The Reckoning
Prologue
(Choi Young Do POV)
The rain was trickling down my face, the cold raindrops masked the stinging pain. Water had already soaked through the ripped jacket as I lay on the pavement confused and writhing in pain.
My memory was hazy, I didn't know where I was. I could see the mangled remains of my bike. The shards of glass from its headlights littered the floor like beautiful crystals. I scanned my legs and twitched both feet, the pain was unbearable but I let out a sigh of relief, I wasn't paralyzed.
I tried to prop myself up but the pain was too much so I sat in the middle of the road. The rain had intensified as the drops became sheets of water falling from the sky. The stinging cold was drowning the pain. I tried to look for my phone in the dark street, but all of the things I stuffed in my jacket were scattered.
I managed to grab hold of my phone as its cracked screen flickered off because of the rain. I was now concerned about myself, I could see that my injuries were not immediately life-threatening if hypothermia didn't get me first. I tried to shout for help on the desolate road but the howling rain muted my desperate call.
I was becoming desperate, The rain had already soaked through my thick jacket and I was shivering that the pain from the crash was almost a dampened sensation. I painfully limped towards a distant light hoping for help leaving my mangled motorcycle behind.
As I staggered across the dark highway I could feel my body becoming weaker and weaker from the exposure to the cold and rain, the stabbing pain from the crash made my predicament much worse.
I barely made more than twenty steps when I fell over on the road. I could feel my body was shutting down, I had no time to think of my memories, and my mind was still in a haze. I frantically tried to crawl but my body had surrendered because of exhaustion.
I was sprawled on the pavement with my face down and with my last remaining strength I tried to look up to see the lights I saw earlier became brighter and brighter.
Is this it? I thought to myself.
