Chapter 28: The Worst of Us

I'm officially breaking mah rule. ._.
before I said that I would never go over 1300 words in any story, WELP This chapter is fucking long-

So don't @ me but I had to break my rule so sorry not sorry.

~~~Liam's P.O.V~~~
Erik walked me through the palace halls. I was beyond frightened when he pulled me into rooms to avoid the Adomos.
"Where are we going..?" I asked softly.
"Center of the palace.. It's the base of the magic.." Erik explained gently pulling me out of the room walking out into the hallway.
We walked through the halls I didn't like the slanted version of the castle. The ways that the dark energy flowed through the halls. Finally he stopped in front of the archway.
I felt someone push us forward seeing Evan grinning at us. I looked at Erik who had visible fear in his eyes. I looked behind me seeing someone with dirty blond hair with anger in his eyes.
"Hello Liam.."
I whipped my head around to See Catherine closing in on us. This was bad...
"...Good work Erik.."
I turned to Erik who was being dragged to his feet looking somberly at the ground.
"Y-... You lied to me.."
"Liam n-no I-.. I-" A vine wrapped tightly around him before he could continue.
I reached out to him before I felt someone grab it pulling me towards them. I looked at him. Everyone took two equal steps foward.
I took two steps back.
~~~

~~~Ryan's P.O.V~~~
Toni and I were waiting. Waiting for some sign. To go forward or back. I couldn't help but remember for when we thought Liam had died.
I had tightly clutched the necklace in my hand. Not willing to use it for anything except to get Liam out of trouble.
"... Shhhh" Toni said slowly standing up looking around. I stared at her confused. I haven't tried to speak to her much.
"I-.."
"Shhh... Listen.." She said grabbing my arm dragging me to my feet. I stood up so she wouldn't be try to lug me around trying to hear what she did.
I heard it. The echo of a scream. I felt it then. We both turned to each other her pupils -which were dialed in fear- confirming that it was him.
I tightly pressed the crescent on the orb it shining a bright silver. I couldn't stop it from floating out of my hands floating away.
"Follow it.." Toni echoed my exact thoughts before running after it. I sprinted after her as the orb glowed brighter racing faster and faster.
We stopped as the orb floated into a room. Toni grabbed my arm before I could run in.
"Wait.." She mouthed before quietly sneaking towards the door. I turned into a snake slithering onto her shoulders as I peaked through the door. I wish I didn't.
I felt Toni's anger before bursting into the room.
Liam turned to us a large cut on his cheek, Erik beside him in a similar situation.
"Well, I knew that would drag you all here." A guy grinned. I slithered off of Toni's shoulders. The room became still.
I saw the orb in a girl's hands far too late. I froze seeing it float towards me faster, only to be pushed to the ground.
~~~3rd Person P.O.V~~~

Toni pushed Ryan out of the way harshly crying out softly in pain as the orb hit her.

"Toni!!" Liam screamed reaching his hand out only to see no trace of his sister.

As everyone else in the room made orbs, Ryan grabbed Liam's arm tightly. "Get up, Now!" He ordered before the doors closed.

Both of the boys turned towards the doors where Catherine stood in front of them a grim expression on her face. She mouthed something before sending two orbs, causing the disappearance of two more.

"Why did Liam kill himself?" Toni asked.

"... I-..."

"I read the letters. I thought he was happy, Ryan.. He couldn't have just vanished into thin air.. "

"Toni.. I don't... I thought he was okay.." Ryan said running his fingers through his hair nervously.

Liam's eyes opened as he looked around at the grey environment. Two familiar figures standing over him, looking through him. Toni's eyes full of tears.

He stood up turning to both of them. Though they didn't acknowledge him

"... What happened that day.."

"Toni, It's been 2 years.."

"I'm asking you a question."

"I've told you everything that happened.. Everything."

The girl shook her head before walking away. "... Why do those letters just not make sense.."

"Because life is messy and complicated. Because not everything is perfect, and not everything is right side up! Your grieving, but you have to accept that he's g-... gone.."

"So you've accepted it?"

".... I never said that.."

Both of them stayed silent as Liam reached out to them trying to convey something... anything.

".... Do you e-... ever miss him..?"

"... Everyday.."

Both of the figures vanished in front of Liam's eyes as he looked towards the empty grey abyss. "Hello...?" Liam called out continuing to walk forward.

He froze as he saw other figures appear out of nowhere.

"So.. Joel.. How long have you been here?" Laurie asked leaning her arms against the counter watching Joel bake.

"Eh, not long.. Just a year and a half really.. I honestly thought I'd be the only "mortal to set foot here.. you know..?" He answered continuing to bake while answering the princess's questions.

Liam stepped forward. He had never known anything much about his parents relationship. Just that everyone knew that they were in love..

Anything else was kept from them.

"So how do you feel to be talking to someone that isn't a magical creature.. or something.." Laurie asked, resting her chin on the palm of her hand.

"It's a relief to be honest. I've grown tired being a bit powerless in other people's worlds.." He answered with a shrug.

"That makes two of us.." She answered forcing a smile on her face.

Liam stared at both of them confused as the both disappeared.

~~~Liam's P.O.V~~~
I tightly gripped my sleeves. Looking around. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know where I was. My magic was definitely useless at the moment. I continued to walk forward hoping I'd come across something that wasn't so vast and empty.
I narrowed my eyes at a certain figure in the distance. My eyes widened before I picked up my pace from a walk to a sprint.
"Ry..!" I finally reached him wrapping my arms tightly around him. "O-... Oh thank god I found you, Rya-" I felt him push me off.
"The hell do you think your doing?!" Ryan growled.
I stared at him blankly, unable to pin point this, slightly walking forward towards him "Ryan... w-"
"Take another step, and I can't be held accountable for my actions.." He said pulling out a knife.
"R-Ry... Seriously whatever your trying to pull-"
"I'm not trying to pull anything, just get the fuck away from me."
My eyes widened. Tightly biting the inside of my cheek as I slowly backed away. "Ryan... please, what's wrong.."
"Why should I tell you?"
"Ryan, you know me... alright.. I-.."
"What do I really know about you? That your a spoiled brat who has everything handed to him on a silver platter? Or that I don't know you've just been using me as protection? Or maybe that you don't actually care!" He shot out
I felt my shoulders droop low. I stared at him unable to find the source of his anger.
"Ryan... You know I care about you.. I- always have..-"
"Bullshit."
"Ryan-"
"Bullshit. It's all bullshit. You've lied to me. Go to hell, Liam." He growled before turning away.
"... And leave you here all alone?" I asked my voice barely a whisper.
"Fuck you, too." He said turning back to me, before he faded away. I slowly sunk to my knees tightly gripping my arms.
"... I'm sorry.."
~~~Ryan's P.O.V~~~

I don't know how long it's been. No sign of Liam or Toni. I had been looking running through this endless grey world only seeing nothing. I hadn't stopped at any of the simulations of 'memories'

Why torture myself even more.

I continued walking before I heard her.

"I don't exactly get why you still come here.."

I turned around seeing her. My eyes softened at her.

"I've told you before why I'm here, Cyn.."

I slowly walked towards the two figures. I knew exactly when this was, four years ago.

"I just don't understand why.."

"To be completely honest, Neither do I.."

I walked towards them. Gently brushing my fingers across the table. I turned my attention back to the memory.

"So, why do you keep following?"

"I'm not. I never said I was."

"I find that hard to believe with the sting of murders behind you."

"You find everything about me hard to believe."

"Maybe I wouldn't if you would calm down, Ryan. Maybe I would accept you again with open arms."

I stared down at the ground wanting to walk away from the memory. Wanting it to fade into the darkness. Though it kept playing.

"Maybe doesn't exactly give me a play by play, love."

"Maybe you would've had it If you had turned out different."

"Maybe that isn't exactly my fault, Cynthia.."

"Of course it wasn't. How could I blame you for what we went through."

I sighed a bit continuing to walk away, not looking back.

".. Did you ever blame me..?"

"... No.. I didn't.."

...

...

"Cynthia, I mean it-..."

"I know you don't, Ryan.. When have you ever meant it..? This isn't the first time you've told me.."

"Cyn-"

".. Just be honest with me.. tell me what happened.. Why you stood by.."

"It's all I've ever known.."

"Then learn something different, You can't just continue to stand by, R.."

I turned around seeing the image disappear before walking away. I gritted my teeth before continuing to walk forward pushing my hair out of my face.

I turned to see more images around me. Of course not memories, but visions. Fears.. Memories.. Everything..

Everyone who had ever been associated with me.. Family.. friends.. everyone..

"I'm burning it all.. Stand over to the side if you want.. I have.. no fucking clue who you are, and I don't want too..!"

His voice was clear. I turned towards the image of Liam. I stared at him walking forward.

"Liam.."

"No.. Go away."

"Liam."

"I said no."

He threw down the letters, turning away from me starting to walk away. I reached my arm out towards him before he grabbed it tightly.

"Liam, please.."

"You've lied to me.. everything.. You make yourself sound far better than how you actually are."

I stared at him unable to respond to his claim. I didn't ever want to make myself sound better, but I didn't want him to believe he was actually stuck with someone so horrible.

"You-... You are just the perfect little Trojan horse.. You make yourself sound better at your own expense."

"Liam, please... W-..Why.."

"You know what..? You can keep it all, all our memories all our experiences, ALL of it. Fuck you, Ryan.. Asshole!" He yelled before storming off disappearing into the darkness.

I stared straight ahead. Tightly stabbing my fingernails into the palms of my hands, letting the blood seep through.

I slowly walked forward hearing sobs ringing through the air. I turned towards it seeing Liam again his face buried in his hands.

"... L-... Liam..?" I asked.

His breathing slowed as he barely shifted in position turning towards me, his eyes showing fear.

"... Ryan..?"

I nodded my head, slowly walking towards him sitting beside him.

"... Tell me something only you would know.."

I thought for a second, before turning to him. "You like forehead kisses, picnics, and whenever I call you love or darling.."

He stared at me before letting out a sob burying his face in my chest. I felt my arms go around him tightly holding him close to me resting my head against his chest. "Let it out, love.."

"... W-... Where is Toni.. I-.."

"I don't know... but we'll find her... I promise, Lee.." I mumbled gently kissing the side of his head.

"... I-... I'm sorry... You should have come with us..."

"Shh.. It's alright.. don't-... just... It's alright, Liam.."

"Please just stay here right now... I-... I just need a minuet.."

"Take it, love.."
