Chapter Eleven
Okay, I am trying to update as much as possible. So, I will start with this story since it is the one that hasn't been updated as much. Here we go, my lovely readers!
Chapter Eleven: Reconnaissance
Point of View: Third Person
"Do we even know who we are fighting?" Annabeth sounds bored.
"Yes and no." Percy answers, trying to keep the annoyance out of his voice.
"What does that mean?" Jason asks.
"James, would you like to explain the obvious to the know it all immortals in the room?" Percy sighs and puts his head down on the table.
Derek laughs along with James. "I'll do it." Derek chuckles. "Oceanus was at the head of the attack earlier. It seems to me that we will definitely be dealing with Titans in this war, whether Kronos has risen again or not."
"My question is, are there any spies among us?" Hannah speaks.
"That is a brilliant question, but there is no way of knowing lest we probe the minds of the over six hundred demigods." Percy says, making Hannah beam excitedly.
"Couldn't the gods do that?" Haley, the head counselor of the Iris cabin, wonders.
"Hera would be best, yes, however, I do not think people would jump at the chance of a goddess sifting through their whole entire life trying to find something. It would also give Hera an advantage over everyone, not the best position to be in as a demigod. No offense, Lady Hera." Percy tells Haley.
Hera laughs softly. "None taken. I still hold a small portion of your life as well as Jason's. You were particularly enraged at me most of all after the war."
"Indeed I was." Percy agrees.
"So, what do we do?" James asks.
"Child of Arachne," Percy calls the young boy's attention, causing the boy to walk over to Percy. "Your name is Evan, correct?"
"Yes," He hisses, smiling hugely. "It is. Thank you for being kind enough to remember."
"It is the least I could do for you and all the children here. What whispers have you heard since before you turned human? Anything of importance?" Percy replies, sitting up and looking at Evan.
"Not much, but there are a few small details you may consider significant. Atlas has been released and is looking for Artemis once more. Kronos is still scattered as far as any of my brothers and sisters and I know. Also, the only demigods other than those who haven't ben found by stayrs yet are all here. We have no intel on any traitors of the gods other than possibly one or two minor gods depending if they have accepted the final offers. Whoever leads the war front is very powerful. Spiders do not like him all too well whoever he may be." Evan informs everyone in the room.
"And you didn't think to tell us before?!" Annabeth screeches.
"Quiet, child." Percy snaps at her and she settles down. Percy smiles gratefully at Evan who's lips are pursed. "Evan, I appreciate you spoke up at all around those who might still despise you. How do you know that our enemy's leader is a he? Can you describe him? His looks, his smell, his voice? Anything in even the smallest amount may help me point us in the right direction of whoever we may be facing. Where was he last you heard?"
Evan thinks about it and then sighs. "I myself was not really there and didn't get the full volume of it and my sister didn't wish to describe him at that moment in time."
"Will you ease get her for me?" Percy asks politely.
Evan nods and is back with a smaller girl, older but short for her age. "H-hi." She waves a little.
"Don't be shy. I won't harm you." Percy tells her. She comes over. "What is your name, child?"
"Mayla." The girl mumbles.
"Orignal. Did Lady Arachne name you?" Percy responds kindly and the girl grins, scooting closer to Percy and liking he is so nice to her.
Mayla nods. "Mhmm. Mom always names every one of us."
"That is a lot of children to name. It is a talent to be certain." Percy says, making Mayla and Evan laugh. "I have a request you may not like Mayla. Is it okay if I ask it of you?"
Mayla shrugs. "I guess. What do you want?"
"Your brother, Evan, says that you have come into contact with the head of the enemy mind. Can you share the details of your encounter with me?" Percy elucidates.
Mayla nods slowly. "I'll try." She murmurs. "I got a good look at him, but even in all my spider years, I had never come across anything like that man. I mean, mom tells us stories through the web that connects us all, but in all the myths and lessons she has given us, nothing quite fits him. Not that I have heard anyway. She doesn;t know everything because she stays in one place, but it is enough for us to be safe out in the world."
"Until someone smashes you under boot." Piper mutters from the back.
"Piper, would you please leave the Big House before I break your neck?" Percy says nicely, a genuine looking smile his expression. Piper shivers in fear and hurries out of the room. "Please continue, Mayla."
"Right." Mayla says. "The man was really tall, his skin was like black. like really black. I couldn't see colors until now, so for it to be that dark to my old eyes, it must have been pitch black. Spiders don't have good eyesight in general. He's heavy too, he shakes the ground far too much to go undetected. At least a good twenty feet or more. He clanked too, wearing very heavy armor. His voice was grating, chilling, filled with malice, hate, and venom. The presence he radiated screamed pain, revenge, darkness, anger. He smelled like evil, if that helps at all. There is no other word for it.
I saw him in an abandoned caving system near the border of the state of New York. It's no wonder the system is abandoned, the place reeks of danger no one is willing to go near. It is very recently...dug into though. They dug through a collapsed entrance. Monsters fill the huge undrground system and expand it to hold more forces. Holing up as close to Olympus as they can get."
Percy sighs and rubs his temples. "Lovely." He grumbles.
"We may be no children of Hermes, but there is no one more suitable for information gathering. My siblings and I can gather intelligence for you." Evan speaks up.
Percy raises an eyebrow, studying the two children of Arachne who actually look very determined. Percy realizes they want to prove themselves and show that Arachne is a good goddess to be born to. "Very well. How will you do this?"
"We may not retain our spider forms, but with mother renewing spiders all across the globe, we can influence them to crep around. We can cling to the shadows just as well as they can, even in our human forms. Not to mention we still have the scent and the presence of spiders, children and legacies of Arachne." Evan explains.
"Alright, then. But only a few of you, I will not lose a single one if I can help it. Stay safe." Percy dismisses them.
Their eyes twinkle and they run off.
"I believe it wise to convene again once heir group has returned. There is nothing else to discuss.' Percy announces.
"Like Hades there isn't." Annabeth snaps. "You just let the enemy run off to join their friends."
Percy slams the table into the wall and turns on Annabeth. "Look, Athenian, if you have a problem with it, go cry to Athena. I don't have time for those who bitch and complain about every little detail. Those are children, just like you. They want the chance to show the others what they are made of, just like you do. It is their turn to fight. Just because you don't like Arachne, or her children, doesn't mean you take it out on them. Keep it to yourself or go cry a river somewhere else. We don't need conflict within our own ranks. That is the last thing we need. I will sew your mouth shut permanently if you keep up your insults."
"Then let me go with them." Annabeth puts her hands on her hips.
"You do realize as an immortal you cannot do anything but fight the leader of the enemy? Or have you forgotten with all that intelligence you supposedly have?" Percy questions.
"Now you're insulting me!" Annabeth steams.
"Yes, yes I am. It does not affect the demigods. It does not affect me. It gives you the taste of your own medicine. Now, go somewhere you can be useful or sulk in a corner. I don't care as long as you don't cause anxiety among the demigods." Percy says calmly.
Annabeth screams in frustration and storms out of the building.
Right, so, I will be updating later. Which means tomorrow, hopefully. See ya'll soon, my lovely readers!
