░ Chapter Fourteen

"I can't believe I'm helping you with this," Jin was complaining. Again.

"Are you ever gonna stop, hyung?" Yoongi said, now exasperated. Jihyun was not helping. He was just laughing as he watched the two of them bicker. "We've already done the heist. We already have the pearl. There's really no point of complaining."

Jin huffed, clearly unconvinced. "You don't understand, Min Yoongi. I am a Captain."

"I know, hyung. But-"

"A Captain."

"Yes, you are the Captain."

"Exactly."

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "Sometimes you gotta do something you're not supposed to do for the greater good. We're not doing this because we wanted to steal this damn pearl and you know that."

"But I'm the Captain..."

"We do undercovers, hyung. A lot of us had become a gang member, a drug dealer, heck, even the right hand of a mafia boss. Those are against the law but the police force is required to undergo those experiences to be able to put a criminal in jail. This is no different."

Jin sighed. "B-But..."

"Plus, you are our handsome and smart Captain, so you shouldn't doubt your decisions."

That did it. Finally. Jin's frown turned into a glowing smile as he basked in Yoongi's rare compliments. He should've done this sooner.

"I guess you have a point. Let's just hope nothing shitty happens and someone will find the stolen golden pearl in my own apartment because I will really be burying you alive. I can't even believe I actually agreed on keeping this shit."

The ex-detective snorted. Still, he was happy and thankful that Jin agreed to keep the pearl. He couldn't afford keeping the gem. As much as he was proud to say that he could read Rem's mind, the same goes with the master thief. He knew Yoongi all too well.

They knew each other all too well.

Keeping the gem would just mean handing it to Rem.

"If you two are done there, there's something I want to show you," Jihyun suddenly spoke up, sounding too cocky for his own good. The two older men raised their eyebrows at the blatant lack of respect.

"I wonder where the 'hyung' have gone? Did it go on a vacation?" Jin said as they gathered around Jihyun's laptop, the boy clicking around the screen to show them something.

Jihyun chuckled at Jin's words. "So, my dearest hyungs, I found something really interesting that you might want to know."

And just like that, Jin and Yoongi forgot about the kid's lack of formality. They leaned forward to see more of what the kid had on his screen. It looked like some kind of...ancient stuff? Ah, Yoongi hated history but if it's related to crime and mystery, why not?

"So, remember when I told you guys that I couldn't access anything else apart from that weird list that somehow your detective minds were able to understand? After that time, I tweaked a little here and there and was able to access other stuff, although it's very limited."

"Get on to the main thing, kid," Yoongi scolded him.

Jihyun pouted. "Very mean. Well anyway, I found something really odd but it had some pictures of stones and I think this is really helpful." It seemed to be a PDF file. Jihyun went to the part where the pictures were and Yoongi immediately recognized the pink diamond and golden pearl.

The boy clicked the option to print.

"It's a legend about five stones called 'Sol' Gems," Jihyun explained while they waited for the printer to finish. It's has a lot of pages so it would definitely take longer. "Apparently, it's created by Mayans as keys to some kind of ancient something machine."

"And why are they after that machine?" Jin asked.

Jihyun shrugged. "They're thieves."

"Gold, probably. Or some ancient treasure," it was Yoongi who answered the question.

"That's...interesting," Jin said. "Should I have someone look at this? It seems like something the police force should intervene with."

"Not yet," Yoongi responded. "If things go south and they'll find out that we're after them, it might become harder to track this mafia. Plus, we already have what we need. I think it's better for me to work on this alone for now. And then your team can enter the scene later."

Jin looked like he wanted to argue but decided to keep his mouth shut. He had been Yoongi's best friend for so long now. They've been together since his academy years and Jin knew him very well. He knew Yoongi was very stubborn, so it was not surprising for the ex-detective to see the Captain relent.

Jin just nodded.

The silence was broken by Jihyun. "Oh wow, seems like that said machine is not here in South Korea."

Yoongi didn't really hear what Jihyun just said because he was too busy staring at the printed files. He couldn't believe he had been so dumb. And he actually called himself a detective?

Or maybe I was just too distracted...

Aish. This was why distractions were never good. He wanted to kill himself for missing a very important detail. He already had the list of gems and one of them was Bèaute Rose. He should've already guessed at that moment that they're trying to complete the five Sol Gems. It was so obvious.

Only a dumb person wouldn't notice. And apparently, he was dumb.

It was at that moment that Yoongi realized something. He had thought that the Bèaute Rose was 'never' stolen. Or at least, that's what he had thought all this time. After all, Yoongi saw it everyday in his shift. It's still there in the museum.

And if BTS was really there for it that time...

Then that means...

"Ah, shit!"

"What's wrong?" Jin asked, looking at him with concern.

"They stole the pink diamond. The one in the museum right now is a damn replica. Ah, heck!"

"What?!" Jin exclaimed. "But isn't that a national treasure of South Korea?"

Instead of being concerned, Jihyun seemed to enjoy the news and listened to them with excited eyes. The brat. "They stole a national treasure? That's awesome."

Yes, it's awesome, but Yoongi wouldn't be saying it outloud because it was a crime. Crime shouldn't be 'awesome', no matter how badass or cool it might appear to be.

But yes, it was kinda awesome.

"I bet they stole it for the Master. They also stole the Fuyuwan so they have two of the gems now," Yoongi explained.

Jin nodded in agreement, his eyes glinting, as usual, every time they're trying to crack a case. "But now we have the pearl..."

The two detectives grinned at each other. It was in these moments that Yoongi was reminded of all the things he had gone through together with Jin. Before his best friend became Captain, they were partners. Working with Jin was so easy, not only because he was a friend, but because the man was smart as heck, too. He deserved becoming the Captain of their precinct.

"They'll never be able to complete the five Sol Gems if we have the golden pearl."

"So do you agree now with Yoongi-hyung about stealing the pearl?" Jihyun asked, looking between the two.

Jin blinked. "W-well, it's still theft, but we gotta do what we gotta do. Plus, I'm keeping it so at least I can make sure it will not fall into the wrong hands."

He knew his best friend would come around soon. Yoongi was just glad that he would not have to endure the pain of listening to Jin whine. He was about to suggest planning for their next move when Jin beat him to it.

The Captain clapped his hands eagerly. "So when are we gonna steal the next one?"

There was silence.

Yoongi opened his mouth and closed it again. He was not really sure how to explain to Jin that they were not supposed to steal another gem. Aside from the fact that the next one was harder to steal, one robbery was already enough for Yoongi. He's not really comfortable with doing another heist, as much as how exciting it was. It was still crime.

"Yoongi?" Jin asked when the ex-detective still didn't answer.

"Uh... I don't know, hyung. Do we really have to? I think we should study these documents that Jihyun found first. Plus, BTS should be on their way to steal the fourth one now so it would be too dangerous to compete with them. They're the experts, after all."

Jin nodded slowly, frowning. "Okay..."

"We do have one of the five now, which means they wouldn't be able to do whatever they're planning as long as we keep it safe. We can research more about these gems and see why these guys are trying to get it."

"That's right," Jin finally amended. "At least we have the pearl."

"Whoa, these could be real life infinity stones and Thanos could exist!" Jihyun inserted unhelpfully, his eyes staring dreamily at his poster of Loki. The Marvel character looked quite menacing there.

 Yoongi only snorted.

"I dreamed of kissing Jungkook last night!" Taehyung announced all of a sudden, in which everyone else in the room went silent and stared at him.

By everyone, it meant the entire gang, having a discussion once again for their next heist. Jungkook only blinked and shook his head in exasperation at Taehyung's actions.

"That's...nice to hear, Tae," Namjoon said in response. He didn't really know what else to say. He was, after all, in the middle of explaining to them what they're supposed to do next when his brother suddenly interrupted.

Taehyung nodded vehemently and shuddered. "It was really weird. It felt so real."

As to why Taehying was sharing this to them was beyond Namjoon. But he still nodded along because well, this was Taehyung.

"You were so drunk yesterday, Tae. It's no wonder you're dreaming about weird stuff." Hoseok laughed.

"Yeah, and Kookie also carried you to your room," Jimin added.

Jungkook narrowed his eyes. "And puked on my shirt."

"That's great!" Namjoon exclaimed too cheerfully in his desperate attempt to keep the team focused. "So now we know that Tae dreamed of Jungkook, and wow, he puked on him! Keep it up, Tae! So about the heist..."

"We're stealing another gem?"

Namjoon nodded at Hoseok's question. Finally, a topic that they should be talking about. "That's right. The same client contacted us again. We will be stealing an opal gem that suspiciously looked so much like the other gems we have stolen, so I need to look into this one. I'm not really sure what we're getting into and what this client wanted from these stones."

When nobody made a comment and everyone just stared at him with confused eyes, he continued. "What we have to focus on right now though is the fact that it's gonna be a little easier, and harder at the same time. A high-end collector owns it. We'll be stealing an opal gem that was apparently some kind of Mayan civilization artifact."

"It's just a collector. How come it's harder to steal than the others?" Jimin asked.

Namjoon handed them the dossier of their next heist, knowing fully well that they wouldn't read everything anyway. "He's not just some collecter. He owns a casino located in one of Gangnam's busiest and liveliest section. It's open twenty-four hours, in fact. And guess where the opal is?"

"Shit," Jungkook swore under his breath. "It's displayed in the casino, isn't it?"

"That's right. Which means we have to steal it whilst there's a lot of people around."

There were some ooh's heard from the others. Namjoon smiled with his dimple showing and gazed at his gang. Each one of them was really talented and good, and sometimes he wondered what he had done in his past life to be able to find them and form this group.

========

BTS FESTA '19 is here! Guess who's excited? ME. And YOU, too! I know it. I can read minds. Anyway, all this Mayan stuff... *laughs nervously* You'll know more in the next chapters.

And oh, Tae dreamed of Kook kissing him? Jungkook carried him to his room while he's drunk? HmmmMmmMmm...
