░ Chapter One
"What kind of madness is this?" Seokjin shouted, barging into Yoongi's house. He didn't even knock.
He sighed. He supposed he should've seen this coming. Yoongi fixed his collar and gave himself a final once-over before getting out of his room and facing a raging Kim Seokjin.
"You've gone insane," Jin said in finality as he scowled. Yoongi was probably a sight for him, seeing as he was wearing his security guard uniform and was on his way to his first day of work.
"Oh, didn't peg you for someone that would look down at this type of job, hyung. Being a security guard is no less than being a captain of a precinct. I may not be paid as much but-"
"Oh, shut up," Jin interrupted him with an exasperated glare. "We both know that's not what I meant. What the heck are you doing applying for a job at the National Museum? As a security guard, of all things?!"
Yoongi scratched the back of his head like what he always would do whenever the older man reprimanded him. "I can't really talk about this now. I'll be late."
Jin raised his eyebrows and looked at him from head to toe. He didn't seem to have noticed what Yoongi was wearing until now. His eyebrows furrowed and his lips pursed. "Night shift, huh?"
He only gave a Jin a nod and tried to walk pass by him. But of course, the man easily blocked his way. Damn Jin and his height. Damn Yoongi and his...height. Aish, why did he have to me short?! Jin narrowed his eyes at him. "First, you quit being a Detective just because of something so small. The next thing I know, you're hired as a security guard and even taking the night shift! I would've understood if you were like the head or chief or whatever. But really Yoongi? Is this the best you can do? You're probably Seoul's best detective. You're just wasting your time and talent. Just how hard did you hit your head, honestly?!"
Well, he was definitely late now, so why not make it worse? He glared up at Jin with so much contempt in his eyes. Yoongi didn't want to get angry because Jin simply did not understand. He was not there. He also knew that the man expected so much from him, but...it's just different. It's very different now that Yoongi had seen the truth.
"It isn't just something 'small', Jin. You were not there so you'll never understand. You weren't there when an innocent child got killed by a crazy guy just so he could escape. And you didn't have to watch that same crazy guy get acquitted despite all the obvious evidences just because he has influences in the government."
"And you think quitting will make it right?"
Yoongi stared at Jin's questioning gaze, but all he saw was sadness. He shook his head and looked away. "I'm not gonna be a part of that fucked up system anymore. I'm done, hyung."
There was silence for a while as Yoongi sat on the couch. His body suddenly felt like it was too heavy. Jin followed him after a few beats and sat on the space next to him. The older man sighed.
"But really, you could've gotten a better job, Yoongi."
He raised his eyebrows and snorted at Jin. "So you really were condescending."
"I-I'm not, of course!" Jin struggled to explain, but struggled, even more, when Yoongi raised his eyebrows higher. He liked teasing his best friend. "I have great respect for security guards. They're brave and they risk their lives everyday just to make sure there is safety. Well, a lot of them would doze off to sleep, but still, they're risking their lives. And-"
Yoongi found himself laughing. Jin's wide eyes and panicked expression was just too funny for him. He didn't always laugh and his co-workers thought of him as apathetic, but Jin's face was always too funny. So far, he's one of the few people that he trusted and could make him smile, or laugh to some extent. Like now.
"Aish!" the man muttered, indignant. "Stop changing the topic. What I'm trying to ask is that you could've gotten a...you know, a different job. You're a detective. Anyone in the police department knows Min Yoongi, the man who has the highest number of arrest in the history."
"Well, they're the only ones who were willing to hire me."
"That's bullshit. Anyone would want to hire you."
Yoongi sighed. It seemed like Jin had an amnesia or he just had too much faith in Yoongi. "Not after what the scene I made, Jin. You know that got published in newspapers and featured on TV, right?"
Jin pursed his lips. "Is it that bad? It didn't seem to me."
"You'll be surprised. I do think there are people who paid to make the whole thing look so bad and against me. Probably to ruin my reputation. I guess that crazy guy is very influential, after all."
He watched as the older boy rubbed his face in frustration. "I didn't even know. I didn't want to watch any of it so I just..." His friend looked so conflicted at the moment. Yoongi didn't want him to think so hard on it, especially that it already happened and there's nothing they could do about it. Jin had helped him so much already and stayed by his side, he didn't need to bother the older man anymore.
"Hey, it's fine, hyung," Yoongi said, placing a hand on Jin's shoulder. "I didn't regret any of it. And anyway, I did not get fired, I resigned. It's my choice. You've done enough for me."
Jin snorted, his frown now lost in favor of a questioning look. "What makes you think that I, your Captain, would've fired you?"
Yoongi responded with a shrug. "The Commissioner could have. It was quite a story I made."
"I would punch him in the face if he will. But you do know that everyone in the precinct knows the truth, right? No one cares about what the media published. Everyone may be scared of you, but they all look up to you. You're the detective who caught the most wanted and infamous criminals in Seoul. Even other precincts know you, Yoongi. Everybody wants you back. I bet that includes the Commissioner as well."
"Well, I'm not going back."
Jin sighed and nodded. There was silence as both of them contemplated on what they had just discussed. Yoongi knew that if it was up to Jin, he would not want him to leave the police force. They had been best friends and partners for a long time now. Even when Jin got promoted and became their Commanding Officer, their friendship still remained. He would even forget at times that the older man was his Captain.
"Whatever Yoongi, just don't be a criminal," Jin said as he stood up, seemingly about to leave.
Yoongi raised an eyebrow at the statement.
"What?" Jin asked when he saw Yoongi's face. "You're so smart. It would be too dangerous if you suddenly wake up one day and decided to be some feisty criminal with a cool nickname like the people you have arrested."
The younger man snorted at this. "What would be my nickname, then?"
"I don't know. Uh, Smidget? Like Small Midget?"
Yoongi narrowed his eyes.
"Or maybe White Lamb. Or The Skinny Wolf. Oh, oh, how about The Frowning Eagle."
With a sigh, Yoongi rolled his eyes and led Jin to the door. Jin continued listing more horrible nicknames until they reached the porch. Yoongi scrunched up his nose at the, thankfully, last entry which was 'The Roaring Kitten'.
"Jin, you can shut up now. I am already late to the point that I've decided not to go to work and just call my employer. And that's because of you. So please, spare me any more sufferings."
Jin laughed at this one, his handsome face glowing under the light of the moon. Yoongi always wondered when would Jin settle in life. A lot of people were pining after him, seeing as he was good-looking and smart. He was also friends with almost everybody and was quite popular among the officers, whatever ranking they might have. He was too workaholic though, and he had always declined anyone who had enough guts to ask him out.
Yoongi just wished the man would finally get married so that he'd leave him alone.
"But seriously Yoongi, I'm sorry for barging in like that. I should've asked you in a...uh, calmer way," Jin said while putting in his coat. He didn't look sorry, though. "I guess there's nothing I can do anymore. I hope you'll find happiness in this. You can tell your boss that your former Captain needed to have an emergency meeting with you. I'll cover you up if they call me to ask for confirmation."
Yoongi smiled. Just a little. "Well, it is your fault."
"Whatever," was the older's reply as he rolled his eyes. "Also, if you need anyone to talk with about...what happened, you know you can call me anytime, right?"
He nodded, glad that he had a friend like Jin. The older man finally bid goodbye, explaining that he couldn't stay any longer because he had some paperwork to follow up. Yoongi only sighed at this. Typical Jin. It was already seven in the evening and he was still thinking about work.
After his best friend left, he quickly made a phone call and apologized furiously. He used Jin's suggested alibi and thankfully, his boss was cool with it. He promised to come in tomorrow, and early at that. He couldn't really push coming in today since his shift already started an hour ago.
Sighing, Yoongi made his way to the kitchen to grab some beer. Jin would disapprove of him stocking alcohol in his refrigerator, but Jin was not here. Or at least, not anymore. As he drank in silence, he couldn't help but think about the words of his friend. He did miss being in the police force, miss being a detective. He had always thought he'd grow old doing that, but he was wrong.
He was too deep into his thoughts that he had not noticed his legs moving, walking towards his room as if pulled by a magnet. When he finally realized, he was already staring at his shelf where he had kept all his awards in his years of being in the police academy and in the force. There were also newspaper clippings of his most famous arrests. Those were Jin's efforts. Yoongi couldn't put a single precious effort in cutting and framing these clippings.
His eyes landed on the only frame that was different from the others. This one was not a win for Yoongi. The frame displayed newspaper clippings about a certain high profile thief that Yoongi had been trying to catch for years now. His nemesis. As he had gotten better in being a detective, the guy also got better in thieving, even having three of the most known burglar case in Seoul under his name. He even now had a team.
Yoongi narrowed his eyes. He had vowed before that he would never stop until he had caught this man, but he guessed that it wouldn't be possible now. Well, the guy just got lucky.
He bit his lips and sighed before leaving his room. The last thing he wanted was to brood about his long-time archnemesis, the infamous thief called Rem.

New fanfic everyone! I know I said I'll never write an action fic again, but hey, promises are meant to be broken. Lol. I just hope this wouldn't be as cringy as Agent S. But this one just has mild action scenes, unlike Agent S, so I guess I'll live. I guess...
It would be a little boring in the first part and uh...it's gonna take a few chapts before the two will meet. But it's gonna get better, I swear. Or whatever better means for you. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy this one! Thank you~
Lots and lots of love! God bless~
