and your nation." Lumyryn said, firmly, "leave us be and we will leave you be. That is all we ask."

"How can we allow people like you to continue to live?" The King questioned.

The soldiers behind Lumyryn had remained quiet until that moment. The burst into protest, shouting angrily at the words of the king.

"Evil!" The King shouted over them, "you all are–"

Lumyryn held his hand up, silencing his entire army with one move, surprising even that cruel king. "Listen here," Lumyryn started as he stepped forward, away from his army, "I will not stand by and just allow you to speak so harshly of my people."

"Harshly?" The King scoffed, "that's hardly the case. What I say is the truth–"

"Then if you are truly the righteous and good-hearted King you try to make yourself to be then come here," Lumyryn started walking forward, his axe over his shoulder, "come down off your horse and face me like a man. Look into my eyes, the eyes you fear so much, and tell me exactly what you think of me."

The King hesitated and some of his higher-ranking guards stepped in front of him and his horse defensively as Lumyryn approached.

"Come on now," Lumyryn smirked, "are you afraid? You came here with a thousand soldiers and talk big but you are too afraid to fight me yourself?"

"Silence, you dead man," the King hissed.

"Then come down here," Lumyryn stopped walking and held his free hand out, "and face me head on. Leader against leader. There is no need for all our soldiers to die over your foolish opinions."

"I have no need to bring myself down to your level."

Lumyryn's smirk grew, "well, you were right about one thing. Waiting so long to attack was truly a horrible idea. A couple years gave me more than enough time to master this gift that you seem to believe was sent to me from the devil."

And just as Lumyryn finished his sentence, his eyes closed and a red and black glow began forming around him.

Just the sight of the dark light was enough to knock the breath out of every man in the Raffyrian army. The red eyes however, all started to grin.

Lumyryn had easily mastered his gift. It was the gift of an unbelievable strength that allowed him to protect the people he loved.

And on top of mastering it, he began to teach it to his people. And since no one was able to grasp it as well as Lumyryn could, the sight of their leader's talents made them all stare in awe.

When Lumyryn's eyes opened, the whites of his eyes were black and the King's pulled his horse back a couple steps in fear, "devil's magic!" The King shouted.

Lumyryn scowled as he pointed his axe at the King and everyone in the Raffyrian's army who could actually see him started to retreat slowly.

Then, Lumyryn lifted his axe with one hand and in one, swift swing, he sliced through the air and deep into the ground in front of him.

The ground shook violently as a white light beamed out of the axe, blinding those who looked for a moment.

And when their sight returned, the King's startled horse reared back, knocking the king off of it and inches away from the mile long fissure that appeared to the left of him.

The knights of the King grabbed him, lifting him to his feet and gasping at the power they had just seen.

"Leave," Lumyryn's deep voice roared, "before I rip another hole into the ground and send you straight to the devil who frightens you so much."

Everyone was retreating as fast as they could.

"What you have witnessed is only a miniscule piece of what I am truly capable of, my King," Lumyryn said, "challenge me and threaten my people once more and I will give everything I have to bring you down."

And they were off.

Running with their tails between their legs.

The dark glow faded as Lumyryn's people began to cheer for him.

"Lumyryn," Khi called as he ran up to him. The young man put a hand on his shoulder, beaming, "that was magnificent! Not a single drop of blood was shed!"

Mina joined the two. "You are truly remarkable, my love," she said, hugging her husband.

Lumyryn kissed her head before turning back to Khi, "I believe they will be back eventually," he said, "and from this day forth, we must make sure we are prepared for such a situation."

Khi nodded and then winked, "but for now, let's just celebrate your greatness, shall we?"

As Lumyryn had suggested, the day after the evasion of a war, the people of his nation began to do everything they could possibly do to be prepared for a second attack.

The first thing that was done to protect his people was the building of that famous wall. With the help of the Destynians, a strong and massive wall was erected around the nation as a form of protection for the people who couldn't fight.

Furthermore, if they desired to do so, the youth were sent to begin to learn how to utilize their gifts to the best of their ability. Unsurprisingly, both boys and girls of every age wanted to start to learn.

The news of what Lumyryn did was passing along quite quickly and everyone almost immediately began to admire him even more than the ever had before. Both boys and girls wanted to be just like him.

It was unheard of for one man to scare an entire army away.

Not until that day.

He became even more of a legend than he already was.

A man who was both feared and loved.

That title went on for years and though, as expected, the Raffyrian King attacked again and again, convincing his people that the red-eyes wielded some sort of evil. And Lumyryn fought him off again and again, using his gift despite what the foreigners believed.

He was truly a force to reckon with.

In the years that went by, Lumyryn and Mina had three more children. A total of five beautiful children, two girls and three boys.

All their children grew up to be exactly like their father, both noble and strong. But it was their first child, a son, and their second child, a daughter, that took after him the most.

Their eldest son, Aryn, was meant to be Lumyryn's successor and though his younger sister, Ryna seemed to surpass him in both skill and talent, Aryn wasn't the type to get upset over it. He was open to asking anyone for help, including his younger sisters and brothers. And this was probably one of the reasons people liked him so much.

Juna and Jol spent the rest of their years with Lumyryn and their grandchildren. They were happy and died peacefully of old age, and though Lumyryn mourned greatly after their death, he knew that he had to keep moving forward, and that they would never truly be gone since they lived on in him.

As Lumyryn continued to spend a lot of his time training the youth in what became to be known as their gifts among their people, Mina also spent her time training young girls and boys. But she trained them in dancing and singing.

She was known as the best dancer and the best singer in their nation and almost all the girls and a few boys wanted more than anything to learn from her.

So as the years went on, the family was kept busy.

However, though they were busy, they were still very happy.

The first thing Lumyryn felt every morning was a nudge and then a kiss on his cheek. This day was no different. "Wake up." He heard his wife say softly.

Lumyryn, who was sleeping on his front, turned his head around and made Mina groan. "It's time to wake up, my love," she said, "we have a busy day ahead of us."

They did.

Today was the anniversary of the creation of their nation. It was going to be a busy day indeed. An enjoyable day, of course, but still a busy one.

"Your children are already up and working."

Lumyryn sighed. He turned himself around and grabbed a hold of Mina, hugging her tightly and ruining her braided hair. Though she fussed and tried to pull away, she couldn't hold back her laugh as Lumyryn tickled her neck with the stubble on his cheek.

Once Lumyryn was out of his bed and ready to work, he and his people went on to spend the entire day celebrating the anniversary of the creation of their country.

It started off with games, contests, performances and spectacular fun. Then it ended off with a remarkable speech from the leader himself and then a wonderful fireworks show.

Once the day was over, all the people returned to their homes to get a good nights rest while Lumyryn and his court members made their way to the courtroom of the main mansion to finish off the days work.

Lumyryn always had busy days since he was a leader. But all of that days work had to be pushed to the evening after the celebration, instead of having it done throughout the day.

So Lumyryn tried his best to stay awake as one of his court members read a list of things that need to be done over the month in order to ensure the happiness of his people.

Like building more bridges over the river to allow for easy access.

And opening up more markets.

And creating a safer pathway up the mountains.

As Lumyryn considered all of these reasonable requests, he was surprised to see his eldest son rush into the room, "Aryn," Lumyryn said, "you should go to sleep now, son–"

"Father, bad news."

Lumyryn hesitated and Mina, who was sitting by his side tensed up.

"They're back," Aryn said with a look of sorrow, "again."

Lumyryn let out an annoyed breath, "today of all days."

"Uncle Khi and Lumynos have both already started to mobilize the soldiers," Aryn continued, "they are awaiting your command."

"What is the size of their army?"

"I can't say... just... very big. Bigger than it's ever been," Aryn said, "Uncle Khi and Lumynos both ask for you to hurry. As we were distracted with out celebration, they have come very near to the walls."

Lumyryn stood up and turned to Mina, "take my place, Mina. Order the immediate evacuation and contact Des–"

A large boom cut Lumyryn off as the entire mansion shook for a moment.

Lumyryn looked over at his son as Mina stood up.

Suddenly, another boom resonated through the building.

"Hurry!" Lumyryn said to his wife before he retrieved his axe ran as fast as he could towards his army.

As soon as the first attack on the wall was heard, both Khi and Lumynos ordered for the army to begin marching out, without Lumyryn's consent.

When Lumyryn left the mansion with all of his warriors and joined the army, he rushed ahead with Khi towards the wall.

But just as they arrived, the main gates exploded, fire everywhere, and the Raffyrian soldiers stormed into the nation.

Lumyryn let out a breath, "no!"

There were thousands and thousands of Raffyrian soldiers pouring in through the gate and Lumyryn knew that he had to hurry.

He turned to his soldiers, "don't hold back!" He yelled to the red-eyed men and women that stood with him, "fight them off! Use your gifts to the fullest capacity! We cannot allow them to harm a single innocent life!"

The soldiers saluted their leader before Lumyryn ordered them to charge.

Mina headed the evacuation, trying to get as many of the defenseless red-eyes to the shelter built up in the mountain. So long as Lumyryn and the army held back the Raffyrians, the people in the mountains would be safe.

Suddenly, another explosion shook the lands hard enough to knock Mina and a few others off their feet. Mina rose quickly though and looked down from the mountain only to see the front gates burning to the ground along with some of the homes found near the entrance.

Mina let out a breath, "no..."

She turned quickly to her youngest daughter Vrya, who was helping her evacuate the people, "I need you to take over for me, love."

Vrya looked at her mother in surprise, "where are you going?"

"I need to go help your father," she said, "I know you can handle this, Vrya, please be careful."

Before Vrya could say anything to her mother, Mina lifted her dress and began to run.

But suddenly, she was stopped by Sheelah, "I'm coming too!"

Mina hesitated, "but–"

"I can fight too," Sheelah said, "let me come, they need everyone down there."

Mina hesitated for another moment before nodding, "all right. But I need to stop by the mansion, I need my sword."

The fighting lasted all night and though Lumyryn could have massacred the entire army, he held himself back. He'd rather rip apart that King then destroy the lives of countless people. Some of them probably fighting simply because they had to.

Unfortunately, the King was nowhere to be seen.

At least, not until the moon began to set and the sun began to rise.

The King of Raffyre finally showed himself to Lumyryn.

"You coward!" Lumyryn hissed when he finally spotted the very old King, "hiding yourself for all this time!"

The King just smirked and looked over at the younger man sitting on a horse next to him. From their previous battles, Lumyryn had discovered that this young man was his son. The future King.

He was just as bad as his father.

He motioned his horse forward and he too now went into battle.

"Lumyryn!" Khi called as he ran towards him through the battlefield.

"What is it?" Lumyryn pushed back another knight before turning to face his friend.

"I have gotten the news that the Destynians have officially declared war on Raffyre. They are marching towards us to aid us."

Lumyryn nodded. That was good news.

And just then, there was a scream.

Lumyryn turned around, having heard the scream despite the loud sound of burning and the shouts of soldiers and the high-pitched beams of the gifts of his people and sounds of swords clanging against each other.

"What's wrong?" Khi asked.

"A child," Lumyryn started to run as he said it.

He ran through the battlefield, axe over his shoulder, trying to find the child whose scream he heard, and when he finally found her, she was in the clutches of the King's son.

The young man turned and looked at him, "I guess I found her first?"

"Step away from her."

The little red-eyed girl tried to run, but the prince held tightly onto her wrist. He then pulled her close and held a knife at her neck.

Lumyryn knew this child. Her father, a soldier, died in a previous battle when she was young and her mother was fighting alongside Lumyryn in this battle.

"My father gave me orders to kill every red-eyed person I see," the prince said with a cold smile, "this child is no exception."

"Leave her be!" Lumyryn's voice was loud, making some soldiers stop their fighting and turn to face him.

Lumynos was among the crowd and he glared angrily at the prince.

Lumyryn was about to run, to grab her as fast as he could and knock down the prince in the process.

But just before he could, Lumynos shouted angrily and ran towards the prince.

The prince, who had clearly focused his attention onto Lumyryn, didn't notice Lumynos until the knife cut through his arm, making him step away from the girl.

Lumyryn was about to smile but it faded instantly and he started to shout and run towards them, telling Lumynos to move.

And just as Lumynos jumped in front of the girl to protect her, the prince ran his sword through the young man's chest.

Lumyryn didn't stop running. He pushed the prince aside, knocking him to the ground but allowing the other red-eyes grab him and restrain him.

Lumyryn grabbed him before he fell to the ground, "Lumynos!" He shouted.

The young man started to cough out blood. It was obvious that the prince's stab penetrated his heart.

Lumyryn touched his face, "Lumynos, look at me–"

"I'm sorry–"

"Don't apologize, foolish boy," Lumyryn said, forcing out a smile, "you did well. You saved her."

Sheelah's scream could be heard as she ran towards them, almost as if she felt the injury as well from where she was standing before. When she reached the two, she collapsed onto her knees and held her son's face with both her hands, "Lumynos!"

"It's okay," Lumynos smiled at his mother, "I'm fine."

He wasn't.

Everyone knew that.

If the stab were anywhere else, he would have been okay. But this went through his heart.

"Lumynos!" Marv shouted as he, Mina and Khi joined them. Mina got down next to Lumyryn, holding his arm and crying heavily at the sight of Lumynos while Khi stood angrily behind him. Marv collapsed onto his knees almost immediately, "oh god, son."

"Oh, I'm so proud of you, my love," Sheelah kissed his forehead, "you risked your life to save the little girl, I'm so proud of you. What a noble son I've raised."

Lumynos smiled, reminding Lumyryn of how he would beam as a child whenever his mother complimented him.

"Thank you, mother," his eyes flickered to his teary father, "and father."

She kissed his head again, trying not to cry as Marv grabbed his hand.

Lumynos looked at Lumyryn, "we have to... stop... the Raffyrian."

"We will, son. I promise."

"Good," Lumynos smiled, "I... trust you."

And seconds after that, the fire in his red eyes faded.

Lumyryn sat there for a moment, his heart racing in agony.

Lumynos may have been a young man... but in his eyes, he was still a child. The first child that joined them from the very beginning.

He was grinding his teeth together.

After all these years... and all these problems... this was the first time he lost someone so dear to him.

And this would be the last.

Lumyryn stood up, picking up his axe and turning around to face the restrained prince. The battle still raged on in front of him and Lumyryn had had enough. This would end here.

Now.

He shouted loudly as he smashed his axe into the ground. A beam of light shot from it and ran through the battlefield, avoiding the allies and only hitting the enemies.

As soon as the light faded, every man that attacked his people and his friends collapsed to the ground, including the prince that stood in front of him.

Only the King, along with some of his personal knights remained.

While everyone stared in awe, Lumyryn vanished.

When he reappeared again, he was standing right in front of the King. He grabbed the King by the neck and pulled him closer, "stop this, now!" His voice came out as a growl.

"No," was the King's response, "we will not stop until every single one of you are wiped out. You can kill me, but my sons will come after you. And so will their sons."

"I just murdered every single one of your soldiers," Lumyryn growled, "and if you keep this up, you will have none left to attack my people–"

"And I will come back, even if it's alone. I will not stop until you all are dead–"

Lumyryn let go of the king and knocked him to the ground, "What is wrong with you?"

"Unless," the King suddenly continued, "unless you sacrifice yourself."

Lumyryn hesitated, "what?"

"Sacrifice yourself. To be honest, it's only you that I want dead. If you die then I will stop pursuing your people."

"This is why you have been doing this? Because you want me dead?" Lumyryn looked infuriated.

The King stood up, "take a day to consider it. When you are ready, come to my castle."

"I could kill you right now–"

"But my son would come after you the same way I did."

"Your son is dead." Lumyryn said, gesturing at where the prince was standing before.

The King hesitated, but then narrowed his eyes. "I have more than one son," he said, coldly, "if you want this to end once and for all, the do what I say."

And with that, Lumyryn let the King walk off, get on his horse and ride away, leaving the bodies of thousands of soldiers behind.

Lumyryn stood there for a moment before he let out a breath and turned around. He looked across the field and saw Sheelah, Marv, Mina and Khi along with a few others mourning the death of Lumynos. Lumyryn joined them, standing there quietly for a while.

"We... have to stop this," Sheelah said through her tears, "did we work so hard to create a nation so that we would be at war all the time?"

Lumyryn looked at her as she held her son in her arms.

She was right.

He let out a breath. "His death will not be a waste," he said, firmly, "I promise you, Sheelah."

----

Days had passed and Lumyryn sat in the courtroom with his court members, his family, and many other red eyes. He hadn't discussed what the king had said to him with anyone yet. He didn't know what to think.

Could he ever trust such a man?

How could Lumyryn be certain that once he was gone, the King would truly leave his people alone?

But would it really be worth it to allow the people he loved to have to suffer continuously simply because of this doubt?

Should he take the risk?

Lumyryn wanted to avoid bringing the topic up until he was fairly certain of a proper conclusion. But at that moment he thought maybe it would be wise to ask for the advice of his trusted friends. Maybe there was something they could do. Some way to ensure peace.

However, that day in the courtroom, the persistence of the King was made clear.

The messenger of Raffyre trembled as the red-eyed warriors held onto his arms tightly. No one could blame him though. Many, many red-eyed people stood there, staring at him.

"You have nothing to fear," Lumyryn said, leaning against one arm of his seat.

Many of the others didn't agree with him. They would do anything to get their revenge on the Raffyrian. Even if it meant killing a measly messenger.

But no one would disobey Lumyryn, "what is it you have to say?"

The man hesitated for only a moment longer before he spoke. "Our King has accepted your request for a truce and for the permanent cease of conflict."

Relief suddenly filled the faces of many, but Lumyryn knew the condition already, so he just watched the messenger, "continue."

The booming voice of Lumyryn made the messenger jump, "on one condition," he added, "our King asked me to remind you that this will only happen so long as you sacrifice yourself."

Lumyryn's eyes narrowed and the hall silenced.

"Our King believes you must be punished for what you have done. You killed the Prince, after all. But he agrees to cease his attack on your people so long as you sacrifice your life to pay for his sons."

Mina looked at her husband, "that is ridiculous," she looked back at the messenger, "tell your King that the life of our Lumynos is a greater loss than that of your despicable prince!"

"If you disagree to this," the messenger continued, "our King stated that he will order an immediate and continuous attack on this land until every single red eyed man and woman and child are killed. He fears not the Destynians and will not hesitate."

Lumyryn swallowed back his anger but blinked slowly, "tell him we agree."

The hall erupted into chaos as the messengers eyes widened. But when Lumyryn said no more, the messenger turned and left as quickly as possible.

"Lumyryn!" Mina grabbed his hand, "you cannot–"

"It needs to be done."

"You cannot trust them!" Marv said, "it's a trap! They will kill you and then attack anyways! That King is a villain–"

"That won't happen," Lumyryn said, "I can assure you–"

"How?" Khi looked devastated, "you can't expect us to believe that–"

"Trust me," Lumyryn said, loudly, silencing everyone in the hall.

Everyone stood there, staring at their leader.

"Do you trust me?"

"Of course..." Khi said, "but..."

Lumyryn stood up, "then we leave tomorrow morning."

The hall broke out into shock and tears and horror as Lumyryn left the room. But he said not another word.

He had made up his mind.

Mina had cried all night. She was infuriated with her husband but refused to let go of him, knowing that he would be gone soon now that he made up his mind. And when morning came, the news of what Lumyryn was doing had passed through the entire nation and everyone was lined up outside his mansion, hoping to stop him.

But he could not be stopped.

A couple people were supposed to come with him, including Marv, Khi and Lumyryn's eldest son. But Sheelah forced Lumyryn to let her come too, as did Mina.

The crowds were mostly silent, already mourning the loss of their leader, knowing well that he would most definitely go ahead and sacrifice himself for them. So when he stabbed his axe into the ground, intending on leaving it behind, everyone looked at him.

"My people," Lumyryn said with a smile, "a few days ago we were attacked by the Raffyrian and lost many of our loved ones... of course, we all know that we have been facing this problem for years and years now. And one of the men that died was our beloved Lumynos. What is important is that he did not die fighting a soldier or using his gift. He died protecting the innocent."

Sheelah started to cry almost instantly.

"I promised Sheelah, one of my best friends and the mother of this young man, that his death will got go in vain. And I intend on keeping that promise," Lumyryn's face hardened a little bit, "Lumynos died as the image of what we must thrive to be. What we must forever, continue to be. We must fight to protect those we love and use this gift that we have been given to save the innocent from the cruelty of people who do not understand. We must never forget what Lumynos died for... what all of your loved ones died for. And thus on his behalf, I have decided that from this day forth, to honor and remember what we stand for as a people... our family will be called the Lumynos."

People started to get on their knees and bow.

"Some of us never had a family before this, some of us were abandoned, and some of us had good lives prior to this. But we are in this together now, and as of now, I will be Lumyryn of the Lumynos clan... as all of you will be too," Lumyryn bowed his head slightly, "we are a family now, and let our connection be brought through by the red in our eyes and the name of an honorable young man."

Sheelah got on her knees too, bowing low as she cried until Lumyryn bent over and helped her get up, "Sheelah, you are one of the strongest women I know and I need you to stay strong, please," Lumyryn said with his gentle smile, "for me."

Sheelah watched him for a moment before wiping her tears and nodding her head.

Lumyryn hugged her tightly before looking back at the people who surrounded him, "today, as you all might have heard, I will finally put an end to these pointless conflicts. I swear to you all that this will be the end. The Raffyrian's will never dare to attack us again. And all I ask is that when I'm gone, you remember what we stand for. We shall grow to be as prosperous as the Destynians are and it will take time, but I have faith that we can do it."

His people remained on their knees.

And then Lumyryn too bowed low, "I thank you all for everything you have done for me and for each other."

Many started to cry again as Lumyryn raised himself and said his goodbyes to the children of his that he had to leave behind. The crying and mourning grew even louder when he got onto his horse and began to make his way out of his nation.

The trip to the Raffyrian capital was a quiet, sad one. The small group that joined Lumyryn rode in silence, not really knowing what to say.

And when they arrived at the Raffyrian Castle, they were led to the throne room where the King sat. However, surrounding them were at least a hundred archers with loaded bows and standing next to the King was a sorceress.

Lumyryn had suspected this.

And so he smiled, "it won't work," Lumyryn said.

The King raised an eyebrow, "what won't?"

Lumyryn jerked his chin at the sorceress. "I had a feeling you would do something like this."

Now the old man narrowed his eyes, "any last words?"

Lumyryn could hear the small group that joined him, including his wife, start to protest.

"I simply ask that you keep your word," Lumyryn said, "because if you don't, my people will destroy yours."

Almost immediately after Lumyryn finished speaking, the archers released their arrows.

A hundred arrows pierced through the skin of Lumyryn as his friends and family behind him began to scream.

The sorceress started to use her enchantment and Lumyryn used the last of his strength to release his gift, just as he felt his wife's hands touch him.

And though he was so far away, he could see it.

With his last breath, he could see his people huddled around his axe, praying on their knees.

He could see his gift reach them all... and the moment it did, they cried tears of blood.

----

Meenu's eyes fluttered open, her eyes filled with tears. But when her eyes cleared, she saw a shining light.

Lumyryn was sitting beside her, glowing.

"Why did you scatter your gift?" Meenu asked as she looked at him.

Light, who was sitting on the other side of her, looked up, "Meenu?"

The King had intended on capturing my soul and my gift upon my death, putting it into this ring and using the power I had to destroy my people, Lumyryn said, however, I saw it coming and stopped him scattering my soul into my people, making them all even stronger than they already were.

"So you saved them."

Lumyryn smiled, he did succeed in capturing my soul though, and a tiny fragment of my power, which he preceded to trap in this ring. However, it wasn't close to enough to attack my people. And thus, he never attacked again, knowing well that it would be the same as suicide.

Meenu nodded, "I see."

Light started to shake her, "are you alright, Meenu?"

Now that you have allowed yourself to trust me, it will be easier for the two of us to make contact. Lumyryn said, so for now, I will leave you be. Your friend must be worried, too.

Meenu nodded, surprised at how tired she was though she had spent god knows how long sleeping.

And with that, Lumyryn disappeared, leaving her to explain to Light that she was just fine.
