Chapter 14

The morning air was filled with a sense of excitement as Avneet awoke with the sunrise. Her heart was light, her smile wide as she prepared for the day ahead. She adorned herself in a chic denim jacket, a t-shirt emblazoned with a bold print, and jeans that bore the marks of a fashionably lived life. Her boots were a statement of style and purpose, and her handbag was the perfect companion for any adventure.

As she stepped outside, she found Shubman deep in conversation. Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around him in a warm embrace, to which he responded with a tender kiss on her forehead. Their moment was interrupted by Jaijeet's teasing, "Avneet, if you're this affectionate in the morning, what happens at night?"

Shubman nearly choked on his words, and Avneet's cheeks turned a rosy shade of red. "Bhai, what are you saying? Have you lost your mind?" she retorted, her voice a mix of embarrassment and amusement.

Their friend Shahneel couldn't help but laugh at the exchange. "Shubman, who are you talking to? You've been on the phone for ages," he joked.

Shubman gestured for silence, his grip on Avneet's hand firm as he ended the call. "Who was that? You seemed so serious," Avneet inquired with concern.

Shubman's expression was troubled as he explained, "Hardik bhai has left our team for MI. They've made me captain, and I'm not sure what to do."

Avneet's brow furrowed in confusion. "Why did Hardik bhai leave? Isn't he from Gujarat?"

"They offered him more money," Shubman replied simply.

Avneet leaned in, planting a reassuring kiss on his cheek. "Calm down, Shub," she whispered.

Their conversation was cut short by another call, this time from Hardik himself. Shubman answered, his tone a mix of frustration and confusion. The exchange was brief, Hardik explaining his move for a higher salary, leaving Shubman with mixed feelings.

As they reached the airport, Shubman's mood had not lifted. Avneet, sensing his turmoil, held his hand tightly, her touch a silent promise of support. "You know I'm always here for you, right?" she said softly.

Shubman's smile returned at her gesture, and they boarded their flight, settling in for the journey ahead. Jaijeet offered to switch seats, allowing the couple some privacy.

Avneet rested her head on Shubman's shoulder, her voice low. "Are you still angry?"

Shubman's response was gentle. "I may be angry at the world, but never at you."

Their tender moment was interrupted by the airhostess, taking their drink orders. As they sipped their orange juice and lemonade, they each turned to their books, escaping into the worlds of Rahul Dravid and the 'Wicked King.'

"Why is Cardan so hot?" Avneet mused aloud.

Shubman's curiosity piqued. "Who's hot?"

"Cardan," Avneet replied, a playful glint in her eye.

Shubman's jealousy was evident, but Avneet quickly reassured him. "He's just a character in my book, and he's taken by Jude."

With a nod, Shubman returned to his book, and Avneet to hers, their drinks and the worlds within their pages the perfect companions for their flight.

The airplane was abuzz with the quiet murmur of travelers when a familiar figure approached Shubman, causing a ripple of excitement. "Hello Shubman," greeted the legendary cricketer with his characteristic warmth.

Shubman, momentarily taken aback by the presence of his idol, quickly rose to his feet. "Hello sir," he replied, his voice betraying a hint of reverence. The introduction was brief but significant as Sachin introduced his daughter, Sarah, who offered Shubman a polite smile.

Avneet, observing the exchange, felt a surge of pride and stood to join Shubman. Sachin's gaze shifted to her, inquisitive yet friendly. "And who might this be?" he inquired.

"She's my fiancée, Avneet," Shubman introduced, his hand finding Avneet's in a supportive gesture. Sachin's smile broadened. "Pleasure to meet you, Avneet," he said, extending the same warmth he was renowned for.

Seizing the moment, Avneet asked for a photograph with the cricket icon, to which Sachin graciously agreed. Shubman, playing the role of photographer, captured the moment. Sarah, meanwhile, seemed to struggle with a frown, her interest in Shubman apparent yet unreciprocated.

As the Tendulkars departed, Avneet turned to Shubman, a teasing tone in her voice. "Did you notice Sarah's look?" she asked. Shubman could only nod, his respect for Sachin making the situation all the more delicate. "I saw, but what could I do? He's my idol," he confessed.

Avneet's response was lighthearted, her confidence unshaken. "Did I ask you to do anything? I can handle it if I'm with you," she assured him, her words laced with affection.

Their laughter mingled with the hum of the airport, and a kiss sealed their bond. As Avneet returned to her book, the world around them faded, their connection a quiet testament to their shared journey ahead.

The cabin lights dimmed, casting a serene glow over the passengers. Avneet, feeling the day's excitement catch up with her, let out a soft yawn and placed a bookmark between the pages of her novel. She rose from her seat, her movements graceful despite the confines of the airplane, and made her way to Shubman. With a tender smile, she settled onto his lap, her head finding a comforting spot against his chest. Shubman, his protective instincts kicking in, reclined his seat slightly and began to gently stroke her back. The rhythmic motion and the steady beat of his heart beneath her ear lulled Avneet into a peaceful slumber.

Shubman, feeling her weight relax into him, allowed his own eyes to close, his head resting back against the headrest. The world around them faded away as they both drifted into a shared dreamland, their breaths syncing in quiet harmony.

Jaijeet, returning from a brief walk down the aisle, paused to observe the couple. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, their affection for each other evident in their entwined forms. "They are too cute," he whispered to himself, a hopeful note in his voice. "I just hope papa and mumma accept their relationship."

With that wish hanging in the air, Jaijeet returned to his seat, reclined it, and let the hum of the engines and the thought of his friends' happiness coax him into sleep. The plane, a vessel of dreams and aspirations, carried them all towards their destinations, both geographical and emotional.
