Ch18: Exam Results
(3rd POV - Middle of the Road - 20 kilometers from Raisa, Japan - A Week Later)
"I swear if it wasn't for Hayashi I wouldn't be back here." One guard said irritably.
Getting the other one, a man whose Quirk had a fanged underbite sighed out irritably.
"And you have already done so a thousand times. And you will do so a thousand times more Shido. Your younger brother really screwed everything up, but at least unlike your other brothers you kept your job." He said, keeping his eyes on the road.
Shido went silent as he left out an irritating sigh.
"I know Hiroki, I know just-" "So you got bumped down a rank from a job you got both from politics. You've been doing a good job these past few weeks. Give it enough time and you'll get the position back with enough work. Though consider getting some therapy just in general. Believe me it does wonders." Hiroki said, cutting off Shido before he could complain once again.
Who pondered the other guard's words for a bit for nodding.
"Probably might take your advice, got any recommendations that I can contact?" Shido asked.
"Save it for when we get off the clock and get some rest, we're about five hours to Tartarus. Best to think about it with a clear head." Hiroki said as he continued to drive.
Unknown to the public things with the police force behind closed doors had been a little...uneasy.
Nothing much from the every day duty, just things had been tense since Shido's brother fell alseep in the monitor room and basically allowed the Berusabisu Juvenile Detention Center Breakout.
And for the main culprit organizing it from the inside and the villain hired to break him out both escaped custody after being apprehended.
In two different detention cells, in two different parts of Honshū, at around the exact same time.
Both under heavy security had disappeared without a trace. All footage lost of their cells two.
Forced to admit to the public days latter and security in all prisons in Honshū had grown a little restless. Unfortunately so had the criminals...multiple tried to escape and there had been riots in two different prisons this week alone.
Within the convoy truck they were transferring the head instigators of the riots in one of the prisons. Three guards fully armored in the back with over ten prisoners secured in the back. Meeting up with the other truck and some patrol officers in Raisa to transport to Tartarus.
The town was the closest point on the route between them and the route had unofficially been shifted to a different one to decrease the risks of being breached.
Not quite the measures they were used to, but figured that it could take a few weeks or months before things relatively returned to normal-
Both guards were broken out of their thoughts when the right wheels of the patrol car infront of the armored truck gave way, forcing Hiroki to break as the patrol car swerved into a tree.
"Shit we're under attack!" Shido said as he reached for a communicator, only for he and Hiroki to cover their ears as a loud static screech blared from it as the lights in the truck began to flicker.
"What in the deepest pits is going on here?" Hiroki said, before their eyes widened as he pushed the convey truck in reverse as the cruiser infront was flipped over!
They could hear chaos erupting in the back, no doubt some of the prisoners were taking their chances with the commotion outside. They had little time to wonder how the guards were handling it before they heard screams outside.
Shido without a second thought leapt out of the truck's seat to Hiroki's protest, drawing his weapon and surveying the situation outside.
Immediately regretting it at surveying the carnage on either side of the truck.
The cruiser infront was flipped over and the officers inside knocked unconscious, the cruiser partly wrecked and a figure in a black sweat shirt hiding their hair. Wherever they touched the cruiser was appeared severely dented and rusted. Standing on top of it and whacking it with their tail was another figure with a mutation Quirk.
Their monstrous appearance was obscured by the cloudless sky, but their bestial posture and the glittering fleck of light from their back didn't help his nerves at all.
Especially when looking at it seem to cause a migraine.
Was that why the electronics going haywire...
Hearing someone rushing towards him, Shido put his back to the truck as he saw a taller woman rushing towards him, a pair of glowing, slitted amber eyes glaring at him.
Quickly drawing his taser he fired it, only the woman to bend out the way followed by a click.
Before Shido could even register what happened he screamed in pain and dropped the taser.
"You at least have some instincts, you would have lost more than just half your index finger." Kokuyōsenki said as she examined the fallen digit and taser. With a click flicking the blood off her right Bonesaw.
Shido yelled out in pain as alongside the dismembered finger there was a massive gash cut into his arm and forearm. Balling his hand and pressing it against his uniform to slow the bleeding, drawing his baton and trying to strike her.
Her blade reaved up and with a click on the pivot effortlessly cut through it before socking him with her left hand in the chest.
Shido groaned and spat up bile and blood as he was pressed into the truck, swearing he felt like someone pitched a fastball to his chest!
Kokuyōsenki extended her second blade, but twisted back away from a bullet as Shido slumped towards the ground.
"I tried to warn you Shido! I got your back, now all of you stay back!" Hiroki said, brandishing his gun and hand reaching for something on his belt.
She clicked her tounge as stood at the ready as her compatriot started to approach while the bloody parasite jumped off the cruiser.
(Shigaraki POV)
Well now it seems at least one officer here could be a mini boss for this quest, valiantly standing guard over his partner.
Might have made this little fetch quest more fun, if we weren't on a timer this could have been fun. I believe according to Sensei we had about a 10-15 minutes before the rest of the convoy suspect something when this truck wouldn't arrive.
These types of quests were always maxed on difficulty in real life.
Yet Shiragami's and Kokuyōsenki's made this quest easy.
Aside from Sensei suggesting this as a form for them venting it out, this was just a prelude to the main level. Tensions if only a little in Musutafu and other parts of Japan respectfully behind closed doors.
So let's raise that fear level up a level or two, there is no way they could fully ignore this.
"Brace yourself." Shiragami's voice echoed in my mind before I grinned.
And the effects of her mental AOE attack were imminent.
The officer let out a yell as he dropped some kind of grenade to the ground and clutching his hand with one hand, his partner passed out on the ground from the strain while Kokuyōsenki walked forward with a wince.
Nothing more than just a serious mental debuff, but after a while it just stopped affecting me all the while. Still need a second to raise my defense though.
Kokuyōsenki retracted her blade before raking the officer in the face with her left hand, getting his head to slam back against the truck. Felling the mini boss in mook's clothing.
Or was it the other way around?
I scratched my neck thinking about it while Kokuyōsenki shook her hand, guess his defenses stats were stronger than he looked.
"You fine." I said approaching his body from the side and internally wincing at the lacerations on his face. Before bending down and disinterring his body cam footage.
Too soon for the world to know my face just yet, just a while longer.
"Still getting used to this." Kokuyōsenki said as I heard tinkling to the ground as she flexed her fingers.
Great I would have to disintegrate those too.
With an annoyed sighed I kicked the officer's body to the other side before disintegrating that portion of the ground and the other officer's body cam too.
Honestly the majority of this quest was cleaning up after Kokuyōsenki and Shiragami, annoying but can't have all of my party's capabilities be spoiled to the public now.
No, I'll save it for the boss level.
"Did you disable the camera in the other car?" I asked Kokuyōsenki. Shiragami totaled it and sashed up the other patrol car. Just need to take care of the truck-
'Done.' Shiragami's voice echoed in my head as a large crystal spear pierced the windshield and into the central console.
Okay that's one way to do so.
"That and the body camera's. Have some experience, but you might want to double check the truck and the parasite's spear. Could be more." Kokuyōsenki said as she revered her blade, the teeth of them looking like they were heating up as I took a grenade off of one of the officer's belts.
"If you're so experienced, then what kind of grenade is this then?" I asked her, holding it between my fingers.
"A smoke grenade, the one he was about to pull the pin was tear gas." She said, getting me to wince internally.
They usually reserve that for for riots or confrontations of confirmed multiple groups of C-ranked villains. Sensei did say they headed an attempted prison riot, yet there should only be one according to sensei.
Then again they did start a riot...still...
I grinned as a plan came to mind as Kokuyōsenki pushed both of her blades into the side of the truck, Shiragami crawling down the side of the truck with the crystals on their back starting to glow orange.
Oh this was going to be fun.
Kokuyōsenki punched a small hole in the truck her blade, getting some muffed cries of shock from inside. Which only increased when she pulled back and Shiragami blasted a wider hole in the truck's wall before I tossed the grenade in while pulling the pin.
Taking some satisfaction at hearing the chaos inside and smoke billowing out from the hole.
Not as satisfying tossing them in the games, but at the very least they tore a whole big enough that it didn't get stuck in the wall.
What was the term called, pulling a Caboose...
I was broken from my thoughts as I felt a sense of pain flush through my body and hearing coughing. Sighing as I turned to Shiragami coughing as Kokuyōsenki walked passed me clutching her arm.
Hearing several cracks as she was now entering the truck, honestly she would be fine. As long as the targets weren't killed, the rest she could cut up after freeing them. That and the guards too.
I was more concerned with Shiragami throwing up molten crystal as several gashes opened around their back, the size of their body growing before contracting again before returning to normal.
Still not completely stable, but their body has been warping like this less and less except if they run out of MP. Considering the lights of the truck stopped flicking, our time limit just got cut a few minutes.
Should be long gone by then.
"Tired..." Shiragami said as they stopped throwing up, their crystal bile hardening on the ground.
"Rotate to the back of the party, let Kurogiri handle things for now." I said, getting them to growl as I disintegrate the crystals on the ground. "Well can continue our game in a moment."
This seemed to placate Shiragami somewhat as they let out a growl as Kurogiri appeared from a column of smoke.
"Indeed, and it's for you Shigaraki." Kurogiri said, holding one hand out with an earpiece with a lens attached to the side.
Knowing Sensei, it was an infrared camera.
Time to see what he wished to talk about.
Careful not to destroy it, otherwise Sensei would lecture me about accidentally wasting his inventory again. Placing it on my ear and pressing the button.
"Tomura I take it everything is proceeding as planned." Sensei said.
"Not going to be 100% Sensei, but everything is as you predicted." I said before looking into the cabin of the truck. Seeing Shiragami growling at Kurogiri as it tried to swat at him with their tail.
Probably pestering him for a seagull again, been trying to ween it out off of eating them. Less successful than getting what you wish for the gacha first try...
Never am I going to experience that hell again, wasted so many phones in frustration.
"Good, and the assets. Also destroy it from the middle before decaying the console." Sensei said as I disintegrated half the crystal spear.
"From the sounds of it Kokuyōsenki is handling it well and should have things done in a moment." I said, taking a few moments to make sure the console of the truck look liked it was smashed in. "Should I waste the other mobs in the back Sensei."
Judging by the muffled screams in the back Kokuyōsenki was going to be done with the guards soon, punctuated by banging against the walls.
The main mission aside from spreading more unease throughout the nation, Sensei confirmed that three of them had O- blood type. Sensei believing they would make great subjects for his little Project.
Knew them from sight as they were on the bottom rung of the prisoners transported.
If any of the other mobs had importance aside from what Sensei wished, well the only thing they would be worth was experience or dust...or....
"Check that Sensei, what about a distraction?" I asked, scratching my neck with my other hand.
There was silence for a few moments before I swore I could picture Sensei grinning.
"You are learning quickly Tomura, waste one to set an example and any other subjects your bring back the better. Keep your face and the Kaiju hidden. I've called back Kurogiri for a moment. There is a bonus objective to you that you need to bring in." Sensei said, getting me to frown.
What did he learn?
From the back of the truck I heard muffled shouting from the back and started to walk along the side of the truck.
"Remember Kokuyōsenki's file that I gave to you, you'll figure out when you see him." Sensei said as he cut off the line. Yet I did know he was still observing from the earpiece.
So it would be someone she knew, Sensei had me read her file, she did work on the Villain Factory under Hachisuke and Number 6 for him.
Never interacted with them much and despised of that overgrown maggot and faceless doppelgänger. Still had to admit, 6 went out in a fashion fitting for a final boss fight!
Still wasn't sure if his final form was directly a mockery of All Might, but if not he went down with style. At least Sensei believed so.
But it did give me an idea of what to expect.
The shouting in to back of the truck grew louder as I reached the door, noticing Shiragami clamoring onto the roof. Letting out a growl as a flash of information passed through my head and I smirked.
Oh, that is going to be quite the skill!
"Fine you'll get what you're looking for." I said with a grin as I touched the hands and decayed part of the door.
Before stepping back as Shiragami leaned down and let out a small blast, destroying the rest of the lock.
Stepping back as the door were forced open and Kokuyōsenki jumped back, some scratches on her arms and her blades drawn.
"I'm not done with you yet!" Someone roared from within and out stepped someone who looked like a humanoid bat.
Some of his skin was marred with gashes and part of his restraints were slashed through, one of his arms/wing and his legs free. Glaring at Kokuyōsenki hatefully as he jumped out of the truck.
Looking in the back it was carnage with claw marks and slashes on the walls, a few blood stains, three defeated guards, and nine injured prisoners. All of them looked worse for wear yet very much alive.
Probably staying back for the opportunity to run.
Still my focus was on the Next-Level Villain snarling at us.
An earlier version of Sensei's Nomu project alongside whatever the hell Number 6 and I assume Kurogiri are, outdated but Sensei could find a reason to use him.
"Change of plans, we need him alive. Distract him for a minute." I said, getting Kokuyōsenki to nod.
"Noted, just don't take your eyes off him. Before the procedure and without Trigger he was pretty quick." She said.
So a speed build then, this could be tricky. But according to the files Sensei made without Trigger flowing through his system and half bound should be earlier to handle.
"Stay out of my way while I gut this bitch!" He roared out before breaking into a sprint.
My eyes widening as I stepped out of the way, feeling the wind from him trying to smack me before Kokuyōsenki jumped in, scratching his back with her blades before he jumped back. Flapping his arm before landing in a crouch.
Okay he didn't just have a speed build, but a mix of Lightning Bruiser and Mighty Glacier. Maxing his speed while being able to give and take a hit through his Quirks and modifications.
Oh those types are so annoying to deal with...
But with the way he was panting, seemed not like that much into defense points. Yet the moment he breaks both arms out of their bindings wither he makes a break for it or moves to dives bombs us.
Can't let him change strategies.
He sprinted towards her and I jumped into the fray as she ducked under his claws. He tried to back pedal before I stomped on his foot. Grinning as he yelled before clapping my hands over one of his ears.
They were as sensitive as I thought.
The Next-Level Villain screeched as I bent back to avoid him racking his claws into my chest.
Kokuyōsenki rushing in, her blades folded back on her forearms and pivot as she slugged him in the chest. Her blades sprung up with a click and cut into his legs before pulling back as he tried to kick her.
Grabbing one of the new gashes on his leg before rushing forward, seemingly uncaring of the damage done to his legs. Barley stepping back as he jumped at me, flapping into the air.
Before grunting in pain as he kicked my side.
Okay that hurt!
I retaliated by grasping at him, the villain raising his forearm to block me. Smart choice, except my Quirk. Yelling in pain as I pulled back a small orange globe colliding where I just touched.
Getting him to yell in pain as a small explosion singed his arm.
Nice aim.
I swore I heard Shiragami let out a growl as Kokuyōsenki closed in for the kill, the villain jumping back and lashing out with two kicks she waved for before cutting across his cheek with her blade.
Him jumping back as a waft of black smoke appeared next to the truck's wall, Kurogiri soon appearing next to it.
"What took you so long idiot." I growled out as Kokuyōsenki went after the villain.
"Apologies but arrangements had to be made." Kurogiri said as he handed me a barb which I smiled as I grasped at. Careful not to prick my finger on it.
"Give them a seagull or fish, they more than deserve it in a moment." I said before rushing forward as the villain back off from Kokuyōsenki. Handing her the barb and she nodded as I rushed in a plan in motion.
Ducking under a claw swipe and grabbing his back, Decaying of what I felt to be fur before moving out of the way. A small explosion striking his back.
Growling out before turning to face me, snarl on his face.
Until Kokuyōsenki nicked him in the shoulder with the barb, getting his body to stiffen up before collapsing into a heap on the ground.
That thing was Sensei's preferred method of dealing with most mutation Quirks, an infinite +1 sword that severely debuffs most of their Quirks temporarily and if not inflicts the sleep status if their blood makes contact with the venom.
He should be out of it for a while...
I heard some more yelling from behind to see two of the prisoners from the back of the truck rushing towards us, one looking like a humanoid goblin shark and the other with orangish spiked skin rushed forward looking like they were ready for a fight.
Taking down the big guy strategy, I believe we just took down the 'big guy' among the prisoners. A common trash mob strategy, one that I am more used to through annoying sidequests.
One of them is one of Sensei's targets.
"Deal with the others incase they get uppity, I'll deal with those two." I said flexing my fingers while Kokuyōsenki just nodded as I looked at the top of the truck.
Shiragami just huffed and I felt a brief surge of pain through my head as I got the message.
Besides this should only take a minute, there is only one answer for a situation like this.
I rushed through them, swerving out of the way of the goblin shark villain biting at me. Striking top he snout and getting him to pull back before closing in on the other villain. Dodging a weak punch from him I placed both my hands on his chest.
Yelling in pain as I Decayed his chest, hearing it cracking before stepping aside as an orange mote of light shot past my head.
Exploding the spiked villain's chest and he fell back with his chest cracked, burnt, and I swear a ribbed was exposed. If he wasn't dead than he'll soon will be.
The other villain looked at this with a grin before lunging at me, leaning out of the way before gasping as I jabbed my fingers into his gills. Holding my thumb hovering over his neck.
"Tell me why it was a good idea for you two thought you could jump me after I broke you out." I said as he started to gag.
"I don't know about the dipshit with me...but it looked like a good fight..." He said, getting me to sigh.
Muscle headed mobs that would want to fight anyone they could, all too used to dealing with them.
Forcibly removing my fingers from his gills, getting him to cough as I shook my head.
"Get back with the others, anyone try anything will end up like them!" I shouted, gesturing to the fallen villains as he ran back with the others.
With Kokuyōsenki with her blades out, any of these idiots try to start something else will end up mutilated.
On the top of the truck Shiragami looked haggard as Kurogiri brought out a fish from his mist. Turning his body into it as Shiragami swatted their tail at him in annoyance before beginning to greedily devour it. Kurogiri looked down at me and nodded while I tisked.
Time to finish this.
"Listen up, I'm taking half of you with me! The other half can get out of here, one car is not busted!" I said, Kokuyōsenki nodding at my words as the prisoners stood still. "From there, do whatever the hell you want! You're free for as long as you can evade the police and heros! For those with me, I can promise you a chance for power beyond what you can ever dream of! All it costs is your loyalty, but I will promise you the chance to shake Japan to its foundations!"
Honestly I meant what I said, if they can survive Sensei's Project Kodoku they will gain power beyond what they could possibly achieve. If it does succeed they will be loyal to Sensei and myself.
And risking being turned into mindless husks and into toxic sludge, but they didn't need to know that.
Nor that they are were useless mobs for Sensei to grind out the project.
There was murmuring from the prisoners until the one who looked like a humanoid goblin shark stepped forward with a grin.
"If that is what you're offering, as long as I get a good fight in the future count me in." He said with a fanged grin to which I smiled.
First lamb to the slaughter then and a willing one, Sensei must be enjoying this.
"Glad to have you." I said before walking past him. "Now then I pick you, you, and..." Trailing off as I picked the targets before settling on a prisoner standing probably a meter taller than myself as the final selection. "-you. All of you are coming with us, the rest get out of here. The time limit for your freedom is running out."
One of them looked like they were going to protest, until Kokuyōsenki started to rev up her blades before a crashing noise was heard.
"I would get running...if I were you...no use for trash mobs..." Shiragami threatened, blood and fish dribbling from their fangs as the approached the rejects.
While I held back from laughing at their fearful reactions and felling some pride to see them learning so fast.
The rejects quickly rushed to the police cruiser and one of them hastily started to hastily turn it on.
"Come on hurry up I thought that you were arrested for carjacking!" The prisoner in the passenger shouted out.
"I was never that good at it under pressure! I do not want to die here!" The driver said, seems like Shiragami's intimidation states nerfed his confidence quite a bit.
The one that claimed the back seat jumped in before the cruiser finally started, sirens blazing before turned off as they pulled out of there.
"Ok wait for me!" The last reject prisoner, who looked like some cross between a lizard and bird said as he ran off after the cruiser.
Unless their Quirk granted them a speed buff they would be the first ones caught, but we covered our tracks anyway.
We'll be on the other side on Honshū in a minute with still some time to spare.
Kurogiri struck once I was sure they were gone, his portal swallowing the Next-Level Villains body before making his presence known.
"Good evening, my name is Kurogiri and I will be your way out of here. Now come along, I have plenty of food and drink ready." He said, probably smiling under his smoky visage as his arms bodied billowed out.
"Unless you want to stay back, we have a bar-" I tried to say, but at the mention at the word bar the former prisoners began to mill into the portal.
Eh let them have this, a last meal and drink. One of the few things Kurogiri absolutely refuses to do if either my or Sensei order, tampering with food and drink he's prepared.
Not that it bothered us much, other ways to inflict someone with sleep status.
As the milled into the portal I heard a small buzz from the communicator and pressed my finger against it.
"So what did you think Sensei?" I asked with a grin.
"You continue to surprise me with your recent growth Tomura, some parts rough around the edges and we will discuss that later. But none the less completed everything." Sensei said, getting me to sigh.
Oh that is not going to be fun to listen to. Yet Sensei seems pleased.
"Of course and with the damage my party caused the heros will be on edge." I said with a grin, they will not know what hit them.
"Indeed, now there will be no more recruitment missions for the League or any operations for Kokuyōsenki and the Kaiju for the next few days unless of another medical emergency. Take a few days off Tomura." Sensei said, getting me to frown.
He had something planned with more Kurogiri.
More importantly by canceling the recruitment missions the League would soon make its move after being on standby. Finally done with the dealing with those trash mobs.
The raid boss fight of a lifetime was nearing...
"And you're going to be active these next few days Sensei?" I asked and I swore I could picture his grin.
"A little bit, we'll talk in a bit Tomura." Sensei said before the line went dead.
I sighed at that before shaking my head, well at least it's over for now. No more quests or anything, all that remains for the moment was prepping for the mission and getting the hell out of here.
"Well done everyone, mission cleared. And you two are free for a bit." I said, getting Kokuyōsenki to nod as she walked up to the portal. As I looked down at Shiragami with a smirk. "Now we have a game to finish, best three out of five?"
"You're on..." They said with a growl before the two of us entered in with Kurogiri, closing his portal behind us.
(3rd POV - ??? - An hour later)
"The subject is stable, but are you sure he could provide useful for Project Kodoku. The Next Level Villains proved fruitless for Project Shin." Dr. Garaki said as he finished up patching up and sedating our subject on the table.
Batto Yobayakawa or known in Naruhata as the Mad Bat, a hellraiser on the streets even before the Villain Factory turned its interest to him.
All for One mused on remembering the project fondly, one of the most successful ones since his disfiguration and the one whose results lead to the Nomu.
With Project Kodoku it was now outdated and would have little use for the Next-Level Villains, aside from Yobayakawa outside of the influence of Trigger none were inherited villainous.
But All for One saw an opportunity here, not a big one. But with the current atmosphere in Japan, if it would give All Might a migraine than he would delight in it anyway.
Alongside a few smaller side benefits...
"Of course, we might have moved past the Villain Factory but with our project and a supply of fresh samples perhaps we can find any data to enhance the results for survivability. Even if the results are slim, there could be the chance we overlooked something in the transition from creating Nomu." All for One getting Garaki to muse on the prospect for a moment.
Indeed they could have missed something and Yobayakawa had lived for years with the changes caused by his surgeries on him. Perhaps there had been changes in his body unobserved that could or not be beneficial to the project.
Still he wouldn't say no to more data.
Any data to stabilize Project Kodoku into something somewhat manageable would be the final step for completing Project Shin.
The both of them were interrupt from their thoughts as a ringing going off, All for One tapping a finger on the table before static went off in the lab.
"Report Kurogiri." All for One said.
"Of course sir, the subjects are incapacitated. I should bring them along in a minute." Kurogiri's voice echoed out, getting All for One to smirk.
"Deposit them in the cells before wait for transportation." He said before cutting off the communication. "Will you be able to begin experimenting on the subjects later?"
"Perhaps one or two of them, I have a busy schedule latter today." Dr. Garaki said as he went to pick up Johnny, the Nomu sleeping in the corner of the lab. "So let's get this briefing underway."
"It will be momentary, yet I won't doubt that you will enjoy what I have in mind." All for One said with a grin. His latest plan already underway.
(Izuku POV - Monarch Shiragami Research Outpost - That Afternoon)
"Alright the results are in." Agent Aoki said as looked over the results from the latest check up while I sat next to mom and Erika.
I know All Might isn't here was because of some finishing details on closing his heroic agency...and the incident earlier today. I only got some details earlier than the public from Detective Tsukauchi cause Kokuyōsenki was involved.
I-I had been hoping to hear of news on either her or Shiten after they were broken out of prison...just not like this.
A prison brake on a transport vehicle where the only other two known culprits was the leader with witness reports being some kind of fragmentation Quirk and a mutation Quirk, with the former being the leader.
One of the prisoners was killed and several managed to escape while the police there several had been maimed and at least one case of dismemberment from her...
The second time in a month of a prisoner brake like this and only two of the escapees had been caught so far...yet this one was much more brazen...
Honestly I still am trying to process it and Erika hasn't let me go from her vines today since we heard about the news...well more so than usual.
L-Like right now.
"E-Erika." I said, starting to find it hard to breathe.
Before her vine started to unwind around me, drooping across my shoulders and one vine wrapped tightly around my arm.
"Sorry." Erika said, while I just nodded.
Trying to ignore mom smile at us and looking amused.
"Okay from your last check up and some details from the last few, it seems like the changes to your body are slowing down at the moment." Aoki said, gettin a relieved sigh from mom and myself. "Of course it could change again, although we have continue to focus on your subdermal plating growth and the change in your cells."
I winced at that while mom and Erika looked concerned.
More than likely at the later issue, over a third of my skeleton is covered in the metallic plating now. Mainly covering my shins, feet, hands, forearms, rib cage, sternum, and skull in uneven growths. My spines, clavicle, and shoulder blades are fully covered. Slow growth but constant monitoring for any issues.
No it was the changes in my cells and something noticed in the exam earlier this week...
"Are you certain that it is harmless?" Mom said, getting Dr. Tōga to nod.
"Yes it is, seems quite familiar yet can't point it out. But is is affecting their ability to thermoregulate them and the changes to his hypothalamus to acclimate to his new body temperature. Seen similar symptoms in those whose Quirks produce a higher body temperature such as Dr. Ashford or similar cases to Kaiju and Dr. Shiragami. Just another side effect of the changes, but if you have any heat flashes at all let us know." He said seriously.
"I-I will." I said with a sigh.
As of the latest check up my regular body temperature was found to have risen to 43.5°C, higher than normal. And unless someone's Quirk granted them some work of way to regulate or endure the strain, that temperature would usually lead to brain damage or a fatal fever in a human unless treated. N-Nearly gave mom quite a scare when she first found out about it. Guess it was just one more side effect from the changes and most Kaiju's internal body temperature where comparable to nuclear reactors...which they were basically living-
"Izuku, breathe." Erika said, breaking me from my thoughts as I felt her vine brush against my cheek.
I-I really need to get a handle on my muttering...
"Maybe you do, but I don't mind it all that much." Erika said with a small smile as I tried to look away from her.
"Y-You've already said that a few times." I said while trying to keep my face from heating up.
"And I mean it every time." Erika said, getting my face to turn red in embarrassment and I think I heard mom holding back a squeal as I hide my face in embarrassment.
E-Every time this past week...every time....
P-Peaking through my fingers I saw no beaming at us with tears in her eyes while Aoki and Yujiro looked amused as the latter shook his head.
"Okay enough of that, Dr. Shiragami's results showed that she is stable...well as stable as our observations showed that she could could be." Yujiro said, changing the subject and I give him a thankful nod. "Other than that report any changes and we'll do the same with the new samples."
"But if you have any other questions feel free to ask...except for more information about the Cánshén Temple. If you haven't heard anything else from Deputy Director Graham and no one else has told me anything, there is nothing more to discuss at the moment." Aoki said, getting me to nod as I put away my newest notebook.
Hearing about the temple was honestly astonishing when we first heard about it the day after the entrance exams.
A gold mine of information from an age barely documented, an actual civilization thriving in the shadows of Kaiju thousands of years ago just a sea across from us. Including more species of Kaiju than I think the rest of the world outside of Monarch currently know.
Of course it probably wasn't everything they learned from the site, but most of the general details...including how it ended...
T-To think that due to Ghidorah's action lead to an entire swath of mainland Asia becoming devastated in what was essentially a species war between Gojira and this new species Bagan. The alien Kaiju's storms on his own battered the world, destroyed Skull Island's ecosystem beyond repair centuries later, and leveled cities on his own without even going to mention the Kaiju he brought under his thrall before the Battle of Boston.
O-One of the most destructive events during the Age of Kaiju...yet it seemingly paled in comparison to the damage it brought by causing a species rivaling Gorjira to go on a rampage...
B-Best not to think about it...O-Or the ancestor still on ice in Antarctica...
J-Just best not to think of it at all...
I took in a breath and shook my head to clear my thoughts before letting out a sigh.
Still the information was more than helpful in my newest notebook...which is already about half filled with the information and what I had accumulated from Monarch or already knew about.
"Then what about who else will be assigned to this outpost? I believe that it should have been at least cleared up by now?" Mom asked, getting both Aoki and Yujiro to sigh.
"That is correct Ms. Midoriya, let's just say Director Serizawa is doing some shuffling around with HR among other things. Dr. Shiragami's arrival put a few issues on the back burner. That and any hematology staff that could replace myself before transferring to Aomori Prefecture...are less inclined to work with her." Yujiro said, getting Erika to let out a growl.
"So they were around before I regained my human form?" Erika inquired irritably as Yujiro nodded.
S-She did snap at a lot of people back then.
"Honestly I did bring about a good portion of Monorch's hematologists in both human and Kaiju blood on board. Word spreads fast. Honestly Dr. Ashford is also qualified to work with human blood..." Yujiro trailed off with a shudder.
"Yet she is literally the last option even supervised. Agent Ashford is also a candidate, but he hasn't earned his medical degree yet." Aoki said, surprising all three of us.
H-He was trying to earn a medical degree, he didn't really seem like the type. B-But then again you can't judge a book by its cover.
Though Erika seemed more amused by the thought, letting out a growl in her throat as mom regained her composure.
"S-So is there anyone besides those two that are willing to be assuaged here?" I asked.
"Actually an old college of mine, Dr. Byrne. He was last assigned in India for the longest time and has been looking forward to a lighter workload for a while. He specializes in Kaiju blood like me and has branched into genetics a little bit. Has kind of a fascination Kaiju and likes to figure out how their abilities work, just a heads up." Yujiro said, getting Erika to let out a growl.
"Noted." She said irritably.
"Otherwise we have two other members in mind for the outpost, but it will be a while before they can be assigned here." Aoki said before fluttering his wings with a grin. "So I take it that you both are waiting for your examination results all week."
"Yes." I said honestly while Erika just shrugged.
"He's been anxious any day now for when it could arrive, I suppose we both are. Yet no matter the results may be, I'm proud of the both of them." Mom said with a smile, getting my face to flush and both me and Erika to smile.
"T-Thank/Thank you." Both me and Erika said at the same time.
Mom beamed at us and I felt Erika tighten her vines around me some more. I was just thankful enough to not restrict my breathing again...
Once again Aoki and Yujiro just looked amused at this while the former shook his head with a grin.
"Each person you goes under the entrance exams gets a personalized holographic message recorded for them. Considering the sheer amount of examinees from all over Japan, it takes days to record and edit everything before shipping out. And there is also the matter if students transfers of backs out...honestly I had to help edit so many of them this week." Aoki sighed out as his wings drooped a little.
"I was wondering about that, didn't they ship out yesterday?" Yujiro asked.
"Day before, but started to get delivered to examinees yesterday. Honestly it should still be awhile, besides there is a few hours left for delivery. Still there might be a chance it comes out later today...but don't bother asking me for details. Aside from confidentiality, I'm not sure that I even worked on them." Aoki said.
"It's fine, neither of us would have asked anyway." Erika said to which I nodded.
"Y-Yes, it just wouldn't feel right otherwise." I said with a smile.
"I would imagine that." Agent Kazuma said with a smile as he entered the room. "Anyways I hate to interrupt, but Dr. Tōga Director Serizawa is called to remind you you of the meeting with all department heads. He called incase the check up was running longer than anticipated."
"No, I believe that it was about done anyway." Yujiro said as he got up.
Followed suit by everyone else in the room...more like Erika lifting me up with her vines before setting my feet on the ground.
W-We had been here long enough...
A-And I really want to see if the results had been delivered or not.
"Alright, if any chance happens Ms. Midoriya please contact us immediately. Otherwise we will see you in a week." Aoki said, getting mom to nod as the three of us began to leave.
T-That was right, the first semester of U.A. High was about to start just in a little over a week...that is if I did well enough on the exams.
I-I probably did, but there is only one way to find out now...
(3rd POV - A minute later)
"And they should have exiting the building right now, surprised none of the Ashfords didn't but in." Yujiro said, entirely meaning Alfred.
He had butted in while drawing blood from Izuku just to say hello...by starting the boy from out of his vision.
At least he was smart enough to know the risks of repeating the same thing with Erika and the potential results it could cause if he took his eyes off Alexia while she was working.
The hematologist had to feel a little sorry for the boy since both twins seemed to take an interest to him, Alfred a new target to mess with for his amusement and in Alexia curiosity alongside Erika. He didn't know which was worse.
Yujiro was starting to agree with Aizawa that he was a trouble magnet.
"They're getting a call from their father, a rare time. But...well it has to deal with a subject of the meeting. Not going to spoil that." Agent Kazama said, getting both Yujiro and Aoki to ponder what he meant.
Until Aoki let out a chuckle.
"So that's what is going on, honestly since Dr. Graham got promoted it was a long time coming for the doc." He said while stretching his wings.
"That it has, man's too kind to a fault. He should have accepted the position years ago." Yujiro said with a fanged grin.
Well, he'll still pretend to be surprised when the subject came up.
"Indeed." Kazama said as he turned to Yujiro. "So you intend to have Dr. Byrne take your place eventually?"
"He is getting up in his years and probably like a change of scenery before retiring. Aoki had originally suggested Dr. Lazzari, but Director Serizawa has him working as a headliner for the Cánshén Temple's findings...if he could still gain clearance to operate in Myanmar." Yujiro said with a smile.
Dr. Byrne by himself was considered average by the standards of a Monarch researchers. His only real claims to fame were his fondness of Dante Inferno and discovery of the regenerative qualities of the blood of Titanus Salunga.
A Kaiju whose fossil# was first discovered in India around 16 years ago after the Age of Kaiju ended. Name was practically derived from Sharanga, the bow of the Hindu god Vishnu and the arc shaped pattern along the forehead on the skull.
Later fossil specimens revealed a cross between a simian and reptilian Kaiju whose size was considered small by most Kaiju yet was bigger than small skyscrapers.
Nothing all that remarkable, except for when they actually found a fossilized specimen with some preserved blood nine years ago and Dr. Byrne's discovery.
That it was highly regenerative, being described as the closet thing to Ghidorah's own healing factor on Earth albeit limited. Still bound by Earth's biological laws yet fastest healing among natural Earthborn Kaiju except Gorjira.
His experience with regenerative blood and association with the Ashford's father would make him an excellent choice to take over his duties once Yujiro transferred out.
Dr. Lazzari was also a qualified candidate, but his talents were more than qualified in piecing together the environment of the information of the Cánshén Temple...that and his ties with one of the agents being brought to the outpost nit was probably best to be separated for now...
"Like changing your suggestions for both Agents Sakaki and Tani being stationed here." Agent Kazama said, getting Aoki to groan.
"Well I've been out of loop, honestly things could have been avoid easily." He said with his wings twitching. "Already correcting that mistake. Last I knew from Director Serizawa both Agents Tani and Yamane should be cleared up of everything just a little bit after the year starts."
"Which Agent Yamane, there is about three of them in service." Yujiro said.
"The second youngest one. And if anything else happens, Agent Shinjo has been assigned as a back up to be called in." Aoki said, getting both Kazama and Yujiro to nod.
"Good choice speaking of which, they'll actually be arriving on a plane in three days with Dr. Lazzari, Agent Emerson, and Gramps here to Japan. Also just learned this from the Director." Kazama said, surprising the other two.
"So Gramps is coming here or just to Japan in general, haven't seen him in person since December." Aoki said with a smile.
"Stopping by in general to make write an article, the Director has Agent Shinjo with him due to the current unease since this morning." Kazama explained, while Yujiro chuckled.
"That old man covered war zones during the open bloodiest conflicts of the last century, he wouldn't be put off by this. Probably just someone to talk to during the flight and trip." The hematologist said with a grin. "He hasn't changed his tune at all since retirement, but I thought Dr. Lazzari was still at the Cánshén Temple?"
"Director is putting him on a brief assignment in Japan, with the Ashfords since they get along." Kazama said seriously, getting Aoki to sit up straight.
He could only think of one reason.
"So Director Serizawa has approved it, I thought it would take a while longer." Aoki said.
"Given the number of dead ends, it got bumped up the list according to the director. Best way to settle the rumors of Dr. Mizuno once and for all." Kazama said with a sigh.
"Good, best way to get it out there." Yujiro said as he stood up and began to gather his things. "Better get started on the meeting."
With a wave he took his things and exited the room, intending to join the meeting a little early to catch up with some of his colleges. Afterwards heading back home and checking on his niece.
(Izuku POV - Midoriya Family Apartment - A few hours later)
A-Anytime now, it could arrive at any time now!
O-Or it could arrive tomorrow or the next...or the day after that-
I quickly shook my head to clear my thought. It would be no use to get anxious while waiting...once again...like I have been waiting for all week.
Thankfully mom and Erika has helped eased most of it while waiting for results.
Like I had promised them both I had mainly taken it easy for a few days, only starting back up to my regular training yesterday. Aside from that as I promised I have been taking things easy...they have both been making sure of that.
Aside from that most of the week when I wasn't at school was helping Erika adjust more to the modern era. Not by studying this time, by actually going and experience it what was in Musutafu.
Shopping, eating out, sightseeing, or just relaxing in some of the parks including Dagobah without anything in mind except just enjoying things. When I wasn't still taking classes in Aldera of course.
T-Tomorrow should be the final day for classes now that the results from the finals have been released.
Things have been alright there for now and both me and Kacchan have been keeping to ourselves. Knowing Kacchan, he was guaranteed a place in the heroics course. Hopefully if it does arrive he'll be a good mood.
B-Beside that Erika seemed to enjoy just being about in the city a lot, which was perhaps the best part of the week for me. Just seeing her happy helped my worries a little...
Of course most of the time mom was there too, All Might less so. More or less busy finishing closing up his agency and preparing to start at U.A.. I was at least glad he got to spend sometime with mom this week.
Of course there was one thing this week that helped eased my worries...well sometimes...
I was broken from my thought as my phone vibrated on my desk.
Speaking of which.
I turned it on, already having an idea of who it was.
Tokage: Hey green bean, snapdragon guess what, it came today! Did you two get your results too?
T-That was texting with someone else, especially a girl...well two now.
Monarch provided a phone for Erika a few days ago...after going through a few different models that didn't snap in half by accident, scratch up the screen by accident, or short them out with her sap...
Outside of communication with Tokage and mom, Erika didn't even use it.
M-Mainly using my own phone initially, with Tokage mainly texting about her day, trading Kaiju fact, or if she was just board. Adding in Erika to the conversation once she got her phone.
I-It was kind of nice, to be able to talk with someone like this...if I don't really know how to handle it sometimes...
Erika: Shouldn't have told you that, stop calling me that.
Tokage: Nope.
Me: And you calling me green bean again?
Tokage: Hadn't settled on what to nickname you yet.
I swore I could hear Erika let out an irritated growl from across the apartment at that.
S-She had finally settled on deciding Snapdragon as the name of her 'Quirk', getting irritated if someone other than mom or myself mentioned it. Not sure when Tokage managed to get the name out of Erika, but she out out a small roar the first time I saw the nickname.
A-As for myself, Tokage constantly cycled through nicknames in text. Says it's a thing she does for her friends.
Considering she continues to nickname Erika snapdragon, I could believe it.
Me: Anyway congratulations, were they what you hoped for?
Tokage: Got that right green bean, I passed! Still you two hadn't gotten your results back.
Erika: No
Me: Hopefully we we get them soon. Still congratulations Tokage.
Tokage: Thanks, I do hope you both find out soon. Things wouldn't be as interesting in U.A. without you two there.
Erika: That would make one of us.
Before I could think of a response there was suddenly a loud bang coming from the living room.
"I-Izuku! E-Erika! T-They're here! They came!" I heard mom shout, before my eyes widened. "They're here!"
T-The letters, they were here!
F-Finally!
Me: Our letters just got here, talk latter.
Tokage: No problem, can't wait!
Quickly pocketing my phone I exited my room and speed into the living room to see mom clutching two letter and Erika's spores gathering around. Mom waved a hand as the light in the living room turned off, leaving the only light coming from the kitchen and Erika's spores.
"C-Come here." Mom said with a smile as she placed the letters on the coffee table and sat at the end. I rushed to sit at one side while Erika reformed next to me. "So who wants to open their letter first?"
"W-What about you Erika, do you want to go first?" I asked her, trembling from both excitement and nervousness.
I-I was happy to have gotten the letter, I was anxious on what the results could be.
Only managing to score 19 points, I hope that it was enough to even qualify for the hero course. If not then for the general course where it will take a bit longer for me to get the chance to switch.
H-Honestly I need-
"Izuku we already know the letter is more of a formality than anything for me." Erika said, breaking me out of my thoughts with her vine nuzzling against my cheek.
L-Looking to see her smile at me, my letter in hand.
"Besides, you've been waiting for this much longer than I have. So you open your's first Izuku." She said, her vine wrapping around me and giving my letter to me.
I-I hesitated for a moment before nodding and taking the letter from her hand. Looking back at her than at mom whose e had tears in her eyes and looked to be holding back a squeal.
T-Taking a breath to steady myself before grasping the letter.
Ripping it in half and catching a grey metallic disk with a button. Pressing it before laying it down on the table as the center lit up.
"I'm here as a projection!" All Might shouted, his face appearing on a projected screen before backing up to reveal a background similar to the auditorium at the entrance exams.
"A-All Might/Toshinori!" Me and mom both said in surprise before I regained my composure.
Right, he was going to become a teacher at U.A.. So he was probably going to have done some of the recordings.
"Apologies if I haven't been around as much as I would have preferred Young Midoriya, been quite busy with paperwork. Ignore this part if I am with you at the moment." All Might said as he took a step back from the screen. "You passed the written exam with flying colors. As for the practical exam, you managed to score a total of 19 villain points. A decent scoring, nonetheless not enough to qualify for hero course. Enough to earn you a spot in the general course since you haven't applied to it."
With that I looked down, gripping my pant legs and sighed.
T-Thought as much...
I was so close...I will just have to train harder until I can get the chance-
"Of course if there was everything to it!" All Might's projection said, breaking me from my thoughts. Getting me to look at it in shock as he grinned.
W-Wait what?!
"First a video, as your own words perfectly summarized everything." All Might said as he pulled out a remote and pressed a button.
A small screen to his right flickered to show a records. One I recognized almost immediately.
My question I asked to Present Mic in the assembly before the practical exam.
"Lucky Examinee Number 2234, we're all ears! What is your question?" Present Mic said, getting me to gulp.
There was a few moments of silence on screen before I took in a breath.
"T-That what are we supposed to do with the villains and what were they doing" I asked. "Y-You said that this was to dispatch them. L-Like if they were created by a villain or just malfunctioning and the area has been evacuated before hand? I-I know that heros don't always get accurate information on the scene...so I was justing for context." I said, sinking into my seat.
Hearing some scoffs and some of the examinees looked at me curiously as I shook like a leaf under the spotlight.
Present Mic pressed a hand against his ear before focusing on me again.
"An excellent question Number 2234, now answer me this one listener? Why does it matter?" Present Mic said.
Seeing myself take in another breath before gaining a what I could describe as a mix of determination and nervousness.
"I-It matters if we should just incapacitate them or not, to limit the damage to both them and the city incase anyone else was there. H-Heros are supposed to do more than just fight villains, they are supposed to help others too." I said, slumping back in my chair.
The screen flickered off on the projection, the camera focusing back on All Might. Whose grin shifted into a big smile.
"Young Midoriya I believe I should stop setting expectations for you, you keep shattering them." All Might said. "I could be prouder to hear those words."
"That would make two of us!" Mom said with a smile, tears streaming from her eyes.
"T-Thank you mom." I said with a small smile, tears forming in the corners of my eyes. Still trying to process everything as Erika snuck a closer to me.
"Yet I'm an entertainer, let's watch another video." All Might said as he pulled out the remote and the small screen flickered again.
Showing a video of what looked like inside U.A. of Present Mic setting in what I guess was a lounge area and...
"U-Uraraka?" I said, seeing her walking up to the hero.
"Um...Excuse me?" Uraraka said, getting his attention as the screen paused.
"She came to negotiate directly in person after the exam. Negotiate what?" All Might said while holding up a finger and leaning forward. "Keep watching to find out!"
The small screen seemed to fast forward a bit, seeing Uraraka talking with Present Mic near some windows.
"Um, the boy with the green hair and freckles. Do you know who I'm talking about, he looked to have spines stretching under the back of his shirt..." Uraraka said, pondering for a moment before her expression lit up. "Midoriya, that's his name. Can you please give him some of my points?"
At this I just blinked in shock at what I heard.
S-She was willing to give her own points to me? I-I don't know how to react to that...
Neither did Erika as she tilted her head at the projection.
"I know he could have probably gotten more points if he didn't stop to rescue me." Uraraka said as she brought a hand to her chest. "If he doesn't have enough points, then he can have some of mine. We could be excepted into the general course and earn our place into the hero course."
Uraraka closed her eyes and looked like she was on the verge of shout.
"He saved my life, so please!" Uraraka shouted out as the video was paused.
S-So I can guess that this was were she was while I was waiting for Erika...
I-I don't know what to say to that...except thank you Uraraka...but I was just happy to see you alright and knowing that you made it to the heroic course...
B-But still, thank you...
I stiffened as Erika's vines constricted around me, looking to see her shaking her head with a smile.
"You are already quite the hero." Erika said as I nodded.
"M-Maybe, but I still have a lot to learn to truly become one." I said with a small smile before looking at the projection.
"Despite your new Quirk and changes to your body, Young Midoriya you continue to show that in your chest beats the heart of a true hero. Your actions inspiring others and your words speaking the truth of heroics." All Might declared with a grin, making a 'x' with his hands. "The exam is not just graded with villain points! As you declared, heros help others too! Why punish and reject examinees for the heroics course? Where we risk our lives to do the right thing and save others! That's why there is also rescue points!"
R-Rescue points...I think I can see why they weren't mentioned.
The villains were meant to gauge your combat, the rescue points were to measure our character.
If someone didn't get enough villain points, but also rescue other examinees without being told to do so they held a better chance to pass while showing a qualification to be a hero.
Granted someone could theoretically have 0 of each points, but yet hold enough of the other to pass...but how are rescue points measured?
"Rescue points are measured by a panel of seven of the facility, which I was not a member of the judging panel." All Might said.
O-Okay that answers that.
The small screen unpaused again as Present Mic just shook his head with a grin.
"Sorry, even if you ask little listener we can't reassign points like that." Present Mic said. Uraraka looked like she wanted to protest, but he raised his hand in front of her. "But there is no need for it anyways. Trust me, I know he will definitely pass."
Uraraka looked at him for a moment before nodding as the video on the small screen ending.
"For your selfless effort for her and helping your fellow examinees you've been rewarded quite the sum of rescue points!" All Might said as the small screen briefly showed me helping the purple haired examinee with the auditory suggestion Quirk and...well I guess jumpstarting the electrokinetic Quirk examinee. "67 rescue points!"
6-67 rescue points!
C-Combine that with the villain points, that would be-
"Izuku Midoriya! With 19 villain points and 67 rescue points, for a total of 86 points! You came the closest to earning full rescue points than any other examinees in the past decade!" All Might declared with a grin. "And if you were wondering, Young Uraraka also scored 45 rescue points. You both pass!"
I-I was happy to hear that we both made it in...but still...
"T-This is just too crazy..." I said with a smile as tears started to stream from my eyes as mom began to ran over to us.
"Come Young Midoriya, this is your hero academia!" All Might said, with a grin before placing his hand behind his back. "Also can you and Erika please not mention I'm teaching to anyone else now, still supposed to be a surprise. Also I was supposed to reveal it to the top scorer for the entrance exam, but managed to wrap it all up in one take."
"W-Wait what?" I said as the projection ended.
Before I could even think of a reply, Erika pressed herself against me as mom hugged me.
"I'm so proud of you, sweetie!" Mom sniffed out as tears flowed from her eyes. "Izuku after all this time, one step closer to becoming a hero. And I'll be there to support your dream."
"T-Thank you, mom." I cried out, my tears starting to flow out like mom's. "I-I finally got it! A-And I couldn't have done it without everyone helping me..." I said with a smile.
G-Going to have to send out a few messages in a bit.
W-Without everyone helping me, I'm not sure I would have made it this far..
B-But I finally did it...I'm going to be attending U.A. soon...
I-I am just...so happy...
"Let it out Izuku, let it out." Erika said, placing a hand on my back and as her vine nuzzled against me as I continued to cry out tears of happiness.
After all this time, I finally reached it.
The first real step to become a hero.
(A few minutes later)
"Are you okay now?" Erika asked as I nodded, wiping away the last of my tears.
T-Took a few minutes for me and mom to finally stop crying...and to clean the puddles forming on the floor...more so mom than me...
E-Erika wasn't letting me go from her vines again, mom tired to pry me out with a crowbar for a minute before giving up...
"I-I am." I said while taking a breath as one of Erika's vines picked up her letter. "Are you ready to open yours. I know you were guaranteed an opening, but aren't you curious about how you did?"
She paused for a moment before letting out a small growl from her throat, extending a single claw from her finger. Before ripping it open with a grin.
"Well, then let's find out." Erika said as the projection clattered onto the desk.
Pressing it with her vine, retracting it as the device flared to life.
"Hello listener!" Present Mic shouted on the projected screen, getting both me and Erika to cover our ears as they rang a little. "Normally Nezu would handle the projections of the recommended students, but he was half worried that you would be tempted to snap at the projection."
The way Erika growled at the protection screen, it was probably for the best Indidn't confirm if she was tempted or not...
"I'll keep things short, Erika congratulations! If you weren't already guaranteed a spot and without the opening spots Nezu opened you would have already been a shoe in for entry. Admittedly at fourth place, can't really fault you but I would recommend brushing up your history some more. You only had about a week, but I'm sure hitting the books will fix that issue pretty quick." Present Mic said, getting Erika to nod at that.
"Fair enough." Erika said with a shrug as I smiled at her.
Even without being guaranteed a spot, she did well enough to have earned a spot along the other recommendation students like Tokage.
"Best to keep things short, everything you'll both need is in the letter. Other than that, see ya next semester!" Present Mic said as he waved as the projection ended.
"W-Well he did said it would be short." I said as Erika looked at the projector with what I could best describe as a dead pan as her vines loosened around my finally.
Letting out a sigh of relief as one of her vines fished out some papers from her letter while I found some more lying in one half of the letter I had ripped apart. Which Erika showed alongside my own once I unfolded it.
S-Skimming through both papers we would both be in the same classes with our home room being Class 1-A. I-I had thought it could end up like this...but to actually think of going to U.A. with her...
I-I was just so happy.
S-So was Erika judging by the way she wrapped her vines around me and hugged me...she was not going to let me go anytime soon...
A sentiment mom seemed to share as she hugged us from behind.
"I'm so proud of the both of you!" Mom said as tears welled up in her eyes. One of Erika's vines reaching for a tissue box. Which mom levitated one to dry her tears with a smile. "Thank you dear. I'm going to call Toshinori about the news than order food to celebrate. I take it you two would like to order out the fish katsudon again?"
Erika's growling was possibly the answer enough for the both of us, getting both mom and I to look at her. Her face looking a little red.
"Yes, I think I would like that please." She admitted, looking away.
"Yes, please." I said, getting mom to nod before giggling.
"Of course and wipe your mouths you two." Mom said as she walked away to make the call.
W-What did she mean by that...oh...
I wiped my mouth of a little drool as Erika wiped away the sap from her mouth.
That was new, I've never drooled over fish before...
Erika looked amused at this as I looked away, her letting out a series of growls in her throat.
"As amusing as this is, you're pretty excited for next week Izuku." Erika said with a smile as her vine nuzzled against me.
"F-For the first time in quite a long time actually. Not just it's because it is U.A. or my dream alone." I admitted with a small smile, getting Erika to tilt her head. "I-I'll get to meet those I do hope to become friends with. A-And I'll be going there with you too...after these past few months I guess it would feel strange to think about going there without you now."
Meant everything I said...for a long time now every school year I guess I haven't have much reason to look forward to it all that much.
Everything started to blend together after a while now that I think about it...
But things were different now...I was actually looking forward to meeting new people.
A-Alongside going with Erika.
A sentiment she seemed to share as she growled and her face looked a little red like my own...
"Something that I am looking forward to, along with hopefully meeting Yaoyorozu again hopefully." Erika said with a smile, before shaking her head. "Along with Tokage too. Didn't you promise her to text her the results?"
"R-Right, can you please-" I tried to say, but Erika's vines unraveled enough for my arm to pass through. "T-Thanks." I said with a smile, stretching my fingers to regain feeling in them. "To think that it is only a week away..."
After 10 months of training to even qualify, a week just seems like so short yet so far away...
"But it will be here sooner than you can imagine Izuku, and yes you were muttering again." Erika said, getting my face to flush in embarrassment as I nodded.
Yet she's right, it will be sooner than either of us can imagine. Especially since tomorrow is my final day at Aldera.
After that I'll be looking forward to starting at U.A. with Erika. Alongside meeting up with Uraraka and Tokage again. Hoping to also meet Akatani, Koda, Yaoyorozu, Ida, and Shishida too.
They were all nice and I hope to see them again.
In a week everything will begin for us becoming hero, just like All Might said.
That this is my-
No.
This is the start of our hero academia.
(3rd POV - ??? - Later at Night - 7 days until the school year starts)
"I see you're finally awake." Kurogiri said, polishing a glass as the main occupant of the safe house/rundown apartment stirred.
"Wha..." Batto Yobayakawa groaned at as he shook his head, one hand clutching his head as he took a look at his surroundings. "Where am I..."
"Your temporary home for the next few days and base of operations, I'll be your chauffeur and broker in the mean time." Kurogiri said as he placed the glass on the counter.
Allowing Yobayakawa to regain his composure before the Next-Level Villain snarled at him.
"You were there with Kokuyōsenki and that skinny looking punk!" He roared out before jumping and gliding to strike at Kurogiri.
Only to fly through a bank of black fog, emerging and slamming face first into the floor.
Kurogiri sighed as he dispelled the fog, having expected such a result.
"I can understand Kokuyōsenki, but do not insult my young charge again." Kurogiri said as Yobayakawa picked himself off the ground, an edge in his voice. "Thanks to him you are not rotting in a cell Ike you would have been. And you are all healed up now, no experimentation or anything of the like."
The bat like villain stood up and than took notice that the injuries he got in the break out, except for now a splitting headache.
"Fine then, but the next time I se that bitch I'll flay her alive!" He growled out before glaring at Kurogiri. "And I doubt it about the No experimentation. I have no hang ups with what you lot did to my body, but I'm not going through that shit again!"
"So you suspect that we are connected to the Villain Factory?" Kurogiri asked while pulling out another glass.
"Kokuyōsenki and the smells, someone flushed my nose with the same chemicals the last time where I woke up chained in a delivery truck!" He growled out.
"I see." Kurogiri said as sighed out. "Well there is nothing to worry about, we only patched you up. You have better uses elsewhere, why do you think that you are not chained up."
And he meant it, all they had needed from Yobayakawa was his blood and plenty of it had been extracted. What they needed from him now was just a bit of chaos.
Yobayakawa frowned as he indeed noticed there was nothing visible keeping him here aside from the strange man and his fog. He could see a few openings where he could escape if given an opportunity.
But he wasn't taking his chances just yet.
"Fine, sounds like you have a job for me." He said, not pleased with the option but it would probably be better for his overall safety.
"Indeed, nothing more than a few smash and grab jobs over the next few days. The first one is scheduled in a few hours. All routes and best times plotted for you. Upon completion, you will be greatly rewarded." Kurogiri said, getting Yobayakawa to scoff as he placed down the glass and pulled onto the counter a small brief case.
Flipping it open, Kurogiri knew he immediately had the Next-Level Villain's attention.
For it contained multiple syringes of Trigger.
"Ideo Trigger, just a few more than the amount you originally had pumped into your system post the original Next-Level operation." Kurogiri said as Yobayakawa reached for the contents, before slamming it shut. "You will get some of the syringes as your speed is necessary for the jobs, the remainder of the case will be given at the end of them. Alongside a chance for revenge."
"Revenge?" Yobayakawa asked as Kurogiri slid him a folder, the villain opening it and looking only to see a map and a picture. "Her, what does she have to do anything?"
"They are connected to the one who defeated you before the operation, the one who you wished for revenge is now across the seas. So imagine this as the next best chance." Kurogiri said as he pulled out a bottle of Kinkuro shochu. "Admittedly there will be a number of heros in the area from what I could gather.
"A risk I will gladly take." Yobayakawa said with a grin, fully sold in on the idea.
While he doubted he could get revenge on the so called 'Destructor of Naruhata' a continent away, well this was possibly the next best thing! Throw in the chance of that damned turtle being there, all the better.
Kurogiri shook his head as he opened the bottle and began to pour in the glasses.
"Of course you cloud always just fly away after the jobs, but if you take this revenge or not is up to you. You get to fly away no strings attached and 5% of the profits from the jobs succeeded. Enough to lay low, but expect nothing else." Kurogiri said, sliding one glass to Yobayakawa.
Who gleefully took it and raised it in the air.
"Fair enough, but I'll take what I can get! Still to our temporary partnership!" He yelled out as Kurogiri nodded as both took a drink.
With Kurogiri looking amused as the bat like villain made a grimace from the drink before taking a sip.
Perhaps it seemed like it was a bit too rich for his tastes.
Yet, everything seems to be going according to the plan so far.
(Chapter 18 end)
Hey guys Mukuro7 here and I hoped that you all enjoyed this chapter.
Originally I had planned it to be much longer, but I decided to split it in half to focus on some of my other stories for a bit and I'll release the other half sometime before the year is out...or the first week of 2024 tops.
Yet the results are in, Izuku has scored 86 points making him number one on the exam. I've seen some where at this point with his control of One for All usually leads to him having just around a high of a score or points in the 130's. Granted most of them were a massive amount of either villain or rescue points. Still a few extra points from helping others around scoring a decent amount on his own.
Aside from that the progress on the changes in his body have slowed down for the moment. Other than that his body temperature is now at levels potentially fatal for most of the population, not much.
He and Erika mainly had the week to relax after everything has happened, well deserved although he is going to find some chaos soon. Albeit beneficial.
Anyway on Monarch's and the villain's side things have been busy.
For Monarch as things are slow with the Cánshén Temple, so they are progressing on other things including staffing the outpost at U.A. some of the characters might be obvious to trace where they are from in the Godzilla fandom. Going to introduce one of them next chapter, and a character I have actually been looking forward to write for a long time.
And with the lack of progress means Director Serizawa has green lit the investigation of Dr. Mizuno to silence the centuries old rumor of him taking samples of Erika's blood. Will it turn up fruitful or not...we'll see.
And for the villains, Shigaraki runs an errand for All for One as a prison break. Starting to get some renown while also gathering some subjects for Project Kodoku, gaining some experience in leading his 'party' before unleashing them and his 'mobs'.
Alongside All for One organizing a new smaller plan using an old asset and Kurogiri as a proxy.
For those not in the know Batto Yobayakawa, he is a minor villain from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. A villain who has a converted into a Next-Level Villain by All for One's pet project, as described a surgical process and a prototype operation of the Nomu. Aside from a fully intact mind and altered appearance, his body can safely process fatal amounts of Trigger to enhance his abilities.
Who All for One planes to use as a tool to fulfill a few goals and just to spite All Might.
How so, we'll all will be revealed next chapter.
Before we get into that, a few things to say.
For the first, thanks to you all this is my second story on Wattpad to have surpassed 100k views, couldn't have done it without all of your continued support.
Secondly perfect time to be a Godzilla fan between Godzilla Minus One and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Although anyone know where the watch the later not of Apple TV? Don't have it, but any information is appreciated.
Anyway that should be all for now.
Next chapter Alder is getting its dues, and All Might's and Aizawa's idea is revealed. Along with set up with what to finish up this small arc before U.A. starts. Hope you all enjoy it when it comes out.
So until next time, ciao!
