Akihiko Juro's POV
"You can't do this! Let us go!" I yelled, struggling to get free. I had to keep up the act like last time. The scouts had freed me, but now I was caught again. Slade doesn't know what I can do.
"Oh, but I can, General. What would your father say? Oh, yes. He already spoke of this. He threatened to set a Japanses nuclear bomb off in the United States if he didn't get you back in 74 hours. After all, the U.S. isn't on good terms with Japan. Your father belives the worst. He's Grand Marshall, isn't he, General? And you are the youngest Japanese General in history. Your father believes the U.S. is going to execute you. And there is nothing you can do to change his mind." Slade said in his cold, cynical voice.
My eyes widened in shock. My tongue, and mind, frozen in surprise. I felt my body tense as though I had been shocked by an eel.
"You... You're a 狂人 ((madman))" I barely managed to utter out of my mouth. Time seemed to stop at that moment. "If that happens, then Japan will be in great danger!" This guy didn't just belong in jail, he belonged in solitary confinement.
"Yes. It will. And so will the rest of the world." Slade laughed maniacally. I just stared at him. I had heard that the Titans had attempted to destroy him several times, but he always came back. Maybe it had damaged his mind, or he just had a twisted soul.
"You're a stupid American!" I hissed, my voice sounding more like a cobra's than a human's. "I will not allow you to endanger my people!"
"Your people are not the only ones in danger." Slade walked over to the wall shrouded in shadow and pushed a button. "They are as well." The groundlights flashed on, revealing several heroes, also captured. I recognized Starfire, Burnette, and Corinne. The other two, I did not recognize. I gasped in shock as I saw them. My mind raced as I thought about my people. Family, friends, strangers, everyone in Japan would be at risk if America attacked.
"Let's make a deal, a ransom." I suggested, my voice as smooth as silk. I hoped that my persuasion skills would help carry me through this. This needed to work. No, It must. For my friends, my family and Japan. I would not let my hands be stained by the blood of millions just because of incompetence. "If you let them go, I'll go along with this. You can use me for a ransom. My father will give you anything you want." I said smoothly.
"I'll get what I want by keeping you. I want war." Slade said, his voice hard as steel, colder than Arctic winds.
I glared at him, my face staying still, my eyes in a narrow lock on the madman. "Then it is war you shall have." I told him in a firm tone, my jaw locked. This madman wanted war, so that's what he shall have. I could have cared less for those Americans, it was my people I truly grimaced over. The thought made my insides turn with uncertainty and my head ache with overwhelming grief. But I kept my face blank, not showing any trance of weakness or fear. I couldn't let my enemy know my thoughts.
"I know. That is the plan." He laughed coldly. Starfire woke up suddenly, slamming her titanium handcuffs on the floor and walls with all her might. When she realized Slade was laughing, she stared at him in disbelief and anger.
"Robin will find me. He will destroy you, and you will not return again." She said, her voice shaking in anger and... was that a small amount of fear I sensed? She was angry, and she meant every word.
"He will find you. Always has. But he has tried to destroy me before. He failed pitifully. You are a prisoner." Slade walked over to his computermonitor station and pushed a button. Starfire was locked in the grasp of steel wires. She screamed.
"You will not get away with this!" Starfire began to choke as the wires bagan to wrap around her throat. She fell to her knees.
"You shouldn't do that." I said firmly. I looked at the madman in disgust. She was defenseless. It wasn't just insane. It was evil. Starfire stuck her index fingers up to comfort me. She didn't look like she was suffocating.
"I do not need to breathe to live. I am Tamaranian. Do not fear, Robin will find us." Starfire said in Japanese. It was an act. She was acting, just as I had been. Slade pushed another button, and the steel wrapped around her mouth as well, effectively stopping her from saying anything more.
"You will suffocate eventually. No matter how long you can hold your breath, you will need to breathe. He will find you, but it will be too late." Slade turned and studied the monitors in front of him. Then he swung around suddenly and came towards me, spinning my chair around and coming around in front of me.
"This is war. Watch her die. She is one of billions that will fall." Slade grabbed my chair and kicked it to the other side of the room, causing me to bang my head on the wall so hard the room went slightly blurry. I groaned as I looked at him. I violently shook my head. I could feel myself losing control of it. I took a deep breath, balancing out the pain and my nerves.
"You're going to have to try better than that." I mumbled, keeping my jaw tight and my face emotionless. I wasn't going to let him break me. These others, they were superheroes. They would manage on their own. Right now, I had to stay strong for Japan. I couldn't allow my people to be sprung into a war.
"I will. While we're waiting for her to die, shall we send another hero to his or her death?" Slade punched a button, and the steel grabbed the red-headed guy I didn't know by his arms. Were all Americans this evil? I continued to watch. I couldn't help but feel slightly sorry for the bunch. I was watching them be tortured by this person, though at the same time I didn't feel entirely bad. I knew I could get us out of this, as soon as Slade left the room. But... weren't they the enemies? My father had told me that countless times. I could recall him now, through the pain.
'You're only going to America for a diplomatic mission. Be sure to keep your true identity classified. We are in dangerous times, my son. They could use you to get information out about our secret weapon, or worse, execute you' His words rang in my head like a forever repeating song. I continued to look emotionlessly at the scene. I had to keep my country safe and if that meant a few lost lives, I could afford that. My people were first. I lived to keep them safe, no matter the cost. I was ready to permanently dispose of this madman. The girl with pink hair I didn't know collapsed, crying.
"KID!!! What is wrong with you? Why are you so evil?" The girl cried, screaming at Slade.
"It's... okay... Jinx..." Kid gritted between clenched teeth.
"Well, so nice to see such a heart-breaking scene. I'll let you stay and watch. I'll be back." Slade left, Kid still screaming from the electricity going through the steel and Jinx yelling for Kid and screaming dire threats at Slade. Suddenly, Slade back-hand-springed back in and over to me. I continued to keep a straight face, though I could feel Slade's hollow, dark eyes burning through me. He wanted something, I could tell.
"Yes?" I asked softly, keeping my jaw tight and my voice steady.
"You are coming with me. And you will answer my questions." Slade picked up my chair and walked out with me like I was a feather. I continued to act like nothing was wrong, though I had a seed of fear growing. 'remember what 父親 (father) said: Stay strong and don't let anyone break you.' I thought, replaying his words in my head. I groaned as I was suddenly dropped in a cell-like, brightly lit room. The room was painted with light gray walls and an equally colored, hard, concrete floor. There was a coffee table in the dead center of the room with one light brown, metal chair on the side that faced the door. I squinted my eyes as the light beat off of it, not yet adjusted to the brightness of the light.
"So, General. I know you know something about a secret weapon. What is it? How do you power it? What does it do? How powerful is it?" Slade paced around in front of me, sat in the chair, and slammed his fist down on the table. "Answer!" I didn't even flinch. I stared him dead in his hollow, black eyes. I wasn't going to tell him the information, even though I didn't truly know it myself. I couldn't let him know. One of the rules of being interrogated: Even if you don't know anything, don't state that you don't. I stared at him, my eyes hard and not revealing anything. I stayed perfectly still, mentally standing my ground, my face showing no sign of emotion. Slade straightened. "If you are not going to tell me now, you soon will talk. When I return from my little... errand, I will make you talk. Everything will come out." Slade picked my chair back up and took me back to the room. He slammed me down, but I had put my chin to my chest so my neck wouldn't snap back. Slade walked out. "Until later, General." I looked at the others. Kid had collapsed, but the electricity was off. Jinx was crying quietly, and Starfire was trying to reach her. To my surprise, Starfire had broken her bonds after she realized Slade had left. She flew over to Jinx and hugged her.
"Shhhh, Friend Jinx. It will be alright. Shhhh..." Starfire rocked Jinx back and forth gently.
"So... who wants to escape?" I said. They all looked up suddenly. "I mean it. We can get out of here. But only if you help me." They all nodded willingly. Burnette and Corinne smiled slightly.
"We took one of Slade's computers. We hid it behind us. When he kicked your chair, it slid across the floor, but we were the only ones who noticed." Burnette said.
"It may have valuable information" Corinne added.
"Good, girls. But we have to get out of here." I said. "You'll work with me, right?"
"We are with you even to the Doors of Death." Starfire said.
"Awesome." Suddenly, all their bonds were released and a Chinese dragon slithered out of the portal I had opened. [A/N: Go to http://www.thefeaturedcreature.com/wordpress6/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/chinese-dragon-red.jpg for picture] They looked at it in fear, and then Slade came back.
"What? Who did this?" Slade demanded. He pulled out his bo staff, but the dragon simply bit it in half. I helped the others get out by opening the exit door that was well hidden, but I detected it with my telepathy. The dragon slashed Slade across his chest. Slade puched it, and it clawed him again. Slade punched it again and it began to fade, beginning to go back to where it came from to regenterate. I was already out, following Jinx, carrying Kid Flash.
"You will pay for this, General. Whoever summoned that dragon will pay tenfold." The madman threatened. I'll pay elevenfold. Whatever. He'll see who pays in the end. I had to contact my dad.
