Chapter 7: Base 10 Jump City
A/N: Thank you, faithful readers, for hanging in there. If you have ANY suggestions, please message me or comment. I shun no one. #1 rule of Ashley: Be nice to everyone, because everyone has a soul and feelings just like everyone else.
Robin's POV
I got up out of bed at Base 1. It was the third day here. I noticed Star was already gone, her side of the bed made up. I thought the orientation yesterday helped more than the tour. I didn't realize so many operations went on here. I would take a vote from the team, and then we would likely join. I found four notes taped to the wall by my door. Each one said 'yes' on them. I smiled and reached into my pocket for the communicator. Just as my fingers found it, there was a knock at the door. I opened the door.
"Bruce! Hey. Come in. Only Starfire is awake right now besides me. You know, she gets up before the sun and watches the sunrise." I stepped out of the way. Bruce wasn't wearing his Batman uniform. He was actually wearing semi-casual clothes. He walked in just as Star put breakfast on the end table by the sofa. She had arranged it on a tray, including plates and silverware. It was a 'serve-yourself' affair.
"I discovered a book of recipes and made the cake of pan with bacon made of tofu and Cyborg's favored flesh of pig," Star said proudly. "I shall prepare a plate for us." Star flew back to the end table and made plates for Bruce, herself, and me.
"Er, thank you, Koriand'r." Bruce said, taking his plate.
"I welcome you. Please, call me Starfire." Star gave me my plate.
"Thanks, Star." I said. She nodded and motioned to the couch. We sat on the couch to eat, and when we finished, Star took our plates and took them to the kitchen while motioning Cy and Raven to the small table. Star touched down on the sofa beside me.
"I belive you visited to speak with us." Star said to Bruce.
"Yes. I wanted to know if you were joining. Mary wants to get the stables straight." Bruce said, getting right to the point.
"Yeah. I was about to. Why?" I asked.
"Your pegasi. Mary has five, each suited to their rider." Bruce explained.
"We're expected to ride them?!" I would rather drive my R-cycle.
"Yes. You'll find they're very... different. They have rather... unique abilities. Don't worry, they could easily outdistance your R-cycle just by going almost half-speed." Bruce stood. "Thank you. And thank you again for the breakfast. It was actually quite good." Bruce left.
"Uhn... I smelled tofu bacon, so I got up." BB dragged himself over to the end table. "Ooh! Yummy! Who cooked this?"
"I did." Star said. "It is... nice?"
"Are you kidding? It's great!" BB said, chowing down.
"No. I am not a goat." Star said irrately, crossing her arms.
"It's okay, Star. It's just a figure of speech. He means, 'are you joking'." I explained. She smiled at me. BB took the whole tray back to the kitchen. Star kissed me and pulled my MA communicator out. She smiled innocently at me and held it out.
"As you wish, princess." I grinned, and bowed slightly to her. I opened it and called Ashley.
"Hey." Ashley said. "What's up?"
"I accept your offer." I said simply.
"Good." Ashley smiled. "By the way... is Mary showing you your-"
"Pegasi? Yeah. How did you get those?" I interrupted.
"Many species and things exist in this world... and other worlds. Humans just don't notice. Too caught up in problems, and some hate the others species. Not everyone is like that, though. A lot of humans realize there's more than the eye can see, and there's more than just common species." Ashley stated.
"I take it you're not human?" I questioned.
"You could say that. Amost everyone has a soul, including animals. Most animals are more intelligent than some humans about fixing problems. They work together. Like packs." Ashley said vaguely.
"What are you then?" I persisted.
"I am a Nabican tigress. Empress of Tawaii. If you start bowing to me... or anything... I will personally-"
"I won't. I'm engaged to a princess. I only bow sometimes. But that doesn't mean I don't respect her, mind you." I interrupted again.
"It's alright. We're working on a project right now. Enjoy your day." Ashley said, then added, "don't freak out on your pegasus. He might bite..." Ashley waved and the screen cut off. I pocketed the communicator.
"Well, that's taken care of. You in the mood to meet a pegasus?" I winked at her. She took it seriously and started doing cartwheels in the air.
"I am certain! Let us go! When?" Star was so excited.
"I hate to ask this, but could you come down? I don't know when we're-" three sharp raps sounded on the door- "I guess now." I opened the door again. Too many visitors here...
"Is evervon avake? I vish to get moving soon. Ve must go to ze stables to accustom you to your horses." Mary said, Justin was beside her, carrying a coil of rope.
"Hello. How are you? We do need to go soon..." Justin had less of an accent, but he was clearly English.
"Yeah. Good. We're all awake. The others are finishing-" I heard the kitchen door open and watched the others file out quietly. Cy and BB were abnormally subdued, so I guessed Rae had gotten mad at them. Probably over their tofu arguments. "-have finished breakfast." I continued. "We can leave now."
"Alvight. Come now, all of you." I motioned my hesistant team, and they followed me immediately. We've come a long way, my team and I. We're a family now, all of us. We're like siblings... well... except for those of us with romantic ties.
When we reached the stables, a massive brilliantly snowy-white mare reared and greeted us by spreading her huge wings and neighing.
"Zat is just Ashley's pegasus, Horsess's, mate, Zara. Pronounced like zat." Mary introduced her.
"Zara is Zara, not Sarah." Justin elaborated on Mary's last comment. Mary nodded.
"Anyvay, zose are your pegasi. Here, darlings." Mary called to them and waved at them. They thundered over, each one going to a specific team member. "Zey know zeir vider." Mary said. Mine was black with gentle crystal blue eyes, reminding me of my mother. Blue eyes was a trait I had inherited from her. He winnied and stomped the ground, eyes flashing, indicating he was not as gentle as he looked. He was a war horse through and through. What was his name?
<Got any ideas? Shall I tell you my name? Maybe that would help.> A sarcastic male voice said in my head. I knew it was the hor- pegasus.
"What's your name, then?" I asked.
<Glad you asked. My name is Solitary, but you can call me Sole. Both synonyms for alone. Because I can deal severe damage all by myself. Yay. I'm not a foal.> Sole said sarcastically. Overuse of sarcasm.
"Nice to meet you."
<You too.> Sole shook himself and took to the sky, the draft from his wings knocking me over.
"Thanks." I said, sarcastically. Eh, maybe he's not so different. I picked myself up and looked at the others. Star had a fiery red horse with green eyes, BB's was green, Rae's was grayish purple with stormy gray eyes, and Cy's was (not mechanic) white with blue warpaint, or stripes, I couldn't tell.
"Solitary, Solarstreak, Shifter, Crow, and Lightning." Justin said, going down the line, in the same order I described them. "Fine Pegasi all. You wanna try flying?"
"No!" Everyone responded immediately.
"By ze way, Base 10 has been completed. Vould you like to visit?" Mary said.
"Why not?" I said.
"Cool!" A female voice sounded from behind us. We turned to see a blonde with ocean gray eyes smiling at us. "I get to teleport you!"
"Princess Rose!" Star hugged the girl so hard I thought Star would break Rose's back.
"Hey Star! Okay, let go... 1 2 3!" Star released her at the 3. "Get ready. Mary, Justin, you're to come to." We teleported to Base 10. Overlooking Jump City. And a bit farther out than our Tower.
"Extra help. We want more people around to help when Slade starts this war. We'll be ready." Ashley said, apparently having been waiting for us.

Mwahaha! My apologies for the cliffhanger endings. Next chapter may be a little scary (Slade alert!), but hang in there! <3 Ashley Michelle
