Chapter 13 Saved by the phone
Chapter 13: Saved by the phone
Emery's POV
"You are not gonna put him in a cell, it's not fair, he's been in one for eight years!" I shout across the room begging him to change his mind.
Right now I am currently fighting with Raiden to give his brother an actual room. Of course after he dragged me out from the garden before Pierce and I can star gaze.
"You are my slave! Don't tell me what I can and can't do!" He yelled slamming his fist on his desk.
"Why do you hate your brother so much? You've barely seen him to even come up with a reason to hate him!" I know, I can't believe I'm shouting at a gang leader but it had to be done for Pierce's sake.
"That is not your business! I don't have to explain my life story to you!" I'm surprised he hadn't told me to get out yet.
I can't believe I came in here willingly. I need to get out before I suffocate in the anger radiating off of him. I turn around and reach for the door knob.
"Where do you think you're going?"he asked.
"Anywhere but here, I'm done talking to someone who's ears are clogged by their gigantic ego!" I reach for the door knob again before he can protest but instead he grabs my wrist and holds it in between our faces.
"After all that you did tonight you think you're leaving here without any punishment!" He shouts, which wasn't really necessary given our close proximity.
"All I did was uncover your hidden secret," I whisper hoping to catch him off guard.
It does for a second when his eyes flash in confusion. I take that as my chance to dig deeper, I know Raiden didn't lock up his brother for eight years just because he was annoying. That's ridiculous.
"Did you lock him up because of your mother? Did you think she would've lived if it weren't for Pierce huh?" That makes him go mute for a minute, just looking into my eyes while I look into his which are growing angrier by the second.
"I bet you couldn't do anything about it for eight years since your uncle was the gang-leader right?" I kept talking, testing to see if he would blow up.
"I bet you were one angry ten year old blaming Pierce for the death of your mother," that did it for him as his hand squeezed tighter around my wrist cutting off my circulation.
"Enough!" He yelled as he pulled my hand down roughly while letting it go.
"You don't know anything you stupid, naive girl!" He backed me up towards the wall where I held onto for dear life.
I know I brought this on myself, I was just hoping to get an answer. "I know just enough to know that you didn't lock up a little boy just because he was annoying you!"
"Maybe I did because that's just how heartless I really am," that made me shut up and forget about the next sentence I was gonna tell. Maybe he's right, locking a little boy up is a heartless and ridiculous thing to do. But I guess that's normal for him because that's just who he is.
"See, I guess you don't know everything," he laughed menacingly. How did he turn the tables all of a sudden, from me yelling at him and making him go mute to him screaming at me while I cower towards the wall.
"Why do you try so hard to let people know how heartless you are?" I questioned him since he uses that specific word to describe himself all the time.
"Why do you think gang leaders become gang leaders?" He wonders, not expecting me to have an answer. Me staying silent is a good enough answer for him as he starts speaking once again.
"Well many reasons actually but the main reason is so they can prove to people how ruthless, selfish, and heartless they are just so they can have the power to control people," he explains his opinion.
"Just like what I'm doing to you right now, controlling you," he added.
I scoff and roll my eyes as I explain my opinion. "Really? Cause I don't think so. Gang leaders only become gang leaders to hurt and get revenge on people, to kill them. Gang leaders only become gang leaders so they can hide from their secrets, the secrets that they're afraid of , the secrets that make them who they truly are."
"Just like what you're doing now, hiding," I added with a proud smirk plastered on my face.
He stays silent not knowing what else to say. That's because he can't say anything, he's totally taken back from another person giving their opinion.
"You're afraid of something Raiden, I can tell," I say as I look directly into his ice cold blue eyes.
It's like I'm hypnotizing him and this would be the time where he snaps out of it. "I am not afraid of anything," he calmly pointed out bringing his face closer and closer to mine.
He turns his head slightly to the side as he leans in closer. What is he doing? He better not be doing what I think he's doing. I start to panic as he closes his eyes, only our breathing can be heard in this silent room. Before I can shove him away, the phone rings loudly through the silent room making Raiden jolt from his position and quickly walking over to pick up the phone.
What just happened?
Had Raiden Lockhart try to kiss me?!
I guess I was saved by the phone.
*~**~*~**~*~**~*~**~*
I stand there looking at my reflection while brushing my teeth wondering what Raiden's phone call was about. After he placed the phone down he practically shoved me out the door slamming it in my face.
But that's not the only thing I've been thinking about. There is no way Raiden had tried to kiss me. I've been trying to come up with other reasons as to why he leaned in so close. Like I said, I tried but I still can't come up with anything.
Before I can ponder anymore on the situation, Casey walks in with a toiletry bag. I spit the remains of toothpaste out in the sink while wiping my mouth with my sleeve. I turn around facing her as she looks down searching for something in her bag.
"What're you looking for?" I asked while leaning against the counter.
"Just some freakin toothpaste," she frustratedly replied, ready to rip apart her bag.
"Okay! You can borrow mine. No need to murder your bag," I suggested, handing over my toothpaste that Mackenzie had supplied in my toiletry bag.
"Sorry, I've just been stressed out," she admits taking the toothpaste and putting a fair amount on her toothbrush.
"I haven't seen you lately, what has gotten you so stressed that you've gone M.I.A," I pointed out, sitting on the counter.
She puts her toothbrush down and turns to me. "It's River, Raiden keeps sending him on missions alone and he can't handle them anymore. It's tiring him out, he hasn't gotten proper sleep or a decent meal," she admitted looking more tired then ever.
"I've been going on some missions with him for medical reasons. He always gets hurt on each mission, so I tried to talk to Raiden to see if he can allow some of his gang members to help River out," she answered my unasked question.
"And?" I questioned.
"And..... He said no," she sadly states.
I sigh as he just keeps on making everyone's lives miserable. But It seems like he's only hurting the people I care about. First, Pierce and now River, I'll have to talk to him about it even if I have to cower towards the wall again.
I stay quiet as Casey takes this chance to brush her teeth. Once she's done she washes her toothbrush off and puts it back in her bag.
"So is he still making you sleep in a cage?" She asks as she turns to me and hands me back the toothpaste.
"Unfortunately, yeah," I sadly respond.
"How's your leg doing? Does it still hurt when you try to walk on the crutches?"
"Um... I guess it's fine, I still wince every time I put weight on it," I respond while packing everything back in my bag.
"It's normal, but it'd get better quicker if you rested it properly, like not sleeping in a cage." She sadly remarks.
Before I get the chance to speak, the door quietly opens but enough to where I can still hear the creak sound.
"Hello? Is anyone in here?" A voice that I recognized as Harley's answers.
"Yeah, Harley we're in here," Casey answered.
Harley opened the door all the way and looked and the both of us with her hands on her hips. "What are you two doing here! It's almost midnight, Raiden is looking for you Emery," she told holding the door open for us.
"Okay, good luck Emery, goodnight Harley," Casey said her goodbyes while slipping past Harley.
"Thanks for telling me Harley, goodnight," I say as I try slipping pasts her but she blocks me from leaving.
"Not so fast Emery," Harley looks at me seriously.
"Yes, Harley?" I asked looking at her weirdly. "I need your help," she states nervously.
"With what?" I questioned really not looking forward to the answer.
"Raiden's surprise birthday party," she mouths almost inaudibly really fast. But I still heard it.
"No! Harley I am not helping plan a murderers birthday party," I disagree.
"Why can't you get his gang to help with the party?" I questioned since he has over a hundred people in his gang.
"They are but the gang that lives here can't cook, I just need your help cooking in the kitchen. You don't even need to leave the kitchen or attend the party," she negotiated.
"When is it?" I asked.
"Two days from now, March 28th," she responded.
"So I can only stay in the kitchen, I don't need to be seen?"I questioned making sure I got the agreement.
"Correct," she assured me.
"Okay then I'll help only with the food, nothing else," I agreed.
"That's all I'm asking," she smiled while stepping out of the way.
"Goodnight Emery," I walk out of the bathroom and turned to her.
"You too Harley," I said my farewell to her while walking down the hallway with my crutches under my pits.
I turn the corner to make my way upstairs but I stop when I spot something on the wall next to the staircase.
It's a button implanted in the wall. I walk towards the button and being the curious person I am, I press the button with my knuckle.
I hear a ding while the wall separates from itself leading into an........
Elevator!
How did I not notice this before, I've been walking upstairs with crutches this entire time while there was an elevator right next to the staircase! It takes me more than ten minutes to walk all the way upstairs to the third floor. He made the outside of the elevator blend in with the wall......clever.
Raiden told me there was no elevator that's why I never looked for one. I should've never listened to his words. Did he really tell me there's no elevator so he can make me suffer?
I step inside and press button three to take me to the third floor. I counted 10 seconds before it stopped and opened up showing me the hallway.
That saved me a lot of time. I walk toward Raiden's door and knock on the door. I would definitely barge in but I wouldn't want to find him naked, changing in his bedroom.
I shuddered at the thought. A maid walks by, around my age, giving me a disgusted look as she sees me standing in front of Raiden's door shuddering.
Oh no!
"Um... It's not what it looks like! I'll be sleeping in a cage," I explain. Wait a second, that came out wrong.
Her eyebrows raise and she gasps while running away. "Oh no! Wait...why do I even try?" I question myself.
Raiden opens the door with his dark brown hair soaked in water while he only has a towel wrapped around himself showing his 8 pack glory.
This is just what I was afraid of. Good thing I didn't barge in.
"Um....excuse me," I push him out of the way while heading toward the cage.
Except there is no cage. In the corner when the cage always is, is the dust outlining where the cage used to be.
"Where is the cage?" I asked calmly. Not upset that the cage is gone, I'm thrilled.
"It's gone, Casey said to heal your leg faster you need to rest properly," he explained.
"So I'm going back to my cell?" I asked excitedly. I know I'm pathetic for wanting to go back in my cell, but I'd rather not sleep in a cage next to Raiden.
"No," he laughed walking towards his bathroom and closing the door probably changing.
"Then where will I sleep?" I questioned already guessing a possibility which I hope it's not what I'm thinking of.
I hear him gurgling some water before spitting it out. "In my bed," he concluded.
"No! I'm not sleeping there, I'd rather go back in the cage," I yell through the door.
He opens the door with his hair slightly dry and only wearing pajama pants, still shirtless.
"Well the cage isn't coming back," he states.
He walks towards his side of the bed and pulls the comforter down, slipping in the bed while doing so.
I lean my crutches up against the wall and hop towards the other side of the bed. I grab a pillow and plop it down one the floor while bringing myself down with the pillow also.
"What are you doing now?" He asked completely frustrated.
"Just testing out my options," I say as I rest my head on the pillow feeling completely naked since I don't have anything to cover me up.
I can hear him shifting on the bed before I feel the pillow coming out from under my head. My head hardly hits the hardwood floor as I try to hide the wince coming from my mouth.
"Sorry, but I don't allow my pillows on the floor," he sarcastically replied.
I groan while wrapping my arms around myself to keep myself warm.
I listen as I hear the creaking of the bed indicating that he's getting off of it. Next thing I see is him turning of the lamp in the corner off the room. I turn from my position and close my eyes tightly hoping to fall asleep.
While I try to sleep I feel a pair of strong arms lifting me up and placing me down roughly on the bed.
"What the hell?!" I whisper-yell.
"Shut up and go to bed, it's a huge bed so there's a lot of room between us," he explains while walking over to his side of the bed.
Being as stubborn as I am, I lay on top of the covers not even trying to get under them.
Raiden loudly sighs as he gives out a frustrated groan. He roughly slips the covers from under me covering me all the way up to my neck.
I feel him lay back. I'm suddenly really sleepy as my eyelids feel like they have weights on them weighing my eyelids close, I sigh as I feel sleep slowly coming to me.
But before I fall asleep the last thing I hear is Raiden's voice.
"Goodnight Emery."
