░ Chapter Thirteen

Namjoon rubbed his eyes, placing the magnifying glass on the table. It was already past midnight and he was wondering what time the three would be back home.

It was at that time when Jungkook walked out of his room. Namjoon frowned. "Can't sleep?"

The younger only shrugged, his usual response to almost every question. "The others are not home yet?" he asked.

The leader shook his head. "I'm about to call Tae to check on them."

He nodded before his attention got caught up with what was set up on the table. "What are you doing, boss?" Jungkook asked, his eyes focused on the jade stone that they recently stole.

"I'm just studying this one before we turn it over to our client. I noticed that this 'Fuyuwan' looked the same as the Beauté Rose. I looked at it carefully and it seems like it's embedded on the same rock as the Beauté Rose, and also had some ancient symbols and writings on the side."

Jungkook tilted his head and crossed his arms and he studied the stone in question. "That seems suspicious to me. Do you know why they're collecting these stuff, boss?"

The leader shrugged. "They didn't say and I'm not planning to ask. But we'll have to see. Anyway, we have the Beauté Rose so whatever they wanted to do, they can't really do it if they don't have that, right?" The youngest in their group nodded in agreement. Namjoon sighed, picking up his phone. "We'll talk more about that later when the others are here. For now, we have to make sure that they'll get home safe."

Jungkook made a grunting noise in response and moved to get his jacket from the coat rack. "I'll get them. They're probably too drunk to drive now."

Namjoon smiled at this. Jungkook always ended up driving the three home from their parties. And sometimes, just Taehyung because his brother would get too crazy when drunk.

"I can't believe I'm doing this!" Jin muttered under his breath as he helped Yoongi organize all the things he would be needing. Jihyun, who was watching the two with so much amusement, laughed.

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "You know that I'm not really stealing it, hyung. And if we don't get to it first, that 'Master' will still steal it."

"Not stealing, my ass. You are gonna sketch a robbery and steal the damn thing, Yoongi. It's still stealing. Theft. Crime. AND I'M A CAPTAIN OF A PRECINCT BUT HERE I AM."

Yoongi sighed for the hundredth time that day. "Look, I told you that you don't have to help me. But you still did. So really, what's with all the complaints?"

"Because I know that your dumbass will not survive, you little shit."

"Hey! I'm the best detective in Seoul. Wouldn't that automatically make me the best criminal as well, if, you know, I had gone the wrong path?" Yoongi retorted, hiding his smirk. He was simply teasing Jin.

And it was successful. "Yah! You insolent child. What did I tell you in the beginning, huh? DO. NOT. COMMIT. CRIME. I knew this would happen. Ugh, I JUST KNEW. You were too obsessed with Rem and now you're in love with one of his goons. I just knew you had some crime kink going on."

Ah, that went too far. Yoongi scowled heartily, absolutely disgusted with the accusations. "Are you insane, hyung? Look, I'm doing this because I have to. To prevent the bad guys, not become one."

Jin only raised his eyebrow.

"Plus, we already did our research and you know that the owner of that jewelry shop is an ass. We're not really hurting someone innocent here." Yoongi added while he stretched the head mask that he'd be wearing.

"It's still robbery, Yoongs."

Yoongi pursed his lips because yes, it's still robbery. And he hated himself for needing to do this.

But this was the only way.

"Well whatever. It's already past 11 pm. It's time."

Jin sighed and Jihyun clapped in excitement.

Jihyun reassured Yoongi that he had already hacked the system and turned off the cameras, both in the shop and on the streets. They only had so much time left before someone would notice and try to fix it. For the meantime, Jihyun would try to block their attempts and keep the cams off. The alarm was still on as it would alert the security of the jewelry shop if ever they'd turn it off. Yoongi didn't really have time thinking of ways to go around that. He was not a criminal, after all.

Yoongi had to do this fast.

And with the right timing.

He wore his 'thief costume', finding himself crouched behind a garbage can. It was already past midnight and the streets were empty, except for the guards that were stationed outside the jewelry shop for the night shift. Yoongi could totally relate to them.

It was to his advantage that the object in question, which was a beautiful gold pearl, was displayed near the glass windows. It was not for sale. Instead, the said pearl was only for display.

When Yoongi first saw it, he thought that it oddly looked the same as the pink diamond that was displayed in the museum where he's working. They're both embedded in some sort of oval stone that looked the same. It looked like an ancient artifact that should be displayed in a museum and not inside a filthy jewelry shop. Yoongi shuddered when he remembered how many crimes the owner had committed, only to have his shop still up and running because he had enough money to bribe everyone. Sadly, that's how justice worked.

One of the reason's why Yoongi left.

He stared at his watch. Counting down each second that passed.

Yoongi had to be very mindful with the timing of everything because this was the only way for him to sketch a 'robbery' without getting caught and without raising suspicions from people who were after the golden pearl.

When it was already a quarter past 12 midnight, Yoongi quickly started on his task. He watched as the two guards in front of the shop received a notice that they were needed in the back area as there had been sights of a 'possible thief'. That should be Jihyun infiltrating their communication system and pretending to be the chief.

The jewelry shop had very intense security measures and all the locks and alarm system were of modern technology. The glass was also shock-proof. But Yoongi, well, he brought the exact device that could open the lock in the front door.

One of the hardest cases he handled as a detective was a brilliant thief who was very good at entering premises and infiltrating locks. He had one of the coolest criminal nicknames, The Mad Dog, and Yoongi became famous for catching the perp. That guy was a genius and a mad scientist. Although he's not exactly good at being a thief, he had invented a lot of devices that could make the process easier for him.

He was so smart, but Yoongi was still able to catch him and put him behind the bars. The department burned all the devices he created. Yoongi, having the habit of keeping souvenirs from his cases, kept the criminal's journal that no one knew existed. The journal had all the drawings and instructions on how to create those devices.

What he did was illegal, but he was confident because he knew he would never use it for anything bad.

Except for today.

Looked like it came handy.

Added to the fact that Yoongi had spent three months chasing after that perp and analyzing his patterns and movements, Yoongi could say that he had lots of knowledge on how the Mad Dog worked. Which would kinda make him quite good if he'd follow those ways.

Yoongi was finally inside, having used one of the devices that he tried recreating from the journal. Wow, okay. That device was awesome. No wonder the dude could go in and out anywhere. He didn't even need to be good at picking locks.

Once inside, Yoongi randomly grabbed some jewelry to make it look like he was here to just rob some expensive stuff. Diamonds, gold necklaces, gold chains that you could just buy for three dollars in the market if you'd be able to find a good-looking fake version...

He trusted Jihyun to be in control of the cameras. He couldn't afford the authorities seeing anything or they might have an idea who he was. He was thankful for the insoles, though, at least they wouldn't know his real height.

The glass-enclosed golden pearl was a challenge to steal. It has its own alarm that would go off if you so much as try banging the platform it was placed on. The glass was also shock-proof like the ones surrounding the shop. He should do this fast. He's running out of time now. He needed to get out of here soon.

Using a smaller device that he brought with him, he tried opening the lock. It took longer than he had expected and Yoongi kept on glancing at his watch, afraid that he'd miss the schedule.

When he was finally able to unlock the glass casing, he carefully placed the golden pearl inside the velvet pouch he brought and tied it to his wrist, positioning it in such a way that it's hidden in his sleeve. Yoongi thought that the golden pearl looked quite like the pink diamond that was displayed in the museum but he chose to ignore that thought for now.

With his black face mask still on and his bag full with pieces of jewelry he didn't really need, he hurried to get out of the shop. One of the guards was already back to his post, but he did not see Yoongi yet.

Yoongi looked at his watch.

Half-past midnight.

Perfect.

He quickly ran out of the shop, not bothering to close the glass doors. The guard, of course, saw him and called for back up as he chased the ex-detective.

It was weird how easy it was to rob a jewelry shop if you're just smart enough to plan everything.

Yoongi turned a corner to the main street, running as fast as he could and wishing that he had exercised more the past few weeks. And just right in time, a patrol car that had Jin and another police passed by. They stopped at the commotion and his friend quickly jumped out of the car and pointed a gun at him. Yoongi raised his hand, acting shocked and scared. The guards finally caught up with him and looked relieved to see that the police had gotten hold of the crook.

Jin moved to grab the bag from Yoongi's hands while the other police was still pointing a gun at him. He acted as if he was about to cuff Yoongi but, as rehearsed, Yoongi shifted and kicked him hard on the stomach and ran away fast. Several bullets were fired his way but Yoongi was confident because Jin was bringing a rookie police that couldn't shoot properly for some reason.

He rounded the corner and climbed down the manhole that was hidden in the shadow. The sewer was smelly as heck, but Yoongi ran through the dirty water, the golden pearl safely kept inside his jacket.

Ah, would you look at that. There's actually more to the plot just like in Agent S. It's not the usual au and it will probably be weird. Let's hope not. Hehehe~

Btw, thank you for all those who supported Agent S in Webnovel! Author-nim has been out of touch once again because I got addicted to Sims 4. I'm so sorry, Sunshines~ I'll try to be more active and responsive the next few weeks. I feel like an asshole, lol.

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO MY BEST FRIEND WHO HAD BEEN NOTHING BUT SUPPORTIVE. <3

God bless ya'll and always smile, okay? :)
